    I have the DJI Mic 2, abd man, I’m convinced something is up with yours. Mine sound better than this.
    The rode still sounds better, but the DJI has something up with it that’s affecting its true capabilities.
    I saw a reviewer say they think that there’s still some bugs in the firmware causing the Noise Cancellation to not completely cut off, and I think that may be the problem here.

    Great comparison. I have used both on various shoots, and though I have found both to be similar sound quality (DJI requires some tweaks of the settings and a bit of extra work in post, but I've been able to get end result to sound nearly identical to Rode). For those with the DJI, make sure you turn of Low Cut Filter in your settings. Its on by default and is the reason the sound quality often sounds tinny. Turn it off will drastically improve the base on the audio and make it sound much closer to the Rode. It does sound like most of the DJI audio was recorded in this video with that setting turned on which may be why there is such a big quality difference between the two.
    I typically go for the Rode system in most situations. Maybe I'm crazy but I actually find the app much easier/quicker to use than the touch screen on the DJI. May just be my fingers but the DJI touch screen has responsiveness issues and I find the control wheel to also be clunky. Opening the Rode app and seeing all the setting in one place takes me much less time overall. I also shoot mostly short films, and in this scenario, the Rode looks more "professional." I'm typically mic'ing actors and the boxy look of the Rode is more similar to the look of higher end mic packs. I've actually had talent make negative comments when using the DJI's due to the size and "cheap" look of them. I find these comments ridiculous but perception does make a difference, especially if the person being mic'ed is the person that hired you. At the end of the day, I would recommend the Rode to anyone who mostly shoots narrative content or wants the best quality sound for the price (though I'll say that the lavs that come with the Rode have front facing mics which makes them pretty useless for narrative content if you need to hide them under clothing. I recommend selling them and purchasing more traditional lavs for this use case).

    Talk about stirring up the hornets nest, sounds like an Apple vs Android fanboy battle down in the comments. I think some are being too hard on Terry for making some reasonable and honest points about both mic systems. For me I appreciate the work he put into making the video. I own the Rode Pro and the DJI 2 and both are great for content creation style audio, both sound pretty good with a slight edge possibly going to Rode some of the time. But if great sound was really the goal none of us would be fooling around with wireless mics in the first place, wireless mics are probably never going to sound as good as other options. The Rode Pro does sound better but only slightly and in some scenarios - this has been the case in my testing. For me I'll grab my DJI 2 almost every time because of the ease of use, feature set and sound quality that is definitely good enough.

      I really appreciate this comment. I also don’t see how ANYONE can say im drawing bias when I stated nothing but logical considerations and facts from both in the whole video. People just like to complain is what I realize. I truly could care less which system people buy, or not. I just tried to give a balanced comparison and I APPRECIATE people who appreciate the hours and hours it takes to get these videos done. Also BINGO, these are $400 wireless microphone sets. These people want studio quality microphones on their shirts lol. Neither set can compete with a high end audio set up! I salute you my friend

    I like the both very much. Where one lacks the other picks up the slack. The Rode definitely sounded better. Very full, clean, deep, professional sound and the Dji not as much. With that being said, with knowledgeable tweaking of the setting on both mic’s I think they might be very hard to tell apart. I purchased the Rode Wireless Pros because I also own a RodeCaster Pro 2 which the microphones will connect to it without needing the receiver which swayed me back to the Rode and I also really like how they seamlessly can transfer the audio recordings from the charging case to your computer. As well, the kit comes with two Rode Lavalier ll microphones which run $139 cdn each and are quality microphones which helped me make my decision.
    What I do like about the DJI is the smaller size transmitter, small compact usbc and lightening connection from transmitter to camera or phone, the touch screen and the quality case with its magnetic contacts for tx’s as well as the connected range of the drone, I mean Dji transmitter which that is what Dji is known for and Rode is known for quality mic’s as others have said on here as well. Whichever one you decide to purchase, I think you will be happy as they are both very good wireless setups and it really will come down to which features you can’t live without that will determine your selection.

    Thanks for the thorough review. I've been constantly going back & forth between these two as someone who films from an iPhone 15 Pro. Extreme ease of use, the cordless USB-C connection, case logistics/aesthetics and the smaller size makes the DJI a much better fit. However, and this is a huge however, I think the file splitting is something that is a deal breaker for me as someone that often interviews others and frequently does long-form videos. I'm actually bummed out by this.

    I was going to be all for DJI until your video. Included Lav's, storage access IS GENIUS. I could care less about gain levels if I'm in a decent area. Internal 32 bit float makes that possible, so as far as the receiver navigation. Rarely would I touch that because I'm going to use the 32 bit float internal recordings and sync it up. The AI noise reduction on the DJI is not great. The voice isolation in Davinci does this job very well. Rode sounds better overall anyways. Like i said, I was still ready to pull the trigger with DJI, but thanks to this video, my money will be going to Rode. Currently my job provides the Go II which overall I like, So thank you for making this video.

