I think giving a minor resistance to fire type moves and decreasing burn chance would be suitable. I also like the idea of abilities having more interactions with weather, terrain, and status conditions, so giving it a drawback of being more susceptible to electric moves and paralysis gives it an interesting drawback (type immunities notwithstanding)

I think giving Dusclops something besides Frisk would be good, like *give it a special attack lowering version of Intimidate, since I want a special attack lowering version of Intimidate*
Just want to note that Illuminate got massively buffed with the SV DLC. It now blocks lowering accuracy effects (by stat stages) and can ignore evasion increases. With this has no use in smogon formats since evasion moves are banned and accuracy lowering moves are extremely rare, it is a semidecent ability for a more offensive Pokemon like Starmie.
Base Samurott getting Shell Armor instead of Sharpness or Intimidade is INSANE, like just read its pokedex entries 😭 And then it doesn't even learn Shell Smash ☠️ I swear its like the balance team just wants to make SURE it stays bad cuz there's no way they unironically thought that was gonna help it...
The problem is its Hisuian Form (an already good mon) would also get it if they give Samurott shell smash since both forms have nearly identical movesets. I think giving it Anger Shell is the best way to directly buff Samurott w/o affecting its Ancient counterpart
shell smash is lame af. I saw someone say it should get no retreat and imo thats way more interesting. Totally agree with sharpness tho, it just feels like they forgot to give it to samurott
Durant using entrainment to copy truant onto an opposing pokemon is actually one of the best singles strategies in the post-game battle subway/maison/tree in generations 5-7, because the AI will seldom switch out even after getting the ability truant, so after doing that you can switch into something like dragon dance/shell smash + protect + substitute Dragonite, Mega Gyarados, Cloyster, etc to sweep your opponent's team with no trouble. It may have no use in actual battles with real people, but vs the in-game AI, it's not too shabby.
I find it funny that giving Durant TRUANT ended up legitimately useful in niche cases, moreso than what they actually ended up giving to poor Meganium.
Honestly damp would be better if it takes less damage from fire moves and being immune to burn. Explosion is used as a niche compared to earlier generations that it just catches you off guard
Or a 15% boost to Water type moves instead of the fire reduction. The only 2 Pokemon with Damp that don't resist fire already are Tadbulb and Bellibolt.
16:01 Vespiquen is actually indirectly the most impactful pokemon in ND Hackmons because Heal Order is the only 1 turn healing move with 16 pp so people dont have to use ass strength sap anymore. Part of the reason that ND Hackmons was way more popular than SV Hackmons when they were ran at the same time was because we could actually use real healing moves so team building wasn't so constricted.
Unovian Sammurot getting shell armor was the biggest robbery that happened in broad daylight. Compared to what the other 2 starters got Sammurot could have gotten adaptability or even regenorator to make the playing field even.
@Blackheartgamer1 my logic was that since it is based on a warrior, he would adapt to his surroundings, thus adaptability (protean or libero is probably better come to think of it). Regenerators' idea is that he heals off the damage that he took in battle and comes back out to fight again. So basically, from a warriors perspective.
Another fun fact about Snow Cloak Articuno: since legendaries available in the Ranamas Park will always have the hidden ability if possible, Articuno ended a good period of time in the BDSP meta banned to Ubers, since it didn't had Pressure at BDSP until the game could be connected with Pokémon Home.
Cursed Body would make a decent ability for Noir family. It's a slow bulky mon so it can use some utility. Or a new ability called Soul Sap allowing it to drain the target's HP with each contact move. Noir is the Reaper pokemon, give it some soul or HP based stuff
I would like to mention 2 pokémon: Cute Charm Milotic and and Moxie Pyroar. Cute Charm is okey-ish and fits Milotic's lore, but very rng dependent. Pyroar's base 68 Atk (lower than Sunflora's base atk) is very weak even after moxie boosts, Pyroar is ment to be a special attacker anyway.
