    Would like to see you spray the face frames. That’s where I have the most problems with runs and over spray

      They can definitely be tricky trying to hit all of those edges.

    I LOVE the addition of the half lap ! I also love quarter sawn white oak. I am going to shamelessly copy this design into my own kitchen, I will give you credit for the idea. I use a water based finish for 90 plus percent of my work. I either use Mohawk wipe on stain or more often Watco Danish oil to accentuate the grain and more importantly give added depth to the look of the finish. Then spray over with the water based finish. Obviously this is labor intensive but well worth it to me. So Glad I found your channel , you do impressive work !

    Nice set-up for spraying. Especially like the 3-d printed pieces to be able to accomodate different size materials. I know everyone has their preferences as to spray methods, but I always preferred Air Assist Airless. You have a top of the line system with the Apollo, and I bought one to check it out. I guess I don't have the knowledge or patience to dial it in, so I switched back to AAA. For one I hate having the gun with a cup on it with material in it. (Even with the PPP). It's so easy to "dial in" the AAA and get an incredible finish that it's a no brainer for me. But, like I said, everyone has their choice. As always, great videos.

    • @TodaysCraftsmen
      @TodaysCraftsmen  ปีที่แล้ว

      AAA is definitely the gold standard. We spray in such small amounts and so infrequently that I can’t get behind cleaning out a pump and hose! We could run the Apollo with a remote pressure pot and fluid hose right to the gun. I’d be interested in trying that out if we had a ton of spraying to do.

    Any reason you prefer the poly over lacquer? I feel like sanding between coats on that many pieces with all those tight corners is a pain and adds a lot of time, with lacquer no sanding required.

      We’re no finish experts but we definitely prefer working with water based products.

    do you use the finish with an amber tint to get the "typical" finish color people are familiar with? I guess it'd be a finish "color" similar to what the hard wax oil finishes typically have.

    • @TodaysCraftsmen
      @TodaysCraftsmen  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The amber we were using was more of like a medium shellac color. But yes you have the right idea. Adding a touch of amber to a clear water based finish will help make it look more like an oil based finish!

  • @ericklodnicki

    Nice job Jeff. Can you comment on tip size and wherther you thinned the finish at all?

    • @TodaysCraftsmen
      @TodaysCraftsmen  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you sir! For this coat it was unthinned. 1.0 needle and nozzle. For the final coat I thinned about 5%. PSI was at 3.0.

    • @ericklodnicki
      @ericklodnicki ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TodaysCraftsmen thanks man. The Apollo sprayer has a PSI setting? I have a Fuji q5 and all it has is a graduated 'power' scale. Or do you run a gauge in line on your air hose?

    • @TodaysCraftsmen
      @TodaysCraftsmen  ปีที่แล้ว

      It does. It goes from 0-10 psi in tenth of a psi increments. It’s nice!

    How does the Enduro compare to the Pre cat finish from General Finishes? Is it a tougher finish?

    • @TodaysCraftsmen
      @TodaysCraftsmen  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m pretty sure they say the Enduro line edges out any of the regular General Finishes stuff in terms of durability and chemical resistance. The Enduro 1k products have nearly the durability of a 2k product (which they also sell Enduro 2k)

    • @TodaysCraftsmen
      @TodaysCraftsmen  ปีที่แล้ว

      We don’t do enough volume to justify the hassle of cleaning the pump and hose! But Kremlins are pretty much the gold standard.

    • @chrisgardner3606
      @chrisgardner3606 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TodaysCraftsmen If you had said you couldn't justify the cost because of your volume I can't argue that but it doesn't that much time at all .The time saved in spraying more than makes up for the cleaning. You should get a demo. Not having to refill the cup, the weight of the cup that bulky hose. That was a decent amount of work I saw in your shop. Tell you what, you don't know what your missing.

    • @kruser114
      @kruser114 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Could not agree more with the kremlin or AA idea. If you are spraying with a 1k material not sure you need to completely clean the unit from one day to the next.

    • @TodaysCraftsmen
      @TodaysCraftsmen  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t think the Apollo will ultimately be what we settle on, especially if we continue to spray more. But for the time being I think it’s a good fit! There’s definitely a reason all/most production shops are using AAA.

    • @TodaysCraftsmen
      @TodaysCraftsmen  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I can see it happening down the road. But the Apollo is working great for us right now!
