I'm thinking of buying an ASUS TUF A17 with an HDMI port and a Type C USB 3.2 Gen 2 (supports Display Port 1.4) and I was wondering if I was going to be able to connect two screens to this computer directly and have a dual extended desktop

Hi, great video thanks! My laptop has a hdmi and usb-c output. The usb-c is not thunderbolt however. So with one monitor connected directly by hdmi, will a usb-c to hdmi adapter work for the second monitor?

@Vids Tube Hi, I am a power user. I run my work issued laptop for 8 or 12 hours a day. As a work laptop im on a network which is sheilded meaning I cannot install drivers or software. I already have a 24 inch monitor attached through the hdmi port. I would love to attach a second monitor and maybe have a large two screen set up or use all three. Your great video does not mention having to install drivers. Does the fact I have HDMI already installed mean it will detect the installed drivers automatically please or is there still a requirement to download them?

Very helpful video. Is it possible to use this setup with laptop closed (with wireless keyboard and mouse)? I'm able to operate my Mac laptop with additional a separate monitor, wireless keyboard and tracking pad with the Mac laptop closed. I'd like to do the same with my windows PC so that it takes up less space on my desk.

Exactly what I do. In Windows power setup , set option to do nothing when lid is closed. I have external keyboard, and dual monitors.
Hi bro, I have a few questions. I am not a techie. Can you list down a few points that I should tick to achieve the following using a Type-c port. Until I saw your video I didn't realise that USB 3.0 ports can project videos. You can also probably make a separate video to clarify all small points like these.
1. what should we look for when choosing a hub with type-c port to make sure I can project 4k videos to the monitor?
2. Are there monitors with usb-3.0 ports or type-c ports (like viewsonic) which we can connect directly using usb-3 or type-c cable.
3. Can all type-c ports / USB 3.0 are capable to project 4K, what should we look for when we check the specs.
4. I have come across a few from UGREEN brand, but was not very confident how to select these. I prefer to have one HDMI or DP port, at least 2 usb-c and 2 USB 3.0 and a SD card slot.
5. If we have just USB 3.0 port on the hub and if we connect type-c converter to it - will the video output be downgraded compared to taking directly from a type-c out? Also I see you connecting a USB 3 to hdmi converter, will this be downgraded coming out of USB 3 compared to directly taking out from hdmi port? Are there any spec that we should look for while considering all these?

Thanks for watching and comment. 1) for 4k video with audio output the hub must have display port or hdmi, dvi and vga not good. For connecting to one monitor with hdmi and with another monitor with an usb-c to displayport there is no problem i supose no? Or it has to be same type of connection getting off the laptop? Thanks for answering my last question so fast!

Also if the cable you use to connect monitor to laptop is not 4k enabled it can happen or it can be a power supply to monitor or laptop issues.

Hello, I have a Prostar nh58rdq laptop with USB-C and bought a Tiergrade Laptop Docking Station, 16-in-1 Triple Display USB C Hub for Windows. It won't show anything on the display and the instructions say it may be because the laptop doesn't have Thunderbolt 3? I don't understand because the amazon instructions say Thunderbolt 3 OR USB-C with display port capabilities. My laptop specs shows "DisplayPort 1.3 over USB 3.1 Gen 2 (Type-C)". Shouldn't this work? Do you recommend a docking station where I can run 2 additional monitors, usb, ethernet, etc.?

Thanks for your informative video and great to see the result with such small devices. I was a long time mac user and swith now to Huawei matebook13inch as I prefer a smaller unit. Now I try to connect a IIyama Prolite XB2472HD screen through HDMI via an Fitfort adapter which has HDMI as well. It doesn´t do anything. I also tried the windows p function and shows me the different options but nothing happens. Why :) I need to work with windows as well first Lol.

I have a Lenovo Y520 laptop, an HP G5 USB-C docking station. I wish to connect 2 Samsung monitors to the laptop through my docking station. So I plugged the monitors into the docking station, and then with one cable I want to connect it to my laptop. Since my laptop doesn't have a USB-C, I bought a USB-C to USB 3.1 adapter. However when I plug it in, nothing happens, the monitors aren't shared.
I also have a Lenovo Thinkpad T590, it has USB-C port (for charging), it works with that one. Do you have any idea what the problem might be? Thank you!

If your laptop has hdmi 1st monitor should always go though that. My usb-c port adapter wasn't working yesterday with the second monitor I purchased since my ASUS vivobook only has 1 hdmi input. I have 2 monitors like you but only one of them works for my laptop. I ordered a usb-c hub - ( docking station ) , ( dual monitor 9 in 1 combo ) I really hope it works when it comes in from Amazon. My question is how to connect these monitors to my laptop in order to have 3 separate displays one of them being the laptop. In other words, I want to be able to have 3 work areas. ie. Are you worried about the USB-c hub bottlenecking resolution and refresh rate to your dual monitors?

I was using your video to create a similar setup with 3 monitors using a USB-C hub. It appears that the recent update that Microsoft loaded via Software Update, 10.0.1904, no longer recognizes the the HDMI displays connected via the hub. Have you seen this?

