Hi, thank you for your video. I am equipped with the Sony ECM-W3 and I have absolutely not once had the problem that you show on the screen. I just did a test at 150-160m (just after commenting on your video on the 17-50mm vs 20-70mm) and I have absolutely no problems with my ZV-E1. On the other hand, I returned my two copies of the DJI mic 2 because they gave me a different level of sound depending on the microphones for my improvised acoustic recordings. In addition, when you put a cage with the ZV-E1, you cannot put the DJI receiver on the ZV-E1 with the Sony multimedia dongle, whereas this is the case with the Sony ECM-W3. I find your title exaggerated and I would have preferred that you contacted Sony to check where the problem was coming from, which is what I did with DJI. And I had commented on it on other videos and forums. 🤔
Great video Jake! I had some not so great experiences with older Sony wireless mics. I loved how they worked seamlessly with the hot shoe but weren't reliable overall. So cool that DJI offers that now. I wish they would make that for other camera systems too!
Thanks for commenting on Sony‘s product despite possible implications for future partnership. it goes along way and speaks of your dependability! (of course I’ve been watching you for years, but probably will be parting ways with mirrorless cameras and going to RED)
I'm so stoked on the DJI Mic 2 system with the adapter. It sounds so good too. The adapter was the reason why I bought the Mic 2 system haha. I love having the ability to record to them at the same time, but I sure wish there was timecode support. Great video as always!
I have the ecm mic with one pair from a few years back. Didn't had that much issues, but I'm definitely interested now in the DJI Mic2 now it's possible to hot mic it. The lack of that really kept me back of buying DJI Mic or Rode for that matter.
agreed, I am so glad to see another option for the multi interface shoe on sony cameras now

Good to know, I’m looking for a wireless mic solution for my Sony a74 and I’m happy to see this review from a person that actually used Sony microphone in real word scenario.
I’ve just ordered the Sony ECM M1!! Waiting for that heat to drop .si also have the Dji Mic 1 and for now it’s just good to go . No need for me to upgrade to Mic 2
I have the ECM-W3, which excels in audio quality due to its minimal electromagnetic noise. This isn't a major issue in louder environments but can be problematic in quiet settings. Additionally, Sony is traditionally one of the three major companies dealing with wireless microphones (along with Sennheiser and Shure). Therefore, in terms of microphone performance, Sony is ahead of DJI and Rode, despite their appearances. Nonetheless, I also recommend the DJI Mic 2, especially since it supports internal recording and feels like a premium purchase. Notably, DJI Mic 2 is one of the first instances where Sony has shared their standards externally, a trend I hope continues.
Jake, thanks for making this video. I, too, was not excited after seeing the DJI MIC 2. But when the shoe mount came out, it was a game changer. This, of course, just after I bought a Sennheiser AVX lav. Have a great day! Enjoy the summer. 😀
If anyone buys the adapter make sure you do the update to the rx/tx, if you don't it's glitchy. After the update mine has worked perfect and has made the DJI Mic 2's my go to. (although I prefer the sound of the wireless pros from Rode, the ease of use on the DJI's can't be beat)
@@JakeSloan Is it because it's a 2.4GHz system? That would allow the Rode wireless mic as well as the Bluetooth of the Tentacle Sync to have wireless transmission... but they don't. Perhaps it's because the patent doesn't take into account a digital connection to the camera?
Hi :) Great video! Cna the DJI Mic 2 receiver receives power via the MI shoe on compatible cameras from Sony? Or do you still have to charge the receiver in the DJI charging box? :) And did you try to have your Sony ECM W3 mic mounted on yur shoulder to have better signal when you have your back to the camera? I need to by DJI Mic 2 or Sony ECM. But for me the batterylife is important. And off course how the signal is with the back to the camera on distance up to about 10 meters from the camera :)
Great job on the video Jake! Thanks for making it. As soon as they get some pro transmitters that allow for screwing in the locking lavaliers, I will definitely pick these up over the Rode.
when i playback the video I cannot hear it from the receiver with a 3.5mm headset. i can monitor the audio no problem. but when playing back i have to connect to the camera's headphone jack. is this normal?
At 2:30, I noticed the transmitter gain was set to +6, using the internal mic. The receiver output level doesn't do anything with the adapter in use. Did the resulting level have to be increased even more in post?
I'm jazzed. Not because I intend to buy something like this but it means someone other than Sony COULD make a much smaller stereo X/Y MI Shoe mic. I like stereo but the current options do not allow me to balance my FX3 on the Crane M3S. Too tall. Go on Rode, reverse engineer that shoe 😍
I use my FX3 on a gimbal a lot and I also use wireless duo mics with it. The problem with the FX3 is that plugging in duo mics directly into the camera creates a humming noise. Sony likely wont ever fix this issue on their fx3. And i can't attach the XLR top handle because it gets in the way of the gimbal rotation. For sure Im going to pick up this DJI Mic 2 with the Mi Adapter so that I can still have duo mics without the humming noise. Thank goodness DJI listened to their fans and taken their feedbacks seriously to create this adapter. As for Sony, they need to get their act together. Hopefully the W3 version 2 will have better range and a harder case because these mics are not cheap.
It really looks like Sony's issues across wide range of products, wf-1000xm5 earphones also has this issue. Even worse left can have this issue right don't, than vice versa 1-3m from base and source.
Has anyone experienced interference w the DJI M2 in a crowded environment? I know it has an internal mic of 32 but but I like to know if there’s interference 😊

