I played in Arena yesterday and Welstra felt like a brand new deck. No persona bricks, no hands problem and by operating 3 times your opponent power is at 0 and with dbl Maximum with Welstra on PR turn, it's 33k 38k and another 33k. Holy moly... That's not all, Freiheit is also a key card in Erdgremmeer deck.
If you operate 3 times, normally your opponent’s power goes below 0, which is possible in vanguard ruling btw And yeah, operating 3 times per turn plus 4 attacks, Welstra is living his life hard
Knew this would happen with welstra. Kept trying to tell people not to judge a deck based on only one wave of support. Meta players want every ride line to be tier 1 day 1
To be honest, Welstra was in tier 3 or 4 previously. PR reliant, lots of 0 shield value orders, a turn 4 deck with only 3 attacks turn 3, low plussing…. The g2 we got now is how Welstra should’ve been since day 1 IMO. Making him a turn 4 deck AND persona ride reliant was gross overkill I’d expect from the absolute first set of Vanguard (Magnolia, Hexaorb) but not goddamn set 7
@@lynxace1602 I don't really agree. He runs less orders than basically every other Brandt deck, his effect is purely free so it can easily power scale upwards with new units. It's also not the only deck with a 3 attack turn one and it can make zorga level boards due to the minus from maximum, in addition to board removal against most decks that rely on their rearguards (not counting resist). His first wave of support gave us ways to accelerate maximum, and a counter charger in addition to multiple lanes of operation. I'm not gonna say the deck was at the top but its core was always amazing. People are just spoiled by the raw power creep of the rest of the format that they've started to expect that level of power as the norm. Plus, units that relied on persona ride all got ways to recycle persona rides eventually, but it only took welstra one set to get there, instead of multiple sets, like the others.

I don't get it, why Bushi keeps printing good card as a promo which a lot of players will be looking for playset of them? I think YGO never done this kind of things before, they only put a promo card as a commemorative/alternative art distribution to already existing card or just purely nostalgia/legacy support card like Black Chaos MAX
If I have to guess, it's a way of rewarding people who read their weekly magazine/go to shop tournaments. In Japan you can find tournaments everywhere especially in the metropolitan areas so releasing the new cards as promos makes sense in the japanese market. Frustrating for the english Market yes but at the same time, it makes more sense to encourage players to play tournaments/buy bushiroad products
Even when they fixed everything...I still have 0 interest in the Welstra deck...I feel like making it really good was the only way to get a bunch of people to play it cus I know I'm not the only one that just isn't feeling it as an archetype