Yeah, instead they get done dirty in basically every way even though in my opinion I don’t hate their designs despite that being one of the ways they were done dirty in.
@@THGMR-ox7sd i think they are overcompensating for going far too crazy with the lore. they made effectively the controller of time, space and pokemon god lol
I really don't think people understand how big of a buff an automatic trick room setter, especially one with decent stats and supporting moves, is to Calyrex-Ice. It would single-handedly have to either never be in a regional dex with Dialga, or we can never have double restricted ever again.
Honestly somewhat agree and disagree with Articuno here. Snow Cloak and Sand Veil are busted and uncompetitive abilities and is by far the best of Static/Flamebody. Its also why Articuno was chosen over other special attacking Ice types for that VGC strategy. VGC players could have picked Pokemon like Lapras or Iron Bundle for a similar strategy, but picked Articuno because evasion is busted. But at the same time, because Snow Cloak is busted it’s banned, which means its technically useless on Articuno. Also evasion is degenerate and hopefully Articuno gets something like Frostbite Flamebody but with Special Attacks.
Legalize snow cloak and sand veil and lets see what their win rate is, or I should say their usage rate, because no player on high ladder will touch those abilities, because at the end of the day, they are not good. If you legalized light clay, it's usage rate would also be zero. Yes, all of these things are uncompetitive, in the same way that my middle school soccer team would be uncompetitive at the world cup.
@@CptChrispy Cacturne and Gligar were both being used in gen 3 tournaments, and on the OU ladder, before they banned Sand Veil in gen 3. This wasn't just some cheese strat used by bad players, people like ABR and SoulWind were using Sand Veil mons in tournaments. It comes down to the fact that, while yes you can prepare your team to counter evasion strats, it makes you worse against literally every other team.
@@MishKoz They were being used because those pokemon had merits on their own, and sand veil was either actually or effectively their only option. In modern Pokemon, there is no effective sand veil/snow cloak/light clay strategy. If you legalized all of those in modern pokemon, even low ladder players would know better than to even try to use any of those, because they all suck.
17:04 an alternative to Queenly Majesty - ‘Royal We’ could be cool and thematic and work as like, a built in beat up in that the move is based on the other party members’ attack (and how many are still alive), but for every attacking move (so it would probably be reworked to be a bit less potent for the ability, but honestly, Vespiquen deserves it to stay as potent as beat up is, but for every move she can use)
Still waiting for the Arcanine remake but pleasantly surprised to see more videos like this. They are one of my favorite types since they explore things that aren't always talked about.
Hear me out: Swampert with Regenerator. Its design is a mix of a Mud Skipper and Axolotl, and Axolotls are known for their ability to _regenerate_ body parts, it just makes sense. Swampert already has Flip Turn and Stealth Rock, so it can be used to set up for its team, swap out, and come back in Biased, but I love my boy, give him the world
Funny how you mention Dusknoir should get a soul stealing ability. In the Romhack, Energized Emerald, Dusknoir gets given an ability that steals HP from the opponent and heals itself with it.
That was just unnecessarily cruel of Game Freak, giving Swampert the anti-Explosion ability _at the same time_ they nerfed Explosion into the dirt. Also, I want to point out that Truant has been legitimately useful on Durant in the in-game battle facilities, alongside Entrainment. Granted, that's just bullying the game's dumb-as-bricks AI, but enabling Moody sweeps left and right is pretty dastardly on its own.
every gen with the exception of gen 2 and possibly 1 are still evolving and experiencing tier shifts. look at arceus in gen 4 that got banned from ubers, unbanned and banned again just a few years ago
I think Durant gets Truant because in an anthill 20% of ants are always asleep or something, so the Truant Durants are meant to resemble this small portion that is resting

