I don't know if this will speed up your workflow or not, but here are a couple things I do that are a little different than you: 1. When creating the timeline for the Shorts, on the tab to select Vertical Resolution, on the bottom there is a Mismatched Resolution section. If you set that to Scale Full Frame with Crop, then all the footage will automatically fill the Shorts frame. Then you can make adjustments from there. 2. You don't need to copy and paste footage from one timeline to the other, you can just drag from one to the other and it'll copy it over. 3. Instead of using keyframes to keep the shots on the target person, you can use Smart Reframe and either have it auto detect the person or you manually select the person you want it to follow.
This is exactly the video I needed to watch today. I'm in the middle of one of those kind of video projects that will use multiple aspect ratios. When the student is ready, the teacher appears. Thanks Jason!
This was awesome. Been getting into editing recently and wanted to know how shorts were done. Not only did I learn that but probably more than any other video so far. This was perfect and exactly what I was after and then some!
When you want to grab a section of a timeline, I would recommend setting an in and out point on the timeline, then copy. It automatically selects all clips (or portions thereof) vertically through the timeline. This makes sure all audio/video clips are selected (as long as you don't have a clip already selected, otherwise you only get that particular clip). The click and drag method can miss unlinked clips on deeper/higher layers.
I recently downloaded da vinci resolve 18 free version, and started searching TH-cam like how it works, the tutorials, ...... then I found your channel and I literally say it is Awesome. Thank You once again because I am searching for a good Video Editing Software for my TH-cam Video Editing, but until last week I don't know that this very powerful Software ( Da Vinci ) is actually free 😅 and Yeah now I can also create Shorts from it. LOVE FROM INDIA ❤❤💙💙
For me, who is a beginner, this video helped a lot, and answered a few question i had, when i couldn't find how to do something i wanted to. Keep it up with more tips and tricks about shorts :D
Needed this EXACT video searched something thinking ill have to look through so many videos to find what i needed.... bro ur video was EXACTLY what i needed thank you so much and this is so in depth literally perfect
Thank you so much for this! I've been trying internet apps to make shorts but the quality is ATROCIOUS and finally wondered if i could just do it in Davinci. Your video was very helpful, I just wish at the end it had how to render the video - had to watch someone else's video to get that. Then i threw it into capcut for captions and voila! It's amazing. Thanks again!
Absolutely awesome. The ability to view two timelines at once makes the edit so much faster. Been using Davinci Resolve for a week and have learned a lot from videos like yours. Thank you.
Awesome Video! Glad I found it first as I have not had to waste my time. 🤣 A very smooth delivery and easy to follow demo with a few techniques for improving my overall Davinci Resolve skills! 😁
Hey Jason, love what you’re doing on the channel. I think a faster way is to simply duplicate your first sequence and then change to the vertical settings. I also select the option to scale the video to full height so you don’t need to individually change each clip. The real magic happens using the smart reframe option! This uses AI to reframe but you also have the option to select a reference point. Blessings
Thanks so much Jason. I've been thinking of trying out doing some shorts on my two YT channels and knew that you would have a video on this. I'm about to give it a go. Your video makes great sense, thank you! 💖 Gee, I wish we had a church like yours near where I live! Yours looks awesome! (I live in a remote area in the southwest of Western Australia and my nearest church is lovely but very small and usually there's just a piano) Enjoy. I always felt that you had a good, kind heart; now I know where it comes from. Jesus's blessings be upon you 🙏💓 Best wishes, Alison Hood💕
You're welcome! Give it a shot and see how it works out. 😁 Our church is great, solid teaching from God's word. It's a blessing for sure. I'm glad I can use my talents to help serve at our church. 😜
Another informative video that gets straight to the point! Subscribed! Thanks! BTW, does Davinci have an auto remove silence feature? I remove the silences with audacity, but Davinci's auto sync feature doesn't match up the audacity wave file with the video file.🤷♂
Hey Jason!!! Awesome video my friend... Between you, Alex tech and Casey I have got to learn a heap of Great stuff inside of Davinci Resolve, Thank you so much from over here in the UK. When it comes to centering the subject have you tried using 'Smart Reframe' in the edit page, just above cropping in the inspector?... It's worth a play with especially when it comes to cropping for social media pages and following the point of interest. Just sharing the love brother... I have learnt so much from you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. God bless🎧🎙🎥🎬
Thanks Mark! I have tried the smart reframe, but usually I don’t get the results I want, that’s why I keep framed at this time. But I’ll keep giving it a try hopefully to work out one of these times.
Hey Jason, thanks for responding buddy, you probably do loads more than I do, most of my work is in features 16x9 , sorry that my idea fell flat hahaha . Keep the great content coming my friend. My audio has improved greatly... Thanx again
Thanks! I do that in Screenflow, my screen, recorded software, here’s a video on how I do it: th-cam.com/video/CKfOJAxmPcs/w-d-xo.htmlsi=QvIs1exlfdLWhTAH
I have a question. If I want to make multiple shorts from the same clip, will the original source video clip remain intact after making a short? Do I have to make a copy of the original just to use in DaVinci and then when I've made one short I have to start over again and re-import another copy of the clip? Or does DaVinci preserve the orginal so that you can go back to it repeatedly as you need? I know maybe it's a daft question but I remember deleting an image from the media clip pool and it deleted the original on my hard drive, it hadn't made a copy, had that been some unique footage I would have had a really bad day, seemed weird that it would do that.....thanks buddy, if this makes no sense don't worry....xD
The media will always live in the media pool in its original state. You can use it as many times as you'd like and modify it in a timeline however you want. But you can't delete the clip from the medial pool because the timeline just links to the clip in the media pool.
@@JasonYadlovski Thanks for your reply, you have a lot of subs so thanks for listening...just to say that I had a quick dabble with DaVinci a few years ago and I had wallpapers in the media pool and I'm not sure what I did but I seem to remember that when I deleted one of the images from the media pool that it was also deleted from the hardrive and I had to restore it from the recycle bin? I don't know whether this was just a procedural glitch but that's what happened. I didn't really want that to happen with more sizeable files and things. I don't know if you have ever come across this but tbh it was a bit strange but eh...thanks again buddy and have a fun day! ;D
Just in time! I just started getting into YT Shorts, and this is very educational. Thank you! A random question: Is there a way to change the color of the viewer background (light grey??) so that it would be easier to see the video's window dimensions?
@@JasonYadlovski I’ve been watching your content for a few months now and just found out! It makes me even more excited to follow your journey. I wish it was easier to make videos not directly about faith where it’s still obvious that we’re Jesus lovers 🙃
I think it's relatively easy - you just live it. Be kind to people, respond with kindness even when people are negative towards you, etc. People notice that something is 'different' but they don't know what it is. Then sometimes, the opportunity comes up we can share about our faith.
I don't know if this will speed up your workflow or not, but here are a couple things I do that are a little different than you:

Came to the comments to mention Smart Reframe. I use it exclusively to follow my face in shorts lol.
I find sometimes smart reframe works good and other times it doesn’t work well. Depending on the shot. But totally worth a try!

To save time from manually tracking the subject to stay in frame, I would try smart reframe and see how it delivers.
I’ve tried smart reframe a bunch and don’t get good results.
Really useful. New subscribe!
Thanks! Welcome to the community and channel! I appreciate you subscribing!
The face of the singer was nicely contrasted with the background, you could have tracked it to avoid key framing manually.
