      Bahhhh. Work on the ST is easy thanks to their videos ... and far more rewarding when you do it yourself. Plus, it's a high performance car. They require a bit more maintenance and attention than your usual car and doing your own upgrades is the perfect way to make sense of it all.

    Great turbo for the car, especially because it's a 2-liter. Personally, I like the EFR6758 for a good balance of boost threshold and responsiveness, and especially the EFR7163 for higher power numbers. Garretts are nice (and are popular for my platform - the Mazdaspeed 3), but EFRs are truly next-level. They're ridiculous.

    • @orangejjay
      @orangejjay 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Garrett's latest offering with the G25 and G30 out-perform the EFR's on the ST in every possible way. They spool faster, they don't run as hot, and they have higher output and possibility compared to their similar in class EFR.
      Plus, you can still use the OEM style downpipe and intake with the kits (obviously they need to be replaced but they don't require proprietary intakes or downpipes like the EFR kits require).

    I own this turbo and it's nice however the cap on the top of the inlet manifold is questionable its is critical that you have no exhaust leaks on the focus st because it pulls alot of info in the wideband o2 sensors just something I noticed was crappy design...

    • @orangejjay
      @orangejjay 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's an upgraded unit being sold on the Focus ST forums (Junits elbow) that solves this exact issue. You can use the gasket from the previous turbo to help protect the block. Without it, you are correct: Problems WILL present themselves in the form of a cracked block thanks to that fire ring rubbing against the super heated, soft aluminum.

      You need an external bov for this turbo. The bov that works with the oem turbo is housed inside the oem turbo. This one doesn't have that option. You'll have to buy a bov, a flange for it that can be used with your charge pipe or one that has it already and hook it up to the Intake manifold via a vacuum source.

      This isn't true at all. It's recommended to use a vacuum source, generally off a symposer delete, to ensure the blow off valve is supplied by true vacuum instead of the computer controlled device that comes from the factory.

    Hello my friend, I saw your video and it is the same thing that I want to do to my Focus St, but before doing so I want to ask you some questions: what does your car have to have so that the turbo GTX2867R can work normally? Did you do the new programming inside the cobb? Did you change suspension or brakes or gas pump

    • @sategllib2191
      @sategllib2191 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Custom tune from a tuning company through the cobb. Need a pc to download it. And a bigger intercooler really is all you need. Full 3 inch exhaust and cold air intake will help a bit too. Plus oil catch cans to play it safe

    • @orangejjay
      @orangejjay 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fueling doesn't need to be changed until you're going 350+ HP. Engine internals are good until about 440 HP.
      An upgraded downpipe and intercooler are REQUIRED along with a charge pipe and blow off valve that will fit it (don't buy the JBR charge pipes as their fitment sucks).
      You will also need a big turbo tune. Some companies (like Stratified) include the tune with your big turbo package purchase. Alan Jackson from Edge Auto is the current celebrated tuner on the ST. He, like Bill, also does some great corporate ST videos.

    • @orangejjay
      @orangejjay 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Should also mention that brakes and suspension are fine stock. It's good to upgrade the rear to a larger rotor ("Frankenbrake" as it's called) but not required. Suspension is also great but torque gusset, rear strut tower, and sway bar upgrades and endlinks can really help put the power to the ground.
      Lastly, upgrading the RMM is critical in ensuring the BOV on your cold side charge (if you choose that side) doesn't smack into the A/C compressor or pop off due to engine movement. CP-E's stage 2 is the best for a daily driver.

  • @luckyphothirath7901
    @luckyphothirath7901 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So you install a big turbo and a cobbs stage 3 package with stock turbo on the focus. Which one do you feel is faster? I want to go fast but don't know which way to go? Either go with cobbs stage 3 or go the route of a bigger turbo.

    • @CozyVillain
      @CozyVillain 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lucky Phothirath bigger turbo if you wanna go passed 300whp cause you only gain about 50hp with a stage 3 package which really isn’t all that worth it, big turbo fo the win!

    • @orangejjay
      @orangejjay 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      With a bigger turbo, you need to be stage three already to maximize the benefits of the turbo. Stock intake and downpipe are too small to maintain efficiency of the turbo and the stock intercooler is a joke.
      Either go stage three first or do them all at the same time but not the other way around (big turbo and then stage three).

