    Tip: If you edited your video already in a different timeline(that use the horizontal video format). You can copy that timeline to the newly created timeline that use the vertical video format.
    Thank you for this video!

      And then every minor edit we perform in the wide timeline gets copy-pasted to a new timeline? Almost every video talking about creating vertical videos make the faulty presumption that we want to make a new timeline, or, go through the process of delete-all-copy-pasting from timeline wide to timeline talk. I figured it out once for scale-to-fill with cropping but can’t remember and now none of these tutorial vids are helping.
      Edit: fixed, works; I get Timeline Settings and the “timeline” settings within Project Settings mixed up when not using them all the time, and following along with helper vids online. My Timeline Settings had “use Project Settings” unchecked. All good now. Happy new year 🎉

    I changed the timeline to 1080 x 1920 but I don't have the checkmark box displaying (use vertical resolution) and also under the render settings it didn't show (use vertical resolution) for for TH-cam or under custom rendering, I then tried typing in the resolution under resolution as 1080 x 1920 and added to render Queue then hit render but it failed to render.
    Note I am using the free version of davinci resolve 17 if that means anything. You might be using 18. I'm not sure.

    Hey Jason, first of all thanks for all your great videos, I've been watching a lot of them lately. I wonder if you have any video explaining how you do the 'mouse tracking / focus' effect. The one you use when you want to show something than you remove the color from the background, create a circle around the mouse that is zoomed in. Can anyone help me with that?

    • @JasonYadlovski
      @JasonYadlovski  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I do that effect using my screen, recording software, Screenflow for Mac. I assume you can do it in Resolve, but I’ve never done it there. The screen recording program automatically tracks the mouse cursor.

    #shorts I have a shorts channel on which I usually upload videos using my laptop. But lately, I have been trying to upload from my Android phone on the YT app because I want to choose a cover (thumbnail) and I want to link to trending music. However, I'm running into a problem. When I try to upload my edited video, it says "Unable to preview video". I'm using DaVinci Resolve Studio to edit my videos, so it could be my export settings? I tried a bunch of different options but all result in the same error.

    • @JasonYadlovski

      Hi! What are you using for the export settings? Are you making sure to tic the vertical video option when exporting? Here's the settings I'd use for exporting video for TH-cam: th-cam.com/video/AbXeFcabJpw/w-d-xo.html

      Same Problem here, my vertical videos have black bars on the left and right side, if i export them in 4k. But it even is 4k, vertical filmed footage?
      It looks like, i have to zoom in the video before exporting?
      Everything is fine, when the video is exported in 1080 vertical.
      When i preview this video in 4k, everything is fine.

    ok that worked, but when I start a new project, how do I save and select this (vertical) timeline again? (surely I don't have to recreate a new timeline each time).

    • @JasonYadlovski
      @JasonYadlovski  26 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Hey! So you can open up the project settings (gear icon at the bottom right) and then click the 3 dots ( . . . ) in the top right and then save those project settings as a preset. You can even make them the default settings for every new project if you want. This way you don' need to recreate the wheel in every project.

  • @Content-Crossover
    @Content-Crossover 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    So I imported this one clip from Twitch, which was horizontal. I did my research and set my timeline settings to 'vertical resolution.' However, the clip itself remained horizontal within the vertical format, which I didn't consider until I uploaded it as a short. Consequently, you could see the black borders of the vertical format. Additionally, I couldn't transform the video into the vertical format because doing so would cut off parts of the clip that I wanted to include. Is there any way to fix this?

    • @JasonYadlovski
      @JasonYadlovski  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Because the clip was originally horizontal, you are going to have to crop it some way in order to fit a full screen vertical video. If you want to keep the video horizontal, but stick it in a vertical video, you can use the Blanking Fill effect to get rid of the black bars and show a blurry version of the video in the background. I've got a video on the Blanking Fill tool. The other option is to scale up the video and keyframe the panning so you can see the parts you want in the the frame.

    • @Content-Crossover
      @Content-Crossover 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for the advice. I will deffinelty look into the blankfilling effect. How can I scale up the video and keyframe the panning? I suppose I can look that up in youtube and do my research. Also, how do other channels that post clips from streamers get the video fit perfectly into a vertical frame? Becuase for me I would have to crop the face cam and put it somewhere where you can see it in frame.

    • @JasonYadlovski
      @JasonYadlovski  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Take a look at this video, it should help you out with changing the horizontal to vertical video. There’s no way to do it other than cropping it, and reframing it. I’ll show you how to do that in this video, hopefully it’s helpful. How I Make SHORTS (TikTok's) from Long Form Content in DAVINCI RESOLVE 18 | Workflow, Tips & Tricks!

    I did upload a 4K short some time ago and it refused to see it as a short of 59 secs and just published it as a normal video with black sides. Has this now changed?

    • @krdcountrytv
      @krdcountrytv ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve had the same problem so I now limit vertical videos to 58 seconds. Problem solved. I think it just depends on how the TH-cam clock measures the length of the video.

    • @JasonYadlovski
      @JasonYadlovski  ปีที่แล้ว

      Same here, I just make the video a little shorter and then it usually works out ok.

  • @HardcoreSustainable
    @HardcoreSustainable 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    When I set it to vertical resolution and hit save it doesn't save the setting. It automatically goes back to horizontal. My guess is the pixel aspect ratio is the problem. It only gives me square and cinemascope as options, not 16:9. It does the same thing when I go to render. It just won't allow me to check the vertical resolution box. It's mind bogglingly annoying that it keeps changing every setting back to whatever it wants. I thought if you set something, it was set.

    • @JasonYadlovski
      @JasonYadlovski  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's strange, are you adjusting the project settings or just the timeline settings? I've never seen it not hold the changes....something must be off somewhere. 🤔

    Man davinci sucks for vertical video. The rendering lowers the quality so much. Its almost better to record my screen in OBS vs render the video lol... (edit the free version restricts you to 1920x1080)

    • @JasonYadlovski
      @JasonYadlovski  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey! You’re right, the free version does restrict you a little bit, but I was going to say you can always boost up the render settings to get better quality. If you edit a lot of video, the studio version is totally worth the one time price of 300 bucks. Then you’ll be able to get the best quality for everything. 😁👍
