And C.) it'll probably no longer be sold soon. Anyone with a functioning cerebral cortex would stay away from that thing, no matter how fun it is to drive when it's brand new.
I know, right? The key is to look at the front plate of this demo...Apple Autos. He is selling THIS car. Why would he bash it? Talk about conflict of interest.
Yes, it's probably impossible to do DIY service and will start to fall apart 5 minutes after the 5 year warranty runs out. Leasing a car that has no resale value means you're paying the bulk of the cost of the car to lease it.
Not a shill for Dodge, but have you checked the current prices of the Hornet? I thought they were over priced, but after watching this video, I looked at my local dealers. Even the one dealer known for insane mark-ups is selling them for $27,000. A lease would be even less, but a lease is just renting a vehicle.
Dodge actually based on the Mercedes platforms, and these last decades. We have 1969 Charger, in great condition, weekends driven... this thing is 50 years old. And I have '14 R/T as daily and my bro '12 SRT as daily.
I don’t think I will ever buy a new car again. Losing money immediately, having to deal with the dealerships to get service, worrying about scratches, dents and dings, having a car payment and expensive insurance. I’m just sticking to cheap old cars I can work on myself. I spent a lot of money buying cars before I learned my lesson. So even if they priced new cars at $25k, I really don’t want them. Even putting a bit of money to repair a used car is worth it to me.
Four years ago, I bought a 2010 Lacrosse v6 3.0 with 37 thousand miles for ten grand out the door. It was garage kept and well maintained. I have put back brakes new plugs and coils. I had one coil go bad, so I changed all of them. And I put a new temp sensor and oil changes. The car runs and drives like new, I now have 57 thousand on it, money well spent. I could sell the car for what I have in it right now. NEVER BUY NEW unless you are rich and have too much money.
@@Chip-hm3ny I was buying Corvette, Lexus, a Mach 1 Mustang, Infiniti and Subaru. Living it up within a 5-10 year period. Then the career I was in changed up after covid. I saw things going downhill and sold my new car then I got laid off. I used to buy old cars and fix them up, sell it and get another. 2-3 cars a year usually. It was fine with cheap cars but when I started making good money I scaled up and threw away so much money. Now my project is an 89 Cadillac which is much more reasonable. 07 Toyota Yaris for a daily. No car payments and cheap insurance. Out of necessity and lack of income I'll probably just keep what I have now and maintain them as long as possible. Maybe one day buy a used Lexus.
As someone that has a 97 GMC Sierra it doesn't matter if it cost $5,000 to get it fixed, it's still cheaper than buying a new vehicle and more economical.
Here in Italy the Tonales (they're built in the same factory) are falling apart. And I'm sorry to say, but the overall quality is far less appealing than what has been displayed in this video. Don't make a bad mistake, don't buy this pile of crap...
It's a Stellantis/Alfa issue right now. Lack of reliability in all their products since they released this vehicle. And now banks are not financing these things unless you have a big down payment because of the reliability issues and how quickly they depreciate. To top it all off, look and see what Stellantis is doing to Dodge/Chrysler right now, they could no longer be a brand in a year or two.
Agree. Went to Columbus Ohio ( about 30 miles north of me) to look at a Stelvio, and the dealer was shut down. No warning, like go to work and there is a sign on the door type of thing. TONS of vehicles on the lot but dealer closed doors locked. All cars there were to go to Cleveland or Cincinnati. The Dodge dealership COULD sell me one ( same dealer) and his Alfa service tech stayed at the Dodge side. They could do maintenance work, but any warranty or recall work would have to be done in Cincinnati or Cleveland. The Hornet being the exception, but a no go on the Tonale. I believe this is a Stellantis/environment problem. Perhaps the Government here demanding electric only vehicles, when the market, infrastructure and common sense doesn't support that. Combine poor management and cost cutting from Stellantis, AND poor government policies and you get this.
I suspect Dodge and Chrysler will be gone within 3 years, Alfa and Fiat are already on the way out of the US. but Stellantis only ever wanted Ram and Jeep out of the deal. The FCA/PSA merger completely fucked the US market, no improvement in reliability, no Puegeot or DS coming to the US market, PSA just wanted Ram and Jeep and is killing off the rest.
100% agree, this was ABSOLUTELY a paid review. This thing isn’t selling because it’s straight trash and I actually like (and have owned) many Dodge vehicles.
Dude completely refused to point out the ParkSense malfunction and the clunking at 3:04 like it’s so obviously a paid promo 😭 this thing is a turd on wheels
Same, but I actually think this is a nice vehicle. Fiat didn't help Chrysler on the quality/reliability ratings though - that's where Chrysler needs to focus its efforts!
@@mrvwbug4423 You are correct about the size. For sheer quality, get a Mazda CX-5. If you want to match the Hornet's acceleration get the turbo version; however, I'm happy with my non turbo that still gets me to 60 fast enough at 8 seconds and I'm constantly seeing upper 30s in the mpg department.
I thought about buying one of these. Then I went to the Hornet Owners Reddit. Every other post was about how to get a lawyer to force the dealership to buy it back. I went to a dealership to look at one and the dealer hadn't been doing the maintenance on them the owners manual requires. These things are snake bit.
Almost every car I have ever owned (11 since 1979) was from the first year after a model change, and only one had any early model build/reliability/quality issues. VW (2), Honda (2), Toyota (2), Ford (4) & one KIA. Well, 2 of the Fords were really Mazdas: a Probe (626) and an Escort (Protoge/3).
