I really doubt that their spinoff series is going to be a Devil May Cry series simply because DMC is made by Capcom, and Castlevania is made by Konami.
I would have like to have seen the remaining two sisters destroyed as well as they continue to be a threat to human beings. Even then, I think that this was the perfect place for the season to end
I'm already in my second viewing of this season and yes, Varney has a bunch of foreshadowing dialogue. He definitely disguised himself well because no one suspected.
@@sukhviryadav2343 I thought that too but it was too late.... Lol I JUST finished it and once I saw the transformation I was pissed I didn't think of this 🤣
@@jonathanherrera4900 Sorry but I agree with Brian on this. The valmanway/crissaegrim is supposed to have a windcut-like effect while the blue flame-like effect seen here is more in line with the Alucard Sword.
It's ironic that carmilla became what she hated most a crazy old man or in her case a crazy old woman. And someone else come to take what belongs to her hence Isaac.
"He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And if you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss also gazes into you." -Friedrich Nietzsche.
It has sense because Death can take the form of a very neutral person, like in the games you can see him as Zed (in Curse of Darkness). And now in the series he took the form of the Alchemist and Varney, just to manipulate the facts in order to gain the power.
Before Carmilla’s death she sheds a single bloody tear from her left eye which matches up with how her masked form looks in the games. Also for a few frames during her death the shading makes her look like her mask form
@@jmgonzales7701 Camilla is too hard to not give up since infinite corridor is finally solidify she can comeback in similar ways but Lenore found peace so I doubt she will be back.
I'm not a big Castlevania fan yet I enjoyed all the seasons even tho I was clueless on what references it had of the games, is really nice to see how much care they took for the series to make it feel genuine enough to the games
One thing I realized was a subtle hint to Varney's true nature in retrospect, was the constant mention of his "smell" by Saint Germain, earlier in the season Greta talks a bit about the scent of magic, how it smells light and sweet on Alucard, and rotten and foul on Saint Germain. At this point in the story he's already gone over to the dark side and been performing acts of death magic in preparation for the ritual. I believe the thick odor that rolls off of Varney is the smell of the powerful dark magic he is steeped in, and it's so strong that even in his vampire form ordinary humans can smell it miles away as Germain mentioned.
Yeah I really enjoyed his character as well, he had a great enlightening quest for redemption. He was very much a main character as much as the 3 heroes. Great story. Sad it's over.
When the rebis was “destroyed”, I don’t think it was, i think it was separated into half, therefore separating vlad and lisa’s souls too, resurrecting them as two separate beings.
@@blumiu2426 Nothing? Not Trevor's Vampire Killer whip and its upgrade, the Morning Star, not Sypha's spells being split into ones of ice, fire and lightning, not Alucard and his sword and shield, the former of which is also a familiar and Alucard's wolf form and cape turning into wings go glide and his ability to teleport? Not the massive gireball Dracula summoned, or the boomeranging cross weapon replacement for Trevor's shitty throwing knives? Not Death as an endgame boss enemy, not the plot to attempt to resurrect Dracula? Hmm, that seems weird, because these are ALL from the games.
@@High-LordHarza The Vampire Killer was gone by the second season, when in actually, it does not change form. That is a game mechanic. A morning star is not a whip and chains make a poor substitute. You even see Trevor exchange the two weapons, so they aren't even the same thing when only one weapon was capable of slaying Dracula. Other than that, what exactly are you referring to? That the characters doing things that you would expect means that they are them? That just means they got something right. Did you expect them to get even that wrong? What's a gireball? Demonic Megiddo? Odd. I could have sword those throwing knives had the capability of slaying creatures of the night...also a classic staple of the series. The boomerang cross was another weapon the Belmont's used, not a replacement. When has death ever been the endgame boss of Castlevania? Never from my memory, because Dracula was always summoned partially or fully for the final confrontation. You're not making a strong case for anything besides saying they stuck to basics. Something that I've said or there would be no semblance of Castlevania besides the name. I can understand though, seeing as there is nothing else to relate to the games. It's just bizarre you refer to character attacks, weapons and basics of Castlevania anyone would know at cursory glance as defense, while ignoring the characters themselves are changed and barely the plot of Dracula's Cruse was present. But that's it.
