Hey Jay IYAGI, am a loyal fan, I watch all your shows. The Samsung lab video was so awesome to see how they are made and engineered. Do you have an extra Samsung S990c for a loyal fan? Love the channel!
what are your thoughts on the HW-Q930C? Do you think it’s very similar sounding to the Q990C? Hey Jay can you please respond to this question, thanks bud!
Please let me know how proper Atmos tracks sounds in these speakers.... Particularly through 4 over head channels.... Did u feel the sounds really coming from above your head... Does these speakers really bounce sound from cealing.... Your reply is much helpful for me to decide my purchase... Thank in advance
Over the past month I've put together a "simple" 5.1.2 Atmos home threater system for my small apartment living room. Comprised of refurbed Def Tech speakers and a Marantz Cinema 60. The same system cost approx. of what the sound bar system cost. It does sound amazing for home theater, but installing the overhead Atmos speakers was a big pain. And unless your are a homeowner with a dedicated theater space, a sound bar system like this make a whole lot of sense.
funny, I have a Kef 5.1.2 system with and Onkyo RZ50, and just picked up the Q990c and I love the sound from eh Q990c, it doesnt have the same mid level response and is not as warm as the Kef Q750 speakers. However, it is such a fun an engaging system, the surround effects and dome of sound is better with the Samsung.
Iv just gone from a 5.1 soundbar to this and the difference is amazing. My first Atmos system and it’s like a sound ball in the middle of the room, that’s all how i can describe it. Only have it on 22 and it shakes my room on Netflix Jumanji next level , Topgun Maverick ect. Not even altered any settings, just straight out of the box. Got good deal for £850, also Jurassic World Dominion sounds incredible.
I recently purchased a 77" S95C. It's the biggest screen I can fit in my small living room and I upgraded it with the HW-Q800C, Samsung's ATMOS 5.1.2 soundbar. Getting the sub to pair was a little confusing, but once paired it's GREAT. The Q-Symphony TV + soundbar adds the 8 drivers on the TV's back panel, so it's kind of 13.1.2!
I just got a great deal on the Samsung Q930C 9.1.4 as an open box at just $764. Being it’s normal price is way out of my budget at $1400 I’m thankful to Best Buy they discount so deeply on there open boxes to put it in my budget. I bought it mainly for gaming so I strapped the subwoofer to the back of my gaming chair and wow what an experience between my Samsung 55S95B QD-OLED the true Dolby Atmos sound running QSymphony with the feedback from the subwoofer going into my back. Best setup I’ve ever had in my life and there ain’t no going back!
in the near future - i see every company coming out with a good soundbar - this is the wave of the future - amplifiers - speakers -cables - stands - preamplifiers - you name it - everything related will be a small niche market - especially if the sound bars sound really good - Audiophile ease of use - well integrated into our lifestyles - i have been an equipment hound for the last 30 years - but whoever markets well will have a soundbar in many homes.
For me, its the simple setup and pricing with rear speakers. It's good for everything. If you encounter rear speakers keep disconnecting and tried to reconnect, happens to me on my right rear, try reset everything and setup it again. (using q990b)

Yeah we have 2 systems the 11.1.4ch HW-Q995C for upstairs and Harman Kardon CItation series for the main living. But honestly the HK was purely for design choice, because the Samsung bar is really impressive compared to the 2 towers on the HK Citation series
Friend, could you compare the reproduction of ordinary songs on the soundbar and the speaker and, most importantly, tell us the dynamics of what cost this system corresponds to?
Jay, no opinion about the review, but I will say that we own that same cabinet in black and use it for spirits and barware. We had a custom thin profile quartz top fashioned for it and it looks real nice that way anyway keep them coming.
to turn on Dolby Atmos the Samsung setting say you need to be eARC connected. thats the whole point like apple they are creating a closed system. I think their soundbars are one of the few with ARC input most work on optical. not saying its bad my Samsung TV is amazing. So you haven't heard Atmos yet.
Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow amazing awesome video i am new in the Chanel in 01-18-2024 please not stop making videos are amazing God bless you and your family and everyone too thanks again
The Q990 can sound great and be much easier for the average person to set up. It is likely the best sound most people have and will ever hear. You also get quite a bit for your money with some of the sale prices. I have one in my living room and it’s very good. But I really question your placement and setup on the 7.2 system. You said the soundbar blew your $10,000+ setup away! Money doesn’t simply buy good sound. You have some serious setup issues if the soundbar genuinely seems that much better. I have a “budget” $3,000 5.1 system that is head and shoulders above my Q990. It smokes the soundbar in audio quality, bass extension, and impact. But I also spent loads of time on proper setup, measuring frequency responses, and ensuring good placement and seating position.
yea I never really re-watch shows or movies much but I had to for this one! Maybe I'll be doing that a lot more as I review more home theatre based products
Not sure if Jay was clear on this, but of course a dedicated system with 11 separate speakers placed properly throughout the room and then being able to add whichever subwoofer u want and add a bunch of them, will beat any soundbar at any price range. This is not a Samsung issue, it’s a physics thing. I own a Q990c and i think it’s excellent for what it is. For most people this will be overkill. For those that know about HT then they will hear the shortcomings when they listen to a SB and u pick up the tricks that they use. As to set up and use, the Q990C is so simple it’s silly. And that goes a long way, most people do not want to run speaker wire, or cant run it, or dont know enough about HT to bother. Systems like the Sony A9 or Quad are more cinematic and offer a larger soundstage as you are separating the speakers rather than the 7.1 channels sitting in a sound bar in the center.
I just purchased the 990D and its not as good as my old 10 year old system. Yes all around sound BUT zero thump. The bass just rumbles in the background. Zero thump from the bass box when upping the volume. My wife who doesnt care about sound has noticed is just doesnt have any oomph. Now arranging to return.
I have the Q990D and agree the bass is very poor. I simply spliced speaker wires from the subwoofer to my Klipsch subwoofer and it is amazing. You can adjust the Klipsch to rattle the widows. Problem solved!
Q symphony is a mixed bag depending on your tv speakers. If u have the Samsung S90C, the speakers are thin and incompetent. there is a difference of sound experience when u have your dialogue coming out of these thin tv speakers and the rest of the soundbar will overpower it in loud scenes as the vocals cannot be loud enough or sound flatter then usual. It might work better in tvs that have better sound systems. Also Q Symphony is not optimized enough to be a center as you will have weird sound clashes, some stutters in some chaotic scenes. its not qualified to be beta yet and more research needs to be done.
You mention calibrating the TV with your phone but I wouldn't be confident with that calibration. There's different factors that will put off the calibration process. 1) how good is the camera on your phone. If it's not very good or middle class then it won't recreate the image the way real calibration will do it. 2) the lighting in your room will effect colour and brightness calibration putting off the calibration. I don't own calibration equipment and I'm not a professional calibrator but as I said this calibration might make the TV a little bit better calibrated but not even close to real professional calibration.
Using a Samsung TV with the 900c soundbar doesn't give a fair reflection of the soundbar. Most of us have another type of tv, and i can tell you that it doesn't sound as good. Mine didn't automatically sync with the rear speakers from the off, I had to download the app and do everything from there. Also the connection with wifi would drop sometimes.I still feel my old 5.1 system separated sound better.
youre better of streaming from a chromecast or fire tv connected directly to the soundbar. Also.. Samsung yeah its good ... Look for the Philips 8000 series 8507/8907 amazing performance for the price
Thank you for a very informative video. I agree with most of what you are saying, especially about the 2 channel high fi. (I have a Linn, Naim, Tannoys set up, which to me, is awesome) Unfortunately I'm unable to get the 930C as my furniture and the legs on either end of my Samsung TV don't fit in with the dimensions But I will be getting the 930C which does fit in and is 9.1.4. Thank you Andrew.
I have the 930C/935C something, and am not too impressed. I mean for a soundbar it's fine, but when I switch to my actual system I'm like yeah, no. Better to upgrade the regular system to surround. IMHO rear speakers don't need to be as good as the fronts, for example. My solution was the MiniDSP Flex HT as a pre amp that also does room correction magic and has a stellar DAC for such a device. My old speakers are in the back (as they are full range, unlike the fronts, they assist the subwoofer, and I might use them to cancel out bass waves I do not want). An affordable Class D amp is going to power them, while the front will soon get something higher end. And a sub fills in the low end. Phantom center is great anyway, and yeah, I won't have Atmos, but I think my experience is still better.
When you said the soundbar competes with that Genelac surround setup or any other expensive hi-fi setups - were you comparing their surround capability, the sound quality or both (or something else)?
I Tried Sonos, JBL, Sony, Yamaha and no luck but this Samsung was the only one that had great sound for my room layout from all, the only complaint is the sound it does not sound immerse but it can hold audio well and the subwoofer is terrible! Too many lost connection sometimes even after 2 replacements so I just end up connecting my Klipsch sub with a 3rd party transmitter/receiver.
