    Lovingly described by a lover of fountain pens. Sometimes the new outdistances the old.

    Inspiring and entertaining as ever. As an American, I am impressed how the English excel in the decorative arts. Objects are well constructed and exhibit such balance of elegance and restraint - refinement!

    I agree regarding the pocket clips. I have two 58s as in the company’s first reincarnation they were the only model with the diamond clip. One is a casein Yellow Tiffany ballpoint. I had the Blue Tiffany in fountain, but was terrified of getting ink onto the barrel as it would absorb and stain. The 58 fountain pen I haven’t moved on is the Patriot. Thanks for the reviews.

    • @writerlywitterings
      @writerlywitterings  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've always wanted to try a casein model - it's supposed to be very warm, I understand? But the fear of staining would always be there!

    Thank you for the wonderful review! 'I am an Optimist' appears to be a really well designed, and solid pen. The pen is very British in several ways, harking back to a time when solidly built English products were desirable objects in many parts of the world. I only wish that the price of the pen was more affordable than what it is. Overall it is a wonderful fountain pen that really conveys some of the endearing aspects of England (which still enjoy a wider and international following).

    Hi Michael, I pulled the trigger on that Churchill I asked you about. Now I just have to hold out until my 50th birthday in June next year before I can use it. And yes, I was a little disappointed that my pen didn’t have the CS engraved name on it as I thought all Conway Stewart’s still did. All the best to you.

    • @writerlywitterings
      @writerlywitterings  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kellie, if you write to Alastair Adams at Conway Stewart, I'll bet he would be happy to add that engraving for you - and he might even add "50" for you too! It's worth asking - they're generally very helpful.

    That is a stunning pen. The barrels on them look identical except for the brass in the new model so you should ask if they could put a brass insert in your old one to get that weight you like.

    • @writerlywitterings
      @writerlywitterings  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did wonder, but the barrel of my old one is much thicker, so they would have to drill it out in order to make space for the weight. And then it would be rather top heavy, without the brass section too, so I don't know it would be possible without wrecking my original. To be honest, I'm more likely to use one of my other pens than the Churchill now - until I can afford another one!

    Nice pen. However, I’ve always preferred the CS Winston over the Churchill because it was significantly heavier. Must go and put ink in it and write a letter or two.

    • @writerlywitterings
      @writerlywitterings  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I love the Winston for that same reason - but I much prefer the cartridge converter filling system compared with the captive converter - turning that little knob is a little fiddly for my fingers.

    Lovely pen for sure!
    Still haven't bought a
    Conway Stewart; this might be the one if I can get a somewhat good price on one!
    Buying a house and furniture is expensive, so I have to take it a bit slow for now :p

    Haha! Personal taste indeed. I was just about to comment that it looked like a Parker from the 1920's but with a (in my opinion) nicer clip and you whipped out a Parker with a (in your opinion) nicer clip.

    I appreciate all of the pens in the Churchill series, but I am holding out until I can purchase the Red Poppy Pen. This may take a while as they are not in production currently. Cheers

    • @writerlywitterings
      @writerlywitterings  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It may do - but it's worth asking. They are very good at adding bespoke tweaks, so if they have a spare poppy top you might be able to get one made to your specification.

    Beautiful pens! How does their girthiness compare to the Montblanc 149 or Pelikan M1000?

    Is the pen that shape to mimic the shape of Churchill’s signature cigar?

    • @writerlywitterings
      @writerlywitterings  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think so. It's sort of a deliberate return to some of the shapes from the early twentieth century, but with strong echoes of Churchill and his cigars. It is quite a hefty pen, I have to say. But glorious with the new CS nibs.

    • @sunnycharacter
      @sunnycharacter 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@writerlywitterings Well, a hefty pen for a hefty man makes sense! Not you, I mean Churchill! I’m sure his hands were quite imposing. Can you imagine him trying to wrangle a Pilot Petit? 😂

    Look good. i wish i gone with a Conway Stewart or a Visconti. instead of my pelikan M800. saying mild it was a real disappointment getting that one. first of the cap threads did not match with the pen so you could not get to go on properly, even then tight. it still felt like if was going to fall of and was sitting loose.. and the nib wow was that bad. felt like you was writing on Sandpaper. and the end of the pen did not line up to main part of the barrel. there was about 1mm step down. my TWISY diamond like 1000 time better in build and quality.. So i contacted Pelikan service, they wanted me to send the pen to the factory, so they could look at it.. they have had it for 1 month now. and i have heard nothing.. at this point im just hoping go get a response back or my pen back. No need to say that is last time i ever buy a Pelikan pen. there quality is just BAD....

    • @writerlywitterings
      @writerlywitterings  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's really sad to hear. All I would say is, no matter which company, there is always potential for a less well built pen to get out. I know Pelikan have a fabulous reputation for their quality, as do Montblanc - and yet I have met lots of people who have had dreadful experiences with both. I suppose even the best people have bad days!

    • @writerlywitterings