@@blumiu2426 Holy wall of text Batman! Death as an endgame boss, as in, one of the last bosses of the game. Not the last boss. Yeah, Morning Star was a boost to the Vampire Killer, not a replacement, but it's far better to make it a separate weapon because adding a small spiked ball to the end would've been lame. Also, he uses Vampire Killer in season 4 briefly, so it is wasn't gone. The cross was always just better tham the knives, that's what I was referring to. And if they got things right, how is that "nothing like the games" then? You make no sense. Sure they've taken characters and events from other games in the series, like Hector and Isaac to add more to the story since they were part of the story but never shown, and changed them as well, because Isaac being just a crazy bondage dude wouldn't be much of a character. And FIREBALL, jackass, typos happen especially with phone keyboards.
Greta of Danesti might be the show's gender-swapped interpretation of Grant DaNasty. Also, when Alucard arrives at the village of Danesti on a horse, it is very reminiscent of how he arrives at Dracula's Castle in "Symphony of the Night".
This and other small or not so small differences have me thinking that the series was sort of made to contrast the game, similar to how an event could actually be different from its historic accounts. Like the series constantly has characters offer corrected information on history or science, I think this might be what the series itself is trying to imply.
Let's be real here. If they had a chance to make Alucard even more gay, they wouldn't have changed it. Greta couldn't possibly be Grant. It seems they are going out of their way to add things like this to prove they are hip and with the times.
When the candle went out for a moment I thought they just died with the dreams of escaping to a new life. Getting just a few hours of life and happiness. Or more likely it was all just a last moments before death dream since the inn keeper didn't bat an eye at the last name or the fact Dracula's long nails were showing
I did cry in the last 2 episodes. Trevor and Sypha showing up last minute to help Alucard, the fight with death, naming the village Belmont... lots of happy moments that where totally different to the destruction seen. And also seeing Vlad and Lisa was so heartwarming.
missed: when alucard leaps off things, he projects the leapstone effect in SoTN (cape briefly turns into wings during a double jump). to a lesser extent, "alucard" from lords of shadow does the same, but with actual wings instead. carmillas weapon is clearly the muramasa ("a sword seeped in blood"), because the longer she used it the more she succumbs to her inner vampiric/berserker bloodlust. striga in her dayarmor is a jab at the berserk remake, because holy hell tht 3 minutes of her hacking fools was clearly superior to the anime. the hidden court is a reference to the treasure pit/room in some games the portrait of drac is clearly the power of sire item from SoTN
@@timothyyambing6160 i actually thought it was a reference to how you can spam julius subweapons, the only belmont i can remember that can do so (well, in actual old style gameplay at least)
Kinda fun fact: The alchemical symbol on Death's left shoulder while they(?) are posing as the woman in the Infinite Corridor actually means "death." It's small shit like that that makes me love this series i-
The Trevor/Sypha "I love you...I know" was also a reference to when right before Trevor goes to fight Death they have the same exchange, but with the roles reversed!
That was also a not to the Star Wars movies, where Leia told Han Solo "I love you", and Han replied "I know" as he was about to be frozen into carbonite.
I loved how they did this season, I wish Death was a little bit more clearly teased because it did kinda feel like it did just pop up but I wasn’t mad at it. All the fights especially that Carmila vs Issac was freaking beautiful I loved it. That final episode was legit had me on the edge of my seat loving every second.
What? Death was almost teased too much. First you get an introduction of him by Trevor. Later Varney literally says that he feeds on death, outright spoiling that he was Death in disguise if you paid enough attention.
@@Bronzescorpion I mean they are vampires so when you hear a vampire say he “feeds on death” I don’t think that’s a big hint towards specifically that character. And you only mentioned like two lml...they were pretty subtle hints. You’d get them if you were I guess a castlevania buff but I never really played the games to that extent to know that one line would somehow indicate he’s death. Only thing that was clear to me was Trevor’s comment early on.
@@dyllanrodriguez2828 Being a Castlevania buff doesn't really help in this case. Sure you know that Death is in the games, but normally he isn't in disguise and never as a vampire as far as I know. All you need to know is given to you in the series: Trevor tells that the creature feeds on death, rather than being the actual Death. Varney says that he feeds and lives on death. I would actually argue that being movie/story savvy is more helpful to you. You know that Death will make an appearance, since Trevor's description of him is basically a chekhov's gun. This alone should not make you surprised that he eventually pops up. As for him and Varney being the same, without the blatant shout out, other things that may have clued one in, is the importance of Varney. As jokingly a character he appears to be, he has way more involvement in the events, than normal for such a character. He speaks with multiple of the major characters through distance mirrors. It should at the very least clue you in that there is more to him, than meets the eye. They even played with it, constantly having him asking: "Don't you know who I am?", which is very funny in hindsight. All in all. Death was definitely teased enough, that it shouldn't have been a surprise. It may only have been one mention of him, but it was so prominent that you know he would appear. The question is when and who? The reason I said he was almost hinted too much, is that you didn't really have to pay that much attention to pick up on Varney's words. It is not a hidden detail or something you only catch in multiple watching. It was there almost spoken directly outright and many caught on immediately.