Terra to remove flying weaknesses and bolster blizzard, added defense from snow, and u have a tricky mon. Glaceon is similar as well, being decently tanky with assault vest sets
Durant has the hidden ability truant instead of hustle because 50% of ants in a colony only pretend to work and appear busy while the other 50 do all the work
Hydration makes sense for Swampert a bit more than Stamina, making it harder to get status to stick on it and giving it something t0 seperate it from the other Water/Grounds
@walaceandrade4046 Mega Swampert's intended game plan is a fast physical rain sweeper. Will o Wisp ruins that. Hydration allows Swampert to switch in on status without worry and it can stall its mega evolution if the player predicts the opponent going for a burn.
@@PhazonSpear its a nice use of a pre-mega abilty, gotta give you that... But in a world where mega evos are no longer a thing in competitive... Base Swampert deserves an ability that allows him to shine on its own.
If Dusknoir had an ability that acted like a built in Shell Bell where it regained HP if it landed a contact move, that would be fun way to keep it as an offensive Pokemon that could make use of its low HP stat.
Since Zapdos and Moltres have hidden abilities that involve making contact with them, it would have been interesting to see Articuno gain an equivalent that has a chance to inflict frostbite from PLA. It would fit nicely with Articuno’s great special bulk
8:13 No, Trick Room would almost assuredly be overpowered and broken. The thing to remember is that gamefreak does its balancing around doubles VGC, not singles. So Trick Room being able to be set up just by switching... well that's beyond broken in the context of doubles, since we saw a small glimpse of that in Sword/Shield with Copycat Max Guard shenanigans
I really wish articuno gave us the last contact status ability. Static paralyses on contact, flame body burns, poison point poisons and effect spore sleeps. I propose articuno should've been given a unique ability "Frostbite" which on contact has a 10% chance to freeze matching the other Elemental birds Edit: someone beat me to it 15 hours earlier lmao, same name and everything 😅
Truant + Entrainment durant was amazing at cheezing the battle subway back in the day lol. give ur opponent truant, then switch into something with protect + a setup move... and then sweep... usually dragon dance dragonite w/ multiscale..
one thing that helps snow cloak articuno now, and what allowed it the tournament win, was the change from hail to snow going into sv and snow now does for the def of ice types what sand does for the spdef of rock/ground/steel, which translates into articuno being able to take more hits from the physical side in the snow which actually does pair well with snow cloak since now there's a more defensive backbone to the strat.
Hate to be that guy but I will be. Damp Swampert was a good anti lead option into lead Lando with explosion. They would get no momentum off the explosion.
The idea of giving Dialga and Palkia trick room and gravity abilities is such a great idea. That entire section is well thought out and very clever. Also the script for Vespiquen is top notch, highly enjoyed the clever word play
The best thing outside of this change for Vespiquen would be to just make it mono-bug. Only having x2 weaknesses and a filter/solid rock clone would make it a unique defensive choice. However, loving that FSG has been learning his zoomer slang on skibiki, very demure etc
I thought Durant having truant was because it's their Dream to be lazy but they can't because the colony. I think that's the original goal of "dream abilities".
Articuno: Magic Guard. Snow Warning. Magic Bounce. Serene Grace. Dialga: Kinda helped by Telepathy because friendly Earthquakes hurt and I guess not risking a Lava Plume burn or Discharge parz helps too, but it's useless in single formats. If I had to make a suggestion though, Regenerator. Palkia: No Guard. Swampert: Sheer Force. Guts. Rain Dish. Sand Rush. Durant: Heatproof. It could have explained it as adapting to Heatmor by growing metalic armor, which Heatmor pressumably adapted to in turn by becoming Fire type, and it becoming a heat resistant alloy exoskeleton in response. Dusknoir: Perish Body. Cursed Body. Shadow Tag. Tyranitar: Stamina. Stakeout. Solid Rock. Rock Head. Sand Rush. Vespiquen is just bad. I can't think of any reasonable ability that would meaningfully save it.
I would just make it a semi- kalos aura abilities clone. 30% power boost to water type attacks while active. The list of damp users are either pretty weak anyhow or have other abilites that are still better (like politoed) so i dont see what would be wrong with this.
