We want to say thank you to our participants but also to our audience for always enabling respectful and meaningful conversation in our comments. We know this discussion does not address all aspects or perspectives of this very deep and historical conflict, but we did our best to represent as many perspectives as we could. For those of you that don’t know, Jubilee's philosophy for Middle Ground is to bring people together and have an open dialogue in order to develop a deeper sense of understanding and empathy. Islam is a great religion of peace ! I mean , their countries are shitholes who oppress the right of basically Everyone , but other than That , islam is a great religion of peace !
Sonya Orak Sonya Orak well I’ll rephrase it for him since he wasn’t speaking in his first language : “ I was born to live but my sister was born to be murdered by a soulless soldier. “ , now go ahead and be a smartass .
Sonya Orak so you’re trying to justify shooting a 10 year old girl? Give me a break. As the Israeli guy in the video said “ they ( the soldiers) are only ordered to shoot if they feel like someone is a threat to them. “, and I can’t imagine that the guy you are trying to defend felt in danger by this girl.
Sonya Orak oof you don’t get his point smartass. My sister was born to die -> she was young, barely lived her life in war and she got killed before experiencing it. Meaning she was still a baby (no smartass, not a biological baby) and barely experienced life. Life had not started for her and she got killed. What’s so hard about understanding what he meant?
Sonya Orak : Humans are born to die, death is inevitable. His sister was born to be taken early and he was born to be sat in this interview giving his side, everyone’s purpose is different! From a ‘biblical’ perspective where does it say we have no free will? Where does it promote violence? And where does it say when you are enlisting as a solider where you go on to PROTECT LIVES, you end up taking an innocent one who must have been half if not quater his age? We humans are capable of many things, definitely peace included, you see it’s natural because it comes from within the heart! But if we do talk about ‘natural behaviour’, Cain whom killed his brother was left as a prime example to the world and was left as a ‘fugitive’ and ‘wanderer’ and ‘cursed’. As humans have elvolved today, i can happily say we learn from mistakes, Cain became a warning for those who needed it! Plus Less than 1% of deaths are caused by homocide (globally) the rest of the 99% are actually dying naturally! We are all born with some purpose in life..Just have to find yours!
Jubilee you MUST discuss this again, especially with what is currently going on now. Also please reach out to Arab too, he had so much to say and it would be interesting to hear him again
I think its a terrible story. Because he told his son he had a daughter to die essentially. What a f'd up thing to say. I would never justify something like that to anyone it was a ridiculous story. And to the others is this thread. Thousands of jews died defending their homeland
lol but the israeli guy who lost 20+ friends its fine for you. just shows that you dont really care about who lost who, you just hate israel and love arabs
@@smexybear9845 but who started the conflict. imagine real quick if wherever you live/are from got taken over by another country and were like okay so yeah this isnt your country anymore sorry. plus many more Palestinians died in the hands of idf and they had a right to defend themselves. furthermore in one of the wars Palestinians fought with stones but the the idf fought with guns
Jack Zara G-D gave that land to the Hebrews. If G-D hated Esau for giving up his birthright G-D will hate Israel for giving up its promised land to palestine. Judgement day will be based on how they treated Zion. Iran, Russia, Syria, Libya, and other nations will be destroyed and will name the messiah king of kings and lord of lords and having a long lasting period of peace.