@@dyllanrodriguez2828 Are you serious? I knew Death was going to appear since the first 10 minutes in episode 1... You know, where Trevor has a whole explanation about who Death is, in front of an altar to Death, built by a bunch of Death cult followers...?? xDxD I have never played a Castlevania game, btw.
I can relate so much to Isaac. Easily my favourite character. People are quite dumb and arrogant and selfish but they can learn and that's why they have hope. I wish world would be better place. Something Isaac would approve
At first I didn't like isaac because he was pretty brutal and just went around attacking and seeking vengeance, but towards the end he started thinking more optimistic
I also like how Lenore's hubris also took her down. Hector is not as good a warrior as Issac but is still a very powerful wizard. But she thought that she was smart enough and powerful enough to control him.
THIS IS WHY YOU WATCH YOUR PETS. Some dogs chew the furniture. Some cats pee in the corner. Her pet placed stones to allow an assassin to murder her sister. WATCH YOUR PETS.
@@humanity600 This is true too. There's a certain willful ignorance on her part. I think to the line last season where her sister talk about her rescuing spiders. The thing with spiders is that they can bite and kill you regardless of how kind you are to them. Lenore didn't understand that part. As Ryan above said, "watch your pets."
To an extent, I think Hector allowed himself to be controlled, and It did feel like they had a mutual love for each other at the end. Honestly I find it a bit jarring how they changed Hector as a character, but if he played along the entire time Its do-able. Another odd point is, wouldn't hector as a great wizard kind of expect the ring trick? Surely this scenario ran through his head.
I did get a good laugh when Lenore asked why don't you just make something new of your own, and then carmilla is like why would I bother doing that when I can take with somebody else already built. Truly the attitude of a parasite, well suited to a vampire.
I would have loved if Belmont used more sub weapons, but that’s not a complaint, just a wish list. Seeing the rainstorm would have been badass, or seeing Alucard using Dark Metamorphisis, or the teleporting fireball move LOL. I’m a nerd
Honestly he had a lot of weapon changes so I'm not complaining. Any more may have just felt like fan service and not fit with the flow of the show itself, which cannot be exactly like the game and be good.
I'm pretty sure they've utilized basically every sub-weapon from the games, excluding the stopwatch the freezes time. They even gave him the zany boomerang-cross, which I'm pretty sure he turned into an Item Crash version against the Rebus. We even got Alucard's iconic shield and his double-jump wings. PLENTY of video-gamey references!
When Belmont fought death he wasn't fighting death in the infinite corridor, he was fighting death a top Dracula's castle. He was however sent to the infinite corridor as soon as he killed death by Germain, then Somehow later escaped the corridor and ended back up into the world.
I also wished for a different ending for her but I'm afraid she was convinced her very vampire nature was the problem. Not only for not being flexible and craving for immutable stability but for their relationship with power and strength. She mentioned how she and her sisters managed to enforce a stable bubble around them, she might have been uninterested in doing it all over again. But I so do what Hector had bargained with Isaac for her freedom
Ultimately, she realizes that vampirism is a prison and she realizes the strength needed to maintain stability isn't something she has. Hector's approach to life isn't a stable one and she can't go along with that, so she decides to break out of the prison and do what most vampires can't. I wasn't a fan of her dying, but it makes sense. It's interesting how all the major characters that died all, in the end, wanted something they couldn't have.
They could so do a Leon Belmont and Mathias Cronquvist series with characters like Ronaldo, Walter, and Joachim. Even throw in Trefor the creation of the Belmont hold.
Yeah they need to do that. Even if its like a 10 parter episode. They should also make the other belmonts all the way to julius. Since we never got a demon castle war and a young julius belmont we should make him look like leon. Leon never really fulfilled his promise to sara. So by making julius look like leon then its like leon finally fulfilled his promise
@Charles Hastings i can really imagine it. Since they really put an emphasis on the infinite corridor. so maybe they plan to connect/ reboot it a bit. But trevor and sypha's story is over they should not return.
I love that they really put more effort into showing Alucards abilities from symphony he turns into a wolf, bats, does dashes, has a magical sword that moves. Only im a little disappointed he didn't turn into a gas cloud, he doesn't have a little fairy friend, his sword doesn't talk or seem sentient like the game.