Since we covered Swampert, I was wondering if we could also cover Sceptile alongside. I believe that Technician over the pointless Unburden would be a great Ability to give it or something that could be even better could work as well.
Dusknoir really just needs a Mega evolution. Frisk would be a perfectly synergistic base ability for a Mega because you really only need it on switch in. I do like that Durant gets Hone Claws to make up for the Hustle Boost and Entraining Hustle to an opponent can still be potentially obnoxious on the right Pokemon. Durant even gets access to moves like Thunder Wave and Beat Up in gen 8, so it can pull off some really nice support ontop of hitting pretty hard
I will never understand why not a single bulky ghost type has cursed body. Maybe if would be too strong in singles if the poke in question has recover but none of them do. Its a perfect fit for noir.
An idea for some of these abilities or some new ones: To buff Damp, have it work like Water Bubble, preventing burns and/or halving fire damage For Dialga, have an ability that can set up either Trick/Wonder/Magic Room for 5 turns, but if it’s a mix of all of them, 3-4 turns. Palkia, have an ability to set up Gravity and removes terrain sets and hazards, prevents new terrains/hazards for 3-4 turns. For Vespiquen, a mix of Queenly Majesty and Solid Rock, call it Queen’s Presence.
@SpiritualAura96 This ideia is realy great. Added effects to already existing abilities is a way to buff several Pokémon without the need to big changes. Game Freak kinda aldready did this but only with new Pokémon like Garganacl, for exemple (Purifing Salt is Leaf guard, but it works and has a Ghost Type resistance bonus). And Radical Red did some Interesting changes like Ice body working just like Flame Body (and frostbite works like legeds Arceos). However, about Dialga, sorry to cut you but trick room ability is a no go. Unless game freak create something like a 'rapid spin' that removes the room moves. Palkia: Remove hazards ability is overpower, might be okay, but preventing New hazards not so much. Vespiqueen: Well... sure. This pokémon could get Wonder Guard and still be mediocre. 🤷♂
I actually fuckin love the gen z slang in this video “no matter how slay…” and “royal CEO of serving” absolutely sent me, also “crime against feminism was fuckin hilarious
you should make video about iron fist and how it is absolutely unacceptable that it only boosts punching moves by 20% while though claws boost all contact moves by 30% which also includes all punching moves as they all make contact
So Articuno is actually my favorite pokemon and I have thought long an hard about what would make it viable. And the best ability I can think of is Magic Guard. Its already a very mystical pokemon and this would remove its stealth rock weakness and allow for recoil-less life orb damage, making it about as strong as the other two birds should it choose. It wouldn't become amazing given it's other issues, but certainly viable in the higher tiers with this one change.
Same, he's been my top favorite since Red version. I would say giving him Snow Warning and adding Aurora Veil to his move pool would greatly improve him, in singles and doubles format. Mind Reader + Sheer Cold was a fun gimmick against enemy ai, but got boring fast. Articuno could also use some fiddling with his stats. Take some points from attack and put it towards hp, def, spa or something
Personally, I've always thought the Legendary Bird trio should have all gotten weather setting abilities in reference to their roles in the second movie where they were basically doing the whole Groudon/Kyogre rivalry thing before those Pokémon even existed. Likewise, with Lugia getting Air Lock to mimic its role of putting an end to the fight.
I think a good ability they could give dialga would effectively be power herb the ability. except it activates more than once and also works on ally pokemon. palkia setting up gravity would be less op, but I think a one way no guard like ability with a mold-breaker effect could be good
Swampert and it's Damp-abiility is easily one of if not the biggest dud of a hidden ability amongst starters, if only he could at least have Mega Swampert's Swift Swim as the hidden ability things would be way different - perhaps another solid ability for Swampert could be like a healing ability like *_Water Absorb / Earth Eater / Regenerator_*
Honorable mention goes to Azumarill and his dream world ability Sap Sipper. I want one good reason as to why one would realistically run Sap Sipper over Huge Power on Azumarill