@@Natethegreat200c It's not just the first batch with any mopar product. It's a shame because other than the issues, it was a good vehicle, a compact crossover with legit off road capability (a real low range, full skidplates and an honest to god rear locker). How can you get one used for $28000 if they didn’t sell new… If you do find one used, one must ask why? It’s not like the rental companies are buying these to turn in a year or so….
I think car companies set themselves up for failure when they name a vehicle after beloved vehicle from yesteryear. It just upsets people that remember and expect a legit sequel.
I don't know anybody who liked the original Hornet. I remember my neighbor couldn't sell hers, wound up almost giving it away. The originals were slow, ugly, and not particularly economical. It like Ford naming a new release Edsel.
I live in Nova Scotia, Canada and can't remember the last time I've seen one actually on the road instead of languishing on dealer lots. I wondered why because it looks awesome and seems to be really fun to drive, so it should be a no brainer to buy one as everyone wants small SUVs. Then I looked at the prices...the cheapest one I could find in my city was $46,000 CAD and as high as $70,000 CAD!!! That's $34,000 to $51,000 in Freedom Dollars. That is pants-on-head crazy for a compact SUV. Dodge doesn't have the brand panache to be commanding that kind of price. They have ideas above their station.
Quick little anecdotal, i test drove one with a salesman a month or so ago. A Short distance from the dealership the cluster lit up like a Christmas tree and reduced power. The salesman looked at me and shrugged his shoulders. Pulled over put it on park and it wouldnt restart. So had the manager come get us. 😂 When we got back to the dealership the manager asked if i was still interested in another model. I LOL'd and walked out.
I would avoid any FCA products. My coworker bought brand new Jeep Grand Cherokee. That thing been in the shop so many times from small issues to major issues. I think at the time , he paid about 50k + for it. He's a lot happier now that he bought Toyota Highlander.
Just went to check their lease offers (the only way I would buy this) and they are ridiculous. For starters, lease is only available on the upper R/T trims with almost 4K down and almost 400 per month. But here is the kicker: 5K max miles per year! Never seen that before.
Is this the best Stellantis scam ever? *Start outrageously expensive, sell a couple. Then nonstop stories about insane inventory, huge markdowns! We have to wait but then we sell two years worth of these ‘unsellable’ cars in six months. Social media is wild.*
Dodge produces absolute garbage. I had a fleet pickup from work. At 40k miles, it has major transmission work done twice! Windows rolled down on its own... so many of the fleet vehicles stayed in the shop.
I was laughing my ass off when I first saw the commercials for this SUV. The way they portrayed it to be as exciting as a gasoline challenger or charger was both infuriating and hilarious.
I tried to buy one from multiple dealers. They are not really being discounted. They will never get you to that price point they walked you in the door with. They want you to finance only, I wanted to pay cash and all the discounts disappeared. I went with a Chevy trail blazer, they threw in all the incentives and let me pay cash. Night and day experience. No one is getting 10k off a dodge hornet no one
Never tell a dealer you're paying cash. A big chunk of their income comes from finance deals. The bank gets most of the interest, but part of it is paid to the dealership as a fee for securing the loan. If you want to buy a car with cash, finance it, then pay it off when the first bill comes.
Stellantis clearly doesn't understand the American car market and is destroying any market share the old Chrysler brands and old Fiat brands may have had here. There's a reason why French brands haven't really sold well in the American car market, they're not that good and they don't know how to market to us. I remember when Peugeot was in the American market in the late 1980's and early 1990's, when they tried to work with AMC. Chrysler bought AMC along with their Jeep and Eagle brands, kicked Peugeot out and got rid of AMC. What Peugeot did have in the Eagle brand was older Mazda technology and Chrysler got that and improved their cars in the 1990's with models like the Intrepid and the cab-forward design. Then they redesigned the Dodge pickups making them a serious competitor against Ford and Chevy. But anyway, I digress, Stellantis has fully wrecked Chrysler and Dodge, and I fear to the point that they will not be around in a couple of years. Chrysler now only has one Model, the Pacifica, and Dodge has what, 3 or 4 models, if that? Then they go and make Ram and Jeep, "upscale, luxury" vehicles, to where a Ram Tradesman base model work truck is over $40,000, when they should be under $30,000. Nope, Stellantis needs to reevaluate their marketing of the Chrysler brands, and either fix their marketing strategy of sell off the Chrysler brands, but I have no idea who would buy them, except for maybe the Jeep/Ram brand.
Not that I'd defend the recent efforts of Fiat/Chrysler.. But did you mean Renault rather than Peugeot? & I don't think either had technology resembling that of Mazda nor Italian Fiat. Despite buying Simca after it died under Chrysler's ownership (Simca assembled Fiat designs in France in the '30's) And Renaults influence at AMC allowed development of the Eagle Premier that provided the architecture for the later Intrepid...
I think Dodge will be around far longer, but more like Jaguar as a semi-exotic sports car dealer rather than a big mainstream manufacturer. Here in Europe they are already doing that with very few dealers that have only the nice V8 cars that people actually like on the lot.
I bought mine April 2023, have 27.5K miles on it. I only buy compact SUVs, I've had a Subaru Crosstrek, a Fiat 500X, and now this. Love it, looks great, fun to drive, no problems. I did get the upgrade package that has the Brembo brakes.
I kicked the tires on one at a Stellantis dealership. The salesman said he could me into for $25k base price. I ultimately decided no and bought a 1-owner 4 year old Rav4 Hybrid instead for the same price.

