you prolly dont care but if you're bored like me atm then you can watch all of the latest series on instaflixxer. Been watching with my girlfriend recently :)
I’ve been looking into to buying an ST for the last few months. Watching this channel and getting to hear from the tuner himself really makes me feel 1,000,000 more comfortable with the tuning and modding process. Thank you guys. Will be coming to you with everything
Am I trying to make my st faster? No. Am I going to watch this video to learn more about my platform and the limitations of it's drivetrain? Oh yeah 👍 great video brother
STs platform is well known to be reliable at 600-680whp! With supporting mods, and the only thing that is limiting going past 680whp is the factory sleeves, if it wasn’t for the factory sleeves could go 700whp+ specially with a 2.3head. And port injection .
Tbh, I love my ST and I do get compliments from women. Its a different kind of compliment like its a "cute car" since its so compact and not exactly the most aggressive. But that's what makes it so nice. Unless others know its a hot hatch, its almost a sleeper. Except when it comes to the exhaust. I'm ready to shell out money for a Mountune engine and transmission in the future. Its fun to drive and not as bulky as the more popular sports cars in the US. It's also got fuel efficiency if its not modded to all hell. The biggest plus is that its suuuper easy to work on.
Great videos... you've never mentioned intercooler upgrades. Can you please let us know what hp limit we could expect from a stock turbo with upgraded intercooler set-up.
In the beginning you mentioned nitrous to get past 300 hp with stock turbo. Where can I find information in regards to doing that? I have looked but I can’t find much information.
My ST is basically an alternative to driving a Civic or Corolla. That being said, because it's not a GT3 RS, I am only as serious about it as what can be done with the stock turbo. I am fine with the 270 hp on a cheap FWD daily driver. What exactly are the mods used to arrive at that max 270 HP figure?
Most important is FMIC and a tune. Intake is nice to have for whooshy sounds but not necessary on stock turbo. hi flow cat/no cat downpipe is the last step there (no cat will smell like burnt gas when you're driving) but I would say 75% of your gains will just be from the tune
Alright Stock Turbo max 300 HP but WHP or Engine HP ? what about limits HP of stock engine st mk3 , how much is it ? Heard about something 330 Engine HP before blowing something ?
Can you feel the difference in 50hp in the ST platform? 250 -> 300. Trying to figure out if it’s worth it. Or if I shouldn’t do anything and keep is stock for reliability. Thanks!!!
That would fall in the 375 tq to 400tq range. You can push a bit further safely though it does depend a bit on the tune. As you go over 400, reliability starts to decrease.
Yes we do! We are just outside of Denver in Colorado. We don't work on customer cars here, just our projects for product testing, but we do love to offer discounts on used parts for our local friends
Are U.S. cars a different spec. Plenty of people here run remapped cars on the standard turbo and super plus petrol that will take you over 300bhp on a daily driver 🤔
ive been trying to decide between a 2015+ wrx or an ST, I like the awd of the WRX but im kinda of worried about the reliablity of the fa20. But ive known fwd all my life and am used to it so im kinda of leaning towards the STmore. Its hard because if I go one over the other i know ill have regrets but i just dont know which one to go with honestly.
The FA20 is more reliable than the EJ series engines. I wouldn't worry about that being a huge factor compared to the ST. Both are great platforms for modding and making solid power with the stock engine.
What should I do first if I want to be at 300hp? This is my first turbo car I was thinking maybe a air in take, different spark plugs, a down pipe and a tune with 91 or 93
If you want 300hp, you should check out our more recent video with the Garrett Powermax turbo. The stock turbo doesn't safely/reliably/practically go that far.
Just bought a BNR ST3071R from y'all earlier today, as it sits my ST has the Mountune MR300 package plus a couple other things, so all in all it has Intake, catless dp, catback, boomba BoV, 1 step colder spark plugs, & big FMIC, what do y'all think my limit would be as of now? I know 3071R is more turbo than I need, but I figured better to be low boost on big turbo than high boost on small turbo for reliability sake
400+ hp is considered the danger zone where you WILL need a rebuild. The stock internals can take it for a tiny bit, some people run 450 on stock internals for a long time, most don’t. I sent him an email to ask and 350whp at 150k is still safe as long as your engine is healthy. Plus since it moves the boost threshold and power up, your less likely to get LSPI.
Hello man, what about internals like pistons and rods ? I just break my piston nr 2 .... car mods are: 100k km, wagner competition fmic, injen cold air intake kit, decat downpipe magnaflow, gfb blow off valve, denso one step cold spark plugs itv22 gap 0.3mm and Revo stage 2 soft. What could be the problem....
So back to the stock block limitations at 375whp-450whp What are the recommended Modifications That Should Be Done At This Point? Considering it's a Daily Driver As in Keyed Crank Pistons, Rods, Head studs , What should be done at this point If you want to proceed from 375 into the 550 range
Awesome video! You guys have fantastic production quality and deserve tons more views/subs. I wanted to ask: If I run just Water Meth Injection on the stock turbo with no ethanol blended, can I expect to creep up to that 300hp limit (as an ethanol blend tune might)? Thank you!
No need to run meth with Ethanol.. we (the high performance industry) moved to ethanol fuels from methanol injection due to common issues with unequal distribution, it’s extremely corrosive to aluminum parts ect . From a professional tuner , builder stand point is use one or the other . You shouldn’t need both nor would you gain anything using both with the right tune/tuner on e50/e85 .
To answer your question simply methanol and pump 93 has gotten me over 500hp in my dsm’s time and time again . So it’s possible you could near the 300 mark but it depends on the tune , air /humidity ect
That doesn't really make sense for the ecoboost, but sequential turbos have worked well for I-6 motors etc. If you have questions regarding your goals, feel free to give us a call, we can offer you some guidance!
The stock fuel system can handle low ethanol blends, up to 30%. Anymore than that taxes the fuel system too much and you'll have to sacrifice airflow/power to run higher blends. You can see gains on the stock fuel system ST with E30 completely stock and with upgraded turbos though so it is definitely worth it.
I am pro Nitrous as long as you have the budget to build the motor should something go wrong. I've tuned a couple ST's on Nitrous with decent results. You just have to be careful and know what you are doing. I highly recommend nitrous controllers over the good old button too. This will make it safer from a tuning perspective.
I’m not a fan of the DW 1700’s. I have only tuned a couple cars with them and they don’t seem to run very well. I’ve heard this from other tuners also. I don’t think they give much in terms of gains on stock fuel pump either. You would be better off just upgrading the HPFP for starters. The DW 1700’s may work better with the upgraded hpfp, but I have not come across that combo yet.