    If you want to use these systems with lav mics the rode is by far the better option. I would also love to see a test on when using a lav and having the pack mounted on someones back at like 6ft away, the DJI 1 set I had would have dropouts at 6-10ft when not in the line of sight, it was unusable when using a lav for simple interviews.

    I can't understand the whole sound question at all. If I have something wrong with the sound, it will be improved within 10 seconds in my editing program. And above all: I don't use the same EQ settings for voice for every edit/film/video. People who say Rode has better sound are acting as if they always use the same settings in editing. But it's not a pro. Of course, depending on whether I'm using music (you have to balance the frequencies very carefully so that they don't interfere with and cancel each other out), I change the EQ for my voice or that of a protagonist. Without music I can edit a little less. Never, but really never, has a video left my editing program that I hadn't completely edited audio-wise. Who needs the “original” so to speak? When you have to film and give something away very quickly. Yes, perhaps. But how often does something like this happen? Almost never for me. I still have 30 minutes to tweak the material a bit. In this respect, I find it absurd to make the purchase of such a mic set dependent on the sound. Especially since the two sets are very close to each other. So much of it is a matter of taste. For example, I like the slightly slimmer, brighter sound of the DJI much better than the mid-heavy Rode. Besides, no one can wear Rode on their sweater. What does that look like? Briquette on the shirt? It has to work in practice, and in this respect the DJI is vastly superior to the Rode.

    The RODE wins it for me. Out of the box it sounds better (yes I know you can eq the DJI but the same argument can be said for the RODE)
    But outside the wheel and ergo the features of the rode just flat out perform the DJI.
    Also many of the new features like noise cancellation and Bluetooth are gimmicky in my eyes and create problems of their own in various situations that I would never actually use them. And honestly the lack of a locking 3.5 mic jack is a big no for me. That is a better long term investment.

    Having listened to this whole video while mounting a set of custom quad roller skates, I could still hear the more muffled audio of the DJI Mic 2 compared to the brighter Røde sound (and I bought the DJI the day it came out, and I'm not that happy with it right now. But the reason why I made a whole video about it on my channel is *the lack of TX to iPhone features* (or the features they removed). The RX + TX combo is so much cheaper than the full Røde package, so I'm rolling with it so far trying out EQ-settings to improving the sound, but might have to invest in a wired lav mic to connect to the mic.
    The problems: No backup recording, neither 24 bit or 32 bit, when connected with bluetooth to iPhone - so the audio is worse AND I'm not allowed to internally record and sync up later - Strike 1. The mic doesn't work with the native iphone app, not sure if it's an iOS thing or a DJI thing, and the native app is crap, but still - Strike 2. If I just bring the Mic with me for use with the iPhone I can't adjust the gain, not available in the Blackmagic Camera App (and it doesn't work with the native app) and I also can't turn off low cut filter, or switch between 24 bit and 32 bit IF I wanted to use the mic as a separate recorder (to get better audio than bluetooth, since it hasn't got an app (that Røde app sure sounds like a good deal right now) - So Strike 3 for not being able to use the TX without the RX if you want to / need to adjust any settings. On top of this the audio is more muffled, and you need to buy the lavs for slightly brighter audio.
    ON THE PROS side though: I can't use the adapters for connecting to my phone, cause I have a chuuuunky case - BUT the Receiver supports connecting through the back usb c charing port to my USB C iphone 15 max pro, and work as normally, that's great :) Looks janky AF, but it works, the receiver dangling of the end of the phone like a deceased ferret on a string, but it works, big plus for that.
    Now: even though DJI paid for this video, I hope you guys are watching and reading (and if you want me to test future products I'm more than willing to, I REALLY want to like and love this product, but come on people: Yes, I *know* that on the website, if you click the tiny tiny (i) icon next to smartphone connecting through bluetooth, it says it doesn't support backup recordings and intelligent noise cancellation, after I click it. Took me three visits to the website to think that there might be something important behind that tiny icon. And yes, it's also in the FAQ, on the last point, that has to be opened to read what it says.
    The Mic 2 RX and TX came *so* close to being the perfect setup fore *really* lean on the go videography, great features all around for control, connectivity and general ease of use, only to deliver muffled sound and no option to use the mic with bluetooth on an iphone without loosing access to all the settings (if not bringing the receiver which I was hoping to only have to use in the studio). Sooo close. But I'm sticking with it anyway since the only other option will cost me double the money and I would still be stuck with a big a** receiver on my phone, not sure if that's a win for DJI. But hey, take a look at the video, and if you want me to test out firmware updates or any new features I'm all down :D

    Dji seems great but it sounds like it's running through a noise cancellation plugin. Last time I checked there's AI denoise that you can't turn off...Drives me insane as someone coming from an audio mixing background. Just give me the damn raw audio I don't need some gimmicky denoise junk.

    DJI droped the ball with the new design. The translucent shell and bright DJI branding , along with the top looking like an old-school electric shaver is downright ugly. Also, the sound is thin (in comparison to the RODE). I guess we should thank them for the 32bit and the somewhat useful receiver wheel control....but I see no overwhelming reason to upgrade. The batteries on these will all eventually fail beyond repair, so it probably won't be long before I have to toss the entire thing away. Such a waste for the consumer and the environment.

