Check out my cultural breakdown of Disney's new film "Encanto" th-cam.com/video/atT5nSKXvac/w-d-xo.html
What culture did you notice in Naruto Shippuden?
Also, I'd like to quickly address my pronunciation of the names in this video, which I've had a lot of comments on. I watched the series in Japanese with subtitles, in which the names are said slightly differently than the English dub. I tried to imitate the names in Japanese although as my Japanese isn't great, I probably didn't succeed in that either. Sorry about that!

During the final fight between Naruto and Sasuke. At the end of the fight Sasuke uses a technique which he called "Indra's arrow". This is notable because in Hindu mythology; Indra ( like Zeus in the Greek mythology) was considered to be the "Chief" of his pantheon (family of gods) and ( like Zeus ) is noted to be a god of the "sky and storm."
Sasuke's technique as reference also has another layer.
Not only was Indra considered to be the chief god with power over the sky and storms.
But he is also famous for being a god of the "Forrest and hunting". And his favoured tool for hunting was a "bow and arrow".

Gai Maito techniques most likely based on four legendary beasts:
      Asakujaku - Suzaku (Red Sparrow/Phoenix)
      Hirudora - Byakko (White Tiger)
Night Gai - Seiryu (Blue Dragon)
Ninkame Summon - Genbu (Black Turtle)

    Also:
Apparently Kaguya's Yomotsu Yirasaka is a reference to the Japanese mythological slope that leads to the underworld.

It's filled with various references and symbolism. Even the anbu masks are kabuki masks and it's just wonderful to see them so well integrated. It was a good anime that really sucked me in, but just not the best :)

I mean the sage of six paths is a mash up of alot of religious leaders. Laotsu (i know i spelled that wrong) because the sage of six paths 5 weapons are the same as the ones lautsu owned in journey 2 the west (and the gold and silver demons), not to mention all the trigams and daos he has. The budda because he gains enlightenment after literally fighting off monsters under a tree for days on end (although the Buddha was a mental battle). And a shinto preist because he has the white gown and that staff thing i can't remember the name of.

To add to Paths of Pain background, it's pretty amazing how they're made of no-name characters but every bit of brief characterization Kishimoto put in them was planned and intentional.
    1. Deva/Tendo (Yahiko) - In Buddhism, the Deva realm is the realm of bliss. The Deva realm is sometimes also referred to as the *"god's realm" because, compared to humans, its inhabitants are so powerful that they could be compared to deities.*
Yahiko wanted to become the god of the new world.
    2. Animal/Chikushōdō (summonings) - Buddhists believe that animals inhabit a different dimension separated from humans not spatially but mentally; *an unhappy plane of rebirth which revolves around fear, instinct and survival of the fittest, suffered by those animals that work for humans* and, above all, by those ignorant to what is happening to them.
The guy who had summoning powers was the one that fought Jiraiya, as well as his main character in the book, in the forest. He puts in the perspective how inevitable war is, how futile it is to stop him, how impossible peace is and how you can either destroy or be destroyed.
    3. Asura/Shurado (cyborg) - In Buddhism, the Asura realm is the plane of semi-divine warring demons which people are reincarnated in due to actions based on jealousy, struggle, combat or rationalization in a previous life, and though powerful, *live in constant violence and conflict to which there is no resolution nor peace. They are known to live a life pursuing power, while indulgent and representative of materialistic and carnal pleasures.* It also draws inspiration from Hinduism, where Asuras in mythology purportedly had the ability (called Astra) to use magical equivalents to modern day biological missiles.
That's the guy in a with a hat and little puppet that Jiraiya meets at the start of his journey, in ruins of a house. He goes with the flow of era of destruction, as Jiraiya put it. He is motivated by materialistic gains and adjusts his usual profession to what the fighting countries need for waging conflicts. Also there is the obvious parallel of mechanical aspect.
    4. Human/Ningendo (the one that Jiraiya blinded with his kick) - In Buddhism, the Human realm (also known as the "Manuṣya realm") is based on passion, desire, doubt, and pride. It is widely believed that the Human realm is the form of rebirth *most likely to attain enlightenment, due to both the availability of information and teachers, and the ability to reason without falling victim to the obsessive aggression or carnal delights* inherited by the higher planes.
This is the blue haired guy (looks way too much like Dan btw.) that Jiraiya met in a tavern. Not only is he a teacher but that, as the name suggest, is the most "grounded" and relatable of all paths. He represents the perspective of the most common people (his students) and teaches them how to survive and also to "make the right decisions" which (because it suggests he doesn't outright do combat training) plays into not falling a victim to the shortcomings highlighted above, like the higher planes do.
    5. Preta/Gakido (absorption guy) - In Buddhism, the Preta realm (also known as the Hungry Ghost realm) is a reincarnation based on strong possessiveness and desire which were cultivated in a previous life or lives. The Preta are humanoid creatures which are *perpetually hungry and thirsty, but are unable to satisfy themselves, living lives similar to those of hopeless addicts trying to appease their unyielding hunger.*
He was the unsatisfied and angry dude in that tavern, the one that tried to hit the blue haired teacher. He refused to pay for the gambling game. He was also heavily complaining about unfair state of his life and how little did his efforts amount to while trying to better his land, only to drown his misfortune in sake.
    6. Naraka/Jigokudo (spikes in his angular jaw guy) - In Buddhism, the Naraka realm, or *"hell realm", is a plane of rebirth, based on Karma (actions of body, speech, and mind)* built up in a previous life or lives. There are various Naraka, each *containing beings that are tormented until their Karma has achieved its full and satisfactory results.*
This was another teacher-like figure, this time met by Jiraiya in a destroyed village with crowd of people. He presents by far the most hopeless perspective, as at first he is preaching about at least possibility of peace if there is enough effort but then says that this world is self destructing hell and nobody can stop it. He fully focuses on a spiritual aspect (like Karma above) and has little group of followers that is encouraged by him to do the same, which can be seen as contained beings that are tormented until their Karma gets better.