Noah Remnek we are talking politics here. religion is not an excuse for killing people nor it justifies the israeli appropriation of the palestinian lands. y’all catholic people are constantly expecting respect without giving it back and are always playing the victims of the situation
Noah Remnek i don’t care what book you romanticize, still not a good argument to bring into politics and especially when the safety of a community of people is at stake and their dignity and the preservation of their human rights is endangered
6:23 the blonde girl just made a hole in my heart this is such a smart way to talk to communicate And on a more general meaning, I feel like even though there is so much emotion involved everyone is able to make proof of calm and empathy, express mostly calmly, let each other talk and be able to understand all of the unsaid put in game by the barrier of language. Like it was a bit harsh I think to talk like that to each other and except a few slips, it was great. And also I appreciate the fact that the people involved were from different social classes
@@Enkubuss Thats Rich White Ashkenazi European Jewish Zionist privilege and that mindset are the problem as the guy in the suit so clearly showed. It showed how he and his ilk, his social class, control most of the power, capital, judicial and political resources and they run Isreal and have decided they are not giving up the land, Palestine, and neither is the IDF, and that it will be over the dead bodies of as many Palestinians as it takes. That's the message he was sending in his inability to acknowledge the history of the land. He is of a cold heart. Something that is not yours can not be given to anyone else. World War 2 was horrible but Britain can not give you the ancestral home of an indeginous people especially when they are currently residing there. Any nation would normally consider the giving away of your land by some other nation without the consensus of the palestinian people about how they felt about giving up part their land as a gift to a group of people so grievously violated by the results of WW2 as were many other groups of people, were an act of war. That would be a hostile action and would be an alien invasion that anyone would and should meet with resistance in the defense of the family and home. If any land was owed to them it lies somewhere in Europe mainly German lands. As Germany can give away their own land to a people they managed to have their homes stolen from them through their part as the Axis in WW2. They could build their own small European nation there and thrive. That's the only other thing that is owed in reparations for the Holocaust is a blood free land for Palestinians to call their own. If Jews don't want land in central Europe then give it to Palestinians to develop for themselves in repayment to their violated rights of safety family and home.
If someone told me they lost their 10yo sister in those tragic circumstances the first thing I would say is "I'm very sorry for the loss you and your family suffered". That's it. Nothing else needs to be said, no need to turn attention to yourself or make statements which make it seem as if you are defending the person that did it.
exactly. and the fact that he pulled out the "who suffered more" card and compared the death of family by the IDF to deaths of the very IDF soldiers who were already at risk of death and who very much took the lives of innocent Palestinian citizens is absolutely revolting. The way he said it and pulled out the list and tried to gain sympathy points by saying he "doesn't know which grave to visit first" seems like he's manipulating the audience to feel bad for him over the "27 friends" rather than the family.
Yeah, the way he was saying like I was never ordered to shoot someone unless there's a threat. So was the israeli soldier ordered to shoot the 10 years old child? Why did he shot her? Was a 10 years old going to school a threat to Israel? His friends from IDF joined the IDF while putting their lives on line, knowing they will probably die in the line of their duty. While a normal civilian family does not wake up every morning knowing they will be shot. But these Palestinian civilians do. They wake up knowing they'll probably be killed that day, not because they joined the military knowing that, but simply because they were born into this world.
anne smith but not all the Arab countries want to get involved, the strongest weapon Palestinians have are rocks Israelis have bombs, who do you think is innocent
The Palestinian guy really broke my heart. He still cares about other sights feelings despite his murdered sister. I'm sure his gorgeus heart can beat this hatred.
@@smexybear9845 I'm sorry for his lost. I can't ignore his pain but he said that he lost his FRIENDS. Other guy lost his sister and we don't know if he lost his friends. He didnt mentioned about it. Anyway the point is forgiving and respecting other side despite the prejudice and hatred. We mustnt compare their pain. İts the reason of ongoing war.
It’s so sad having been in Israel for about a month and getting to know Israeli and Palestinians alike., they’re all just regular people trying to provide for themselves, their families. Even the Israeli soldiers are at average, 18, 19 year olds. It’s so heartbreaking that they were all born into this conflict.
17:55 The dude keeps saying he doesn't believe in violence, but then he also doesn't believe in peace between the 2 sides, he isn't willing to compromise, he won't allow a second state, and he requires that the state is ruled by Israelian sovereignty... Dude, you might have a list of 27 names, but you didn't name one sibling or parent. Stop acting like the only victim.
That’s the thing, as long as HAMAS exists and the majority of the Palestinian people are okay with its regime, there cannot be peace between Palestine and Israel. That’s a fact. Remove HAMAS and peace will be achieved in days
The Israelis have agreed a two state solution many times, only to have it thrown in their faces. This guy is simply being a realist. I’m sure all of those people and any one of us of reasonable mine, would agree that a two state solution would be wonderful - it’s simply not possible when the islamists that govern Palestine want all Jews out/dead!
