    A helpful review. Thank you.
    If requested, Conway Stewart will make one of these with a standard cartridge or converter with an unscrewing barrel. These are lighter, being 30g overall and 18g for barrel and nib. These weights suited me far more than the captive converter version. Adding, the captive converter has a brass sleeve, hence the additional weight. I preferred to have access so that I could change the converter in the future if need be.
    I had quite a discussion with Conway Stewart when I bought mine. They are exceptionally helpful and are able to do all sorts of minor changes as each one is made to order. Nice helpful people.
    Post Scriptum: I have now bought one of these and they look good, feel good, and write exceptionally well. The nib has a little more flexing than many and just a hint of feedback. No scratchiness at all. Nice writer!

    These pens have been my grail pens for a long time. I took the plunge a little while ago and bought a Churchill and was so bowled over by the quality of the workmanship and nib that I was blessed to be able to get two more! They are always close by and amongst the first I will go to write with. Thank you Michael for bringing them to people's attention. Carol.

    That’s a beauty! You have such a unique handwriting! Very pleasing to look at for reviews-you can really get a sense of how the pen writes. That sounds like a no brained but it isn’t! Some other reviewers have such terrible writing that you can’t tell what the nib is really capable of.

      Glad I could help! Best of luck - I am as sure as I can be that you'll love it. Of all the pens from Conway Stewart, I think the model 58, the Winston and the Wordsworth are my three favourites in terms of looks, and the weight of the Winston and Wordsworth make them superb (for me) for extended writing. However the 58 is best for me, since it's light to carry in my pocket, and really fast to refill. I hope you have many years of happy writing with your Winston!

    Excellent! Another superb pen and review Sir. Enjoyed it 😃👍🏻 Keep with the Premier video format as it is nice to have a chat in the comments whilst watching them.

    Beautiful pen. Excellent review. As I’ve begun using fountain pens again (had desks with inkwells in my elementary school years back in the 50s), I watch pen reviews on TH-cam. I was drawn to your reviews because of your clever vlog moniker. We have writing and photography in common. I am also a fan of historical fiction such as Oliver Potzsch’s Hangman’s Daughter mysteries. You’ll be pleased to know that I have just begun The Last Templar, and if my reading predilections continue, I’ll be going through the entire series. Cheers from an old man across the pond.

    Everything you said in the review I agree with. I love my Winston with its broad nib. I did find that I can unscrew the barrel and access the captured converter inside. I don’t know if this was standard or whether my pen was adapted, however, it makes filling easier than the small knurled nob on the end.

    • @writerlywitterings
      @writerlywitterings  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, Mark, and delighted to hear you're of the same opinion! To my embarrassment, I discovered that the barrel can be removed, too. But that was because I completely forgot that the pen had a captive convertor, and just twisted it without thinking. Luckily Conway Stewart were happen to refurbish it and mend my incompetence! I do find that little knurled nob an irritation, I admit. It's too small for my fingers!

    Oooh, that's beautiful, I love it. The Diamine Sepia is such a great ink, I love writing with it. I always like to use Sepia when I write notes on classic literature for uni...oh talking of which I need to run to the post office and I have a Roland Barthes book that's come in (more theory of lit). :)

    Thanks for all your useful reviews. Would you be able to make any comments on the Conway Vanwall. I’m thinking of buying one.

    • @writerlywitterings
      @writerlywitterings  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Vanwall is a limited edition Conway Stewart Winston. It has the same size and dimensions, and works in exactly the same way. If you look up Winston on my videos, you'll get the full review. The only difference lies in the limited edition numbering and engraving. From personal experience, the engraving and workmanship of all CS pens is superb. Hope that helps!

    Great looking pen with even better line variation on that nib!
    I have to get myself a decent calligraphy set or singular pen to try out stubs and/or italic nibs one of these days...
    I stick to fine or extra fine 9/10 times (the exception being a few medium Montblancs I use for headlines on notes and signing documents).
    Kaweco has a calligraphy set I might have to pick up seeing how I won't be attending any sort of pen show any time soon...

    • @writerlywitterings
      @writerlywitterings  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do have a Kaweco set of calligraphy nibs, but I have to admit, I find them pretty rough for my purposes. What I would recommend would be a TWSBI Go with a Stub. Very good value, reliable, and really fun to use.

    • @dutch_blades
      @dutch_blades 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@writerlywitterings Thanks for the recommendation; saved me some possible annoyance with the Kaweco set! I did see the Go in your Christmas video I believe, and the spring filling mechanism seemed pretty fun to use!
      On a sidenote; I posted a comment on one of your videos a while back in regards to the Homo Sapiens and it's nib sizes... Well... I caved and got me a Bronze Age Oversize in EF and I absolutely adore it :D

    Hi Michael, just a suggestion but since you have such great links to Conway Stewart I wonder if it’s possible to lobby them to make a very special pen. Captain Sir Tom Moore passed away overnight and I for one think it would be a fitting tribute if they were to manufacture a pen that recognises his magnificent contribution to your country and indeed the world. I’d buy one!

    • @writerlywitterings
      @writerlywitterings  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, Kellie - that's a very interesting idea. I'll mention it. There are risks to producing celebrations of people like him - some people may view it as merely trying to cash in on the man's memory. On the other hand, if they were to offer to support Tom Moore's charities, that may be different. I'll mention it. Thanks!

    • @kellieashman6908
      @kellieashman6908 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I see your point and I agree. How chuffed would I feel if a pen were to be produced though!

    That is a good Sepia, although Visconti Sepia is much darker. A difference of opinion, I suppose. I could claim you’re biased towards the Dartmoor acrylic, but I have to agree! It is beautiful. Currently my story ideas are filled with private investigators in zombie-infested dystopias, so I’m not sure that would work well for your next book. It makes for hilarious short stories so far.

      Hi, Michelle - and yes, I have a number of sepias, but much prefer the Diamine. I like the pastel nature, and the way it shades so well.

    Michael, Tell your friend to raise the money for the Churchill Bracket Green by any means, including selling a Jaguar convertible. Mine is from the Bespoke affiliation, I got it from a noted English collector who took the best care of it. It is the second longest pen in my collection, only marginally smaller than my Pilot Custom Urushi Vermilion, and narrower than the Pilot, but perhaps a mm girthier than my M1000. I treasure it so much that I don't use it nearly enough - it never leaves my desk to go out in the field. The problem with the Churchill for an American, is why buy any other English pen? I do own some Parker Maxima(e? s?) which I enjoy and want to take to my grave, but this is the quintessential English pen in my eyes. (I've never held an Onoto, so perhaps my experience is not quite up to your own.) As to the color/styling, what could be more proper than Bracket Green. (BTW, my Jags include BRG saloons, red XJS convertible and BRG coupe (Walkinshaw), and 420 Saloon as well as mere transportation models.)

      @writerlywitterings  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do agree. I have had my Churchill for twenty odd years now, and still love it. Such a classic look. However, I have to admit, the Winston beats it in my eye - I prefer the appearance and the extra weight. And then I always have the little model 58 in my pocket ... blasted pens. There are never enough hours in the day to use them as I'd like!
