I have never seen a video editing tips video this useful! I've been using Davinci for like 2 years but never learnt to set it up properly because I rarely do editing. This video will save me hours for my next project!
Shortcuts Mentioned S - Split Clip D - Delete Selected W - End to Playhead Q - Start to Playhead 3 - Swap Clips Towards Left 4 - Swap Clips Towards Right A - Select Clips Forward on All Tracks 1 - Zoom In 2 - Zoom Out Personal Note I find the key A to be useful when switching from Trim Edit to Normal Edit mode so I assigned Select Clips Forward on All Tracks to the key E instead.
Appreciate the insight! Just from a pure letter persective, I wonder if it would make more sense to have Edit swapping to E, and All Tracks selection to A though?
@@unlockthepicture me too. I’m new so I don’t have a lot of experience but I think the other shortcuts for these keys are not used very often so I just disable them
It would be a shame if he’s not back in the next videos giving us more tips he obviously told us several times he enjoys doing this and we have to support him supporting us
The two of you together is so fun no matter what you’re doing. We need more of BOTH of you in every video. Like maybe we could hear Kirk from behind the camera more like Peter was doing in this one. 😎
YES!!! Thank you Captain. Best DaVinci Resolve video I’ve ever watched. We’ll actually the only one I even finished watching. Please keep them coming Kirk. My wife and I really appreciate it.
Consider making this a recurring theme. I've been playing around with Davinci for a year now and the sheer amount of features is daunting. Videos like this are super helpful.
I honestly never thought I would ever see a heavy hitter like PMK using Davinci Resolve like. He was such a purist Adobe fan boy lol. But ya I am happy that DVR is getting the attention it deserves.
Love seeing Kirk on camera! As someone who's new to the talking head space, it really puts into perspective that a "perfect video" is just a million cuts to create a seemless video
Give Group Grades a try too! You can group scenes or cameras however you like, and do colour transforms after clip adjustments and noise reduction before. So you can tie the look of a scene to the group while allowing you do clip level adjustments before the look and transform luts are applied, maintaining access to all of your colour information.
Hey Guys, This video has been by far the single most useful knowledge for a beginner. I have only recently started editing and I've only used Davince Resolve for around 40-50 hours now. In that time I have had to ask a lot of questions that I don't even know how to phrase because I don't know editing terms for them. This video has so greatly explained these concepts and really useful hotkey binds. Just by implementing the hotkeys into my work flow, it's just so well expedited my production. Thank you very much!
I’ve just started my photography TH-cam channel and I use DaVinci to edit. I can’t tell you the amount of time all these tips will save me. Literally everything you pointed out has slowed me down so this is a HUUUUGE help!
I am leaving Adobe forever for all the obvious reasons, I appreciate these DaVinci tutorials and find them very helpful. Kirk is pure gold, he deserves a salary bonus for the on camera work.
I’ve been using Resolve for a year now and still learned a bunch from these tips! One thing to do about the smart rendering too would be to set your cache location (or at least know where it is) so your computer doesn’t start hoarding the media. If it’s on your computer, check your storage every few months, and if it seems jacked up for no reason, it’s probably the cache growing to unprecedented sizes 😅
Just made the switch from adobe premiere to DaVinci Resolve myself and haven’t looked back since! really happy you are starting to share your tips on it. Feel like we are all learning together🏴☠️
I've been editing on Resolve for 2 years now and ONLY TODAY, you made my life so much easier! Thanx for the tip on the Blanking Fill FX. Highly appreciated Captain!
Leaving a comment for Capt. Kirk. You crushed it dude. I need more of these. I am just starting out with true video editing and I learned more in this 9-minute video than so many 30-minute tutorials that just don't hit the important stuff like you did. Well done. More please 🤣
Dude!!!! Just started with resolve yesterday, this video was right on time. My first session was time consuming, frustrating, and clunky. These tips alone got me re-motivated to hop back in.
I'm getting close to finishing my first major project at work all within Davinci. The one thine that is really intimidating is color correcting. I've been so used to Lumetri in Premiere, that coming over to Davinci is a bit overwhelming. I would love to see tutorials on color correcting if you're looking to do more Davinci content!
I can highly recommend Cullen Kelly's work here on TH-cam. He's a fantastic teacher, very elaborate yet to the point explanation of how to do color correction and grading, including node setup and color spaces. Got me up to speed in no time after having gone around watching all kinds of random YT videos. He has everything playlisted for convenience.
Hey Jordan! How do you go about creating/saving project files to a external SSD? From what ive seen Davinci just likes to have one whole library filled with project files but the OCD freak in me isnt enjoying this haha. I'm used to the simple project file creation like in premiere - any tips?
I just hope Mattie isn't reading all these comments saying its great seeing them together making him feel bad lol Hey Mattie if you are reading this.......*fart noise*
This video made me switch. I don't know why it pushed me over the edge, but I'm so glad I did. Apple updated their video codex a few updates ago, and I had been having a hell of a time getting Adobe Premier Pro to recognize my footage any time I tried to inport a MOV file. My work arounds had got so convoluted. I hadn't considered just leaving Adobe. But hearing your experience was all the encouragement I needed. And can I just say, DaVinci Resolve is soooooooo much better! My goodness, how did I not make this switch before?! It's so much easier and more powerful. My workflow it so much faster. Anyway, thank you Kirk for posing about DaVinci Resolve. You changed my life for the better in such a major way. Thank you. I hope you keep doing it.
Love how Peter and Matti have switched to Resolve at the same time, after all these years. And I'm guessing it's because of Kirk showing them the light. I need more Kirk videos.
The new updates along with voice isolation are making Adobe shiver. It's also becoming more intuitive to use. So glad we have so many Blackmagic cams at the office too! Great episode again kirk. Looking forward to seeing more of you boet!
I love seeing more creators jump over to Resolve. I never liked the thought of paying a subscription for an editor (even if I already do for Photoshop and Lightroom)
Kirk is so funny, you guys mesh well and yes WE NEED MORE RESOLVE VIDEOS. Seriously I’ve learned some cool and quick tips that I was doing manually and wasting time with. This is all kind of golden nuggets and very helpful
Love this super wide aspect ratio with the anemorphic lenses! Which lens are you using for this? Also, don't know about you guys but I have to be careful to clean out my prerender caches often, because Davinci wasn't auto deleting the caches after I'd finish and close the project, and ate my hard drive space like it was breakfast. Any tips would be great. I'm sure you can move it to a seperate drive with more space but I'd rather keep my caches fast on my NvMe drive.
Big giant thank you!!! I have been trying to figure out how to color grade the entire track instead of applying grade to each clip… would have never thought it was the remote grading option there! You just got a new subscriber. Thanks again guys.
I'm always watching these kinds of things to help speed up my workflow in DaVinci and I gotta say mission accomplished here! That Ripple Delete is my new favorite!
Been editing on Da Vinci Resolve for 12 years, it's good to see people finally recognizing what is the best color grading/editing system... even better than Avid Media Composer.
I'd watch this dude all day. I'm totally new to Divinci, this is mostly all still over my head, but I'll revisit in a few weeks I will thank you again.
I've been using DaVinci for nearly a year now and didn't know some of these things. My life is now enriched. All hail Captain Kirk! See you next month buddy 😘
Hats off to you, Kirk! Been using DaVinci for some years now and watched tons of tutorials. THIS one had more info than i`ve gotten in years watching other tutorials 😂
We want more Kirk! But also props to Kirk for being in front of the camera, especially if he really doesn't like it. And even more props to Kirk for sharing some of his editing workflow with internet which can be a cruel and judgmental place.
I don't know what I would do if Kurt wasn't back next month. I have been using Davinci Resolve for the past few month's and you have shown me at least 3 things that I didn't know. Much appreciation.
Uh.. of course Peter McKinnon has this video. I just switched to Resolve this week and haven't watched much PM recently but here we are back with Professor Pete making my life better.
bro this helps soooooo MUCH!!! THIS WILL NEVER BE THE LAST WE SEE OF YOU!!!!!! WE NEED MORE KIRK!!!!!!!!! seriously, this helps so much and I paid attention to the whole video! that NEVER HAPPENED!!! MORE KIRK!!! MORE KIRK!!! MORE KIRK!!!! but much love still to Pete!!!!!!
We SERIOUSLY NEED MORE Davinci resolve tutorials!
AMEN
1 million YESSes
please yes
Please yes !!!!