@@Decimator69420that’s just untrue, it’s not like if Hamas was gone the Gaza Strip would just be free to exist. If you want “peaceful” coexistence with Israel look at the West Bank where there are countless unfair actions taken against Palestinians.
There is a deep pain and sadness in the eyes of the Palestinian guy. I don't know how he could sit with them and tried to pretend that it's okay but he is dying inside. I hope he finds happiness and peace in his life.
Man the Palestinian guy is destroyed from inside, I saw him “smile” just two times in this video, and those “smiles” were just because I think he didn’t want to spread sadness, but I think we all agree see pain in his eyes.
@Ștefan Cel Mare no, totally wrong. He is sad because israeli settlers who came from ukraine and russia in 1948 and by using weapons handed to them by britain have slaughtered and killed the children of palestinians, have also killed his beloved ones
@Ștefan Cel Mare how is killing the people with no power and trying to make "peace" with the ones who have power peace? And don't get me started on "their land"
@Ștefan Cel Mare Besides, so what if some people don't want to accept the peace offer? I mean it is called an "offer" for a reason. A burglar comes in and shoots all ur guests in ur home and you are supposed to accept peace with him when he points his knife at you? If not, you are a bad dude? The thing is, it is very very very vividly clear where the right and wrong lies. It is very obvious that the israeli colonization of the holly land is a wrong deed. I am pretty sure if you asked a 5 y.o about it he would say the same thing.
The Palestinian guy is still grieving. There's a lot of sadness in his eyes yet what is so heartbreaking is he still believe in peace and empathy despite everything. He isn't bitter and become vengeful when he got all the reasons on earth to be one.
Palestinians: My beloved innocent family members were brutally and mercilessly murdered by Israeli soldiers in front of my eyes... Israeli guy: Here's a list of some random Israeli soldiers who got hit by a pebble thrown by little toddlers terrorists. I wrote them on paper because you know, they're not that important to me. I might forget their names.
The Palestinian guy in the white t-shirt didn't smile even once. You can clearly see that when he lost his 10 year old sister in front of his eyes, his vision in life completely changed
I never experienced it in my life but I try to imagine someone's daughter being mutilated in front of you sends shivers through me. My love and prayers extend to all the Palestinians
I agree. Having lost his sister yet still being the only person who came forward for two-state solution. He looks like one of my Israeli friends who is Jewish. You really can't tell Jews and Arabs apart sometimes. Which says everything really.
It’s incredible that Palestinians after going through everything from being slaughtered, homes set on fire, ethnic cleansing, forced immigration … they are still willing to sit and have a dialogue. They are still hoping for peace… that’s how much humanity and love they have to their land. This experience humbled me to always seek humanity and peace even in the worst of situations. For Israelis out there you are in the position force and power. Your Religious book promised you a land were indigenous people were living. You have taken many innocent lives to take this land. I hope this experience opens your minds and hearts to peace now. It’s enough blood shed and tears.
at the very end of this video... seeing them Smiling and having a meal with them ,talking....i really cried...how can people be this humble and warm...
Hamas….not the elderly, not the mothers, not the hospitalised, and not the children of Gaza. But that’s who paid for this by a ratio of 1200:30,000 (plus the damage and destruction of every school, hospital, all infrastructure, all means of normal medical, power, food and water services)
I remember my aunt going to Israel to work as volonteer at orphanage for palestinian kids. When she was asked at airport in Israel about a reason of her trip she told the truth. They kept her for few houres before leting her go and shortened time she could be in Israel. Then when she was leaving this country she heard: no more Israel for you. How could taking care of orphan kids be consider as wrong and harmful for anyone? In what kind of messed up world are we living in?
Thanks for sharing. You hear many instances like this, Doctors Without Borders would have video tapes confiscated or erased. What are they fearful of?? It’s a shame but most people who visit both sides come away with the same impression, Palestinian perspective is not highlighted in mainstream and Israel prefers to keep it that way. Do you know which orphanage?

