I can't believe Cap did an entire mid-air refuel without once using the word "giggity" . . .
I was looking forward to it.

I like how the F22 has a massive attitude indicator taking up most of the HUD and Cap still somehow got disoriented and dove straight down lol 🤦

@@xpk0228the problem was he was talking and not paying attention to his HUD. The Raptors not going to stall out, he literally talks about that the video. It has enough power to continually fly straight up until it reaches almost 50,000 ft. What happened was he just kept pulling
lol yes I'm not going to live that one down am I?
The F-22 is undergoing another major upgrade now that will include an IRST, new ECM and an updated radar. Also will get stealthy fuel tanks.
And french anti ship missiles... obviously

Nice video. You have come a long way since the days when a group take off always resulted in the loss of 1/3 of the planes. Further, the discipline and teamwork is now top notch. This is actually much more fun to look at than the old times undisciplined fur ball dog fights.
Nah some of those old videos are pretty damn hilarious and fun to watch

The F117 getting shot down was a mixture of complacency, espionage and the SAM operator taking a risk. The US runway was being watched by informants who were taking note of what was taking off and when, on this particular night they noticed that the F117s had gone in without wild weasel cover. The US had been using the same approach route to the target which had been fine because the F117s were almost impossible to target and when accompanied by jets armed with anti radar missiles it was a fools errand to switch on the radars for more than 2 quick scans as they'd soon be on the receiving end of some retribution. The SAM operator knew the F117s were coming and tried to scan for them twice but got nothing, however having prior knowledge that they didn't have an escort he risked a third scan and managed to paint the F117 as its bomb bay doors opened and got a lock. While he did manage to shoot the F117 down it was ultimately pointless as the bomber had already delivered its payload onto a command centre
"Pointless"? Are you serious? That was probably the one shootdown that has had the longest and widest ranging consequences in world history, besides Gary Powers getting shot down in 1960 over the USSR in his U2. The wreckage of that F117 ended up in the Chinese embassy and the tech was reverse engineered and is the basis of China's entire stealth program. It also wrecked the 'invincible' reputation of stealth and provided a massive boost to morale. "pointless" ......geez.
@@VincentNajger1 it was shot down after releasing its payload, it completed its mission. It only ruined the invincible reputation amongst those who don't understand the realities of combat. The point remains that even though they knew when and where it was coming from they still couldn't get a lock until after it had done what it came to do. The tech might have been pawned off to China but all that meant was they were in possession of incomplete 20 year old technology that they'd have to spend another 5-10 years figuring out before applying to their own equipment. There's a reason why the US holds a monopoly on modern stealth aircraft, they got an unassailable head start and everyone else is still playing catchup.
My understanding is that it was not complacency as much as it was political constraints that did not allow them to fly over certain airspace, thus restraining them into certain flight profiles

TBH this mission is quite stupid. You deliberlty put all the sams away from the plant and made your self and easy route. I mean you are telling it is a vey important plant but with no form of on-site protection:))) In a more realistic scenario the sams should be place densly around the plant and you would need to first perform SEAD/DEAD, then there needs to be CIWS and ECM on the site (such as Tor, Majid, Krasukha 4) so you can not use GPS guided bombs that easily.
It’s not that serious
To quote a famous Sportscaster: "They. Could. Go. All. The. Way!"
Loved the daisy chain tactic, fun to watch!
the team did really well pulling it off.
A nice little in, hit the enrichment plant, and out with a side of unplanned proportionality.
Both F-22 and B-21 Raider are essentials for next generations of air combat.

Would love to participate in one of your wargames, I can refuel and am comfortable with all things Raptor. In your Discord as well, how can one get involved?
Well if you're a donator they frequently have donator missions

My Therapist has a Flight License, and at least in the US, one of the tests for that is flying entirely by instruments. If you use the windows you fail. The instructor/proctor is the co-pilot, so they can take over if you flub. But you have to be able to fly blind to fly legally, at least in this jurisdiction.
Also pretty sure your HUD let you know you were upsidedown and falling while you were lost in those clouds.
Great to watch mission!

I'm now waiting for the air-to-air mission using Exocets. How big is the warhead on one of those things again?
Massive!
Hypersonic is just the arms race the public is allowed to see. The real competition behind the scenes is to see what other things you can use anti-shipping missiles against.
Stu is a clever goose. I like everything about this.
I think a lot of the problems the Grim Reapers have is that they like to fly to close in formation (parade) and it's making your radar cross section way to big. I think spreading out at least 5 km or more from each other when flying stealth aircraft. I wrote this as you just said it doesn't matter in DCS. Lol
Thank you for reading the word "anyways" as "anyway". I fkn HATE it when people say "anyways".
Uh, so, anyways..

@ Cap, I understand your views of flying in cloud. I served in the RAF between 1986 and 2013 and in the mid 90s I was part of a security detail flying on a VC10 cargo aircraft which had to be refueled in flight. We were in full cloud and peering out of the fuselage windows looking for the refueller when out of the gloom emerged a Tristar tanker on our starboard wingtip, also in full cloud. Needless to say all went well, but to see two large aircraft in formation at that range in cloud was somewhat concerning for those of us who didn't fly.