@@ryonintaka7439 all I wanted to hear was "GATHER BROTHER SOUL BLADES" and the familiar comes out to kick some ass th-cam.com/video/jwxIyf9s4E4/w-d-xo.html
11:01 Gergoth first appeared in the Dawn of Sorrow, if I remember correctly. 11:24 More than Death, this dude reminds me of the Necromancer from the Circle of the Moon.
Exactly my thought about the necromancer! Maybe the string lady was also the toymaker because of the use of strings + we saw her working on that rebis body thing
Also, Sypha rages when fighting against the Fleamen. It's maternal hormones, sure, but it's god damn fitting that she cusses fighting the most pesky Portrait of Ruin enemies
"The most pesky Portrait of Ruin enemies"?! Heck, the Fleamen are pesky in ALL of the Castlevania games... except Castlevania II: Simon's Quest and the first two Castlevania Game Boy games, in which they don't appear.
So abel just seemed like a devilman reference and a jojo stand reference rolled into one at first cause i forgot he appeared in the game. Cause... like... abel had an ORAORA moment fighting through the hallway.
Vlad and Lisa are dead. The Inn they checked into is their version of heaven. Their souls were put to rest after serving the penance of hell and being trapped in the Rebis. The holy water and the cross shaped blade was symbolic for a baptism/cleansing of sin.
I agree with that . I also think that the “holy spirt” and the aspected weapon judge them to be unworthy of death . Thus splitting them in half safely . That was the “baptism “ imo. Being stuck in that monstrosity of a body . They were honest people who tried to change but the world never likes change . Being Saved by a Belmont tho that’s gotta be the best part lolll
@@dylanjacobs661 I only thought of that because of the conversation between Flyseyes and Isaac. Main point being no one really knows for certain how long their sentence in hell is.
@@maxwellwu7499 yeah for real it could be some “ room of spirit and time” shit . I imagine satan would have temporal powers in is domain at least but that’s just speculation
I also found out when Saint Germain is in the infinite corridore you see a sphinx with a red moon in one of the doorways i that is from the Castlevania game :Portrait of ruin the area was called Forgotten city .
Yep. It even had the same colors. Not to mention in the third season we got a glimpse into another desert/Egyptian like area that resembled the other desert portrait, though I can't remember the name to that one. I just know it had one of my favorite soundtracks in all Castlevania games.
It's disappointing that the Evil Stabbers from LoI don't even get a mention in the video. For those unfamiliar, they're the green zombies with long claws and wrappings all over their bodies you see during the castle seige along with the Fleaman, Gergoth, and Manticore
This series was just amazing animation, voice acting Everything and Trevor is such a badass mannnn when the group reunited I was cheeeeeeeeeeeesn so hard
Here's a thought: that dagger was the series' interpretation of Claimh Solias, the "Blade of Light", which would fit perfectly from what we see of Trevor from Death's perspective with the powerful gleam of light coming from it, and a most befitting holy weapon used to overpower and finish off Death, even if we only ever see it "canonically" in the games of AoS and DoS.
@@marioquinoz7199 Well didn't Trevor say it was forged by someone who declared a one sided murder-suicide pact with God? So, someone who cursed God and wants to kill him and then himself, like Mathias Cronqvist either before or after be became Dracula. That is how I interpreted it anyway. Makes sense for Dracula to have a weapon that could counter Death as well, from like a tactical standpoint. Which would also explain why Trevor knew everything about the dagger when he saw it.
Disagree with/correcting a few things here. - 1:50 That vampire was not a reference to Shaft. I honestly don't know why so many people keep thinking that, Shaft is a unique character with a unique place in the story far from this time. A cloak that's the same color as one character doesn't make them a reference to that character... - 2:10 Those weren't gremlins or hunchbacks, they were 100% clearly Flea Men, from SoTN. Little cloaked demons that swarm and jump around with axes. No mistaking that one if you've played Symphony, lol. - 5:11 Legion is what it's called in Curse of Darkness. In Symphony of the Night, it's name is Granfaloon. - 5:12 Definitely not based on the Master Librarian. He's an old caretaker in the castle, and nothing more. Not even close to what the guy in the show is. A big no to that one. - 6:50 There was zero reason whatsoever to ever think that the judge was Zed...Again, a random piece of clothing on a random character doesn't make it a reference to a main one.... -One of the executive producers said Greta is not relevant to Grants character at all. -Missed Trevor finding the red rust in the box and immediately discarding it, which made me laugh a good bit. -Gergoth wasn't in SotN. When St Germain is in the Corridor, one of the gates has a Sphinx with a red moon over it, which is the Forgotten City from portrait of ruin, I think. -Carmillas sword strongly seems like the Muramasa. -You missed where Trevor activates the Flame Whip, the final form of the Morning Star, towards the end of his fight against Death. That, along with him item crashing the whip at the end of season 3, are both identical abilities that Richter uses in Symphony of the Night and Rondo, respectively. - You missed Alucards cape turning to wings for his double jump, his drop kick ability against the axe demons as he arrives at Danesti, and his gravity boots jump ability when he fights the teleporting guy with the axes. One last thing. THANK YOU for differentiating the Lords of Shadow timeline from the official canon. As a lifelong fan since the NES days, I can't tell you how aggravating that argument is to have with people that don't know the actual story, lol.