Hi bro my Samsung soundbar Q990C is not working just 1 orange Light is on. I m going to samsung service centers butt he is noy resolving this problem i m just 2 months ago buy the Samsung Q990C soundbar. Pls help me Thanks
Would love a comparison between the 990c and 990b. I have the 990b and am loving the performance for my needs, but like most people am interested to know if an upgrade to the 990c is worthwhile.
There is almost no difference between the 990B and C. There is now a 990D which introduced the ability to pair one extra speaker but the reviews I've seen suggest it's not worth getting yet.
Awesome review Jay! I was actually waiting for the playback video of these soundbars, hope you'd upload one hehe Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you Jay and everyone in this community!
I’m really enjoying your content. I have a brand new Samsung QN95BD 65in TV. It’s the 2022 qled model that I bought in Dec. 2023 because of the one connect box. I’m trying to decide between the Samsung 990C Dolby Atmos soundbar and the new Nakamichi Dragon 11.4.6 soundbar system. Can you please do a Nakamichi Dragon 11.4.6 soundbar system review or comparison to 990C?
If u can afford a dragon there is no point in considering any other soundbars available rite now.... Its not a fair comparison to a dragon with a harpy eagle....
q990c has an consistent issue of not staying paired with TVs. It will drop off connection and become unresponsive after a few days. Still hasnt been fixed as we speak
I keep hearing this but i have not had that problem with mine but i use hdmi eARC to connect the soundbar to the TV not wifi. The rear speakers are wifi and i have hot has a problem with them either. I hear the Q990B had a connection issue on some units (not all) but my Q990C has been nothing but amazing. I am very happy with it and the sound stage is on another level to anything i have had before.
Have the 990C as well for about a year. Have not experienced the issues you are. It shouldn’t matter what type of tv u are it connected to. I have mine connected to a LG C9 (it’s 5 years old) and works good. Am not a big Samsung fan, but this is a really good package, for what i paid, it seemed like a no brainer. What type of TV are you using?
I mean, people in multiple places mention that "they can feel things above them", I can't even hear them in a slightly convincing way. Its like 0 height at all for me... With Top Gun Maverick (and other ATMOS files) it displays Dolby Digital Plus, is Atmos infered to be in there as well? Playing an it through PLEX.
I have the same issue. I read to get the true armos height with these, you would have to play it through Blu-ray at lossless uncompressed. I've only tried it through streaming sites where Atmos is really Dolby digital plus with Atmos compressed. Have you tried it with Blu-ray? If so, was it better?
Netflix sound quality is locked behind what you pay. You only get 5.1 unless you pay the full amount, then you get Dolby Atmos/Spatial Audio, and 4K video. Amazon Prime does the same thing plus the drawback is not every movie is free with a subscription. Adaptive is best for audio that's 5.1 and above. Surround gives a slight boost to the front speakers for stereo audio.
Jay you and dad need to get into "audiophile" home theater segment. Not talking soundboard. Why don't you team up with Anthem Canada's finest audio vendor.
What the hell are you talking about? He talked about the soundbar. Get a grip. Also, what the hell is it with you people announcing your departure in comment sections like anyone gives a crap?
It makes me laugh that people are asking the comparison with physical surround system. Guys… let’s be real. All Jay is saying is that this sound bar is amazing that you don’t have to mess with cables, receiver, multi ch speakers at all. It does a pretty dang good job for simple set up. If you have cheap 5.1 ch system, it might be better to have this one sound bar as this is very capable sound bar. 😂
Thank you for actually listening to what I’m saying haha. Yes, what I meant was that in a space constrained room where 11.1.4 dolby atmos isn’t even a possibility is when soundbars like these make a lot of sense, I wasn’t saying they are better than true channel equivalents.
I don't think all the hype on this soundbar is just. Iv'e got this bar and think the dolby atmos is pretty poor , compared to a amplifier and separate speaker system.
Have you tested the Samsung Q-series 11.1.4 ch. Wireless Dolby ATMOS Soundbar + Rear Speakers w/ Q-Symphony / HW-Q990D as well as the Bose Smart Ultra Soundbar with Seismic Sound Ultimate Home Theater System. If so, which system is best?
Have you tested the Q-series 11.1.4 ch. Wireless Dolby ATMOS Soundbar + Rear Speakers w/ Q-Symphony / HW-Q990D as well as the Bose Seismic Sound Ultimate Home Theater System Bose Smart Ultra Soundbar and if so which is the best?
