In 1990, I was still in junior high school. A magazine introduced an incredibly amazing jazz pianist. but, I listened to album by a certain jazz trio at audio system shop, without paying attention to the name of the pianist introduced in a magazine, and was captivated by the overwhelmingly amazing playing. One day, when I read a magazine again, there was an article raving about Keith Jarrett, which was the exact name of the pianist in the only jazz trio I was obsessed with.
After that, even after he achieved the unbelievable and unexplored music of the Vienna Concert, he did not stop and made me happy with many wonderful activities.
I listened to his performance of Nat King Cole's Answer Me over and over again, crying tears of sadness and gratitude at the wonderfulness of his performance of Nat King Cole's Answer Me, which was released after it was announced that he would cease performing. Thank you very much to the rare performers in history who were born for the sake of music.
I will continue to be saved by you.

Keith Jarrett has stood out for decades as a truly unique voice on the piano, even in a world of fantastic jazz pianists he shines and brings a style to the instrument that is his and his alone, it's a real blessing to listen to his work, and to get to watch him play, to me he has helped to shape what jazz means and will be forever a hero of music

Personally I like DeJohnette a lot. Great pianist himself [and a Fazioli man to boot].
But as a bassist his drumming would drive me crazy. I had a drummer exactly like him and at times it was impossible to get traction because he was so busy - specially with brushes. But I accept it was probably my fault not being good enough. As I say, DJ a great musician and please don't take my reply as a criticism.

For those looking for some highlights of this superb Feb 1985 Tokyo Performance, I would recommend listening to Rider starting at 28:28 with its swingy blues, So Tender starting at 50:10 where they so clearly are enjoying the music, Prism starting at 1:02:40 (with its hypnotising ostinato starting at 1:07:50), and finally God Bless the Child with again its swingy blues that will make you dance to its rhythm from 1:26:23 to the end.
Thank you Mike for sharing this! Absolutely loved this performance of the Trio. The overall musical quality of the second set in particular is phenomenal.

This is about the best I have seen Peacock play [ particularly on Stella by Cigarlight ].
Hard to look at Keith these days after his stroke and his left hand not working.

Jack and Gary were never distracted by Keith's vocalizing. Nor were they distracted when Keith left the keyboard and played the piano strings like a grand piano sized harp. They were as in awe of Keith's genius as was everyone else blessed enough to see him play live, even more so. The three of them playing together was mesmerizingly beautiful to behold. And contrary to the foolishness that Keith was dismissive to his audience, he is lovely person. He always intensely emersed himself in his performances and I imagine he needed time to unwind after playing. I saw him, Jack and Gary play three times. No one in the audience enjoyed what they were doing as much as the three of them did. It was apparent how much they loved playing together, and how much they loved each other. Sadly Gary has passed. Jack is still playing. Keith is recovering from his strokes of some six years ago. He thinks it was caused by the physical stress he experienced when he delivered a performance, stress especially on his brain. All he asked for from his audience was to pay attention and enjoy what he was giving to them. I know I did. The three autographed my copy of Standards 1 after they played in Houston at the Wortham in the early 90s. All were very gracious when I asked. In the 00s, I saw them play at the Mann. While he waited on stage for some sound adjustments, I had a brief conversation from my front row seat with Keith about how his looks were aging as wonderfully as his playing. He had a good laugh as he pondered out loud if that said more about his looks or about his playing.

It never used to bother me, but the other day I heard this trio on the radio and sort of laughed at how absurd it sounded. Maybe I've grown a bit conservative. I have seen so many legendary jazz musicians perform live and had thought that perhaps the musician I wanted to see above all others was Keith Jarrett. It saddens me that that will most likely never happen.

Keith Jarret had to met the classical composer and pianist John Gould from Canada, or least listened to him. Gould hummed also, as he played. Although, Mr. Gould did not stand as he played and tapp his feet.
You had to have the met the one and only Stevie Wonder.

These people are prophets of good times, past or future, you decide...

Love Gary Peacock’s virtuous playing so melodic, and Jack’s classic cymbal and percussion , remembering the beautiful album ,” My Song “ , Keith Jarret laying previously the exact melodic notes. Also use of dissidence as in Mandela. Jan, those days on sax, purity , faith and prayer .

Mr. De Johnette's drum solo[55:32] outstandingly technical, a passionate romp filled to the "musical brim"(if that's a thing)with odd time signatures that'll perplex a fan of percussion to the max! Each player in this trio is a master musician flexing some of their technique muscle inside of, just a few finest career moments in 1985 nicely tucked inside of Tokyo's finest theater. A musician who's truly aware what they've got on hand here couldn't ask for more. Bravo!

It takes what I like to call listening experience when it comes to truly allowing yourself to be absorbed into Jarrett's sonic landscapes. Keith Jarrett is a master craftsmen, he's an event horizon witnessed in our lifetime. After you've gained that ability, around two or so years laying back listening to Keith on your audiophile system, that cost you about ten grand, that's without the speakers, they required endless nights of testing, by appointment only in one the finest Stereo equipment shops in Europe, France, but who's name dropping here, our focus has to stay on Jarrett, now that that's complete, your mission is to spend that time listening to one powerfully dedicated musician, and since all of this has been put together, you've got magic my fellow Jazz men, a rare taste of being one w/ his Excellency's work. Bravo!

Watch his left hand. We are all fortunate to have all great ones to inspire us. Even the ones that just love to play. ♥️

This is not the first time that I listen to this concert. However, the magic is always the same. The more I hear it, the more there are nuances to discover. Those three musicians really have something to do with the sacred entities of music. They are absolute in what they do and create. This is not to say that they are BETTER, say, to the musicians in trios like the ones led by Bill Evans or McCoy Tyner... there is no such a judgement at this level... This is about magic.... Thank you Mike for uploading such a jewel.

In fact there was. Glenn Gould [1932-52], who, despite vocalising like KJ, is recognised as the greatest interpreter of The Goldburg Variations [J.S.Bach].
Vocalising in recordings of 'classical music' is even more difficult to tolerate than in jazz but Gould's unique and supreme rendition of the Goldburgs withstood that.
A friend of mine is good friends with Jack de J. and indeed we all went 'for an Indian' in NYC. When I asked them how they regarded the K.J. vocalising, he just raised their eyes as to say, "We have to put up with it". OK by me