Strygas Day Armor is actually a clear reference to Artorias from Dark Souls, who in return is inspired by Guts Berserk Armor from Berserk. She even performed his moveset
The first vampire you mention among the 5 ones the trio fights has an strong resemblance with the Necromancer from Circle of the Moon though, even does a similar attack with those dark orbs. Also the battle of Trevor and Death might inspired by the Final Boss battle in Lament of Innocense.
That ring was only present in this season, not before. The other one was placed on the rebis so, as he believed, he could control it to open the infinite corridor more accurate for him.
@@cephery8482 oh man, i was soo confused when i saw that ring. i thought it was the same that hector had and somehow was related to the vampires.. i get it now
When i saw the ring on the body ,i though its dead carmilla's hand but its was hard to beleive ,next i thought the hector has killed/mutilated the lenore's hand. Later saint genore cleared my doubt himself ,but as much as i know one has to say the words to get binded by rings magic.
11:07 that night creature is actually the Armored Beast from Order of Ecclesia, a quick look at its sprite from the game will tell you right away that this is the same enemy.
You missed one enemy easter egg, that raven looking dude from where you said that you wished they were in the game, she IS in SOTN, called the "Crow Witch Malphas"
Actually there was another character that looked more like the Crow Witch Malphas that I mentioned in my Season 2 breakdown th-cam.com/video/LDlAyvds4qQ/w-d-xo.html Honestly there are too many Castlevania monsters, it gets confusing, lol.
I didnt think that it fit. Karasuman shoots feathers and the character that was animated used more of a poison needle attack. Now one was obviously marionette/puppet, the red armor guy was axe armor boss from bloodlines, and the death looking guy who could teleport and use lighting was wizard from belmonts revenge, but the other 2 just sermed too far a stretch to nail down to any single enemy
This is the only show in which I've seen a character who's never seen the sun be thoroughly underwhelmed by it and I'm here for it. As a person who has lived their life in the sun, yeah, it's pretty but not that impressive. It's like the moon but hotter and brighter (obviously not astrologically)
Greta of Danesti is essentially the shows version of Grant Danasty. or at least a counterpart to him. on top of the similarities of their first name, to me her clothing seems to have a color scheme vaguely similar to grants, though yes it is very different clothing, and more similar to his color scheme in symphony of the night. she is also shown to be a competent fighter against the night creatures, i'd have to rewatch the season again to see if she ever fights a proper vampire though. she's not on the level of the main trio yes, but still a good fighter in her own right. also, i remember her mentioning something about her family originally living in that place before it was a town(though i may be miss remembering), and with her leading the place i could totally see Danesti being her surname or the surname of an ancestor. so even though she's not actually grant in terms of lore or character design, and she's not turned into a monster then back to a human like grant was in the original game, she still seems to be a clear reference to the character in terms of their role fighting alongside the main group, also in the lore grant helped rebuild destroyed towns and villages in wallachia after the games and he was more remembered for that then as one of the vampire hunters who helped to take down dracula, and well... in the end that's what greta is doing and she's not really a vampire hunter. it's like, since grant isn't as big a role in the series compared to the other 3 dracula's curse player characters, and he is overall remembered the least by fans, they instead chose to have it so over the show we get vague references to grant in different places, like he was taken apart into multiple characters. fly-eyes with his humanization, though not literally turning human again like grant did, and overall color scheme similar to grant's monster form. the captain taking up his pirate aspects. and Greta having some similarities with his human appearance, working alongside the main trio (though mainly alucard), and helping to rebuild after all is said and done. so what im saying is the real Grant Danasty was the friends we made along the way.