Leasing a car with high depreciation will raise the lease payments a lot since that's what you're really financing (depreciation). Leasing works best on cars that hold their value, assuming you can get a decent price (Cap cost).
It's named after an insect. It's shaped like a turtle. Despite these appealing features, suv buyers are not concerned with performance. It's that simple. People that want performance don't want an suv. People that want an suv don't care about performance. Especially at $40k.
The formula has been given to Dodge (many times in fact) - they'll need to drop the ride height about 2 inches, add about 40 horsepower, add a few millimeters in tire width and put some GLH badges on it. Oh, and drop the price to the mid 20's and they'd have a hit....
It's an Alpha.... It's going to break down on you. Multiple times. Even as a lease vehicle with a warranty to cover things, your boss is going to quickly lose patience with you for letting him know you're going to be late yet again because you need to take your car back to the shop, yet again. The seat bolsters are a bit too aggressive. Despite prices having come down, the incentives still aren't low enough for what you get.

We've met peak saturation as consumers where the younger generations can neither afford nor want to drive themselves. The older generations have been bitten by Stellantis and European cars, or have been exposed to the maintenance sticker shock by proxy. Add to that it has a Dodge badge, which does not attract Alfa Romeo money, only with an Alfa Romeo price tag. It is a mashup of too expensive for the brand, missed mark for targeted market (or mistargeted market), and the European bad aftertaste of preventative maintenance for all who may have considered it. It is a good thing they came down on the price to move them, but now the economy may still dissuade potential buyers except rental car fleets. That's probably where we're going to see most of them go.

Three of those dealerships are Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge & RAM and they have had many folks who walked away from the Hornets because they could not order them/get them with a manual as well as great dislike of turbo charged engines since anyone with any degree of intelligence knows that turbos in general shorten the life of engines considerably. Maybe different where you are but that is how it is here and they tell these exact topics are coming up @ Dealer meetings with the execs who have ties to tight around their necks thereby limiting oxygen to their brains so they cannot perform a logical intelligent thought. They as well as non-turbo charged engines have an extremely severe nasty habit of lasting a long long time hence why my original comment about non turbo w/manual. In the case of spending $30,000+ on a Dodge Hornet easily between the turbo and automatic and this applies to the vast majority of vehicles today if they are turbo charged with 9+ speed automatics extreme considerable doubt they will make it to even 150,000 miles on the odometer before reapir bills starting @ $5,000 minimal will come along. Purchase something from Stellantis with their new twin turbo Hurricane engine - lots of those cannot even achieve 75,000 miles before extreme expensive issues.

Yes, it's probably impossible to do DIY service and will start to fall apart 5 minutes after the 5 year warranty runs out. Leasing a car that has no resale value means you're paying the bulk of the cost of the car to lease it.
People who buy cars don't care for the depreciation because they're not buying them to sale them. They're buying them to keep them
Not a shill for Dodge, but have you checked the current prices of the Hornet? I thought they were over priced, but after watching this video, I looked at my local dealers. Even the one dealer known for insane mark-ups is selling them for $27,000. A lease would be even less, but a lease is just renting a vehicle.