Very well played gentlemen, impressed. Love your videos, can't wait to start finishing up all my crap I've bought to get into dcs, all the furniture and chair, etc etc makes it slow going, I'm not even going to say how much I've spent TOTAL on equipment and planes and etc and haven't even fired up my new PC yet, wanna get it all together first, I've got a blown back and knees so it's taking me ages to go and finish this chair and stand I got for it, not even sure if they'll be compatible yet haha, but I've got a lot of learning to do to be hopefully invited to an open game sometime, I run servers for a living (Linux variants) so it's kinda fun, I'd imagine these bigger games eat up cpu and memory like crazy but I'm gonna see how bad when I start my own just to toy around and see if a sizable vps works or if it'll need a dedicated server. I'm thinking the dedicated for big games but it is what it is!
I'm running a fairly middle of the ground gaming desktop, it was top-of-the-line a year and a half ago when I bought it. But it flies these missions very easily
Now when they're running these big ones they're all on a dedicated server. But as a individual DCS player she don't need that at all unless you're wanting to host you know 10 or 20 people
Awesome, glad to hear you're able to play with a not so top of the line computer, even though I went a little crazy on it I didn't buy the highest end at all, so cool deal.
And yeah, kinda figured it'd require an actual dedicated server vs a vps for instance, thanks for the info.
You guys should use autopilot next time in the name of less blood pressure during formation flight :D

According to my dad [who spent many decades in the middle east]; They pretty much all hate all of their neighbors, but its usually a tribal thing, not nationality (as the national borders do not represent the tribal lands AT ALL).
But, they're usually happy to try to put that aside because they hate Israel and/or America much, much more.
Isn't it nice here in the western world where I (in England) only 'hate' the French and the Scotts as a [now] friendly rivalry.
Things have changed a lot in the Middle East in the past 10 years. Especially after the Abraham accords. In fact I believe it was Jordan and Saudi Arabia who shot down the majority of those missiles that Iran fired at Israel. Times are changing. Which is a reason Hamas launched their attack because they were afraid that Saudi Arabia was going to normalize relations with Israel which they're pretty close to doing already
What an absolute nightmare.
I recommend listening to episode 105 of 'The Red Line'. It is an excellent international security podcast, and that particular episode focuses on Iran; interviewing a number of subject matter experts. One of the most significant take-aways, is that the Iranian people by and large are far more progressive and cosmopolitan than their government would suggest, at least in urban regions. However, they are also generally patriotic. One of the analysts on that episode suggested that the revolution would likely have collapsed if not for their war with Iraq, given the regime's extensive unpopularity and the raft of crisis they were undergoing, and furthermore, that an outside force attacking it likely result in a similar outcome of propping up the struggling regime.

9:13 There is a plaque in my school and a cross made of shell casings in my church dedicated to a student who’s helicopter crashed in bad weather in Afghanistan. I believe that is the correct story, but yes, clouds are dangerous
In what sense could friendly/unfriendly commercial aviation be used as an early warning system by a defending country and its allies? I guess stealth missions would always happen at night and at altitudes very different from typical commercial aviation, but I guess it can't be entirely forgotten about in the planning of such missions?
Well commercial aircraft don't carry the type of Radars to detect other aircraft. They have tcas systems or Tcan can't remember, which is a proximity alert. But no commercial aircraft can't be used as an early warning unless they were actually able to visualize the aircraft. And at night time that's not going to happen because stealth aircraft especially bombers fly way higher than commercial aircraft
Perfidious Albion.
Cap, I know you are always concerned about us not being entertained by night missions but we do like the atmosphere of other times of day. Dusk and night time raids have a different vibe. Plus seeing the tracers coming out of the jungle to get the B-52s was cool.
*_"Make sure you got your radars off guys, we're doing a stealth mission, remember."_*

If i remember SA is the voice of the middle east for Iran proxies and their relationship with Jordan isn't as bad.
Jordan helped to intercept some of the Iranian drones & cruise missiles in the recent attack on Israel… I believe Saudi did too. Not sure what you mean by “voice of the Middle East for Iran proxies” but Saudi was the main (external) force opposing Yemen’s Houthi rebels until 2021 or so. Iran proxies being Shia Muslims and SA essentially leading the Sunni Muslim world, theirs is a cool relationship at best, each jockeying for influence.
The F-22 is so badass
This would make a great Tom Clancy chapter!
I've been to the Iraqi enrichment site. There's a village in the crater (for lack of a better term) now.
Are B-2's not usually flown at night when there is active SAM defenses?
Very curious about that story of you flying into IMC with an instructor on board. They shouldn't have allowed that to even come close to happening. Mine would get jumpy if I came within a few meters of a tiny wispy translucent one on a sunny day.
I do not know how you would pull it off -- or even if you could -- but it would be great if you could do some kind of crossover video with the character _"Grandpa Buff"_ from the *HABITUAL LINECROSSER* TH-cam Channel.
I come to think of a thing, if this were to be real, imagine beeing the boom operator looking out at 7 raptors in formation to fuel. Id feel mighty safe!

Great mission again! Feels like a cheat code. LOL
Ahhh, all the way and back home again🤣
I have a question. How do SEAD mission missiles detect and hone-in on the enemy radar?
Do they have many antennas of different lengths for different bands?
I wonder if they use a simple technique used by amateur Arduino hobbyists to calculate the angel of solar panel array relative to the Sun?!
Where a plastic divider the shape of a "+" has a photo resistor in each quadrant and shielded from its neighbors.
When they are looking directly at the Sun, all four receive the same amount of light. Otherwise, they won't, because one quadrant is not getting the same amount of light as others.
By reading the analog values, the position of the Sun relative to the sensors can be calculated easily.
Could it be that simple of a technique for detecting the direction of radar emissions?
They detect the waves passively. They are called anti radiation also.
@@BouncingZeus Well of course they detect it passively!
@@piconanothe anti-radiation missile, have microprocessors and such and they lock onto the enemy radar from information downloaded from the aircraft. Now if they turn off that radar, the missile remembers where it was coming from and will fly to that spot. That's why once they've detected you it's very difficult to not get hit even if you turn your radar back off
^^
