    Hi Russ, amazing video, thanks for featuring us! Just a quick couple of notes:
    1) Allymate is on sale right now for Prime day ending today for 20% off!
    2) The grip will be available as soon as the injection mold is complete, which will take a couple more weeks. I can offer the 3D printed files earlier essentially because they have no manufacturing lead time!

    • @thegameksk
      @thegameksk ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you going to just sell the grip? I had someone 3d print the grip and if any weight is put on the back the grip doesn't stay attached to the Ally.

    I mounted mine lower than the vents. Since it's so low, I flip the kickstand upside-down and it works well. The power bank doesn't obstruct the vents as a result and I can us the power bank as a makeshift kickstand when it's mounted.

    For the battery bank, remember that anything taken on the plane can't be over 100wh, so the max would be around 25600 mah As far as i know.

    I use 3M brand Command Picture Hanging Strips that have velcro on one side and non-destructive adhesive on the other side. I adhere one strip directly on the Ally and another strip to a small USB-C dock then velcro the two together! Works like a charm and costs $3.19 for a pack of 14 sets. If the adhesive ever starts to weaken you can easily peel off the old strip and quickly apply a new one! Voila!! And the strips are rated for up to 16 lbs. So you could probably stick a battery to the back of the Ally using this method too.

  • @JsmashTech
    @JsmashTech ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Can also use the Vesa mount to mount the ally to the back of the monitor I believe like how people mount mini PCs to their monitors

    I just got the Skull & Co Rog Ally bundle, wow what a difference the grip makes and a nice hard shell case to boot. The grip also will sit on your desk at a slight angle, not as good as a kick stand but surprisingly steady. The grip could be a bit wide for some docks but it fits my ugreen steam deck dock perfectly.

  • @craigjoe8691
    @craigjoe8691 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Has the same problem as the steam deck version. The spring and locking mechanism is sub-par and it will pop off if bumped in a certain manner.

  • @shade20x64
    @shade20x64 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think I would prefer something like the NEWQ Steam Deck clip dock so that I can have the ports and a kickstand at the same time. Hopefully they make a version for the Ally.

    I have the same Anker battery pack and it is super convenient to have. It charges up my SD super quick it has plenty juice left after doing that. and it can charge itself quick too if you plug it to a 65w charger. It is the best investment for travelling with your portable handheld PC.

      @AGuerrero-cy2yr ปีที่แล้ว

      This would be better and it's what I do. If I'm sitting down I just put the battery bank next to me. This would just add weight and the cables would get in the way.

    • @nwsmith9
      @nwsmith9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you get a short cable that runs directly from the device to the battery with little slack, you retain the wireless feeling. It's still a handheld that you can move around easily.
      I have kids so I often have to set down what I'm playing to help them with something. Having it all in one self contained package is convenient for me.

    Maybe I am just the oddball here, but I see absolutely no reason to attach a batterypack to the Steam Deck or the ROG Ally. It weighs the device down, and I can't see a scenario where it would actually make sense. I find myself not walking around with the device outside, Especially since PC games are often better adapted for longer sit-down-and-play-sessions. So I end up using it while on the couch, office chair+desk, outdoor hammock or well, on the train. But in all of those cases I would just have the batterypack separated with a decently long usb-c cable instead. If I'm on the train there's usually 220V charging (Europe), but otherwise I have the battery pack in a backpack. That way I don't add any extra weight to the device. Can someone enlighten me in which scenarios you need to attach the battery pack to the device itself? 🤷‍♂
    I do see a lot of use for the deckMATE however, the kickstand is nice, as well as VESA/Wall-mounting, and due to the lack of IO on the device itself, (HDMI, USB etc) I could see the use of attaching small and light "docking station" as well. But none of those things will be weighing the device down.

    Good video with a lot of great info about the product. I am a little wary of applying something with that strong of an adhesive on the back of my Ally (it looks to be something like a 3M VHB tape adhesive, which is very strong but is a bear to remove) although with some dental floss and lots of careful labor I would think it could be removed if needed. Hopefully they will sell the grip version for folks who want to use their products but do not want to adhere things to the case.
