It's so incredible to have things like this to see for when musicians were mostly pretty formally educated still as an acceptable profession. Nowadays that's a "dream" as most would say. Beautiful performances. Had my head bopping and grooving for an hour and a half straight
I was born in 1965. I can't remember how old I was but this was the music i could hear on the radio at night when, being put to bed by my mom, i was falling asleep. The magic this music created around me is unforgettable. In fact, it found its way to my soul, to the inner child so, each time I listen to it, I'm there, in my childhood, protected and loved. I thank you for this music! 🤗❤
I believe, we are all spiritual beings having a human experience. Religion is just our attempt to pay homage to the spirit within us. You have spoken from the spirit within you, which is also in the Bible, found in the book of James, chapter 1, verse 17, "Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the father of lights..." Oscar Peterson embodies that scripture. Be blessed and keep listening to the spirit within.
When I was born , in 62 , they played for me as I was a baby. My parents did this to me. My parents danced in the 50ties on LIVE Louis Armstrong, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, such and more, in Amsterdam. So. lovely to y'all !
I've been watching for only 3 minutes and already I'm blown away. Ray Brown with his eyes closed, playing and mouthing what he's hearing in his mind is so great, Ed Thigpen keeping that fabulous groove, and Oscar at his best, what can you say? And I haven't even gotten to the horns yet, wow, this is what I aways hope to find on You Tube.
My late father was a wonderful piano player and he idolized Oscar Peterson and Eroll Garner. I took him to see Pat Matheny and Lyle Mays in the third row center at The Wiltern and he was absolutely blown away. He was a great man and I miss him.
I’ve listened and enjoyed Jazz all my 57 years of life and it still amazes me at the level of artistic talent and mastery great Jazz musicians have. The musician must lose himself and become part of the music and give it life to play like this. There are truly no words.
Hallo young un. It is grand to hear a young person understanding this music. Welcome aboard the music train. Eddie, Ray and Oscar are top shelf. Listen to their album 'Night Train'. IAnything on Blue Note is the best of he best. I was introduced to them personally in 1976. I am a piano player. No one beats Oscars three right fingers in a trill. Never. Go girl. Oscar Peterson is known as the "Taj Mahal" and it's clear why- his natural talent and enjoyment in playing comes through so clearly in his music. What a treasure!!

@@JaschaBingham Been a good painting time recently. I can see why you like Oscar Peterson, you are an excellent pianist Listening to Caravan now. Very well done.
I'm sorry, but the piano was only played before this man found it, dusted it off, & WORKed it! LORD! He gleaned from the incomparable greats who came before him & created absolute divinity.
I listen to piano across all types of music. I agree with you but I would remove the words "Jazz and Blues" from your sentence. I consider him as one of those few that transcends the type of music they play. Sometimes I smile at just how casual he makes his perfection seem when we all know that that kind of perfection never comes without total devotion to the craft.
Thanks to TH-cam recommendations, I could see the Oscar Peterson Trio in the 60s. Mr. Peterson,he invited me to Jazz Music in my 70s. His tone is warm and bright for me.
I put this video on and my grandson came up to me and said, just like in a call centre. “Your call is important to us, so please hold the line”. I replied, if a call centre was playing this great man’s music, I’d be ringing up just to to listen to him. But let’s pay homage to his fellow accompanist, who had to equal Oscar’s incredible talent.
I love that the mics for the instruments faintly pick up Oscar's scatting while he plays. I saw an interview with him a few years ago and he was asked why he never sang. He pulled the mic close and answered. "I'll sing a bit for you and you'll understand." He played and started singing. He sounded EXACTLY like Nat King Cole. He chuckled when he finished. "See? It's already been done." How could you not love that man?

I just love 8:06- the solo has space to breathe as Ed is doing his famous switch from bushes to sticks and when him and ray enter with Oscar you can feel that groove as much as a rock hitting you in the face. Oscar in comping mode is nice to see as well, the way he builds up the soloist’s solo with that added touch is nice 👍

These players have faith in what they are playing!