My laptop has an HDMI port so I’ve plugged one of my cables into that to create the first display. I bought a USB C hub so that I could plug the second HDMI into that for the second display. However my laptop doesn’t have a USB C port so I bought a USB C to USB to compromise this. The problem is when plugging the HDMI cable into the hub and monitor it doesn’t seem to detect the monitor? At first I thought the hub was broken but that doesn’t seem to be the case as when I plug my keyboard into the hub it works fine. Sorry for long winded comment but could really use some help on what I’m doing wrong if it all? Thanks. Informative video none the less.

I have done a separate video for your situation check it out th-cam.com/video/1wIozlKhoXg/w-d-xo.html Also check out this setting video th-cam.com/video/iPAPRmvCYe4/w-d-xo.html I think what's happened is the USB C hub is not capable of having a dual display so what you need is USB to hdmi cable as shown in the video to have a dual diaplay and if you need more USB's you can get a USB to x 4 usb & then plug that usb to hdmi in one of the usb & in the others you can connect your keyboard etc. Watch the videos & hopefully it will make sense. @@vidstube Hello, so my USB to HDMI came today and I plugged it in and installed the drivers it asked me to do. Restarted my laptop and then attempted to plug one monitor into that usb to hdmi as a test. Unfortunately, the monitor is still not being recognised and just going into sleep mode once I plug it in. Any ideas on what still could be wrong? I'm sure my laptop must be capable of dual monitor display as it is relatively new and quite powerful
Hmm thats strange. I dont think so its your laptop most laptop are able to done one or two monitor for sure may be not at the best resolution. It could be your monitor or cable. @@vidstube Watched your setting video and still no luck :( I cannot change any settings in that video as the laptop is not detecting the monitor in the first place. It is a very bizarre situation. I am using the same USB to HDMI you recommended from Amazon and both of my monitors are HP 27". As I said one monitor works fine but the issue is getting the second monitor to be detected. :(

Hello I have a question I have an hpzbook 15 g6 which has usb c thunderbolt 3 and i recently bought a asus tuf gaming monitor 24 inches 144hz do i have to buy a docking station or can i just buy a dongle ? will either be compatible and will i actually be able to play 144hz?
Thanks for watching and comment. A USB 3.1 can go up to 5 GBps A USB 3.1 GEN two can go to 10 and a thunderbolt can go to 40. Thunderbolt 3 has enough bandwidth to support multiple 4K video connections with higher refresh rate, with enough bandwidth remaining for USB 3.1 data too. So typically a laptop with a thunderbolt type connection will be the best for higher Hz display but if you have a USB 3.1 GEN 2 it has specific lanes dedicated for a display port at higher Hz output. So for a 144 Hz output you have to have a display port connection versus an HDMI. Hope this makes sense. No matter what cable, adapter or dongal you go go with display port or thunderbolt connecting for higher refresh rate monitor. Hope this helps. Hi! I have a very similar laptop and an identical asus adapter. I know how to connect everything but my laptop does not charge through that adapter. It will only charge with the cord plugged directly into it making it so I cannot add monitors or anything to the port if I want it to charge. Any ideas or suggestions? @vids tube

Hi, i have a laptop with 60hz monitor and i want to buy a 144hz monitor the problem is my laptop dont have a DP input and the HDMI input is 1.4 But it have USB type C soo if i get a caple with DisplayPort male and USB c male and connect the usb c to laptop and the DP to monitor can i get 144hz ? For 1080p 144Hz you will need an HDMI 1.3 or higher, a Dual-Link DVI, or a DisplayPort while 1440p 144Hz requires either an HDMI 2.0 or a DisplayPort 1.2. with the cable you mentioned I think it should work. Hello I know I'm a bit late but I bought a similar Usb c to HDMI adapter for my laptop. For my main monitor I am using the HDMI port on my laptop and I plugged that in to my main display and everything works fine on that screen but then I plugged in my adapter to my usb c port on my laptop and the second monitor says no signal and will not connect. I tried various methods to fix this such as updating my graphics drivers rebooting my laptop and unplugging my monitor but nothing is working please respond as soon as possible thanks :)

Hey man, it's a great video and I have returned to this video multiple times in recent times to clear out things. However, I also wanted to ask something. I want to add an additional monitor to my laptop for that extra screen real state, but I don't want to use the HDMI port on my laptop because of cable management issues. I want just one docking station for my laptop which would connect my printer, scanner, keyboard mouse, flash drive and also my monitor. There are many amazing inexpensive and expensive USB type c hubs available on amazon which would easily do that job. But the problem is that the type c port on my laptop does not support video output. So I wanted to ask that if I happen to buy one such hub, would it do the job? And if not, would I be able to connect the monitor using USB to HDMI adaptor but without connecting any screen with the HDMI output first? I just want to connect one screen, not two or three. Is it possible to perhaps display via hdmi port and usb c port via laptop? To hook up to two monitors without accessories?
Or rather display via hdmi port and use a usb c to hdmi cord as well at the same time to another monitor but from one laptop