Yeah it really should’ve gotten a HA update in Gen 9. Empoleon got it’s changed from Defiant to Competitive so there’s precedent for it too
The problem is its Hisuian Form (an already good mon) would also get it if they give Samurott shell smash since both forms have nearly identical movesets.
Swampert getting Damp one generation too late is just Game Freak trolling.
Damp should automatically cast attract.

"a legendary bird beating up not fully evolved Pokemon" describes every pokemon game ever played
I was hoping Origin Dialga and Palkia would get new abilities when they were introduced in a main series game….I was wrong

Hydration is bad tho
@walaceandrade4046 Mega Swampert's intended game plan is a fast physical rain sweeper. Will o Wisp ruins that. Hydration allows Swampert to switch in on status without worry and it can stall its mega evolution if the player predicts the opponent going for a burn.
@@PhazonSpear its a nice use of a pre-mega abilty, gotta give you that... But in a world where mega evos are no longer a thing in competitive... Base Swampert deserves an ability that allows him to shine on its own.
Were Telepathy Dialga and Palkia good in BDSP Doubles? You'd think Dialga being immune to a partner Garchomp's Earthquake would be useful.

Since Zapdos and Moltres have hidden abilities that involve making contact with them, it would have been interesting to see Articuno gain an equivalent that has a chance to inflict frostbite from PLA. It would fit nicely with Articuno’s great special bulk

No, Trick Room would almost assuredly be overpowered and broken.
I propose articuno should've been given a unique ability "Frostbite" which on contact has a 10% chance to freeze matching the other Elemental birds

i think the coolest way to buff vespiquen would be to make attack/defend/heal order get stronger if you have a combee in your team.
Maybe instead of auto TR, Dialga's ability could make it bypass charge-up and recharge turns eith moves like Meteor Beam and Roar of Time.
one thing that helps snow cloak articuno now, and what allowed it the tournament win, was the change from hail to snow going into sv and snow now does for the def of ice types what sand does for the spdef of rock/ground/steel, which translates into articuno being able to take more hits from the physical side in the snow which actually does pair well with snow cloak since now there's a more defensive backbone to the strat.
the vespiquen part of tis vid is a fever dream and i live for it
With how well this was written, i hope bkc's next video will have a bathroom break in the first minute
Surprisingly, cvnty Vespiquen with a handbag was on my Bingo card
The best thing outside of this change for Vespiquen would be to just make it mono-bug. Only having x2 weaknesses and a filter/solid rock clone would make it a unique defensive choice.
However, loving that FSG has been learning his zoomer slang on skibiki, very demure etc
I thought Durant having truant was because it's their Dream to be lazy but they can't because the colony. I think that's the original goal of "dream abilities".
Maybe a bit of overkill, but since it is based partially on an axolotl, pert should have regenerator
throwback to when articuno was ubers in BDSP because it couldn't get pressure and snow cloak was banned
Articuno: Magic Guard. Snow Warning. Magic Bounce. Serene Grace.
Dialga: Kinda helped by Telepathy because friendly Earthquakes hurt and I guess not risking a Lava Plume burn or Discharge parz helps too, but it's useless in single formats. If I had to make a suggestion though, Regenerator.
Palkia: No Guard.
Swampert: Sheer Force. Guts. Rain Dish. Sand Rush.
Durant: Heatproof. It could have explained it as adapting to Heatmor by growing metalic armor, which Heatmor pressumably adapted to in turn by becoming Fire type, and it becoming a heat resistant alloy exoskeleton in response.
Dusknoir: Perish Body. Cursed Body. Shadow Tag.
Tyranitar: Stamina. Stakeout. Solid Rock. Rock Head. Sand Rush.
Vespiquen is just bad. I can't think of any reasonable ability that would meaningfully save it.
If a Damp pokemon is on the field, Ground-types lose their electric immunity. Like how Pikachu hurt Onix by making sprinklers rain on it first.
Damp was made for water types mostly how would this help water type Pokemon there's like only one electric type that gets it?
that change would make more sense to add to water sport
Lol that's stupid on ground type pokemon. Swampert would go from electric immune to electric weak.....
I would just make it a semi- kalos aura abilities clone. 30% power boost to water type attacks while active. The list of damp users are either pretty weak anyhow or have other abilites that are still better (like politoed) so i dont see what would be wrong with this.
Wouldn't that make Swampert weak to Electric?
Since we covered Swampert, I was wondering if we could also cover Sceptile alongside. I believe that Technician over the pointless Unburden would be a great Ability to give it or something that could be even better could work as well.
8:10 (sees the comments) those abilities would be too hyper game breaking
9:10 So.... why we didn't include Giratina here? It also has telepathy
Forgot Jellicent? With both of those things?
@@lipika2841 O yea lol
An idea for some of these abilities or some new ones:
To buff Damp, have it work like Water Bubble, preventing burns and/or halving fire damage
For Dialga, have an ability that can set up either Trick/Wonder/Magic Room for 5 turns, but if it’s a mix of all of them, 3-4 turns.
Palkia, have an ability to set up Gravity and removes terrain sets and hazards, prevents new terrains/hazards for 3-4 turns.
For Vespiquen, a mix of Queenly Majesty and Solid Rock, call it Queen’s Presence.
@SpiritualAura96
This ideia is realy great.

new Dusknoir ability idea: Reaper
Raises special attack every time a Pokemon faints while dusknoir is on the field
Swampert exclaims regenerator as a HA tbh
I think a good ability they could give dialga would effectively be power herb the ability. except it activates more than once and also works on ally pokemon. palkia setting up gravity would be less op, but I think a one way no guard like ability with a mold-breaker effect could be good
Dialga and Palkia having those Trick Room/Gravity abilities sounds fun.
