I know the estimated range is an estimate under ideal driving conditions; the same holds true for ICE vehicles. What does your Tesla cost monthly, and what does MPIC charge you for auto insurance for the car? Does your range change when you use things like climate control in the car? I have seen a few other EVs where using AC will deplete range. How is your winter range affected? Is your Tesla the one with the heat pump that keeps the battery warm? I am told that helps with the loss in range in winter. I was born in Manitoba and have seen terrible weather, which I have slugged through and driven. I was in university during the 1986 winter storm, which shut down Winnipeg, and if it had not been for my truck, I would not have made it through that.
Good video man. I remember driving Saskatoon to Winnipeg on a single tank in my TDI and still had enough fuel to make it back to Carberry! But hey, 80% of travel is in the city. Road trips are typically rare. EV's have their place for most people. We're the extreme in Canada.
Wow to make a 600 mile round trip you would have to leave a day sooner if not more compared to a gas vehicle. I think people forget it takes several hours to charge a low battery, and at max 10 min to fill up a gas tank.
You can watch Bjorn Nyland ... Tesla 3 LR - 1000km (621 miles) done in 9:25. Same run in ICE car was 9 hours , but that was after substracting 25 minute food brake. If you do 1000km runs daily, probably stay with ICE, but most people drive 30km daily and there EVs beat ICE in everything - no noise, cheaper, less maintenance, less vibrations, no smog, no refueling, instant heat ...
@@MrVolodus I do not think they will stay cheaper to run just because governments secure taxes based on fuel, and there has already been speculation around leveraging a mileage tax on travel. So, in time, electrical costs will rise to offset the heavier EVs on the road. I've been watching a channel out of Britain, and the presenter is paying $58 GB for a charge on the main roadway. Britain in certain areas charges an EV cost more than filling up with petrol.
Are you encouraged to have the battery down to about 10% before recharging? Is there any disadvantage to the practice of charging it when it's down to 40-50%?
If it's -30 C outside, does the Tesla know that and automatically calculate the range based on the 1-temperature/battery capacity loss in cold weather, and 2-heating for comfort of 21 degrees C? And if it's +30 C outside, how well does the battery cope in that heat, and how much loss of range do you get if your air conditioning is set to maintain 21 degrees C ?
Hey man! I’m in TBay and looking to get a Tesla. But I don’t know if anywhere here services Teslas. I can’t find anything online. Do you know anything? Thanks!
You can see the conditions of the chargers in real-time on your screen. The Tesla won’t navigate to the broken supercharger. This is a problem you face with other EVs unfortunately
Hi I have same 2020 Tesla model 3 and drove around 18000 kms . May I know how much is your EPA range at 90 percent and 100 percent now . It shows 320 kms for me at 90 % just after two years and only driving 18000 kms . It suppose to be 402 kms at 100 percent
Thanks for putting together this great video! I am looking at picking up my M3SR+ this winter in Saskatoon. Do you think I will have an issue doing this drive in the Winter?
Make sure you have the guys in the Saskatoon charge your Tesla up to 90% when getting the delivery. Also try for Calgary instead of Saskatoon as you’ll have to pay taxes there where in Calgary you don’t. Talk with your Tesla sales advisor and confirm this information. And if you have any more questions, feel free to dm me in Instagram
@@teslapeg Great videos man. I have been watching few of your road trip vlogs. How would you rate the sound system on SR+? i mean not comparing to the LR which has the premium sound but by it self whats your honest opinion. You seem like audio kind of a guy. Lol. Thanks
I brought my 2021 m3 sr+ from Saskatoon to Winnipeg in March with no problems. Paid tax in Wpg. with insurance before I left. Also drove Wpg. to Ottawa and back in August again no problems.
You should NOT be eating a salad or anything that requires two hands while driving even on autopilot. This where you could hurt yourself or others in case of a blow out or other things. Very good video.
Usually I follow behind a truck or a car when I put that much trust into autopilot. So if anything were to happen, the car would react based on the car in front of me. But I do agree I shouldn’t be using two hands.
@@teslapeg yeah i was surprised Saskatoon of all places got theirs before us. They are pretty out of the way when it comes to a cross Canada trip!! If I were to order in the next few months I assume Saskatoon would be the pick up location?

Bro, I'm so fascinated by Tesla's and planning to buy a Tesla model 3 while being an International student in Canada. So I would like to know what's the insurance for Tesla Model 3
Hey man, great videos. I’m in Moose Jaw (about 65k from Regina) and have model Y ordered. I don’t have a garage so will park in driveway and charge. But I’m worried about those -30 and -40 C days.
Yes I use the Moose Jaw charger very often when I pass through. Glad you liked the video. As for your situation, I would say a 110v would suffice but you need a 240v outlet before winter arrives
Great video and the honesty on range! The range is quite dissapointing which was surprising. I thought the range would only be reduced during cold weather temps but to see that you can only get 150-250km realistically on a 90% charge even in warmer temps and highway driving is really low in my opinion. If you have to add 2 extra hrs for an 800km trip compared to an ice car is significant. I feel ev's are only practical for people who drive 100km or less a day. Anything more then that not very practical
Well honestly speaking, it took me the same amount of time in my gas car as well. I stopped for gas and bathroom breaks every 150-250 kms anyway. You definitely need a little break after driving 2-3 hours
@@teslapeg I guess thats true. people are different in terms of how many breaks they need on a road trip. If your a person that stops ever 1-2 hours on a road trip anyways regardless of ice or ev it wont make much of a difference in time. The range is still a bit dissapointing though in my opinion. I understood that range is decreased in colder temps but i thought you would get close to epa in warmer temps but i guess thats not true if your doing mostly highway driving in the 120-130km range. Thanks again for the video :)
Thanks for watching! Keep in mind, you do get the EPA range and sometimes more in the city in the summer. Also I did a winter test as well! Thankfully range does not go down a lot in the highway in winter
It's never gonna be the same for everyone, but it seems like Tesla's quoted range is genuinely achievable for some, enough that they can justify quoting those figures.
@@teslapeg This is where EVs are viable and make sense. Although I can't afford one and will have to take transit. Did Winnipeg get light rail yet? Are you encouraged to have the battery down to about 10% before recharging? Is there any disadvantage to the practice of charging it when it's down to 40-50%?
Good question! It's encouraged actually. No disadvantage. Teslas asks to plug in your vehicle when not in use if possible
A lot of people like to pull into a super charger with very low percentage left because the battery will charge faster.

Also most gas stations on the highway have chargers now
True. But unfortunately most of them are not 24/7 like the Tesla superchargers

If you use your mobile charger, are there any concerns about someone stealing it? Or is there some kind of anti-theft protection?
No one can steal it. There is a lock that will unlock when you unlock your vehicle or do it from the mobile app
