While uploading this video, Aaron Nola signed a 7 year, $172M deal back with the Phillies. Don't see it as a huge loss to us though honestly, I'd rather go for Yamamoto or Snell on larger contracts
It did when they brought Lester in, then Lackey, Derosa and Heyward. You could argue that Heyward hurt us in the second half of the contract, but it DID pay off with a World Series.
........ MLBTR's contract for Shohei would still be extremely team friendly. How many people would immediately agree to discounts just to play with him? He's one of the absolute greatest players ever, and you know that people will leap to join
When you told me his salary possibilities… It’s so fucking insane… But then again the government takes almost half of it, then his lawyers, agents etc.… Of course if he does any commercials I’m not sure if he speaks English well enough but I’m sure he makes plenty in Japan… But it seems crazy that somebody in Sports is going to get paid half of $1 billion… It’s unbelievable… It’s almost laughable… You get to play your favorite sport and get paid or ridiculous amount of money… How lucky is that… Fucking way too lucky… But good for him I really hope the Cubs are serious about it🙏
I would love Ohtani but not 12years when he's gonna be 30 in July. I would do 10/550 12 years for Belli is way too long. Im okay with moving on from him if he get more than 7 years.
If I was giving Bellinger a 12 years deal, years 7-12 would be team options that could vest into player options if he achieves 500 PA for each of the first 6 seasons. In other words, if he gets 500 PA in year 1, year 7 becomes a player option. I'd even add money paid out to every year that started the seasons as a team option, 500K. That way if he's healthy and productive the first 6 seasons, he could increase the value of the deal by a total of 10.5M. So, 12Y264M with a player opt out after S4 and the team options of 7-12. Set the pay outs at 28/28/26/26/24/24/20/20/18/18/16/16. The CBT AAV would be 22M and the back half could potentially be 20.5/21/19.5/20/18.5/19 which would take through the rest of his career.
I wouldn't do either $50,000,000 for one player to perform the same as when he is 38 or 40 as when he was in his prime is a joke playe😢rs talent tend to fall off with age
I doubt Matt Shaw sniffs the bigs this year. No reason to rush him. We have plenty of options at third. Wisdom signed a one year deal, so throwing him out there vs lefties for sure. I still would like to see Mervis have a good spring and actually make the team. We need Mervis to step up especially if Belli isn’t back because we can shuffle other platoon players to 3rd.
Great stuff, great info as usual… The other day I heard Matt Spiegel on The score 670 talk about the Cubs about to have a news conference or announcing the signing of Shohei Ohtani… Now I don’t know if he was joking or not, or if he’s just assuming… But I’ve known Matt for a few years… Since the mid 90s… One of my best friends was his roommate and I didn’t have any idea that he was working for The Score at the time… He’s not even from Chicago but he became a Cubs fan and all the other teams we have… I don’t know if he’s telling the truth or if he’s just very hopeful✌🏼
Any team that signs Ohtani has to look at the CBT and laugh for the length of his contract. I think his best interest if he wants to return to pitching is to go closer to have a lot fewer innings on the arm. As for trading for Soto, I'd do it. Then on the plane ride over to Chicago, I'd plop a contract in front of him for 17 years and 629M, 37M AAV. Standard full NTC with opt outs after years 4, 7, 10, and 13. Pay out structure of 33/36/39/41/43/44/43/40/39/38/37/35/35/34/32/31/29. Then make him aware that for the Giants or Dodgers to match the money being paid out after the 24 season, they have to offer a deal worth 703.3M or 44M AAV while the Mets or Yankees would have to offer a deal worth 727.12M or 45.45M because of their state income taxes. Soto's production and health history make him worth the risk. For Bellinger, I'd rather sign him to a shorter deal at a higher AAV with the back half of the deal being team options that can vest into player options. E.g. 8Y220M with years 5-8 being team options. Pay out structure of 35/35/30/30/25/25/20/20. For each season he achieves 500 PA in the first 4 seasons the earliest available team option is converted to a player option and 1M is added to each year that was a team option at the beginning of the season. So if he's healthy and productive the fist 4 seasons, the payouts for the final 4 could be 26/27/23/24. I'd look into trading for Cease. Alcantara, Wicks, Wisdom, and Wesneski is more than fair and expendable for the Cubs. Offer him 2Y32M to get arbitration out of the way with a slight overpay for 24 to get the under pay for 25. He still goes to FA on schedule so Boras shouldn't balk.
no way you just said trade wicks and Alcantara LOL. wicks was great for us as a rookie and Alcantara is one of our biggest prospects, you're also talking about trading our starting 3rd baseman.... make it make sense. Cease is not the same and has had TJ alr
@@BMART1 I'm talking about trading the unknown for the known with the unknown being expendable. The Cubs corner OF is locked through 2026 unless you can convince one of them to waive their NTC. Wicks was good for a handful of starts. Cease is better and proven. The Cubs have surplus talent in areas that are not needs at the MLB level while having holes that don't look to be filled by the farm this coming season.
If playing 162 games and hitting .275 with 35 HR, 109 RBI and leading the NL in walks while having less strikeouts than walks and a .930 OPS/158 OPS+ while finishing 6th in MVP voting and winning the Silver Slugger is considered a “bad year”, I’ll take that any day.
I'm not a big fan but do you realize if the Cubs don't get Ohtani, they will be worse than this year. He's more likely to go to LA. They aren't pursuing Bellinger so they would have him to fall back on and they will not pay his price. They might have to go after Soto. imo, Bellinger is a better hitter now than him. Ohtani is just a DH. I hope the Cubs do well.
Bellinger may have had a higher average than Soto but Soto also led MLB in walks and is much younger, I’d take Soto over Bellinger as long as you can get him to agree to an extension prior to the trade. Can’t sign both Soto and Ohtani as they basically play the same position, so go get Ohtani and then work on the pitching staff
Ohtani is too smart to sign with a team in Chicago. That city is a huge mess. Same with San Fran. Why would anyone want to live in either of those cities now?
Bro Chicago has a small ballpark and he one of the best hitters in the league,500 mill he can play for Chicago and still live in LA that type of money, private jet me please 🥺

Agree. Gotta try to get the much younger pitcher. Yoshinobu Yamamoto
Yamamoto is Elite. 25. Just watching him pitch, it's Elite Elite stuff.
Impressive that he would find time during the signing to upload this video.