Impressive video! If I can add more to this, not sure if others said the same thing, but here goes:
The First Hokage uses some Hindu/Buddhist figure in his technique - Veritable 1,000 Arm Kanon (Shinsuu Senju) is also a popular figure the Bodhisattva Guanyin that is featured in folklore like Journey to the West. His wood golems resemble statues of Japanese/Hindu deities as well.
Third Hokage Sarutobi Hiruzen uses a summon that is basically the Monkey King Sun Wukong as well, able to transform into the iron cudgel that he uses as his main weapon.
The Sannin and their summons are essentially a Japanese folklore trio I beleive, that always fights to a stalemate. Someone else can probably provide more info into this if I'm on the right track. And Jiraiya himself is a legendary ninja from folklore also.

Another thing about the 1000 arm Kannon is that it's also an aspect of the mythology behind Guanyin. If I recall, she was able to generate many arms that reached out and healed or helped people. So it's actually a thing and why you would sometimes see the Buddhist depictions of her with many arms in pictures and statues.

@@Ash-fu6jf he wasn’t a bad person nor did he want fear, he simply wanted to improve the hidden leaf his own way. Both itachi and shisui despite being dealt wrongly by Danzo still believed that he did it for god reasons, if they believe so then I don’t know what’s convincing enough.

Budhism have lot of its share from hindism because gautam budha was once hindu prince who renounced his position and wealth to seek enlightenment as a spiritual ascetic, attained his goal and, in preaching his path to others, founded Buddhism..

The dual destruction of Konohagakure and Sunagakure can very easily be read as the dual attacks on Nagasaki and Hiroshima; even to the point that such events lead to the "end of war"/prelude to peace and modernization (although inversed between show and reality)

@StoryDive Here is something you missed. Konan, pain’s partner is often know as Lady Angel, which aka the goddess of mercy Guanyin who often come from heaven to help the helpless. the 10000 arm attack that is the 1st hokage ultimate attack is also a reference to guanyin, when lord Buddha decided to give her 10000 to reach and help people’s in need! Heck I believe the name of that attack even have “konan” in it. Konan is Guanyin in Japanese!