    With lenses would you choose the less sharp, less colorful, less fast lens? No? Thought so. For me the winner is clear. Your first sentence is completely wrong. People DO pick lenses that may not be so sharp, but have advantages in other areas (character, aspect, detuned, etc). It’s the same idea here.
      There compensating factors for ME are worth more than the slight improvement in audio quality.

    It’s very funny to watch a microphone review without at any time a note about the sound quality which is supposed to be the main topic. It’s totally obvious that the RODE sounds way better.
    I’m sorry but there is some non sens things in this review that I would like to fix to help viewers in their choice of which one to buy:
    - The RODE have the REC stop lock feature, when the REC mode is set to « always » on the transmitter and you take it out of the case, you can’t stop the recording from the transmitter. And when you set the RODE button on the receiver to « REC mode » and press it, it will start a new recording file on both transmitters internally.
    - You’re complaining about the RODE not having a touch screen but lets be honest, once you have set your settings on the app you’ll almost never go back on it, and when you have the Auto Gain assist mode on you just dont have to worry about fine tune your gain like on the DJI, just a great peace of mind on the RODE so touch screen not needed because nothing to set.
    - Your replied in the comments about sound quality of the DJI « just a quick eq in post solves that », everybody will prefer to have a nice bassy/crispy voice sound quality straight out of the mic without touching the EQ. If you think DJI’s audio is good with EQ in post why didn’tt you show that in your video to prove you can have RODE quality easy with the DJI’s ? I think I prefer to « struggle » when I unplug the RODE from the case than having to check and EQ my DJI audio
    - About the storage you didn’t mention that when DJI’s internal storage are full they just stop to record and you have to format, whereas on the RODE after the 40hrs are full it will rewrite on the older files and you’ll never worried about having to check if storage is full. I’m 100% confident that if the storage was 32gb for DJI and 8gb for RODE it would have been a huge win for the DJI, whereas in all the videos everybody is saying « naaah 32gb who cares its too much » c’mon…
    All TH-camrs who received and tested the DJI Mics 2 are glorifying them just because they’re afraid of DJI non sending them again gear if they say bad things about the products. Everybody know DJI’s reputation.
    The features that RODE is doing better are minimized but on the DJI side they are amazing features.
    DJI mics are made for creators who want to play with the magnetic case and navigate in a touchscreen interface.
    RODE mics are made for creators who want good audio.

    • @Fredo.heavyy
      @Fredo.heavyy 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Rode has the same tired 🧱 form factor for how many generations? If you need the “pro” features and use locking Lav I understand.
      BUT
      Everyone admits the DJI form factor is sleek and the touch screen provides instant accessibility.
      This is why you have an iPhone in your pocket and not a Motorola razer, the bias is very prevelant.
      Rode out the box sound is great but “crispy bass” doesn’t work for all your talents voices.
      Flat response with dynamic room for EQ is optimal ie DJI Mic 2
      Terry review was sponsored but very impartial +practical, appreciate the work you put in 👍🏽

      Well if I was paid like you of course I would do a video. This is not a video made on your personal free time, its a paid work, by DJI.
      About the audio quality, this is just like reviewing a micro wave saying "this micro wave is so nice to use, nice form factor, nice touch screen and tons of features" but does it get your meal hot ? "well no not very hot but dont worry a quick fix on the gas cooker will solve that"
      And you said in another comment "I don’t care how good it sounds"...yeah, ok
      The truth is that only youtubers who bought with their own money both systems are honest with the real pros and cons of those systems.
      Fredo, dont compare a phone with hundreds of purposes against a microphone which can do only one thing: record audio.

    If you are happy wearing a box on your neck the DJI is the way forward. I prefer to be more discreet and use lav mics and the DJI has terrible range issues when you put the device on someone's hip. I have cutouts from literally a few meters away at times. I think the Rode is vastly superior for lav scenarios as I haven't experienced this. The audio is also much better on the Rode and doesn't require significant EQ.

    • @TerryWarfield
      @TerryWarfield  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I disagree on the range part. The rodes a ton of interference and if you made it to the range test in this video, you can see the DJI is superior in that area. I do agree the rode has better sound but also, a quick eq fixes that got the most part. We all have our preferences, for me it’s DJI but I wouldn’t be mad if I had to use either, they are both great kits

    Dude I would never feel comfortable waiting to fill up a whole 40gb of Audio before dumping for safety. 😂
    I do hope DJI has the capability to improve the sound via a firmware update, it is too feature rich to be noticeable trumped by the Rode at this point.
    Yes Rode has been doing Audio longer but come on DJI I can’t believe you can fix that nasal thin tinny sound out of box without post processing for the tons of purchasers who don’t have that technical insight. Rode is simply getting the nod for better out of box sound over all the DJI features.

    • @TerryWarfield
      @TerryWarfield  10 หลายเดือนก่อน
