    Yes indeed what a lovely pen. I ordered a Classic Green Winston with a broad nib. It too is glorious material. So classical. I placed my order shortly after your September TH-cam video and it was 41 days until in my hands. Well worth the wait for such a gorgeous pen. Ordered this one as a gift but did give it a test! Wow! Now I need to order one for myself. Thanks for your video.

      Totally agree! I really like the style and weight of these pens.

    Great video as always, really looking forward to that nib comparison!
    You're right that the Winston's capacity is identical to a cartridge-converter, because it actually is one (a so called captive converter that is permanently attached to the feed). This solution was necessary I suppose because of the big chunk of brass that is the inside of the Winston and also explains the weight.
    Cheers!

      Many thanks - I've never actually seen inside one, but I had the feeling that was the case!

    Thank you for the review Michael. I too adore the CS Winston, I have one of the original versions, made prior to Conway Stewart’s sad closure, in the Classic Brown finish. It has a medium 18k gold nib which writes beautifully; very smooth with just a whisper of pleasant feedback. The brass liner within the barrel gives the pen a real heft which I enjoy. As you rightly say, it gives the pen a feel of great quality. Mine has the barrel engraving too which I enjoy.
    I had a disaster with my example a few years ago. I went to use the pen to find the cap had broken in two between the two gold cap rings. I sent it off to the team at Bespoke British Pens and they created a brand new cap for me using new resin and clip but the original gold cap rings. The clip is almost identical and the resin matches perfectly. I was overjoyed to get the pen back in as new condition.
    The Dartmoor resin is lovely and very appealing but personally, I prefer the Classic Brown as it has just that bit more depth and chatoyance. But I do need to add a CS pen in Dartmoor to my collection in future. Thank you for sharing your application for modern Conway Stewart pens.

      Thanks, Steve, and especially for the story about Bespoke repairing your old CS. They're a really good firm to deal with ,from all I've heard and it's good to get that confirmed. After all, any company can make things and sell them. It's how they help people with problems that makes them stand out!

    Very nice Pen Mike, it looks a lovely classic style, sadly £400 cannot be justified at present but it’s nice to dream, a very good well informed presentation once more, hope you are feeling much better now, you do sound better

    The Winston is a gorgeous and unique pen. I wanted one forever but since the company went under a few years ago, they were hard to come by. So I had a custom pen maker Lotus make a couple of pens for me based on the Winston design. Lovely pens!!
    Still kicking myself for selling my one and only CS Belliver.

      I am sure British Bespoke Pens could have made you a Winston based on CS components they have and CS designs rather than a pure imitations

    • @writerlywitterings
      @writerlywitterings  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Better than that: Bespoke pens bought all the designs and rights to the Conway Stewart range. They are now Conway Stewart!

    • @writerlywitterings
      @writerlywitterings  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The company did fold, but their patents and designs were all bought up by Bespoke. Bespoke are continuing the genuine Conway Stewart designs - they're still making the Belliver and Winston.

    • @penarbor
      @penarbor 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@writerlywitterings I checked them out but the Belliver is available only in one material. I hope they make more in other materials too.
      About the Winston, I'm still on the fence. That gimmicky faux-piston filling system was unnecessary. If my one year old gets his hands on that small blind cap, he's gonna pop it in his mouth!!

    I enjoyed your review and appreciate the fine quality of the Conway Stewart pens. Alas, they are too costly for my wallet. I have not yet spent more than $400 on a pen, although my Parker Duofold Centennial and my Pelikan M805 have come close. My wife doesn’t understand the necessity for my dozen fine pens and an equal number of less expensive pens. You handwriting is much better than mine and I’d say fancier. Should my letter make it to you you’ll agree. As another viewer already said, you do sound much better. I hope you and your wife stay healthy. Cheers.

      Many thanks, William. I have a huge and growing backlog of letters just now, but I will get round to answering them as soon as possible! Hmm. I tried an M805, but could not get on with the nib. I found it really hard (it was an EF) and it felt like scratching across the paper with a nail! One day I'll have to try a different type of nib and see whether it was just the EF I didn't like.

      @@writerlywitterings mine is a medium and writes quite smoothly. BTW, I’ve been poring over the CS website and am taken by the Commander (being a Navy vet myself). I appreciate the detail and craftsmanship of all their line. Wish my pockets were bigger.

    very interested in the series 58 sac filler: do you have this pen?; know they do custom grinds: would like Japanese extra fine, is that likely to be possible?(have small handwriting, European extra fine unlikely to be fine enough for me)

    • @writerlywitterings
      @writerlywitterings  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do have a #58 lever fill, and yes, they do custom grinds. I have to admit, for me the most important nibs are the bigger ,wet types, but CS are incredibly helpful and have their own nib expert. If you get in touch with them, they'll be really happy to discuss what you need, and I haven't heard of anyone who wasn't pleased with the results! I'd call them, or write, and see what they say. Don't forget you can get a discount if you mention me when you call them. Details in the description of the video.

    Is it hard to clean ?

    • @writerlywitterings
      @writerlywitterings  ปีที่แล้ว

      No, I tend to flush mine after every fill, and it takes a couple of fills and empties. Pretty much the same as using a standard cartridge convertor - which I think is what is inside the pen!
