Something I haven't heard you mention, the reason that engine is so used over other k series engines that are similar is the ECU for it was the original base for k tuner and those are cheap compared to the other variants with similar internals. Similar goes for the k24s from that year range being as used that only require two connectors swapped compared to back grading the ECU and harness like later engines in that series require for kpro. Other you did a good job explaining the basics for new car enthusiast.
I think the biggest reason people use the K20 over the K24 is because a stock ECU will run the K20 without complications. The K24A2 has drive by wire, so its ECU can't easily be used for swaps. That means a modified or standalone ECU and tune is required to do the swap right. But since the K24A2 can be found for around $500 vs $2K+ for a performance K20, a K24A2 swap still ends up being about the same price or cheaper and has much more torque.
When doing torque turn, just use the bolt head. 360/6 is 60 degrees. If you just mark the socket at one of the 6 points, then mark that girdle at at the next point on the bolt. Just turn the bolt until the lines meet up.
Honestly I feel the K20 should go into the $500 Civic. Make a man entirely new 3 or 4 part series about how a cheap car could be built into some crazy type of beast. Let’s see the full potential of that $500 Civic..
It would be extremely cool and amazing if you guys could sometime build a 1000 HP engine over the course of a series or something 🙏. It's always been rather shush shush in terms of details beyond broad strokes (at least on TH-cam in my experience).
the trick to the ring compressor is you want to seat it inside the block a little. If you get the cheapo ratcheting ones this works great cuz you can push them in axially and they sorta "spiral" out, giving you a nice edge to stick into the bore. the edge being in there helps transition the rings. DO NOT hammer on them or force them if they're snagging, you can bend or snap the rings.

I want to see you put the K in an old short bed/cab small pick-up like a square body S-10, Mighty Max, a P'up or something down that route. A tiny truck drift and/or race (Why not both? Do one that's an all-around) build would be awesome and different. A lot of those trucks are already super-duper light to boot.
this engine needs to be revived as a hydrogen engine, the sheer amount of appraise this will get if this engine existed as a hydrogen engine will be insane
Hello Donut team. I love your channel and content. My suggestion would be to put the K20A motor into a Subaru BRZ, the one with the older body style! The car has amazing suspension that’s overdamped and handles great. It’s also compact and the engine bay would be proportionate to the K20A engine. What the lacks is power. And the boosted K20A would be the powertrain it needs and will turn the car into an absolute rocket 🚀. I’d also put 225 tires on the BRZ with some nice aftermarket wilwood racing brakes. Add couple of aero mods. For tuning the boost, I wouldn’t start at 1000bhp, perhaps 500 bhp is more than adequate to test out the vehicle on a track. Thank you for producing such great content for us car enthusiasts! Looking forward to the build!

I wouldn't really say it's slow but I get what your saying, also id say its honestly one of the best engines out there for multiple reasons
@@Karpofcarpit’s slow lol look at how he accelerated right after 😂
@@kingjay3301 wait are you talking about the k series or you taking about whatever series is the accord he drives?
I love these rebuild videos, I learn so much and it's really well edited and produced with great personalities, flow, and educational but fun content.
Watched a few videos way in the past but got more consistent when HiLow first came out and I've learned so much about building, fixing, and modding. Haven't done much myself yet for my car since I don't have that many tools or time to make it easy, but I've been working on my bikes with more confidence.
Love this. Make this a series. Would love to see you tear down the legendary 4G63T next!
put it into that eg6 behind you guys
I would love to see an episode on the rotary 13B and maybe bring back Aaron to really go in-depth into the engine.
Awesome guys! That engine in a MR2 Spyder hardtiop would be spicy, the sound in that cabin of 9000rpm alone would be insane... then there's the tight handling low center of gravity and fast acceleration from the light chassis. Great video, im sure whatever car that engine goes into will be incredible.
I think that’s the plan. It’s gotta be a k series or a 2zz.
A friend of mine has a built K-series in an MR2 Spyder. Super fun car. Another friend has something much weirder: a K-swapped DeLorean!
@@christopherscott3120 that DeLorean definitely hits more than 88mph now.... how about K20a in an Elise
These engine rebuilds videos are great. Cant wait to see more
In my book, these engine rebuilds that donut does will allways be the best videos donut can make
I love waking up in the mornings to watch my Daily Dose of Donut.
Coffee & donut in the morning. Mmmm
Triple D
I'm loving these engine builds. I like when you go through what is different from the run of the mill cars that aren't build for power. Thoughts on doing a rotary? Maybe a 13B REW?
Jeremiah seems hella pissed that Zach got “sick” lol
Explosive diarrhea will do that to ya! 😅🤢🤮
Bro had diarrhea, cut him some slack 😂
You guys really make quality content. Within the last 2 years, I've really consumed quite a bit of cartube and Donut is easily one of my favorite outlets. I would love to maybe see a video formatted this way, but about why Dodge's Hemi Engine is so infamous.
Y'all have been killin it with the content recently! Keep it up! Engine teardowns make good videos!
