I just found you and your tutorials, been learning from you all December and I didn’t know you had passed. I’m so glad that your videos are here for us to learn from. Your legacy. Thank you so much.
I always find myself coming back to Melanie videos when searching for patterns. You will continue to be the best out there. Rest in peace lovely lady. 💜
Your teaching lives on. I am learning to make my very first washcloth with you. What you've left behind is making my life a bit more rewarding, a bit better. Thank you.
It's amazing that anyone asked about how many stitches to make. She said "9 inches" for her project. Just make a chain until it reaches 9 inches, if you want yours to be the same size. Just count each stitch as you go until you reach the desired length. As for the hook size, that 100% depends on the yarn you buy. Not all information can go into one video without it being painfully long. Do your due diligence and try a little research on those basics. Maybe check to see if she has videos about those things. It's totally on you to answer ALL your own questions. I'm a beginner, too, but I already looked up those basic questions myself. I'm grateful her videos are still going because she seems pretty knowledgeable. I'm sorry to see she had passed away.❤
Thank you for leaving her videos up. Melanie was such a joy and taught me so much in my crochet journey. I am grateful for her and to her. She is greatly missed❤

Thank you, my first unguided dishcloth kept getting thinner and thinner, your stitch and advice helped me maintain the width without having to count!! Thank you so much!

Nicole Howell I might have agreed with you if this wasn’t being referred to as a beginner’s tutorial. When people are starting out, they want and need more detailed instructions. Once they become more proficient, they can ‘think just a little’ for themselves. I didn’t see any rude or complaining questions nor did anyone ask her to ‘learn it’ for them. Give these people a break and some leeway when they are starting out.
Uh oh…that was going to be my question…..I just looked on internet for the best hook size for this 🧶 and didn’t ask. I’m glad I saw your comment before posting❤️

Oh Melanie, what a great teacher! You were so talented and I am so grateful I found your channel. Thank you Robert. I do other needlework but never could get the hang of crocheting! Now I do. Can’t thank you enough ❤
This is probably the best tutorial video that I have seen on here has everything else is complicated stitching and this is an easy stitch, I am not intimidated and have to do a hold of a bunch of different steps… I can’t wait to make this some of these for my mother for Mother’s Day
Thank you for this! I have been crocheting off and on for a long time, but always had problems with keeping the edges straight. You explained this so well that it made it easy for me. My edges look so nice and even on this dishcloth! WooYoo!
Mine came out in a circle 😂 don’t know what I did wrong haha, I’m relearning how to crochet after about 10 ish years though, so I’m basically a beginner again! This is a lovely tutorial, I gotta keep practicing lol. I’m just gonna use it as a reusable cotton pad, thank you for posting this! ✨
Here's a slightly easier way to make what she made. Chain an odd number of chains. On next row put a single crochet in the 2nd chain then double in the next (keep alternating to the end) and the last stich will be a double. Chain 1 and turn then do the exact same. First stich will always be a single and the last one is always a double. It makes perfect dishcloth texture. It will look just like the one Melanie made here.
Haha this was too complex for me. I'm going to make a couple with single stitches and work my way up lol. 🤣 You make great tutorials! You are very good at explaining all the details!!
If anyone has the system you can put all of these on your big screen television. That’s what I do especially when I am struggling to see exactly where I need to place the hook etc … having the option to use the 📺 is much better/easier to control the video as well because you can use your 📺 remote to stop/start the tutorials. It’s great! The option to do this should be on your device that you are using. Good luck.
My mom always made these for me but she passed, 10/31/2013. I looked for a beginner video and found this one. I learned she also passed. I'm saving this idea so I can get the supplies to make these washclothes.
It is a very easy pattern for a beginner, and it keeps the edges neat. Do not worry if you have to do it a few times. Cotton yarn can very much and can be sticky at times. A metal hook is always better.