I'm sure the Israeli people could be contacted cause they're most likely 100% safe - alive and breathing ... but the Palestinians... well we can only pray they are still alive and well. They probably have much more pressing concerns right now than this... like protecting their families, themselves, their neighbours or just mourning over the loss of their homes, their livelihood and everything they've known. And quite frankly I think it would be extremely insensitive for them to be forced to play calm right now and hide their hurting after all the trauma their people are going through.
he was the one who killed the 10 year old girl ? No . Therefore your argument is invalid. He can only answer for himself and not for the other soldier who disrepected rules
Thefilipe58 but they also said that if an idf soldier wrongfully murders someone they go to jail yet the guy that murdered the 10 old girl didn’t go to jail so it wasn’t only the soldier that didn’t follow the rules but the idf as a whole since the soldiers represent the idf and their rules
Ehsan Abdullatif the rules are to go to jail if a soldier kills an innocent person ... sometimes is hard to know who shoot, or in which circumstances the innocent girl died... this is war and sadly there are innocent people who on both sides die ... but idf tried its best to try to diminish it ... but it’s naive to think that all innocent deaths will lead to prison in the middle of a war
Thefilipe58 yet it is still an innocent little girls life lost and as you said innocent lives are lost in war that is inevitable but why are the idf seen as soldier of justice and the people in the right and the Palestinians as terrorists, they both have killed innocents, they both fight for what is rightfully theirs so tell me what the difference is since both sides are bombing each other and shooting each other why are Palestine the bad guys?
@@Thefilipe58 it's not a "both sides" situation it's only the palestines who are dying there is a study shows that 50.000 palestines died guess what ? Zero Israeli died why is that u think ? I remember seeing this for the first time. Opened my eyes to the issue. Then Oct 7th happened and everyone thought the attack happened out of nowhere for no reason.
its insane, people older than me pretending october 7th was when this conflict started. Israel's occupation and idf killings have been happening for decades
@tanner loehr shut the fuck up anti palestinian israelis started this conflict. crying about hamas when its only a consequence of the genocidal and settler state that funded them in the first place? lol. i'm sorry but it's like crying about slaves finally snapping and fighting back.
@tanner loehr hammas only fired because of what happened in sheikh jarrah and what the IDF soldiers did to the mosque. You cannot expect them to just sit there and continue to be attacked.
@tanner loehr Omg I’m not justifying it but when you put into perspective that israel has killed more civilians in the last 3 days than hamas or al qads (which Palestinians DO NOT claim or condone) has in 10 years, then there should be some sort of thought that yes violence in general is wrong but Israel’s oppressing over Palestinians and the lives they have taken is too much at this point. and secondly don’t ever ever ever say “over that?” how can you be so insensitive, during their month of Ramadan as the Palestinians are peacefully praying, IDF barges in throwing grenades at children, men, and women and ruining the structure inside of this sacred place of worship. A tree then catches on fire outside and the Israeli citizens are on the other side watching it cheering and blasting music and dancing. Next, you cannot “legally” kick Palestinians out of their homes, not again. Do you not know the nakba? Why would they ever let them get away with what they did, AGAIN? im not justifying the rockets but for you to sit here and act like Israel is on the right side is disgusting. do you know how many innocent lives they’ve taken? and about that did you see the Palestinians that were lynched in the streets yesterday by Israeli settlers? Did you see the Israeli settlers also throw rocks at their cars and terrorizing the Palestinians at checkpoints? im not justifying but Israel’s packed with US’s aid. they knew the rockets wouldn’t damage them, lemme guess you forgot about the dome israel has that blocks everything?
Research pls Jews lived in the kingdom of judea for not centuries 3000 years and have been discriminated since then during Roman times a Roman emperor took over the Jewish kingdom and named it Palestine after ww1 British took over Palestine and isreal was formed to protect Jews and obviously was pushed back by Arab nations…

Because God gave the Israelites that land, then people kind of settled there, and then called it Palestine. Hence the conflict Israel wants the land back, bc it was Gods given right, but Palestine believes that is their land, and maybe wants to expand as well. Just saying conflict ain't it. @@JimmyR42 Ran responded just fine to that. You can have empathy for someone and still hold your position against them. This is a major problem with politics today. Both sides just declare the other just has no heart or they're evil or they have no empathy and then expects to not have to defend their position.
