  • Today I wanted to talk a little bit about my Focus ST build and about the power that it makes. Hopefully this can help some prospective Focus owners or maybe someone who wants to tune it.

    Very nice! I have the same intercooler and i got the st3 shifter as well. That IC has done wonders. The only issue i had on my st was the water pump, it took a shit catastrophically at about 60,000 miles. Just driving down the road, wasn’t even romping on it. Shifted into second and suddenly my boost gauge shot up and then i saw a ton of smoke and mist behind me. I was able to limp it home but it terrified me, lol i thought the block had cracked or something.

    Looking at that launch on the 1/4 mile to much weight is shifting off your front tyres as you can see your front end lift on the holeshot and 2nd gear.
    Buy some stiffer springs for the rear to keep the weight where you need it and limit wheel spin and hop .

Maybe down the road when I build the block with some decent internals, I’ll get a real big turbo G-660. Kinda miss Ej257/Ej255 platform, You could go big turbo for around 1200$ total!

  • @dham99
    @dham99 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Not a bad set up, i was surprised when you said 340whp and it was the 2867R...I believe even without ethanol you can still push that turbo to the stock fuel limits of around 370+whp. Unless you're on 91 octane or something...or its the tuning software/tuner not wanting to get the most power out of your stock fueling? I know my BNR3071 maxes out on stock fuel quickly on 93oct, but my XDi HPFP is ready to go in once my tuner and i are ready to tune for it. The stock fuel system can handle E30 so that will up the power quite a bit, but as i said I dont think you'd need it unless you're trying to max power on less boost (which is always good for the engine!). Definitely a sleeper even at 340whp... probably about the perfect track/autoX set up too depending on the a/r you went with, I'm still trying to get used to the slightly slower spool of the 3071 .72 a/r.

      @dham99 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@StayTunedMavericks definitely not running out of fuel unless your injectors are just bad or a sensor is wonky somewhere that's cutting fuel, but that would usually be followed by a lot of misfires and P00088/P00087 or some other fuel codes (high/low pressure thresholds are off)... I know i had a fuel rail pressure sensor fail at the race track a few years back, i got hundreds of misfires at once and the above codes came through...but if the injectors are just junked up and the pattern or pressure is off, you can always go pay about $100 and have an injector specialist rebuild/flow test your original ones. Some tuners prob play it very safe and just dont want to be liable for any failures.. which is understandable. I'm pretty sure JST or Edge would be willing to hit your fueling limits as its still safe if they know what they're doing.

      As the first and only owner of this car since I was 17, I have to respectfully disagree. The price between the Focus ST and RS BASE MSRP is over $11,000. If you are going to spend nearly 40 grand to buy a Focus, why not just go get a Mustang? Hell, the 5.0 from 2017 starts at $33,000, while the RS starts at $36,000. The ST fits comfortably below both of those starting prices at $25,000. Even after 4 grand in mods, I still come out with less money spent on the ST than I would have buying either of those, not to mention the mods were spread out over the 6 years I've owned the car. As well, the Focus RS has 350bhp, not 400. My car happily sits with 390HP at the crank.

      With regards to you buying a 14 plate for that price is not difficult but what I was talking about was new and a year old . The RS is a much better car but the Sts are lovely cars , pushing them engines is not good in the long term which was my point and will cost a fortune . Also using bought mapping tools can also cause issues as I'm sure you are aware . With regards to insurance a mod ST is much higher on insurance than a stock RS but I guess that's different in America.
