Hi Jose. At 9:20 in the video, what does it mean when you choose Mode: sRGB, under Media Settings for the Epson P-800? The file to be printed is in ProPhoto as one can see from the file name. So when you choose sRGB, then WHAT is set to be sRGB in the system? Is it the input file (overriding ProPhoto? just assigning another profile changes colors). A wild idea: Is the choice of sRGB as Mode something that limits the print gamut to be within the sRGB color space? I have no good idea about what Mode: sRGB does.
In the User Guide for Epson P-800, we can read on page 83:
"EPSON Standard (sRGB) Increases the contrast in images."
That text makes absolutely no sense to me. Then I wonder: Jose, you wanted to print the test image exactly "as is", without any editing or enhancements. So why choose a Mode that promises to increase the contrast in the image?
I hope you will reply to me, very technically and specifically. (I understand icc profiles pretty well, I use X-Rite i1Studio for my monitor, I have created icc camera profiles with the Lumariver Profile Designer, I use the Colorchecker passport, I know the difference between assigning icc profile and converting from one profile to another (in Gimp), I know the difference between gamut and color space). BUT: I have never printed, and I want to buy a printer soon.

    • @cheo1949

Well, you don't. No company will have profiles for their printers for competitor's papers. You have to have them custom made for you.

Hi Jose, great introduction! Thank you!
I use (have) Quimage for many years, but did not use it much because of improper knowledge. I also bought my next Cannon 1000 to start now some proper (professional) prints. I hope with your help 👍😀.

Yes, this is the method I use, and I still get excellent results from an 11-year-old Epson 3880. I use an even simpler program - Photoshop Elements - which has a simpler print interface. The only difference is that I select AdobeRGB as the mode. Sure, it limits me to Epson media, but Epson media is pretty darned good. Simpler is better!

    • @cheo1949

No secret. It's Qimage which now offers auto color management and paper profile suggestion.
I would choose whatever works best for you. If you use brand papers ie, Canon or Epson you can let the driver do it at it is actually priting via its own ICC profiles on its own anyway.

    Hello Jose,
I have downloaded the print evaluation file as you recommended and opened it up using Photoshop Elements 2021 on my Canon Pro 100. However when I go to print it I get a message saying "The saved print information is in an incompatible version. It has been set to default values". What does this mean? Can I still use the image to evaluate my printing?

Hi Jose, thank you for a very helpful video. One question, please:
I have the test image that is shown in this video. It seems like a good idea to use that test image when testing third-party paper and its associated profile. Do you know of any reason why NOT to do so?

    • @cheo1949

Jose, I've just bought an Epson P800 on the used market, and I have printed your test page letting the printer manage the colours. I've made several prints, but I have a problem with two of the greens (two leftmost) in the top line of the colour patch below the B&W patch. They cannot be distinguished from each other. They display different on my monitor but not on the prints. I've tried both glossy and luster paper, same conclusion. Any ideas how to move forward?

Those colors on the upper row are out of gamut colors. I have the same experience. Don't worry.

Jose, When I downgraded from the buggy High Sierra to Sierra, I longer saw my Canon print driver. Canon’s site does not have supporting drivers, so I found third party CUPS driver. My computer is old in technology years and I can’t upgrade to Mojave. The CUPS driver is missing many things the Canon printer driver had, like showing current ink levels, and running a print test. Printing in Photoshop seems to be a huge problem, as the images look horrible. Canon customer service has been unhelpful. Do you have any advice for me? Thanking you ahead of time!

I have a Canon Pixma ix6810... i know it's not one of the best, but it's all I can afford for now given my country's current situation. I cant find any information on ICM profiles for my printer I don't even know what ICM stands for lol. Can anyone point me to a starting direction? I've already Googled stuff, but nothing was helpful. Where do you get those ICM profiles for dowload?
When I click on ICM I only have the "input profile" and "rendering intent" options :(
