  • Hi! I've had a few friends ask me how I make crochet dishcloths so I created this easy-to-follow video to share with them. I thought I would share it with you too! Even if you've never crocheted before I think you'll be able to follow along just fine. The pattern is written out below. Let me know if you have any questions or comments. Thanks!!! ~Cindy

    My Favorite Crochet Cotton Dishcloth
    Materials Needed:
    Worsted weight cotton yarn (1 ball of yarn will yield several dishcloths)
    Size H/8 (5.00 mm) crochet hook
    Darning needle
    Chain 29 stitches.
    Row 1: Single Crochet (SC) in 2nd chain stitch from hook, and in each chain across. At end of the row, Chain 1 stitch, and turn. (Should have 28 stitches).
    Row 2: SC in the back loop of the 1st stitch. Then SC in the front loop of the next stitch. Continue stitching across the row alternating between the back loop and the front loop. At the end of the row, Chain 1 stitch, and turn.
    Repeat Row 2 for approximately 18 rows, or until the dishcloth is square. Remember that you can fold the fabric diagonally to see if it is square.
    Last Row: When the fabric is the length you want, SC in every stitch (going through both loops of the previous rows of SC.
    Cut the yarn leaving a 6” tail and either pull the tail through the loop on your hook OR enlarge the loop on your hook and pull the ball of yarn through it. Either way will lock in your stitches.
    Thread the darning needle with the ending tail and weave through a few stitches to stabilize the tail. Then repeat for the beginning tail. Trim the ends.
    These cotton dishcloths can be tossed into the washer and dryer with your regular towels. They will shrink a little but will serve you well for a long time.
    I hope you enjoy making these and hopefully you can share some with others. Be blessed friends!!!

    You are a good teacher. Thank you. I’ve gotten discouraged in the past in making my side edges straight. You have shown me what I was doing wrong. I’m so happy. I am self taught. I can’t make sense of patterns so I take things apart and see if I can figure it out. However getting the outside edges straight has been very difficult. Thank so much for your clear directions. You might consider pulling the yarn from the center. Pulling from the side as you are causes the strands or plys to unwind. That is what causes the thin parts of the yarn. Hope it is ok to say this. Been crocheting and knitting for 60 years. Learned this in a class .

    • @CindyJohnson
      @CindyJohnson  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you for sharing! Yes, that is the better way, but sometimes it is tricky to find the end that pulls from the center. So I try to just make it work either way. Enjoy crocheting!!! Blessings!!! ❤️

    • @CindyJohnson
      @CindyJohnson  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi!! Thank you so much! I make wash cloths in the exact same way. I usually start with 39 chain stitches instead of 29 so that the wash cloth is a tad bit bigger, but you can make them whatever size you want. Also, I often will use softer yarn. I have used bamboo in the past and was very pleased. Of course, the cotton yarn is great too if it feels soft enough for you. Thanks again for watching and commenting!!! Thank you for sharing ! I have seen dishcloths made with heavier yarn. What is that ? And what is polyester yarn ? Can it be used for dishcloths ? Next one I make will be with more chain stitches, as my Husband is main dishwasher in our house and he prefers them larger. He's from Texas, what can I say...

    • @CindyJohnson
      @CindyJohnson  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I love your comment! Thank you for your kind words!!! Hmmm heavier yarn....I guess just a chunkier yarn was used. I personally use cotton yarn, but I suppose you could use polyester yarn. Dishcloths we purchase from the stores are not always cotton so I don't think it would cause any issues. If you make some, let me know how it goes. And yes, you can chain more stitches on your foundation row and make it any size you want. And then use the triangle folding trick to get it square, if desired. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!!! Blessings!!!

    Got to a dollar store buy a cheap plastic liquid container for drinks With a lid that has a hole for pouring. U can use that for your yarn depending on the size of yarn u thread the yarn thru the hole snap on the top it helps keep the yarn and moves it freely while u chrochet

    • @CindyJohnson
      @CindyJohnson  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! No worries! I am sure your first dishcloth is great. Sometimes when we are learning to crochet we might accidentally pick up stitches here and there. One thing I recommend is counting your stitches across the rows as you go (just for a few rows) so you can get a good idea of where the next stitches go so you don’t accidentally increase or decrease the number of stitches each row should have. That may help you. If not, let me know and I’ll help you troubleshoot some more. Thank you so much for watching and commenting!!! Blessings to you!!! ❤️

    Ok, I finally got the chain stitch right. I seem to be having a bit of a problem with the next step. I got a bit of a “ball”happening at the beginning of the first official crochet line, and then ended up with four loops on my hook, but decided to soldier on. At some point, I seem to have started going backwards, and now my first line has a cowboy boot shape, with a fun little … hive… happening in the corner. Should I persevere, or start again? I’ve invested a lot of time ….

    • @duskbloom

      Update, I have finished the first row. It only has 18 stitches, and I somehow have the letter T in the middle of the thin end of my row, it also twisted upside down half way, so it’s three dimensional now.
