One thing I think you missed is that the RODE Wireless Pro also includes TimeCodes which are a big deal for some customers but I agree with you in that I LOVE RODE products but went with the DJI Mic 2 system. I like the smaller form factor and the total control with the Receiver unit. Also I don't believe the RODE system supports Bluetooth so no connecting it wirelessly to my Pocket 3 like I can with the Mic 2.
We use DJI because of the simplicity of transferring the recorded audio. No need for an additional app like Rode. Just plug it into my laptop and it is ready to drag onto the computer. Great review.
Terrific review! I've owned the Wireless Go II system for a few years and have been pleased with the results, feature set, and longevity. While the DJI Mic 2 caught my attention with its smaller form factor, for video use especially, I think the Wireless PRO will be my next wireless mic investment as my current system begins to show signs of aging with slightly worse battery life. I prefer the warmer & fuller sound profile, higher storage capacity, battery life, and feature set, along with Rode's amazing customer support. I think I can live with the larger footprint and work around it. Thank you for sharing!
I’m super happy with my OP3 and Mic 2, but I have to admit that even on the loudspeakers of my iPhone, the sound quality of the Rode beats the DJI hands down. Great review!
Just want to tell you how thoughtful and detailed this comparison was compared to others I’ve watched on this subject. Really nice work. I agree Rode does just sound better. Thanks! 😊
I use both Rode wireless (not the Pro) and the DJI Mic 2 on GoPro and Action 4 cameras. Any additional audio processing like the low cut or voice isolation I do in post. It's easy to do it this way and much more effective. I like both systems but use the DJI mic almost exclusively with the Action 4 now simply out of convenience.
Rode is always the best for sound. Many TH-camrs started using DJI bcoz of the promotions, later the changed to Rode wireless pro. ❤ I love Rode I use Rode ❤
I owned both of these mics - Basically rode is another level of sound and hold timecode no shifting audio. DJI 2 is king in conectivity. I much more prefer better sound all day long because rode is not terrible in conectivity just not as good as DJI 2.
Biggest issue: If you are a solo shooter shooting 2 talents or 1 = DJI you have to swipe up twice on the receiver controller to get both recorders to start and do the same for them to stop. Rode : You press one button on the receiver and both backup mics start to record and stop with one simple press. Rode sounds better but If you have the DJI Pocket 3 there is not option. The DJI is the only way to go. The ease of use with the DJI is just easier and get great audio. If you are doing a two person interview with a lighting setup, hair light and background lights. Get the Rode.
True. Im going with the Pocket 3 route and although I love Rode so much. There is no sense to have 2 system when you can have one which work seamlessly.
Great review glad you turned off the low cut filter, it makes dji sounds bad. I prefer the DJI its easier to use, smaller form factor, and better compatibility with pocket and action cameras. The Rode has slightly better internal mic and includes lavs but even though the lavs sound good they fall off the clip easy and the locking ring is designed poorly making it easy to not lock if you're not careful. Both systems will do the job but DJI has all these small advantages that add up.
Great video. I've also tried both of these but had to choose the DJI over the Rode because the wireless connectivity with my Pocket 3 is just too useful! Outside of that I definitely preferred the Rode, and 100% agree with the Rode charging case being better for fitting in a 'real' setup.. I basically end up not using the DJI charging case!
Both wireless mic systems seem really good for anyone who is trying to record clean audio in the field. You couldn't go wrong with either one. And like you, I prefer the DJI Mic 2, it's a little more user friendly and I like the form factor. Great review, and thanks for sharing.
Did you perhaps tried to use the Rode Lavalier II that was included with the Rode Pro on the DJI 2? I am interested to know if there would be a difference and if, how much of a difference. I like everything about the Dji 2, however I would very much rather go for the “broadcast” audio of the Rode.
Rode Wireless definitely sounds better; somehow more natural-sounding when compared side by side. BUT the key point between the two is simply put PRACTICALITY. Yes, Rode does sounds better than Mic 2 but you'll most likely only notice that when you compare them 2 like this but direct bluetooth connection and the overall ease of use are more than sufficient to make people go for the Mic 2 I guess. Excellent review.
I have to thank you for these reviews. I've ended up moving to the DJI mic 2 and the Osmo Pocket 3 for my travel videos. I still use the GoPro Hero 12 for underwater and action with the mod lens 2.0. I'll be awaiting your comparison videos when the Action 5 and Hero 13 come out later this year.
Could you do a real-world range test with people between you and the mics? Cellular and Wi-Fi signals can make a big difference in the actual range (I’m not talking about directly in front of you, but standing in a hall or aisle with people on both sides, while still having line of sight between the RX and TX). I had the DJI mics, and the range was awful when using them in churches or crowded places (the mics were high up, so people weren’t blocking them). I now have the Rode Go 2, and they perform much better! I like the form factor and case of the DJI ones, so I’m wondering if they’ve improved the range in the V2.