@Lazy Mastermind yes, but fortunately nothing that's critical even this time The one scene Carmilla yells before Isaac arrives at her room, though. Not even moving. That felt weird
Spot on for some Castlevania games, right? You go the whole thing after an antagonist they say is the big baddie who either is dracula or trying to resurrect him then there's actually a huge surprise bigger baddie who is actually Chaos or something
Vareny I honestly knew he was up to something but DEATH my god I was like holy hell they Actually managed and succeeded in really connecting the Castlevania Lore to this adaptation which is honestly one of the best video game adaptation ever. It really was all a love letter to this series
On episode 3 there's a Metal Gear Solid 3 reference at the 9:01 mark. When Isaac reaches to grab the book you can see a Kerotan frog on the shelf below his hand.
At first, I took Dracula's ten-second resurrection before immediately being destroyed again as a bit of a nod to being done in the games a few times as well.
I don't know if anyone has picked it up yet, but in episode 2 when Sypha and Trevor are fighting the night creatures, the motif of the song, Wicked Child from first Castlevania game can be heard
Maybe somebody else has already mentioned, but the Gergoth enemy (to my knowledge...unless it was in a version we didn't get here in the U.S) is NOT in Symphony of the Night as the video states but from Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, and/or Harmony of Despair. SotN is my fave Castlevania game so I was confused at first when I heard that.
Your opening clip! That is a top 10 epic event, among all video in existence. Being a backslapped, "wait...what?" masterful "did not see that coming" amalgamation of film elements that brought the viewer a stampede of emotion types both deftly and swiftly. Absolutely beautiful...fuqing beautiful. Ellis, Deats, Kolde and crew deserve recognition as the first video game franchise to screen creators who not only pulled us nostalgic late 70s babies, but also a great deal of folks to have never faced off with a half screen height, 1/5 wide Vlad in a static room with three platforms--many even being introduced to the tale. Fuqing badassery!
I did. I was watching it and totally forgot the season was even coming then got hype and then when it came out I was like a addict on it all over again and am probably gonna watch the whole series again tonight or at least the 4th season.
So basically Trevor didn't actually kill Death as in the grimm reaper (concept of death itself). He actually just killed an ancient vampiric spirit that feeds of death.
Iirc the nuance is that the Elemental he killed was feeding of the deaths, as he died, there will be an another incarnation. it's an elemental, not a vampire, therefore you can't truly kill it.
Yeah it makes sense as you can't "kill" death, just stave it off or banish it for a while but it is always present. But rather than being just Dracula's 2nd in command as in the past they made a good explanation that the real reason Death hangs around is because Dracula's actions were such a good buffet
Check out F Paul Wilson's book The Keep sometime. Its seemingly a story about a powerful vampire that's unleashed from its prison in Nazi controlled Poliesti in Poland. It will give you an interesting take on the concept of "vampire".
I believe it was when Issac was talking to the "Old Magician" in the tower you could see on one of the shelves a jar that is clearly supposed to be the HP Up item in SoTN.
I do like this a lot, but I was really hoping we would get to see them do a season that was featured using Symphony of the Night as the basis so we could see a fully fleshed out Maria Renard, Belmont, Dark Priest Shaft, and Alucard having to stand and fight alone.
Easily the best season in terms of animation, effects and choreography. The third season was very dialogue heavy and felt more like a warmup for S4, so it was nice to see all the fighting. Great ending too, no need for another season, even though they could make one and follow Vlad and Lisa and the Danesti people I don't see how it could improve or add anything to the show. All in all, Castlevania is one of the best and most well made animated series ever created, and a huge testament that it is possible to make a good video game adaptation.
Holy shit, i’ve seen a ton of Castlevania content and played most of the games, but I’m only now learning that St Germain was an actual Castlevania character from Curse of Darkness.
Yea, give it a play if you're able. It really doesn't deserve the amount of hate it gets at all. Its definitely one of the more creative stories and gameplay of CV games.
While there wont be a continuation of Trevor's story, I remain hopeful that we'll get a follow up generational show. I would love to maybe see a series where each season follows a different protagonist. I'd love to see Richter in an animated form. He always seemed to be the most charismatic out of all the Belmonts and would even serve as a return of Alucard for Symphony of the Night.
imagine this is 100% canonical. The conversation between richter and Dracula at the beginning of SOTN in which dracula expresses with disgust being revived by humans to pay tribute would make a lot of sense, since 300 years passed and Lisa died of age. He no longer has anything to look for on earth.
In the games Dracula comes back every 100 years whether he wants it or not and on top of that, humans bring him back all the time, he must be really tired of that shit

How could devil may cry be a spin off? DMC is capcom, CV is konami
I really doubt that their spinoff series is going to be a Devil May Cry series simply because DMC is made by Capcom, and Castlevania is made by Konami.

I'm just happy that they added Grant at all. I've been waiting from the beginning to see him, now her enter the show.
