I have a friend that’s an insider. There is a fine/credit program from the government. Dodge has been in the fines for years. To keep themselves afloat they had to stop making their V8s. Chevy was attaining some credits they’ve had some EVs/hybrids, but they had run out and were going negative so they had to do the same. Ford has been making credits for years with their successful V6s, hybrids, and EVs. They still have credits hence they continue to produce the V8. That’s at least what I had heard from him, whether it’s true or not 🤷🏼♂️ seems possible though
I can't believe Stellantis got rid of the Charger! This was a moneymaker for Dodge. People loved it. Also, police departments all over North America use the Charger for it's size, speed, and power. Stellantis clearly doesn't know a profitable vehicle if it bit them in the ass.
@Grumpy_old_Boot they are ceasing all production of internal combustion engines and shifting to ev. No new gas charger planned. The new ev crap is whats down the pipeline so dodge is circling the drain.
Within the Grape Vine, Carlos Tavares just might be getting replaced. Their EV's are already breaking down, the Hurricane is about as reliable as a dead body on top of that. Ford should use another legacy name for their 4 door. Like Fairlane, Galaxy, Falcon, LTD, Crown Vic, Taurus, or even Thunderbird. Rename the Mustang EV Thunderbolt.
Ford is only able to make V8 cars now because of the carbon credits they received from making the electric Lightnings and the Mach-e Dodge had to buy their carbon credits from Tesla. A year or two ago Stellantis said they would no longer buy these credits. In hindsight, they made the wrong decision.
If the current charger and challenger were so great there wouldn't be tens of thousands of them sitting around on dealer lots unsold for months. It's just a horribly ancient design, badly assembled, engineered cheaply, sold to people with no taste
I was going to comment also.. any dealer around here in NC has plenty of Chargers and Challengers.. some dealerships have gotten wise and cutting the prices to move 'em out!
The biggest gripe I have with them is that (especially in the south) *everybody and their mamma has a Charger* and the car has really only had exterior redesigns and minor interior redesigns. What hasn't been redesigned is the thought process behind using the cheapest materials they can find for the interior. 🤣

GM destroyed Swedish Saab and desintegrated Korean Daewoo. Corporations serve their shareholders and not our wants and desires, unfortunately. Stellantis, has also killed several of their local brands. Ford was destroying Mazda that was luckily bought back by Japanese Capitals. Same with Volvo, Ford was disintegrating it and the brand was bought back by Swedish Capital. Chrysler was destroying Lamborghini which was bought and then bought latest by Audi. Renault owns Nissan and there's lots of bad blood between the brands which hopefully one day separate again and restore Nissan's once 4x4 Greatness. More on GM: Isuzu, Suzuki, Opel? Need I go on?

While I agree that Ford has always supported the Mustang very well the Mustang has always dominated sales over Dodge and Chevy sports cars. I believe they sell twice as many per year or more on average usually. I expect even with the higher prices they will sell even more of them when people can no longer get new V8 Camaros or Mopars.
I sell for a Ford dealer in South Georgia and the new Mustang 5.0 has been selling pretty well and the Platinum and King Ranch F-250's have not slowed down. The only thing we are struggling to sell (other than EVs) are Edge's.

The new ones are sports cars yeah, but the original styled corvettes were always muscles cars, and the old ones, before they turned it into that Ferrari looking one
Ford has been maneuvering the mustang to compete with BMW, Audi,MB, and even the corvette. My first new was the mustang Boss302 Laguna Seca. That car was designed specifically to beat the BMW M3. Since then the Boss302 LS gets blown away by modern GTs. I have been amazed by their performance benchmarks since 2013. And yes I am a GT350R/GT500 snob as well.
@@John_Caravella I wouldn't quite say that, but I entirely understand where you're coming from. The S550 changed the damn game. It turned a straight line performer into a good sports car, even in the base models. That's what I feel has made the biggest impact to the Mustang's performance in recent years. Ford drops a new model year GT, then shortly afterwards they drop a special trim that has some new suspension, transmission, etc. (such as the Mach 1, GT350 and GT500), which said upgraded parts find their way into the standard base and GT models in succeeding model years.
If Chevy blames the government and mandates then why do they still make the Corvette? My gripe about that Mustang is there is no stick shift I wouldn't buy it.
A muscle car must meet the 5 requirements to be considered a muscle car. 1.American Made. 2.V8 Engine 3.Rear-wheel drive. 4.Two-door body. 5. Can seat 4 passenger IE Mustangs, camaros, chargers, novas, chevelle ect So a Corvette has been and will allwas be a sports car not a muscle car. Also an el camino is a truck!!!! :)
No one under 50 actually knows what a muscle car is, or for that matter, a sports car (2 seats). You, included. Mustangs, Camaros, Challengers, Firebirds,, Barracudas, Javelins, 1st gen Cougars, are Pony cars ( because they copy the Mustang formula) Musclecars are mid size sedans with their company's largest V8 engines. A modern equivalent would be a Fusion with rear drive and a 5.0, a Malibu, with a LS, or a Chrysler 200, with the gen 3 hemi. The Charger doesn't fit, because it's no longer a mid size, as the largest car Stellantis makes. I was alive when the Automotive press came up with names for those categories. If young people could read and spell, they might learn that the internet "experts" know nothing about what they speak. Most Chevy guys can't spell Camaro correctly.
The visibility out of the rear was the actual problem. The biggest issue was the ugly interior styling and the mid-cycle refresh that ruined the front end styling. The 6th gen Camaro began to fall short of sales targets because the cost to get a V8 Camaro was thousands more than the cheapest Mustang and Challenger V8 options. The visibility only made things worse. Which was stupid because GM certainly knew that owners had already complained about poor visibility in the previous car. Some 80IQ overpaid executive then decided that what the 6th gen needed was an updated exterior that was much much much uglier but looked more like the ugly Rumblebee car in the latest Transformers movie. Somebody at GM admitted the updated front end was hideous when they decided that the ZL1 would not get an uglified front end but instead retain the original front end that looked good. The 6th gen had a lot going for it in terms of handling and speed, but was held back by poor visibility which made it difficult to use as a daily driver and the interior design looked awful day 1.
In this economy, anyone would be a fool to buy a new car. A $52,000 car, $0 down for 60 months at current rates? Over $1140 a month. For a depreciating asset.
I just did a build and price for a base GT with reasonable options ( spare tire, nicer paint, better floor mats, etc ) and came out at $45K. Closer to 41-42K after rebates and discounts. In today's world, that's about as inexpensive as it gets for a V8 car.
My wife is the Mustang person in the family, driving an '18 GT Vert now. She will agree with you on the dash. She wasn't very happy with the new design, but when she saw that screen she decided she would continue driving her '18.
Ford has always been able to pivot faster than the other two. It was the main reason they didn't have to take the government bailout years ago. Another sneaker vehicle are the V8 jeeps. While not a car, those older body style grand cherokees are surprisingly fast and handle well with the all wheel drive.
Was considering a mustang for my next car, issue is getting any creature comforts and decent performance upgrades (active exhaust, performance package, magnaride) you end up creeping well past 60k. At that point why not get a Dark Horse? Ford is smart, they know their competition is dwindling in this space. Looking at the mid cycle refresh Explorer ST now!
The problem is when someone makes the only one of anything sooner or later the quality of that item is not maintained in future models as there is no one else to compete with to keep them pushing the boundaries