When you connect to the Rode Connect app via the cable, I believe it lets you tweak most of not all settings. There are a few settings you can change on the receiver without connecting to the app.
After multiple firmware updates the DJI Mic2 still refuses to connect to my GoPro Hero12. I'm done. Switching my whole ecosystem to DJI Pocket3 and Action4.
Great video. I'm trying to decide between the two. I Vlog occasionally on my Harley Davidson motorcycle. My Gopro action cameras on my helmet and bars. I'm not getting good sound from a Panda mic and want to improve my audio. Is the Diji mic set my goto for basic good quality sound for my videos?
Which lavalier mic do you recommend i connect to the dji mic 2? I will be making youtube videos outside in nyc and would like a more discreet look. Thank you
another outstanding vid. love the comment about logo / free advertising for these folks; seems like audio via the lav had lower quality than wireless; this is the second of 2 vids of urs where the Rode just sounds the best, as you mentioned; HOWEVER, Rode receiver issue (not easy to change) has me thinking about buying a Rode or not. yes, it's 2024 ... like, wt#?
You used internal recording on the Rode and recorded wirelessly on the camera for the DJI? Does the Mic 2's internal recording sound better than when used wirelessly on the camera?
I think Rode is quite stylish, even being slightly bigger. DJI turned into a transparent little toy with some bold white paint on cheap plastic! The sound is definitely reacher on Rode Pro. I like Rode better, even if DJI is amazing with its noise cancellation... Great info comparision! Well done! Pro style! Rode Pro for sure...
Hello thanks for your review. Could you help me? I heard that DJI mic has drift while recording internally. But I need to record using the camera for about 2 hours on lectures. From what I heard if I recorded directly to the camera there is no drift only when recorded internally on the transmitter. Do you know something about that?
Usually drift happens when recording different sample rates, or a mismatch in sample rate and fps. Check your settings, usually the standard to avoid this is 24fps and 48k audio sample rate
If you record direct to the camera, you shouldn't have any sync problems. The Rode has time code or time stamp and keeps good sync. The Rode also has better latency and comes with those high quality Lavalier mics
Thank you for this video! I’d like to ask you a question, because I’m not sure if I have got it correctly. So, are there two options to use the DJI mic 2 with Osmo action 4? Either with reciever connected to camera or directly without reciever with Bluetooth ?
Thanks for this great comparison of DJI Mic 2 and Rod Wireless Pro! Listening to audio samples from both microphones in different scenarios was very helpful Mam 😃
i think you have the best and most detailed comparison. To be honest, on laptop speakers I do NOT hear any difference. I think for most casual users 8GB internal is enough, I would go with DJI because its $50 less and has noise cancellation. NC in post editing always muffles the audio around and sometimes in sound weird so I would prefer a system that has NC built in.
And the DJI has the option for a pearl-coloured (whiteish) version of the transmitter - works better for bridal dresses if that's your thing. And a small piece of black tape (or a sharpie) can fix the advertising issue...
Ah yes, I did forget to mention the white transmitter option for the DJI Mic 2. You could definitely add some gaff tape to cover up the logos, but that doesn't look too nice either if you were to zoom into it. I've seen some folks get creative with stickers to cover up the logos.
I have watched bunch of your videos today and checked out discover. Looks like this is the one that pays the bills. How do you afford all the tech gear, do you amazon return or do you have mega GAS. I had the original rode since it came out, now with the mic 2, the only problem is when i use it what my go pro, if i want to use the 32 bit recording, syncing each clip to the 20 min DJI recording is a pain the reason i bought the action 4 is becuase when linked, it starts and stops the mic recording on the device, making multi camera sync in PP much easier, one click and all cameras and audio are synced in a multicam sequence. With the go pro i have to sync the cut the audios from the big clip first. I always put my mic inside my shirt, but i put a black label over the DJI logo on the front, i have one marked for me and the other for my wife as we use them at the same time a lot. I wish the DJI case would allow the dead cats attached. DJI came out with a sony hot shoe adapter to skip the cable. I really prefer the 32 bit float audio, i sync it every time. Bit its a pain. I use the PP audio enhance at 5.0 and it makes my voice much better on the DJI. Larry
Sometimes companies send me products for me to test and make reviews, other times I’m genuinely curious about a product (ie the Ray Ban Metas), and I’ll buy them to try them. I also do photo and video shoots for clients, so I can justify gear purchases for that side of my business.
I'm curious how you compare the Lark M2 to these. I currently have the DJI Mic 2 with my Pocket 3 but I don't like it so I'm going to switch to the Lark.
Shure Movemic is also bluetooth for 349.00 without a receiver and is the only transmitter that can bluetooth 2 mics at once. Just saying because I'm a DJI mic man myself!
The MoveMic is indeed a newer option - just came out in March 2024. Although I haven’t tested it, 2 things concern me: the price is overall a lot higher, and it doesn’t allow for internal recording to transmitters like the DJI does. Other than that, looks like a nice option.