I'm glad you've had a better experience than I have

I hope DJI figures out how to make this for canon, Lumix, fuji etc. that would be absolutely amazing

You’re welcome

The Sony m1 is absolutely fantastic! I use that most of the time

Wish the digital hot shoe would come to other camera brands, especially Panasonic. In perfect world, it would become a camera standard. Thanks.
me too!!

This is cool - I already have a Rode Wireless Pro, but the adapter might be worth the change over to the DJI Mic 2.
Yeah it was enough to push me over to the DJI mic 2

I bought the DJI Mic 2 combo and I love it! Let's hope DJI keeps making these amazing products!
NICE
Yikes!! Range is a big deal. Thanks for review!
100% agree
I like the honesty. Great video.
I appreciate that!
Hang on @3:00 you're saying the "backup recording" is happening while it's transmitting? So, DJI found a way to get past that pesky patent?
Yeah because this is a 2.4ghz wireless system that patent doesn’t apply. It applies to UHF systems
@@JakeSloan Is it because it's a 2.4GHz system? That would allow the Rode wireless mic as well as the Bluetooth of the Tentacle Sync to have wireless transmission... but they don't. Perhaps it's because the patent doesn't take into account a digital connection to the camera?

it does but only enough to keep the receiver powered it doesn't charge the unit up. in your use case I would definitely go for the DJI mic 2 setup
@@JakeSloan thank you so much for fast reply ☺️

Thanks and I really hope DJI puts those on the DJI mic 3
Switch the audio of the camera from 16bit 2Ch to 24bit 2Ch to have 24-bit baked into your video file.
👍🏻

yes that is normal
At 2:30, I noticed the transmitter gain was set to +6, using the internal mic. The receiver output level doesn't do anything with the adapter in use. Did the resulting level have to be increased even more in post?
No I compress lightly in post but that’s where the level needed to be to get my audio to where I want it for post work.
I'm jazzed. Not because I intend to buy something like this but it means someone other than Sony COULD make a much smaller

dang but good to know!
I have the DJI Mic2 that came with the DJI Pocket 3 creator combo. Would this work with the DJI Mic 2 MI Shoe Camera Adapter?
I was in the same boat. You will still need to buy the mic 2 receiver and single mic combo plus this adapter.
@Jake Sloan what's your impressions of the new Xperia 1 VI phone camera Sir?
I haven't used it
Iam from India which one best
1. Sony ECM W3
2. DJi Mic 2
thats exactly what this video is about, watch it
Is it because you're using wireless video transmission at the same time so that the Sony's signal is so poor?
nope I used it MANY times without anything else and it still had issues
It really looks like Sony's issues across wide range of products, wf-1000xm5 earphones also has this issue. Even worse left can have this issue right don't, than vice versa 1-3m from base and source.
interesting

I haven't with the mic 2 but I used the dji mic 1 on a high profile shoot for the NFL in Sofi Stadium and had zero issues
@@JakeSloan thank you
I see once again you are using cap without permission Mr Sloan😢 I am at lose as to what I need to do to get you to send me it. 🤷
hahahaha...
Huh that's weird, a Chinese designed/made product is better than the Japanese??
yeah, you'd think that sony could create a product that rivals the Rode or DJI mics easily considering their vast R&D knowledge
would you like to review our drone?
what new drone is that?
🤝😎
thanks
