Both sublime musicians, I count it amongst one of my most incredible live music experiences, witnessing Oscar Peterson play live in Liverpool in 2006. He was old and frail, requiring assistance on stage by band members. But when he played everything came alive, even though I was only 10 at the time it was clear to me that I was in the presence of a special artist. mcrohof he was a great guy I used to tune the pianos for him and sometimes we had a 'sesh' together many times afterwards jamming through to the early hours on 2 pianos! I used to call him the big 0 he was of course a better pianist than me but I learnt a lot
How fortunate you could have this experience at 12 years old. I was about double your age and saw him in Köln, Germany. I sat in the front row, with my wife, close to the piano. Already as I saw him walk out, and sit on the piano stool - my heart was thumping. But when he played that first cord, my throat tightened and I thought I would never get my breath back. That moment, even after 50 years, my throught feels that moment. I always appreciated going to concerts when in Germany, listening to my music with appreciative music lovers.
12 years old, train from Bellingham, Wa to Vancouver, BC. Lots of walking-nothing to fear in the early 60s. Oscar with Ray and Herbie. Home by 3am. What an experience!
Wonderful. As a lifelong fan of both jazz and classical piano, I have always noted the sound of different piano makers. Peterson played a Bösendorfer, an instrument with a unique sound profile. The lower strings in particular have a resonance like no other piano, a quality well suited to the left hand of the great Oscar Peterson.
NHØP is the greatest Danish jazz musician of all times. And no doubt the very best bass player in the world. When the very very best jazz pianist ever selects the best bass player as his side-man in a duo concert, something special might happen. And it did! The best performance of both of them, I've ever heard! Amazing!!
The trail of notes, the sounds, are unpredictable to my ears. That’s part of what excites me listening to this level of talent. How does he / they know where to go next, the perfect inevitable note is always there and is such a perfect joyful surprise for me following him / them down the rabbit hole.
If only Chopin and Lizt could have heard this! What then? Possibly Oscar would have had some competion but on the basis of this performance they'd have to work for a few years to meet him on his terms. Outstanding!
Just a wonderful performance and Jazz at its best. Some people tell me they do not like Jazz, asking them why they say it is not pop. Neither is Bach or Mozart. However, the parallel is here, there is nothing better than Jazz-Bach. Innovation and intuition are what Bach's music is and Jazz is as well. There only exist good music and bad music. NHOP, The man with the longest name in history and also the BEST base player in history. I have had the plaisure to see him in Stockholm (Fashing) in the 80th. Unforgetable !!!!
Simple sublime! Take in the extinct species that has been captured here. I doubt in my lifetime there will even be anyone who comes close to Dr. Peterson! Herbie Who? Chick, isn't that a baby chicken? I am lucky to have been able to see Oscar perform on more than 20 occasions! One time on a small upright piano in a classroom with 5 other students. That was life changing! His energy, enthusiasm, humour, talent and hard work were unparalleled. NHOP was such a bad ass! He had the personality of an Angel. He demonstration his genius between sets one night when I was 13 years old. He took me aside and started playing his bass.He proceeded to lighting the thing on fire with his superb musicality and extreme technical prowess. 40 years later I am still in awe!
Chick Corea and Hiromi are great, watch the video of them together. Oscar just embodies a blues piano background. I don't think any pianist with comparable talent evolving today would want to play his way - it's been perfected.
Jcftmk Dalaxiy but as beautiful and impressingly effervescent Oscar played his tonal vocabulary was centered around a turnaround/ blues and ballad style that was rooted in the swing era. He never transcended into impressionism or exotic flavorings, abstracts or synthetic scales nor polyrhythms or atonal moods like Chick Corea mastered in his own unique style.
Dear Ward, exactly the same with me; I bought "Night Train" ... He regularly toured through my home town Basel, Switzerland, I never missed a concert though I could hardly afford it with my teenage pocket money ....

NHOP BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just outstanding....
Beautiful !! Oscar and Niels ,what a great combination .
that´s is Musik and feeling😇
NHOP, The man with the longest name in history and also the BEST base player in history. I have had the plaisure to see him in Stockholm (Fashing) in the 80th. Unforgetable !!!!
Momentos em que Oscar e Niels rompem a barreira do humanamente possivel em termos de harmonia e improvizaçao.
Amazing!
Two of the best.
Bon Voyage dear Mr. P and Mr NHOP> We all love you.
My grandfather introduced me to Oscar Peterson when I was a little squirt
... and I am more in awe now than I ever was.
Chick Corea and Hiromi are great, watch the video of them together. Oscar just embodies a blues piano background. I don't think any pianist with comparable talent evolving today would want to play his way - it's been perfected.
@@skierpage Oscar Peterson is far superior to Chick Corea and hiromi
His technique and dexterity are so refined
Jcftmk Dalaxiy but as beautiful and impressingly effervescent Oscar played his tonal vocabulary was centered around a turnaround/ blues and ballad style that was rooted in the swing era. He never transcended into impressionism or exotic flavorings, abstracts or synthetic scales nor polyrhythms or atonal moods like Chick Corea mastered in his own unique style.
Oscar 💐💐💐 thank you for your gorgeous gift to the world. I miss your music.
I must say that as a danish bass player I’m proud. It’s not only Ida Nielsen 👍🏽🎸
There are jazz greats and then there are jazz greats. He surpasses them all. Love you OP. And thanks......
Не повторимо,шедевр полный,Оскар и Хеллис!
Bought my first LP ever when I was 14years. It was 'Girl Talk' by Oscar Peterson. Since then he is my life. Over 50 years now...
I know what you mean W D; 64 years in my case - also Clifford Brown.
You have great taste😍
Dear Ward, exactly the same with me; I bought "Night Train" ... He regularly toured through my home town Basel, Switzerland, I never missed a concert though I could hardly afford it with my teenage pocket money ....
Almost exactly the same story here: Bought my first LP when I was twelve - “Night Train”. Since then he’s been my life. Over 44 years now... 😍
Oscar is the best thing to come out of Canada next to the cold fronts in August.
@@mediaisevil6730 How could I forget.
Joni Mitchell, Kate & Anne McGarrigle, Leonard Cohen, Clarence White, Lennie Breau...
These 2 together are the best of all time..
They swing sooooooooo hard. Outstanding.
You play your song of love, and just for me. Thank you, Oscar.
never gonna be 2 players again like this gentleman
Never wow
NHOP so fluid, so fantastic.
Listening to them plat brings me both intense joy and envy at the same time hahahaha
Wow! what a duo. The base player is outstanding.
Superb effortless imaginative playing from both artists...