That's what I've heard on numerous videos and platforms. Total junk and will end up costing the owners way more than they're worth in the long run.

Not to mention all the tattle tail electronics being added to them.
I learned my lesson as well and am the exact same way; It has made my life much happier and less stressful.

Despite buying Simca after it died under Chrysler's ownership (Simca assembled Fiat designs in France in the '30's)
And Renaults influence at AMC allowed development of the Eagle Premier that provided the architecture for the later Intrepid...
The French brands are actually are better, there's a reason they're Stellantis' money makers
Went to dodge dealership with mild interest & low behold I'm quoted $625 per month lease. End of story.

The older generations have been bitten by Stellantis and European cars, or have been exposed to the maintenance sticker shock by proxy. Nobody wanted it, nobody asked for it. It's like an STD with wheels.
😂
The price is for sure keeping it out of the market, things like the 2nd Gen Trax is what is being bought instead.
If a dealer wants to cut me a deal and sell one for under $20k, I’ll cop it.
I agree - the Hornet is actually a desireable vehicle. My problem is that I don't know if it will be supported by the manufacturer in the long-term. I don't know if the manufacturer will EXIST and/or be doing business in the United States, in the long-term.
Sales are so bad these days that you can apparently pick these up BRAND NEW for less than $25k. The catch is that you have to put up with Stellantis build quality and the numerous reliability issues.
Maverick can be had for $26k with a stronger tow liter engine and AWD and just as good of handling. There. That's why it doesn't sell.
Stellantis could probably sell a ton of these if they’d only pull their heads out of their assess and reduce the MSRP by at least 40%.
Live in Europe so I do not have this car to compare to but - I have a Suzuki Swift Sport it's about 155 hp and 975 kg and the same engine in a small SUV Vitara 1.4 that's supposed to be a rather fun to drive SUV.
Well it's like night and day. SUVs are not fun at all to drive - it's a silly proposition. Vitara is 155 HP and 1350 kg. Cornering in a SUV is always a joke compared to a sports car or a hot hatch. You will be embarrassed.
I went to the Miami Car show this past weekend. I rode both the Alfa Tonale and Dodge Hornet with a professional driver and theyre both so much fun. They are overpriced but great cars. I own an Alfa Stelvio and they definitly drive like Alfas
Ever keep an eye on the Stelvios depreciation values?
@@nookbandit of course. I owned a used Alfa Stelvio. Fantastic deal used.
Can someone please explain to me why Stellantis won’t drop the price and would rather sell NONE than all of them? I don’t get it…
Drop the prices by a minumum of 25%; cut the turbo charged garbage - put a real naturally aspirated motor in it; offer it in a manual; can the ipad in the dash; a lot less electronic whiz bang and it might actually sell.
As it is today over price and over rated.....
A manual would probably not even make up a half percent of sales. Talk about a disconnect with buyers lmao
Wolfgang is right. Nobody is buying a manual in this car. If they wanted manual, they wouldn't be buying a crossover.
@@boneseyyl1060 No body will buy a manual of any kind from any manufacturer anywhere when they do not offer them but they do offer a lot of non needed/non asked for over priced electronic goo so as to keep the prices high during purchase and keep those repair bills nice and high too!
I do part time work for 6 different car dealerships in my area and the issue here is if they get anything decent in with a manual it has an extremely bad habit of not staying on the lot usually more than 5 days max.
Prices are nuts besides and going EV only makes it worse....
Who tf drives a manual crossover??
@@CaptainFordo21 I have and still do now. So does a lot of family and friends too. Manual transmissions if done correctly are fun as well as much better in snow and ice and if there are issues do not turn into repair/replacement costs that start around $5,000 and go up considerably from there.
Maybe it's the lack of advertisement for this car? I literally didn't even know the Hornet existed until like a few days ago when I visited a Dodge dealership.
It drives like a crossover not a sports car
Makes me go insane every single time I see people pretending to have « sport » SUVs. Nothing sport whatsoever about that weight and body style.
I haven't seen one on the road yet. I think. I think people know better than to buy a front wheel drive Dodge, or buy another front wheel drive Dodge.
I’ve yet to see one of these on the road. It would be quite a rare sight to see one in person
edit: I just seen one for the first time today 💀
You can get a 2024 R/T hybrid for $30k at some dealers in my area. They’re scrambling to get rid of them.
A coworker of mine bought one and actually likes it. I think people are just upset over the price hikes and the Challenger and Chargers being discontinued.
In a normal market I could see these being popular. Is it going to break? Probably.