@@JimmyR42 you missed my point entirely but thank you for the short essay. I always enjoy a good read. empathy is not a solution nor an argument. Questioning someone's empathy is what people use as a mechanism to downplay an opposition's significance by calling their virtues immoral.
@@GiggityxGamer Yes I ignored your point because it doesn't concern the question at hand, and I pointed out why in my previous comment but let's try again. What you're saying is about how opposing political sides demonize the other, some of which lack empathy and use the term as a rhetorical device, proving themselves as lacking empathy by doing so. The fact that some people use that term in such a way doesn't mean that it's the only way the term is used, and I'm not saying that what you're describing didn't happen in this conflict but it is a byproduct of the bigger problem she accurately pointed at. The way she used it wasn't to accuse him of lacking empathy as a person but rather to point out that the tool he's using to justify his position, history, is the same tool that both sides are using and the reason why they are both entrenched in their position pointing fingers at each other, like kids saying "the other one started it first". An empathy-based reasoning would not look behind and look at the now(to stop the killing) and the future(to bring hope) and is the only way out of such a conflict without a blood bath to determine the "victor". Also "Questioning someone's empathy is what people use as a mechanism to downplay an opposition's significance by calling their virtues immoral." This can sometimes be true(it often is in american politics), but it is also true that immorality has often tried to justify itself as a necessity via some other "virtue" and that this rigid mindset of "my virtues are infallible" is not only proof of a lack of empathy, it might even go as far as just a basic lack of sympathy. So how would you differentiate both cases?
I could not hold back my tears while watching this, especially when thinking of what is happening nowadays in Palestine. I could feel the pain in their eyes. Although Arab couldn't speak English fluently and couldn't express all he wanted to say, he didn't need to say anything. I could read his mind when looking into his eyes. I find it very kind of the two Israeli girls to communicate nicely and show empathy, not only for Israel. As for the politician Ran, I am very disappointed. He made his point very clear: he doesn’t see Palestinians as human beings and wants Palestine to disappear. He can't even compromise. This shows that most ordinary Israeli people aren't the reason for this conflict, but the government is the actual problem. Wish peace for everyone
The pain in Arab's eyes when he tells of the loss of his sister and the calm they all manage to keep while remembering their killed family members touches me. I'm so sorry for them. No one should experience that.

@@sonychka You are heartless

That's it.

* To disregard all of these types of people as mere casualties of war is the key pervasive ideological problem.
Military violence towards civilians, especially when those deaths outnumber that of combatants, should never be regarded as mere casualties of war.
There should be nothing casual about civilian death in legitimized war because there are in fact rules to modern warfare.

I WATCHED this video long ago. But now again it has even more meaning. Very sad too how some had to keep correcting what they said, even though they said it clear the first time. Especially when it came to the simple word PEACE.
The most heartbreaking thing for me is many things... the one that stood out is when the Palestine guy was talking about his sister and what his dad told him about her death. And the other guy responds with.... that's just words or a saying. So rude. I get that too, he probably had watch what he said since he was enlisted in the military.

Same... How can you look someone in someone's eyes-- someone who was *born and raised* on that land-- and tell them that it isn't theirs? It hurts my heart...
Because God gave the Israelites that land, then people kind of settled there, and then called it Palestine. Hence the conflict Israel wants the land back, bc it was Gods given right, but Palestine believes that is their land, and maybe wants to expand as well. Just saying conflict ain't it. "How about empathy", the closest rebuttal I've heard to a hitchslap since we lost Hitchens.
Also "Questioning someone's empathy is what people use as a mechanism to downplay an opposition's significance by calling their virtues immoral."
This can sometimes be true(it often is in american politics), but it is also true that immorality has often tried to justify itself as a necessity via some other "virtue" and that this rigid mindset of "my virtues are infallible" is not only proof of a lack of empathy, it might even go as far as just a basic lack of sympathy. So how would you differentiate both cases?
Cola Slimes She was the only good person who was from Isreal that was there
I could not hold back my tears while watching this, especially when thinking of what is happening nowadays in Palestine.