What a beautiful washcloth, Melanie. You are the definition of amazing and inspiring, and your voice is über adorable. What did you enjoy about making the washcloth?
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I'm thinking of making some for a friend of mine who's going through some medical testing... wash cloths and with a thicker yarn, a couple of (smaller) pot holders.
Hi Melanie,I am a knitter loved doing Aran Sweaters but Parkinson’s hit me and cannot hold the needles or the work to heavy. I invested in crochet materials, followed this tutorial and made this wash cloth and was proud of myself. It took time but I managed it and if I say so myself very good lol! I ordered some Lily Sugar and Cream. I bought 100% Cotton for face washers but see some yarns that are cotton/acrylic what would you use these for? Also should one ball of the Lily be enough for a face washer? I have a lovely Aqua ball but don’t want to start and bot finish it?
Hi, Barbara! I just found her tutorial and in reading the comments, learned she passed away from cancer over a year ago. I know my reply is a year later than your comment so im hoping you found your answer. If not, then yes, the 100% cotton will work wonderfully! You can also use the blends. Some people use the blended yarn for baby items.
Is there any reason we shouldn’t tie a knot again after we weave the tail in? I tend to weave the tail in both directions like you do, then I tie a simple knot, then I weave for a little bit again, then I cut the yarn. Is that ok? Or is there a reason I don’t really see anyone tying again but only weaving? Also, I am a beginner and was given some donated yarn. I think some of it is cotton but the paper around the yarn is gone. Is there any way we can tell what kind of yarn we have when the paper wrapper is gone? The skein I have looks like cotton thread that’s been twisted, then three threads were again twisted together giving it a weaved look! It’s so beautiful! But I want to use it very wisely. I was also given some wool yarn and have a feeling some other skeins might be wool too. How can I know? It was so wonderful to inherit this yarn but I’m very worried that I won’t know the care and washing unless I know what the yarn is. And in case you are wondering, there is not way to ask the person it came from because it was a donation. Thank you for any help you can give me in this. Gorgeous stitch! I can’t WAIT to get going on this project once I know what my yarn is. 👍🏼

I have these two basic stitches down which are very simple but did have trouble with this pattern. I am new to crocheting and have watched several tutorials. This is the easiest I’ve come across. Some of you should keep your rude comments to yourself and keep practicing to figure out why you are having trouble as I did instead of blaming your failure on someone else who clearly explains everything in her video. I did and and now I have made my first beautiful washcloth because of this precious woman’s videos who we are lucky are still posted on TH-cam for us to keep learning from.😇🪽
It's 2:30 Houston Texas time and I'm confused I want to know when I am in single do I change one when I and in double do I change to I keep rewinding it but I'm having trouble
Love the pattern here! It really does look more complicated than it is, in my opinion. I am a fast learner, though, with young eyes and mind so I can catch things a bit easier. I think I can figure out how to make the dishcloth from this video, but I'm guessing on a few spots (trial and error to come) that I feel may stump others completely. Please understand my appreciation for your lesson and take these next suggestions just as that: suggestions. Thanks for the video, I'll be checking out some of your others as I learn more in life. When you say "I like to go underneath two strands ..." when first starting to knit after the foundation chain... Does this mean it's necessary or just what you prefer? Could this be done differently? While knitting on the foundation chain it doesn't look as easy to grab two strands, but while knitting remaining rows it's much easier to do so. But is it *necessary* to do so or just what "you like" to do? Also, it's not very clear to see how you're doing it.. While knitting the first row onto the foundation chain it's not quite easy to spot where to put the hook for the next stitch, especially for a first time crocheter whose project may be a little less neat. Maybe a little clearer with the explanation and/or repeating more stitches more clearly on camera..? Why do you chain one after the first knit row then chain two after the second knit row? More specifically... Do we continue to increase chains after each row? No? So do we continue to chain one and two alternating rows? Or do we continue to chain one per row or two per row? As I said, I'll be trying different methods on my own to figure out exactly what to do, but beginners do need specifications.. Thanks again for the lesson!
i kind of had a stupid question, I have seen a lot of people go through 2 loops when going into a chain but then a lot of people also go through one.. does it really matter? or which one is preffered?

You keep saying knitting but we are crocheting here
i kind of had a stupid question, I have seen a lot of people go through 2 loops when going into a chain but then a lot of people also go through one.. does it really matter? or which one is preffered?
What size hook are you using? You only said it was a clover hook. Thank you.
It is 2:30 in Houston Texas and I want to know what size needle are you
What size hook did you use please? X