    • @orangejjay
      @orangejjay 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's literally what you have to do. Drills are not sketchy, especially when it's flimsy material like silicone couplers. They hold up fine too though newer kits often have a metal ring that you slide into the coupler and use to fasten the fitting into which means you drill through that AND the coupler.

      No, it would be faster and less expensive if you a) bought an ST here and imported it yourself b) bought all the parts needed to convert your car to an ST, it's been done here since Ford does not offer the ST model in sedan configuration.

    so when i get this turbo I have to get bigger injectors? or just a tune?

    • @orangejjay
      @orangejjay 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's almost never a need to upgrade injectors on the ST unless you're gunning for straight E85. Even then, running port injection via auxiliary fuel is better as it cleans the valves and helps reduce the risk of fuel starvation.
      Stock fueling system is good for up to 350 HP which this turbo can do with ease.
      A tune is required for any bigger turbo and you must flash a new baseline tune made for your specific setup prior to driving with the upgraded turbo (otherwise you'll see overboost troubles and run the risk of serious damage to your engine).

      Yes they are a PITA. Turbo swaps are very long and painful. Same as my old 2010 Cobalt SS turbo, except that csr was 280 lbs lighter came with a Borg warner T04 turbo. Ran 5.6 sec to 60 and 13.9@102 mph stock. A stock SS sedan did 5.5 sec and 13.7@104 mph. Those sedans were still only 3000 lbs vs a base ST at 3200, ST2 is 3300, ST3 3370+/-35 lbs. The Foc ST with its T03 turbo needs a full Stg 3 to equal that old SS Cobalt stock. The SS's turbo was comparable to a GT 2660 Garrett. It could handle upto 350 whp. The stock fuel system was also limited to 360 whp or so. It was also the second vehicle in the US with DI. The Saturn Sky Redkine, Solstice GXP waa the first.

    After the COBB stage 3 focus st package, what aftermarket turbo would you recommend?

    • @orangejjay
      @orangejjay 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Any big turbo package will do. It moreso comes down to what your goals are and your budget. Garrett's latest, the G25 series, is the cream of the crop but uses an external wastegate which requires a screamer pipe and/or someone to route a pipe back into your exhaust. EFR makes some great kits if you can get them (Full Race seems to have mixed info on whether or not they support the ST anymore and Mountune is horrible with stock).

      With a 2.0L engine it is best you get .64 period. The turbos offered for this car only go up to about 500+ and even with a larger turbo like the GTX3071, GTX3076 or EFR7163, you'll get better spool because top end power + backpressure really isn't a problem at this power levels even if we're talking 450-500 whp.

      @dj4monie 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not needed. Conservative output on pump gas (depending where you live 91 or 93), conditions where you live, etc, the stock injectors will stop you around 400hp. I won't tell you how to get to 400 or over that, you'll have to figure that out on your own.

    • @MasterCarguy44-pk2dq
      @MasterCarguy44-pk2dq 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stock ST injectors are good to around 315 crank hp. You must have pulled 400 hp out of a magic hat. Several companies now sell an upgraded injector that's good to about 395 crank hp.

    • @dj4monie
      @dj4monie 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      400 can't be made safely with the stock injectors and lift pump if you are using ethanol blends. The in-tank pump will support over 475 hp. You can make 400+ with either water-methanol injection or race gas because the car is octane limited more than volume limited with the fuel system. Beyond low 400's you need port injection because upgraded injectors will only give you a little more and the stock lift pump drops voltage beyond a certain point. Two lift pumps will be on the market this year, they were suppose to come out during 2017 but will likely be available shortly after SEMA in Nov. It's not magic it's math...

      Lots of reading on Garrett, Borg Warner's sites. Also advanced turbo discussions are happening on the EVO forums, Honda Tech, etc. IE these turbos are small potatoes but everything is relevant once you start making power and running 30+ to do it. Stock worm gear clamps will hold 30+ psi, the key is having the right couplers....

      No there isn't and why did you get a ST in the first place? You could have gotten a ST1 for about $20,000 and then you wouldn't be asking this question. The only option you have is to DIY or find a wrecked ST and swap everything over, it's been done, it's a lot of work.