A is a life saver
@@toddjal that makes sense too
thanks! I only notice a lot of errors when I try to bind these shortcuts to my key. Most of them saying the key is already bound to another shortcut.
@@unlockthepicture me too. I’m new so I don’t have a lot of experience but I think the other shortcuts for these keys are not used very often so I just disable them

Try some punctuation. You may actually like it.
@regal h exactly
Haha, yes!
These days his videos are just about promotions
@@StockAndFinish Total stream of consciousness. 😄

I love this 😂

Love seeing more creators using DaVinci Resolve!
Consider making this a recurring theme. I've been playing around with Davinci for a year now and the sheer amount of features is daunting. Videos like this are super helpful.
How’s it going so far?
THIS IS GOLD! WE MUST HAVE KIRK NEXT MONTH FOR ANOTHER DAVINCI VIDEO! This was actually so helpful! Amazing guys 🤩
WE NEED MORE!
Seriously, that swap technique and the blur background option on a single click, was epic!
Happy to see you and Pete are using Resolve and bringing more awareness to the program! You guys rock! Keep on making awesome videos!
I honestly never thought I would ever see a heavy hitter like PMK using Davinci Resolve like. He was such a purist Adobe fan boy lol. But ya I am happy that DVR is getting the attention it deserves.

this was gold. As someone who is considering starting to use DaVinci - I loved these simple tips. Incredible
There is no escape, Kirk.

This was legit helpful. Especially Blanking FIll and setting the frames for Dynamic Zoom.
Ikr. I literally used the “premier method” yesterday. Didn’t know about this feature till now
I've been using Davinci for a few years now, but these shortcuts are definitely an upgrade to my workflow. Thanks!
I've been using resolve for about 4 years! I love the software! Thanks for another great and inspiring video Pete!
Leaving a comment for Capt. Kirk. You crushed it dude. I need more of these. I am just starting out with true video editing and I learned more in this 9-minute video than so many 30-minute tutorials that just don't hit the important stuff like you did. Well done. More please 🤣

GOD DAMN, those shortcuts are GOD tier useful. As a DaVinci user, I'm ashamed of myself for not digging into that myself!