The satellites speakers can be mounted on the wall. A standard 6mm threaded hole is on the back each speaker. Remember to buy 2 extended lengths power lead. As the standard figure 8 power lead is only 3 meters in length. I agree with Jay it is a very natural sound on a two channel stereo source. I actually quite enjoy it. Atmos sounds is also great but, I heard better. Still for the price and convenience it is well worth it.
That’s odd. I still have them and love them. The rear channels never fails to connect for me. Maybe your unit has an issue. You should reach out to Samsung and ask
@Jayiyagi It's new they have never been used disappointing, I think I need to hook them up direct some how first. Best buy I think gave me a pair that didn't come specifically from the unit but same one if that makes sense
There is still a chance that it is defective out of the box. You should definitely check with Samsung to confirm its defective and get that warranty claim. It should pair seamlessly
yea, the resolution is pretty good. It's definitely not the same type of experience in sound staging, imaging, and some of the stuff we audiophiles look for but that surround experience with music recorded and mastered for dolby atmos or surround channel is very cool
Never been able to get q-symphony to work. Always results in out of sync voice. Of course Samsung support is disinterested at best and otherwise completely useless.
The dragon seems to be the only one that has all the features of a HT receiver, it’s the ONLY sound bar with full proper atmos and took nakamichi a very long time to get approval .
I know this one is maybe a little more than I need. But-- looks to be interesting. I do love the wireless connectivity of the Samsung and it would fit my needs much better. Thank you for your review, it was very helpful to me.
So you tell us that this soundbar defies the laws of Physics... For 10.000$ you could buy 11 REAL speakers, a capable receiver and serious subwoofers that hit usable 20hz with ease... OR your 10.000$ setup maybe was defective or not properly installed.
as specified in the video, it was a 7.2 set up and again specified in the video; while I agree that a proper home theatre set up of equivalent channels will likely still be better, I am not able to install that many speakers in my small/medium sized media room, hence why I found it valuable that a compact sound bar system like the Q990C allows for so many channels to work well in such space.
there's one in every crowd skippy. get a life. htf do you modify the typical living room to manage all of that gear????? and how much better is it really going to be? i await your video on your 10K 11.2.1 set up in your apartment
We need to understand this is sponsored by samsung. Nothing wrong with a soundbar but off course a real surround system will blow it away. One issue with the wireless speakers to me is you NEED to have a power outlet close to each speaker which is more annoying compared to putting a small speaker wire...the sub is also laughable, no way it gets to 20hz with any authority
@@Stan_the_Belgian I don’t think the sub is laughable, it probably doesn’t get down to 20hz as u state, but it does go low enough. You could spend $2k on a subwoofer but why would you.
If your sound bar is sounding better than a 10k setup you are doing something wrong…Samsung owns many high end audio brands like HK, JBL, B&O, if this sound bar is so good as you say it is then Samsung is killing its own sound brands. I am sure this thing sounds decent and something that 99% of the people will be happy with but as a Sonos owner I have yet to see a soundbar system that can beat an HT system. We demoed several sound bar systems in our home and they all leave nulls in frequencies, I am sure your room has challenging acoustics and your system was not setup properly.
Tech moves quickly. I bought a mid range Samsung soundbar and after watching a few movies with it I haven't turned on my built in 6.1 surround system from 7 years ago since. The sounds are much more crisp, seperated and clear with the soundbar system.
Cause look at what they did with QD OLED displays and demolished LG OLED. When Samsung wants to dominate a industry they do it vertically and horizontal. And @ value and performance dimensions it just intimidates other OEM, vendors and retail channels.

Thank you
Andrew.
The 990C is the best sound bar for Atmos sound for a normal price.. Only the Nakaimichi dragon 11.4.6 blows it's away
Ah I don't think you know what you are talking about friend. Jay Iyagi knows what hes talking about, heck he has a TH-cam channel for God's sake.
So where do you get to the part about soundbars?
Spacefit does use the microphone in the soundbar I think !
When you said the soundbar competes with that Genelac surround setup or any other expensive hi-fi setups - were you comparing their surround capability, the sound quality or both (or something else)?
exactly
Surround it's better, but not of course sound can't be.
Confused on how it's better than all the other brands yet you complain about the issues with sub, immersiveness, and connection 🤔
Hi bro my Samsung soundbar Q990C is not working just 1 orange Light is on. I m going to samsung service centers butt he is noy resolving this problem i m just 2 months ago buy the Samsung Q990C soundbar. Pls help me Thanks
People tend to forget Samsung owns JBL and Harman Kardon.
Did you mention how bright it is.