I'd like for that to be true, but Kevin Kolde has gone on the record stating that Greta isn't really meant to be Grant at all.
He even jumps really high too. Instead if jumping over the gate, I believe he jumps onto the monsters head.
Let's be real here. If they had a chance to make Alucard even more gay, they wouldn't have changed it. Greta couldn't possibly be Grant. It seems they are going out of their way to add things like this to prove they are hip and with the times.
Drunk Alucard taking a leak in his Japanese zen garden was hilarious.

Kinda fun fact: The alchemical symbol on Death's left shoulder while they(?) are posing as the woman in the Infinite Corridor actually means "death."
It's small shit like that that makes me love this series i-
The Trevor/Sypha "I love you...I know" was also a reference to when right before Trevor goes to fight Death they have the same exchange, but with the roles reversed!
@@Bronzescorpion One of those when you think about it, they really did leave clues enough to guess it.
All you need to know is given to you in the series:
Trevor tells that the creature feeds on death, rather than being the actual Death.
Another odd point is, wouldn't hector as a great wizard kind of expect the ring trick? Surely this scenario ran through his head.

I wasn’t a fan of Lenore’s death. It seemed like she didn’t even try to find a new purpose in vampire-life.
That was the point in large part. Vampires aren't overly flexible or adaptable creatures.
It made sense if you paid attention to what she said before making that decision.
She stated that vampires are unable to adapt and rather have it to keep it at tge status quo.
The small green night creature on the 1st episode is more related to the fleaman than the gremlin.

Yeah they need to do that. Even if its like a 10 parter episode. They should also make the other belmonts all the way to julius.
As a lifelong fan since the NES days, I can't tell you how aggravating that argument is to have with people that don't know the actual story, lol.
cant wait for Alucard to meet Maria Renard
Strygas Day Armor is actually a clear reference to Artorias from Dark Souls, who in return is inspired by Guts Berserk Armor from Berserk. She even performed his moveset
Not everything is s reference to dark souls. It's victory armor
@@neloverg3774 her armor looks closet to artorias 's armor than guts armor is what people are saying.
Alucard's fight against the teleporting axe vampire ended with him crashing the vampire into the ceiling with his super jump from SoTN.
I like how they made death actually intimidating and evil instead of making it in some cute loli waifu.
Clearly you're speaking from prior experience. And now im both concerned and curious.
Pretty sure this is a Vinesauce reference
Gate
Sounds like Gate.
Yeah there's a lot of animes where harbingers of death and evil and doom are cute lovable characters so I get the point.
The first vampire you mention among the 5 ones the trio fights has an strong resemblance with the Necromancer from Circle of the Moon though, even does a similar attack with those dark orbs. Also the battle of Trevor and Death might inspired by the Final Boss battle in Lament of Innocense.
glad I wasn't the only one that caught that!
Yes, I definitely missed that. I never really played Circle of the Moon to be honest. I just watch some footage of it.
@@StoryDive give it a try, the controls are a bit clunky at first, but imo is the second best GBA Castlevania after Aria of Sorrow
I think Saint Germaine had the same ring Hector had, that's why he was obsessed with that woman
Yeah I was going to mention that but forgot it. It's possible she made him her slave.
That ring was only present in this season, not before. The other one was placed on the rebis so, as he believed, he could control it to open the infinite corridor more accurate for him.
@@cephery8482 Yeah, good point.
Good catch
yeah, he got a fair amount wrong this time
And the spiders look like the ones in the forest that shoot poison at you. "Looks delicious." Lol
@@84blizzle ahh yes the Arachne, although these ones are far more grotesque compared to the more feminine looking ones we’ve seen in the games
@@84blizzle They don't look very similar at all, but they indeed share the acid attack.
I liked the part where Alucard said "I'm turning into Belmont" and foreshadowed almost every character's personality just being Trevor
Karasuman. Crow Witch Malphas was a Lords of Shadow boss.
Sun is thoroughly impressive.
When Belmont throws his cross through the bag of holy water...
It's a nod to his Holy Cross ability.
No, one of the executive producers said she's in no way relevant to Grants character....
The phasing/teleporting axe-wielding vampire? Does he have a reference from the games? He was AWESOME!
I don't know. But I think that's Godbrand's old design. Probably why they gave him quite an interesting battle scene.
I hope they do the Lament of Innocence story for a prequel season
I kinda noticed how the animations had some fewer frames a second and doesn't look so fluid.
I noticed that too. I thought it was common in the other seasons as well, but I can't remember.