Why does it have to be such a negative thing? What if people want a mustang but can’t justify it because they have a family. Making a family oriented mustang isn’t such a bad thing. I personally think making the interiors and such more alike would make even more sense. If you don’t like it then just buy the 2 door. It’s pretty simple actually

The question of why Dodge and GM are discontinuing I.C.E. sports cars is easily answered by looking at the performance numbers of the electric vehicles . Even with half the horsepower they are quicker . The numbers are not anyone's opinion , just like the light at the end of any quarter mile racetrack . How can you sell a so called performance car that makes 700- 800hp being out performed by an ev that makes half the horsepower ? He was talking about how expensive the truck was but had to spend money for his business. Well a few months ago he was just cruising down the highway at 60 mph and another guy in a new Silverado blew through a stop sign and my buddy hit him between the back drivers door and the bed. He was driving 45-50 coming across the road and got hit by an 8k pound truck moving 60 mph. Buddy jumped out of the truck and ran over to check on that guy because he rolled 6 or 7 times out into a field. He was still conscious. They had to cut him out of the truck. Both went to the hospital with very minor injuries. Go do that in your “tough” old truck. It just simply won’t happen.

Maybe they have something in the pipeline that will sell better if the Charger isn't there ?

Ford should use another legacy name for their 4 door. Like Fairlane, Galaxy, Falcon, LTD, Crown Vic, Taurus, or even Thunderbird. Rename the Mustang EV Thunderbolt.
Ford is only able to make V8 cars now because of the carbon credits they received from making the electric Lightnings and the Mach-e Dodge had to buy their carbon credits from Tesla. A year or two ago Stellantis said they would no longer buy these credits. In hindsight, they made the wrong decision.
They are also so far behind introducing EVs.

Ford drops a new model year GT, then shortly afterwards they drop a special trim that has some new suspension, transmission, etc. (such as the Mach 1, GT350 and GT500), which said upgraded parts find their way into the standard base and GT models in succeeding model years.

Mustang had that design dating back to the late 90s. Kia stole the disign 30 years later.
Excellent review on the mustang. Thanks.
Just like 1970. '60s muscle cars were disappearing to be be replaced with boring family units. Same scenario, same words.
Have you ever driven Camaro. visibility is poor.. You can't even see some stoplights if you're at the line.
I’d just lease one, Have fun with it and turn it back in. Yeah, who said fun in a new machine is cheap?

I just did a build and price for a base GT with reasonable options ( spare tire, nicer paint, better floor mats, etc ) and came out at $45K. Closer to 41-42K after rebates and discounts. In today's world, that's about as inexpensive as it gets for a V8 car.

Ford has always been able to pivot faster than the other two. It was the main reason they didn't have to take the government bailout years ago. Another sneaker vehicle are the V8 jeeps. Okay I’m just kind of laughing here. The Toyota dealership basically has a Chevy showroom floor on their corner with a BMW Supra on the flank. It was excellent of them to make it convenient 😂
Ford needs to quit slapping Mustang on everything. They should dust off the old Taurus SHO nameplate with an updated Lambo style bull or steal the AEV logo with SHO. Take mustang off of the Mach and maybe rename it Cougar or dust off some other nameplate sitting in the parts bin. The Lobo Maverick is a perfect example of this. Ford not putting a wolf 🐺 logo on it will be a crime. Glad Ford is still hanging in there and keeping the V8’s around. The EV market flaws are evident. I have a feeling that the government mandated changes will be restricted or the time frame will be extended. Long live the 5.0!
And yes I said BMW supra as the motor is from BMW. The new Supra is a huge disappointment to me. It’s so small it feels like you have wrapped a beer can around you. Just give me a Stang