I've been so used to Lumetri in Premiere, that coming over to Davinci is a bit overwhelming. I would love to see tutorials on color correcting if you're looking to do more Davinci content!
Everybody has their own style of color grading. Now I am confused about where to learn color grading in Davinci. Can you give some suggestion, please?

Yes, casually dropping the first video at his new studio. It looks amazing.
You've given me more pro tips than every other "pro" tutorials. I'm an industry editor switching over, so I need this.
Kirk: Don't click like on this video!

Loving the Kirk videos 😂 you guys are a hilarious and awesome duo
What a great team! Always good info and positive attitudes. Totally dig this channel.
This was literally the most helpful yet shortest Video on Davinci Resolve tips i‘ve ever watched, HUGE thanks! And please, MORE!!!
Wow, why nobody comments on this sweet anamorphic lens they've shoot the video with? Pete, cmon man, tell us what is the brand and the focal length?
That and the new studio.

I clicked like because you told me not to😅
Man this feels like a guided meditation with the backround music but for DaVinci. We need more of that
This is brilliant. I don't even see any video of the "main guy". This asian guy has perfect style tuts. He has magic mix.
I'm always watching these kinds of things to help speed up my workflow in DaVinci and I gotta say mission accomplished here! That Ripple Delete is my new favorite!
LOVE the chemistry between both of you
I know why this is always gonna be my favorite channel 😍♥️
I think this may be the best video ever put on Peter's channel.
Been editing on Da Vinci Resolve for 12 years, it's good to see people finally recognizing what is the best color grading/editing system... even better than Avid Media Composer.
is it just me, or is the editing on this video extra juicy😮? keep it up Pete and Kirk, the chemistry and pacing in this video is sooooo amazing
This video was so helpful! Would love to have him on for another video!!! The remote grading is such a time saver!!!!!!!!!
we love you Kerk. You did great.
This guy is golddd I too asked him to show up again, and there he is, thanks Captain, please come again
The pre render thing just blew my mind im soooooo grateful
Love how Kirk is getting featured more in the videos. It just adds a brand new personality to the channel.
captain Kirk has an amazing podcast/radio voice... clear and bold... definitely gonna need more Davinci Resolve tutorials
Kirk's deadpan look is so good! Also, this was a highly practical how to on editing, even if that wasn't entirely the purpose of the video.
I'd watch this dude all day. I'm totally new to Divinci, this is mostly all still over my head, but I'll revisit in a few weeks I will thank you again.
The most easy to understand and follow tips'n'ticks video I've seen in a long time!
you will always be my favorite content creator love you pete ❤
great action, you guys acts so natural and doing the job every spontaneously at the same time....loved it...
Just started learning DaVinci this weekend-- these are all super help tips. Everyone of these helps clear up at least a minor annoyance I had.
Watching this almost a year later - so good!

Man! Your voice is weirdly soothing, and I’m loving it 😅
OMG. THE POWER BINGS. THE FIRST TIP. bangerrrrrr. had no idea. that is such a major thing.
Oh man gotta love Kirk. I'm just rewatching this again and seeing his comedy, amazing. But also the video is very very valuable and helpful
I’m starting on YT and have already downloaded and saw a couple of videos on YT, but this video is GOLD! Thank you Captain!
Hey, we SERIOUSLY need MORE videos with Kirk and his tutorials! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Need a lot more Kirk tutorials these were incredibly helpful and it's fun getting to see him on camera more often
Hats off to you, Kirk! Been using DaVinci for some years now and watched tons of tutorials. THIS one had more info than i`ve gotten in years watching other tutorials 😂

You two are pure comedy club.😂Love the chemistry 🫶
I don't know what I would do if Kurt wasn't back next month. I have been using Davinci Resolve for the past few month's and you have shown me at least 3 things that I didn't know.
Much appreciation.
First time i'm watching this channel really helpful, definately coming back and definately want to see him next time.
Uh.. of course Peter McKinnon has this video. I just switched to Resolve this week and haven't watched much PM recently but here we are back with Professor Pete making my life better.
One of the most useful DaVinci tutorials-thank you!!
YEAH waiting for your come back ... love this channel ...
Amazing tips, thank you so much! Also you were great on camera! 😊
Thank you for the tips. I'm gonna try these things for myself. Thank you Kirk. Can't wait for the next tutorial.

I did not know about remote grading. Thanks! Keep making these shorts!
These were actually some really helpful tips and ideas... some of them I hadn't seen in other Resolve tips videos so far!
This was such a great video! Really thankful for him and you Peter on making this video, hopefully we get more in the future.
This was next level. So calming and informative. Thank you
8 Million views later, this was the most epic Tutorial, solving so many problems 🫶
Kirk is amazing. Definitely looking forward to Pete putting him in front of the camera again.
