    YOu did a fine job on this. I use Seal-all on tank holes and maybe it'd work on that crack too. The tank on the new-ish Snapper 4 horse tank started leaking and the dimple under the pick up tube looked like a sieve. No ethanol gas ate the crud out in the dimple. Holes were all over so I got a fresh tube of Seal-all and poured a blob in there and waited. Should've put some duct tape on the bottom because some ran out BUT after it set up I put some more on top of the 1st and let it sit 24 hours or so. The next day it had a good skin on it so I filled it up with gas and went to work. I did the same thing on th 5 horse on the old splitter and it worked fine. JB Weld turned to rubber/plastic when the ethanol was started back in the gas but the Seal-all stayed right there. No leaks at all. Yellow tube with red lettering. Try it.You might like it. Thanks, Pal and pick me one!

      @@fnaguitarplayer9 I hope JB Weld has changed their formula since the ethanol started. I had a 5-horse wood splitter tank my buddy at the saw shop laid close to 1/2 inch of JB on the dimple where it was rusted through and it stayed put until the ethanol started back. I went in the shed to get it and smelled gas but I always smell gas so I drug the splitter out and started filling the tank up. Poured right out the bottom. The JB had turned to rubber or plastic, flexible anyway. I drained the tank and peeled off the JB. Came off in one big piece. Then just dropped a blob of Seal-all on the dimple and went to get some lunch/dinner. Came back and it'd skinned over so I laid the gas to it and went to work. Never leaked a drop from then on. the 4-horse looked like a piece of thin cloth with all the holes but nary a drop of gas through it now. It's good stuff. Just pile it in. It'll level itself out.

    Hey Frank, great video and I'm watching a few others. Don't know how to e-mail you but wondering if you have advice on replacing the fuel return part on this carb. I fumble finger broke the old one off. My guess is that it is there to keep a stream of return fuel from creating bubbles in the gas. I can't find a part for it....maybe 3/16 brake line would work but how to get it to stay in the carb? Thanks!

    Great video, my carb and tubes are slightly different (2HP Briggs) and my fuel tank is rusted right through and am unable to source a replacement where I live. Is the pickup tube length/depth in the tank very important or can I just run a fuel line to another tank mounted to it? Thanks!

    • @fnaguitarplayer9
      @fnaguitarplayer9  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Check on ebay, I've seen those tanks/carbs on there before. As long as it is close it would work, if its to deep on those since they don't have the 2nd chamber it would make it super hard to start and keep running without choke. Thanks for Watching!!!

    Hey frank, thx for all the helpful videos. I got a briggs 11hp 94 mtd model. I just replace the carburetor. Its flooding, gas spittin out of the air filter. What's the problem here? Is it an adjustment or something else? im puzzled what u think, what should i check?

    • @fnaguitarplayer9
      @fnaguitarplayer9  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your welcome, if its flooding/loading up with fuel when its not running, its usually a float or needle valve problem, if its flooding when trying to start/running, it may be out of adjustment, i have a video on how to adjust those (one piece flow jet carburetors). If it keeps spitting fuel out and not want to run, the valves could be out of adjustment, not allowing the intake valve to close/seal and letting compression out through the intake. If it has low or no compression then its probably that. Thanks for Watching!!!

    I'm thinking, a fuse, a safety feature or in the key switch. It was runner ng fine, then shut down. Now it's seems electrical some how. Again it don't mean Ben try to spin over. Ide first thought that with it having an oil censor that maybe low on oil. But nope. Oil is up to fill level. It just don't have no current for some reason. Mower has always been maintained to great health. Never abused. Older mower but still. It's a V-twin Kohlor.

    Should you be able to blow through the short pickup tube?
    What you need to make sure is open in the carb?
    I removed the adjusting jet. Do I need to remove the diaphram?

    • @fnaguitarplayer9
      @fnaguitarplayer9  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you should be able to blow through it even with the diaphragm is in it, unless the passage or jet is clogged. I'd suggest removing to clean but you will probably need another one, alot of times they tear, they are pretty cheap though. I always change them i never even try them anymore, its like a 80% chance they are bad haha Thanks for Watching!!!

    Hello, I have a 5jp Briggs, and the gasket that goes between the carb and the gas tank is leaking quite a lot. I bought the gasket from Briggs themself, and also made one from gasket paper. Is there something I should look at?

    • @fnaguitarplayer9
      @fnaguitarplayer9  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I always try to gently file the bottom of the carb flatter, it won't come in perfect but it helps and the tank itself has to be clean, and also try and find or make the gasket out of cork, they seam to seal better. Thanks for Watching!!!

So if i mount a fuel tank made for a bike can i just connect a hose to the pickup tube will the engine run ? Another great video. So if this longer tube is the fuel pickup, what is the other tube for ? I thought it might be the excess return, but it also has a screen on the bottom.

    • @fnaguitarplayer9
      @fnaguitarplayer9  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have another video on how these work, but the long tube picks up fuel from the tank, then it gets pumped into a small chamber that over flows back into the tank, the short tube sets down in this chamber, it makes the engine easier to start, without it, it would have to pump fuel all the way from the bottom of the tank to the carb, the early vacu jet carbs were like this. Watch my other video on this and it should make sense then. Thanks for Watching!!!

    • @ScottMiller-tu3gg
      @ScottMiller-tu3gg 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@fnaguitarplayer9 The other tube is not to make it easier to start, it is the pickup tube for the main jet and it draws fuel from the bowl that is built into the gas tank. Without that tube the engine will not run at all!

    • @fnaguitarplayer9
      @fnaguitarplayer9  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ScottMiller-tu3gg What i meant is, IF it was designed without the 2nd tube/chamber, it would have one long tube from the bottom of the tank to the carb, so it would be harder to start IF it was designed that way is what i meant. Alot of the early 50's cast iron briggs were made that way and they were harder to start and would lean out as the fuel level dropped. thanks for watching!

    • @drewfullname7930
      @drewfullname7930 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Another small variation here. My set up is the same for the longer tube but there is a molded stub extending down from the carb body that has a small orifice in the side of that stub which then picks up fuel from the built-in 'bowl' of the tank itself.

  • @johnstrange6799
    @johnstrange6799 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    You can put the fuel pipe in a vise and wedge the carb off with two screw drivers too, and use a nut driver on the pick up tube, but the whole cat can be skinned any number of ways. :)

    If anyone still cares...I found a few ways to solve my problem. The good news is that the hole is threaded so no fancy press-fit or special way to have to fasten it. I wound up "grinding" the end of the old one down to fit into the threaded hole. If that didn't work I was going to look for a brass screw that would fit, drill a hole down the center and then use it as an adapter to take a piece of tubing. Drilling the hole would take a steady hand, some luck and maybe a few tries. I also took some pens apart and found some polyethylene ink reservoirs that would form themselves into the threads. Lucky because I couldn't find a replacement part.

      I've never had to do this but have seen a video on it, but in the middle of tank, its actually a seem, the tank can be taken apart if you bend the metal out all the way around, then you can get to the inside to fix that and clean up any rust/corrosion. I imagine it being a real pain to do but its really the only way. Some people have JB welded around them when they start getting pin holes in them. Or you can get a new tank for about 100 bucks!