0:40 you gotta be more careful with that drum beat 👀
🫥
I'm not even a Honda boi but if my 86 goes I'm totally planning for the K swap cause I love the balance of a boxster motor but 500+hp in an 86 chassis would be INSANE
Replacing your spark plugs would be way easier too.
my FRS engine just went... saving up for a k-swap as of now! super excited to have a beautiful and light chassis that can actually have power
Ok this is definitely a channel to keep up with. Cool clips and info.
Keep up this kinda content, really enjoy it!
I'm very excited to see what comes next for this Honda. Though I am a little sad that we won't get to see you slap some turbos into the old engine.
You guys should do a VR6 tear down next, or an EA113. I feel like Jobe experience from ECS would come in handy.
EA113 All the way especially CDL S3 8p l, Golf 6R
I had a 2005 RSX Type-S. It wasn’t exactly the engine from this video, but that car was a blast to drive. It LOVED being near redline and never had any issues with it. I miss that car so much.
I had an 02 K20Z1 swapped RSX-S, honestly my overall favorite car out of all 26 I’ve owned!
26?
@@xrete Yes surprisingly, from mustangs, trans ams, 370z, Mercedes CLK500 AMG, and fusions I’ve owned a few interesting and uncommon to the most common things around haha
@@jaidenkeranen5774 lucky bastard
These teardown videos are so cool and so fun to watch
I don't know anything about cars, so getting a relatively simple and clear explanation on how the engines work is really great!
This engine has so much potential you could put it into a compact car like a suzuki swift but its your choice donut
YES! The 2JZ episode was great. This could be an amazing series: tear down a legendary engine then rebuild it while highlighting the design features that make it so great. You should do an LS engine next!
2JZ is half toyota so that means is garbage !
The editing in this video is so freaking good. Just the small outlines to highlight details, such a nice addition.
its only the law that you slam it in the $500 civic
Nah, put it in a RWD chassis that deserves it
Hey Donut, Big Fan Here! I Have A Request! For Your Next Build, Could You Build A 2000 Honda Accord, The Car In Clip 0:11 Please And Thank You!!
I have a ep3 civic with the k20a3 (k20a-slow) as I call it. But I absolutely love this engine. Super reliable and a healthy powerband.
Ep3 underrated should of made a bit more power for how much it weighs
what, the power band is crap. I mean, its nice, progressive and flat but thats because peak power is so low and short lived...
Damn didn't have to do the 2001 Honda Accord like that she gets me from point A to point B 😂
Hey they last a good while 👍
You guys need to do another "Gambler 500" with James, Justin, and Nolan.
It would make my day 🤗🤗
Honda makes engines that run well but also that just look really tight and tasteful, with well designed placement and interconnectivity of all components.
You guys do alot of engine videos. Have you ever thought about what transmissions these cars may need to successfully and reliably put down this much power?
Nasty. I enjoy when y'all get technical and explain things
Bruh, that pos Honda is about to become a death trap lol
@@willlive6845😂😂😂💯
My friend K swapped his BRZ and did it, with working A/C, for only $15,000. The swap kits are amazing.
Seeing the impact being used for so many things makes me anxious
ya we need more of these there some of my fav. vids. ever sense they did it with the zs and subies closest were going to get to science garage miss that show so much. and def put it in the eg hatch as a new money pit car
Absolutely loving the Honda content 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Made me feel more proud about my 8th Gen Si 😂
sheesh 1000hp
Bet it ends up only 750...
@@pickelteets way less
The cardboard bolt sorter is freaking genius!
they're just great cars/engines
This was the most complete informative dive into an engine I have seen.
This! Make more of this. This is what we want.
15:45 - I see a little green honda it would fit into nicely.
Definitely! Honda's powertrain belongs in a Honda chassis! I know the body wasn't the best built, they would rust eventually, but that 3 door coupe series was the pin-up 😍
I want to see you put the K in an old short bed/cab small pick-up like a square body S-10, Mighty Max, a P'up or something down that route. A tiny truck drift and/or race (Why not both? Do one that's an all-around) build would be awesome and different. A lot of those trucks are already super-duper light to boot.
Love the breakdown study and rebuild keep this shit up boys
I have an idea make the Subaru's reliable and put that motor in there. Make a Hondaru
Boostedbois did it with emilio back when
I have a K24 in my honda element, All it needed was a cold air intake, Exhaust mod, And a tune to get to 350 HP from a stock 160
this engine needs to be revived as a hydrogen engine, the sheer amount of appraise this will get if this engine existed as a hydrogen engine will be insane
Algorithm boost comment lol
Same
bro what
Needs an anti-lag setup, took 10 months to work
x3
Same
1000hp k20 miata you wont
Major props to the graphic artist on this vid, super informative and clear to read.
8:48 why is it always diarrhea 💀
IBS?
So good to see you make videos about vehicles again!
As a Master Technician who builds 3+ engines a month I give you guys a solid A+ on presentation and performance. 💯
