Request for video: Would be nice to see an entire cabinet set (doors, drawers & carcasses) painting process from start to finish (staging, painting, how you get them out of the way to dry and get the next piece ready, etc), then how you handling/prep them for shipping as to not damage the finish.
Very timely, I have a new kitchen coming up with a designer I haven’t worked with and she speced some Benjamin Moore coolers. Might have to give this stuff a run. This is becoming one of my favorite channels seeing actual commercial work. Really appreciate you guys taking the time to make these ever week
Very good advice. I've been trying any and every product I could get to see which one I liked the best and also just for the experience. But have found that I'm constantly fighting with issues from one product to the next, and it's been a nightmare trying to get that flawless finish, because I haven't been sticking to one system. Made me think about that one. Sometimes we hurt ourselves trying to overthink something. 👍
I use mostly GF finishes for woodworking. Looks like a really nice result. I've used the two part conversion varnish. It's bullet proof. As it's water based, it's pretty straight forward to use.
Glad to see we're moving away from lacquer, which chips & flakes over time. Fwiw I personally own lacquer painted kitchen cabinets that I hate and acrylic painted kitchen cabs that I love--different homes, both renovations ~20yrs old. I've since done a few more kitchens with acrylic in my rental properties & love them. Here in the South wood moves a lot, even thin fully painted cab frames. Flexibility/stretch is critical to a lasting finish. *I use Richard's Signature Gloss Exterior paint...well aware it would not be considered the "Best Option" by most Pros (or even considered at all!), but it has held perfectly in real world use. I intend to use it again for the next two home-builds I have planned, which I hope will be my last 🙂🤞
Best course of action would be scuff, prime coat of the white undercoat then topcoat with the pro-series polyurethane. You could maybe get away with not priming depending on how they’re already finished.
Total rookie here. Good info. And very ballsy to make this video. I found the one thing that most people comment in the woodworking world is painting. Amazing how many negative comments people will opine when it comes to painting. Technique, equipment used, paint used, etc. But you nailed it when you said it takes hundreds of hours in a paint booth to notice the nuances to one of the comments. Just curious though why you don’t use an HVLP?
Thanks! Yes; there is an insane amount of content surrounding finishing on TH-cam. Some of which is coming from folks with very little experience. I’m admittedly somewhere in the middle. I know enough to be dangerous but I’m no expert finisher. And our Apollo turbine IS an HVLP!
Great video,Question. Is it OK if I want to apply with regular paint brush? Sprayer is not an option where I live. Also, my cabinets are painted already ( factory painted) and they are not white. Do you know if Enduro have different colors? Or can make a color that I need?. Thank you!!!!
Typically straight but sometimes I’ll thin up to 7% with distilled water. I find that if the can has been open (even with my mixing lid) it will thicken up on me. These can be scuffed in about an hour.
@@TodaysCraftsmen Thanks, it's funny that after I saw this video I was in my paint store picking up lacquer and they told me they just brought in the enduro, the rep just sent me out some samples yesterday so I will be giving it a shot, do you normally self seal? or os there a sealer or primer? I have always found that top coats don't generally sand well, I like to use sealers
@@TodaysCraftsmen thanks, I will let you know what I think, I might give milesi a shot too I have heard it's good stuff just don't like doing business with the supplier that carries it.
@@TodaysCraftsmenI am trying 2k now and cannot get rid of the stippling. I need some advise on why . I've sprayed for years but this product doesn't lay down good when spraying vertically. I've used 5% reducer and distilled water to reduce. 10-1 ratio.
@@TodaysCraftsmen That's all I spray is vertical surfaces. I usually spray Chemcraft Post cat Lacquer. I will most likely keep spraying Post cat pigmented lacquer. It has such a polished finish. Much better than any water based that Ive seen. Very durable, great build!
Very nice. Can finishes like this be brushed? I know spraying results in the most even finish, but for those of us who don't have a spraying system, brushing would be a good alternative.
@@oliver299d The compressor would have to be fairly substantial in size, correct? I don't think pancake compressors (the kind I have) can keep up with the required air-flow. Maybe an electric spray gun would work?
Yeah you can get away with a pretty small compressor if you go slow. But yes I know people who brush/roll face frames with this product. Might not be recommended but I bet it works fine.
Hadn't heard of Enduro. Looks good. Any experience with Renner, SW Gallery, Envirolak? How does Enduro compare to those? (edit: I'm aware Enduro is poly. I'm talking about for cabinets!)
I haven’t used any of those 3 personally but I know a lot of people who have. We’ve mainly sprayed Milesi, BM Command, BM Advance, and now the Enduro. I think everything is pretty similar and you’d have to have hundreds and hundreds of hours in the booth to fully grasp the small nuances.
I was watching all the way you mentioned price. I think k Dunn Edward’s, here in the west coast, was extremely expensive. Geez. Cost as much as my good filling

Great idea, I second this!
Love that!

I suggest you watcg this TH-cam channel: DIY Painting & Refinishing.” He covers all of these topics in detail.
But then we won’t get the views 🥲

Great information, Jeff. I like the way you always show that quality doesn't have to be complicated.

Thanks, Bill! Keep it simple!
Very nice finish. Your customers should be proud to own your cabinets.
Many thanks!
Now that looks great for color consistency & ease of application! Well done Jeff! 👍👍

Wood movement can be a b1tch!
Great work! What would be the process using this product on new cabinets already painted that someone would like painted in a different color?

They say spray only but I’m sure you can achieve somewhat decent results with a roller. Check out Unitedfinishes.com to get it color matched.
Bro Painting contractor 35 years your bad ass...really clean finish....
Much appreciated! I still consider myself a novice 🙏🏼
Solid product. Waterborne polys are the real deal especially the 2k versions.
Definitely! I used their 2K for a small high gloss project about a year ago.
How are you getting color matches? Does your supplier offer tinting? Does GF offer a tint bank like an automotive system?
We buy from Unitedfinishes.com and they tint to whatever color we ask for.
do you spray it straight or are you thinning it with water? how long does it have to dry before it can be flipped with no damage?

I’ve used Milesi in the past. Actually need to spray some soon to match an old job.
Excellent video. Thanks! Are you spraying the top coat without thinning with the Precision 5?
Thanks! Yes, typically we leave it unthinned but occasionally I’ll add a splash of distilled water.
Once once I have a color match product what if the customer decides to change the color or tweak the color do I have to send it back
If they change it you may be out of luck. If they want to tweak it then you’d have to bring it back to wherever you bought it.
Did I miss where you said to get the topcoat tinted?

What tip size you using for the 1k i saw you say 1.8 for the primer but what for the paint. And how much you reduce if you reduce
I’ve been using a 1.4 mostly but I’ve sprayed it with a variety of tips. My standard thinning is 12oz of finish and 2oz of distilled water.
@@TodaysCraftsmen interesting that's kind of high level of thinning no? Isn't it 10 percent max?
It’s just under 15%. I’m not sure what they spec but I thought it was 15% max; but I could be wrong!
@TodaysCraftsmen now you have me questioning myself i use pps 2.0 and I put just under 4 ounces per cup
Are you using the big 28oz cup? If so then we’re thinning the same amount. I get tired with the big cup so I use the small 14oz one 😂
Can you use these products on MDF material? If not, which water based paint brands would you recommend?
Yes, absolutely!
Could you please recommend a finish for a kitchen table that gets very tough daily use.
2k conversion varnish
How and where do I get it color matched
The sales person or distributor usually will color match the products they sell, this is the norm with most coating companies.
Whoever sells it should do the color match. We buy from United Finishes.