@@Gemini_Connect it does come in a one mic option but has to have the case to charge it for 249.00 but it is the smallest by far and gives up a lot of features but it is made by an industry lead in mic, but is that enough to support the price range have to get one to just check it out.
I think you are right, the RODE Wireless Pro has just a little better sound quality. I fell in love with the clarity while listening to another content creator SAM SULEK. His RODE Pro sound is phenomenal... I understand "convenience" is a thing for many people, but for me I cant justify sacrificing sound quality for an inconvenience. I don't know... To each their own
important to know that DJI uses ADPCM which is a LOSSY format which compresses the audio data to save bandwidth and reduce latency. It does affect the audio quality and is not considered a professional format. Yes, it pics up sound and will transmit etc, but it's not considered a pro format because it is LOSSY (vs uncompressed PCM). If it was uncompressed PCM I'd be all in!
I think I would get the DJI 2 rather than the Rode. And yet still get a separate Rode NTG mic but connected to the DJI float. For noise cancelation purposes. Will need that for my Horror short film. I could use the wireless part with a Rode Lav. That's good right there.
I think the Rode sounds significantly better both with and without Lav mics. However I think the design of the receiver of the DJI is best, in terms of display position (back/front vs top) and the access to all features, rather than the app. The DJI case not accepting the transmitters with furries attached will be a pain - however the attachment method is better. I am totally divided on the best choice!!!
I enjoyed your review but I am a little disappointed for your reasoning to why you picked DJI. You say you would sacrifice sound quality for form factor and convenience. The problem with that is you are giving your listeners a worse experience.
@@Yehiaahmed67 so are you saying that rather than use the track that was recorded to my SD card along with the video, I should pull the "backup" file that gets recorded directly to the transmitter, sync it with the a/v clip then use that audio track? Thought they were exactly the same. No?
I have the DJI system but it is defective, i bought the Pocket 3 combo with one mic2 and then bought the second with the charging case and receiver to use with my Mini 4 pro drone. I have spent the past week trying to get DJI to replace the defective gear to no avail, perhaps you could consider aftercare and customer service as an important factor in reviews, my Mic 2 is useless to me at the moment, do Rode treat their customers better i wonder?
@@Gemini_Connect here’s why I picked DJI Mic 2 - connectivity with my Action 5, overall fit and finish/functionality. Plus, everything in the DJI was done with purpose, like the case. The Rode just looks Mickey moused. DJI has caught up to and in my opinion passed Rode in just 2 gens.
Thorough evaluation of products I'm considering. Sound quality and features of the R0de wins hands down. Will watch for the budget wireless review to see if I can get away with. them for my occasional and intermittent use cases. Thanks!
So you connected DJI MIC 2 in bluetooth and record with rode internal and you said rode sound better😂 ofcourse rode will sound better you should record in the two internally and i'm pretty sure you didn't update firmware of DJI MIC 2 Don't do comparsion again i have the two and i know how the sounds like DJI MIC 2 is far better in sound quality than rode you shouldn't do comparsion again
I have a DJI Mic 2 and a Rode Go 2. I like the Go 2 a little better as it sounds slightly 'crisper'. But I like the DJI mic 2's smaller size. I use the Rode Go 2 for my Sony a7C and Insta360 X3, and the DJI Mic 2 for my Pocket 3.
Thx. I love that you use chapter markers for review purposes after watching.

i have the two mics she record DJI in bluetooth mode she doesn't know thing about audio
Also she didn't update DJI MIC 2 to the last firmware sounds of DJI MIC 2 changed to the BEST in the last update
And she didn't update so she didn't have the best sound quality from DJI MIC 2
I enjoyed your review but I am a little disappointed for your reasoning to why you picked DJI. You say you would sacrifice sound quality for form factor and convenience. The problem with that is you are giving your listeners a worse experience.
I picked the Rode Pro wireless.
Me too. I thought it had better sound.
Wish the wireless pro integrated as easily as the DJI.

Yeah I've heard similar stories regarding DJI backup service. Rode is Australian made and is second to none for service.
Rode needs the 32gb internal storage because its a pain in the butt to get the recorded files off of it... ;)
Biased much on Rode? 🤔
The sound quality is better, but the “quality of life” features on the DJI are better. So…no perfect mic system yet IMO.
She recorded dji in bluetooth bro😂 she know nothing about audio

Get your hearings check. You sound like a fanboy.
Being in the autistic spectrum the noise cancellation is total game changer!
Nice review, I'm clearly in the Rode Camp. Have both but prefer the quality of sound from the Rode Wireless, very little editing required.
Sorry, it is just the sound quality.
Hate the big white branding on the DJI. Thatll steer me away from buying it.
Huge monopoly by both these companies.
Not really. There are so many other competitors in the wireless mic space these days!