@@Virtuosome There was definitely some choppy framerate in earlier seasons.
@@argent4444 Yeah but it was worse this season
What's up with the lagging
@Lazy Mastermind yes, but fortunately nothing that's critical even this time
The one scene Carmilla yells before Isaac arrives at her room, though. Not even moving. That felt weird
I really should have known better that a final fight wouldn't be anything without DEATH! And boy was that a surprise!!!!
Spot on for some Castlevania games, right? You go the whole thing after an antagonist they say is the big baddie who either is dracula or trying to resurrect him then there's actually a huge surprise bigger baddie who is actually Chaos or something
@@hugofontes5708 Exactly!!!! You got it Hugo!!!!!
@@LowellLucasJr. too bad people new to Castlevania won't get that memo 👀
That crack in the sky made by the distance mirror reminded me of the garganta from Bleach
Thank god, your the only youtuber that gets to the point instead of others that have a long intro then talk about the Easter eggs 30 minutes later.
Let’s not forget that when Alucard first shows his castle to the village people he says “welcome to my home” another Bram Stokers Dracula reference
12:50
Quick note, but right before Trevor goes to fight Death, Sypha actually got to Han Solo him first.
4:15 this reminds me of "death" threatening saint Germaine " If you don't bring dracula back i Will kill you ,but If you do he Will kill "Lmao
Vareny I honestly knew he was up to something but DEATH my god I was like holy hell they Actually managed and succeeded in really connecting the Castlevania Lore to this adaptation which is honestly one of the best video game adaptation ever. It really was all a love letter to this series
The Vampire doing the sacrificial spell at the start of ep 1 (1:57 in this vid) looks a lot like Vincent Price.
On episode 3 there's a Metal Gear Solid 3 reference at the 9:01 mark. When Isaac reaches to grab the book you can see a Kerotan frog on the shelf below his hand.
I know! Next to the .... All seeing eye broach from curse of darkness, they snuck that in good
At first, I took Dracula's ten-second resurrection before immediately being destroyed again as a bit of a nod to being done in the games a few times as well.
another thing that I noticed is that Carmilla's sword kinds looks like Muramasa from symphony of the night
The only weird thing about this season is how suddenly death shows up and it's like.. Ok. And then Trevor is like banzaiii, ok.
I'm not crying you're crying. As Lenore watches the sunrise.
I'm crying, I thought that they would become lovers
Loved this season, Isaac was such a badass
If striga was w carmilla do you think he could've pulled it off? I love Issac too but idk
@@marioquinoz7199 Yeah...he would of had to deal with her first somehow.
I don't know if anyone has picked it up yet, but in episode 2 when Sypha and Trevor are fighting the night creatures, the motif of the song, Wicked Child from first Castlevania game can be heard
i thought it was but it was so subtle i wasn't sure if it was just me playing it in my head out of habit
Every battle scene had me on the edge. An absolute cult following here.
if you look closely you can see alucard use the double jump upgrade he gets in sotn, his cape turns into wings
Seeing Abel had me screaming like a fan girl, because lord I remember getting Cain as Hector.
The design of death was just epic . The best grim reaper I've ever seen in my life in an animation.
Question?
Did anyone else binge watched the whole series again before starting on season 4 or just jumped in to the madness of it without catching up
I just started S4 because i don't have the memory of a moron
I did. I was watching it and totally forgot the season was even coming then got hype and then when it came out I was like a addict on it all over again and am probably gonna watch the whole series again tonight or at least the 4th season.
Excellent video! One thing I asleep noticed was Alucard using his double jump where his cape momentarily transforms into feathered wings.
@@devilsadvocate2643 It has fangs though
@@Markotsuki True but he says it himself "I am a spirit, a function of the world [...] I am not a vampire as you understand it"
Yeah it makes sense as you can't "kill" death, just stave it off or banish it for a while but it is always present.
I never noticed that Trevor was doing the Belmont pose from the other games in the series
Holy shit, i’ve seen a ton of Castlevania content and played most of the games, but I’m only now learning that St Germain was an actual Castlevania character from Curse of Darkness.
the game its not that bad, the story is really creative tho
Agreed. Curse of Darkness is my fave Castlevania game
He always seemed to be the most charismatic out of all the Belmonts and would even serve as a return of Alucard for Symphony of the Night.
fast forward to the future, new show is confirmed with Ricther, so yeah probably making Rondo of blood/Symphony of the night story arc
Have you watched Nocturne already..?? Whats your take on the story..??
Never thought that Simon would be the show as Trevor‘s kid I always thought it was Christopher or his father
imagine this is 100% canonical.