Awesome review Jay! I was actually waiting for the playback video of these soundbars, hope you'd upload one hehe
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you Jay and everyone in this community!
I think it'd be fun if you attempted to beat on a budget. Maybe at the same cost then at a higher budget.
I think that is the whole point of the sound bar system like this. It packs a lot of value (and channels) for the money
you are the only one in the world who compares 11.1.4 atmos system with stereo.
I've had this issue with my q900c. But I have different issue with 800c as well. It's very annoying
Do sound bars work effectively in treated rooms, given that they rely on sound reflection, which may be reduced in a treated environment?
I think they work better in untreated rooms. The only treatment which would really make sense are throw rugs and bass traps.
Oh Nice! Hope you have great holidays and happy new year!
Same to you
Did you get information about Q990D when you went to Samsung California R&D? :)
I think Allan gave you confidential information :)
Sonos Arc + Sonos Sub and 2 rear speakers (Sonos One gen 2) or Samsung Q990D? What would you recommend?
same doubt here
Or sonos arc 2 subs gen 3s and 2 era 100s or 300s as rear surrounds or q990 c or d
Theres planty of people who have switched over from seperates to sb and are more than happy
Biggest issue with this system which I own btw is the constant dropouts of the sub and rears which is very annoying
My TV room is in a room with 2 story high ceiling, would the sound bar work with some drivers meant to bounce off the ceiling?
No
Hi what is better for netflix prime....surround or adaptive sound
Netflix sound quality is locked behind what you pay. You only get 5.1 unless you pay the full amount, then you get Dolby Atmos/Spatial Audio, and 4K video.
Amazon Prime does the same thing plus the drawback is not every movie is free with a subscription.
Adaptive is best for audio that's 5.1 and above. Surround gives a slight boost to the front speakers for stereo audio.
i think you meant 11.1.4 right? not 11.4.1
Jay you and dad need to get into "audiophile" home theater segment. Not talking soundboard.
Why don't you team up with Anthem Canada's finest audio vendor.
Who's daddy?
Is this about TV or Soundbar?
Since sound bars rely on walls to deflect sound, I assume that won’t work as well in a room that has no wall on one side or a vaulted ceiling?
Is this Soundbar dedicated for Samsung TV's only??
No, but sounds better with a Samsung tv
My samsung soundbar pairs great with my LG oled.
I tried out this soundbar and thought it was awful. Much preferred the more open sounding Sony HT-A7000 with sub and rears.
If you are going to talk about soundbars, TALK ABOUT SOUNDBARS. I began watching only to give up when the talk turned into a tv review.
Calibration only work with a samsung tv... Dont have any sense 😢.
Hi Jay - can the soundbar be wall mounted? My partner has been asking me about rear speakers. I stare back and tell her we're a 2 channel family.
The sound bar comes with brackets to mount to the wall
My samsung rear speaker still don't pair😢
WFT.... What we do need to speed 50k on a system????
I have a Samsung sound bar. Some how it has similar resolution as my HiFi system just without the frequency response 🤔
yea, the resolution is pretty good. It's definitely not the same type of experience in sound staging, imaging, and some of the stuff we audiophiles look for but that surround experience with music recorded and mastered for dolby atmos or surround channel is very cool
Oled is the way
I came here for the soundbar review and got super annoyed I had to sit through the super long TV Review.
Never been able to get q-symphony to work. Always results in out of sync voice. Of course Samsung support is disinterested at best and otherwise completely useless.
What TV do you have?
Yep same happened with me so I sent the sound bar back and took the refund
It made me so crazy that I broke my TV. Had to get rid of it.
Nakamichi Dragon?
I rolled my eyes when that sound bar system came out but I have to admit, I have a different perspective on sound bars now, I have my eyes on it.
A 1800 dollar seperate syystem will not blow the sammy away other than in the number of wires
L glaze
It sucks!!
After 6 months having it, my bass box is rattling!
Really? Is it on an uneven floor or something? Because otherwise it might be defective if its rattling and you might have to use that warranty
No its not close
AD
How do you hear the shit?
totally agreed
Can you be more specific, what "shit" are you referring to?
Please go straight to the point !!!
Too expensive for me
If your sound bar is sounding better than a 10k setup you are doing something wrong…Samsung owns many high end audio brands like HK, JBL, B&O, if this sound bar is so good as you say it is then Samsung is killing its own sound brands.
Soundbar is good. . . Q symphony is shit. .
You should give the nakamichi dragon a try .
That dragon it's so much more expensive that Samsung.
