Oh no! My printer has a clog.
Burt I print on it religiously....when I remember!
Well, we are all guilty of this including me but not often!
The longest I will go is one week and that occurs maybe once a year.
I have over 20 printers and seem to be able to keep them unclogged regardless of Brand, Model or whether I use OEM inks and carts or refillables with good third party inks.
So here is a bit of a discussion on this fun subject.

So, it’s February 2024 and I have just taken my Epson WF 7610 out of storage where it’s been sitting unused for THREE YEARS.
Amazingly it still printed (poorly) with black ink, but the CMY had all dried up. I changed the cartridges and it would print NOTHING but black. I tried everything I could find to remedy the situation and nothing worked. Until I found your video today. Amazing, just amazing, that Windex can save my printer. After only about an hour of soaking the heads with Windex we are back in business. Thanks again!

Your tips helped me, thank you.
I just wanted to add that for moderate blockage, what just worked for me is instead of doing the whole syringe procedure, I removed the ink cartridges and cleaned them from the top with Windex on cotton swabs. It was quick and the Epson is back to perfect prints.

Thank you! The windex and paper towel technique worked really well. Our printer didn't print the Cyan color at all, so I figured it must be clogged. All other videos online were asking for a full disassembly of my printer or buying some solution to inject. Yours was an easy process with supplies I had laying around my house. I appreciate the guidance. Printer is working like new.

Hello Jose. You emphasized ammonia being one of ingredients in Windex and at 8:04 you mentioned that fumes alone dissolve the dry ink inside the nozzles. Is it fumes that are caused by ammonia? In my country I can't seem to find window cleaning solutions that contain ammonia in their ingredients.

If on a MAC, Inkjet Plumber and if on WINDOWS you have to use the unclog tool that is part of the Qimage Ultimate software
($69 ) Each will schedule a print at a period of your choosing.

I have an epson et 2550 with a third party sublimation ink. The printer sat for about 8 months. I got most of the colors to print just doing the clean cycle. My issue is that it will not print red. Everytime I try it prints yellow. Will this method work with the epson et 2550?

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  5 ปีที่แล้ว

Your magenta channel must be badly blocked. Sub inks are a bear to unclog. I would continue treating thebpint head with Windex and hope for the best. But sometimes the clog is simply two much after 8 months.

Wow, amazing help! I had not used my Epson C88 for a least 1 year and it was completely clogged on all the color channels. When I ran a nozzle check sheet it was completely blank. I then patiently used Jose's procedure with the Windex paper towel strips (about 7 times) until hardly no ink was showing up on the strips. When I first started the black ink was prevalent and then as I progressed splotches of cyan, magenta, and yellow started to show up on the strips, so I knew the nozzles were starting to unclog. I periodically ran some nozzle checks and noticed the colors were gradually starting to show up on the paper. I then ran a few clean head cycles and "bam" everything was hitting on all the color channels. I printed some color articles and I'm amazed how this printer came back to life like a new inkjet printer. Thanks again for your help!

Everything I do is detailed and concise and probably information overload but I prefer to do that to prevent you the viewer from having any questions after watching a video. I am an abuser of printers. 🙁 I have an Epson WF-645 that goes many months at a time without use. I have several set of cartridges that are many years old. They are kind of working. But I seem to have to do head cleanings and nozzle checks every time I use them. Would they be too old? The yellow isn’t putting out anything at all. I will take your advice and print something every few days, once I get the heads working again. Thanks so much for the video!

It sucks trying to have a printer at home most people just don’t need to use it very much and let’s get real the last thing on anyone’s mind is “oh I better use my printer 2 times a week”. Really better off not having a printer that uses ink at home. One of the printers I have at my business uses this black toner that has that black powder so whatever that stuff is would be best at home because it won’t clog up.

I appreciate the time you have spent in making these videos, and helping the printing community. I have watched a lot of those videos, still have some to go through. So, I finally tried resetting the printing properties on my Canon TS9120 printer based on some of your suggestions, like when you were doing an Epson & Canon's settings. I even was to find the montage picture you suggested. Well after resetting everything, the picture came out white a 'bluish corroded copper' look, the face coloring were completely all very wrong. At this point I wanted to throw up and maybe get another printer completely. But after breakfast this morning and settling back down at the printer, started going back over things. Then remembered this video. Printhead Clogs, well I did more than that. After removing the cartridges and then the printhead, took the printhead to sink, ran really hot water over both side of the printhead. Took the printhead down to garage and used the dog's heated air blower (helps in removing loose hair from the dogs). Now the printhead is clean & dry, re-install it, put ink cartridges back in, did a "Cleaning" from the printer's menu, and then a test page. What a change cleaning the printhead had made. Re-printed your picture, it turned out as yours had, well maybe not as exactly as yours but close enough for my use. Thanks for your help.

***** IT WORKS!!!!!!!! Jose gave us all the tools of knowledge on how a printer's inkjet works and what the common issues are and how to fix it yourself when possible! And I appreciate you teaching us! My 10yr old son and I were able to use the Windex method and within 30min or so we had it back to printing like brand new again!!! Woo-hoooooo!!!!!!!!!! Thank you Jose!!!
Ok I fully realize this video is at least 4yrs old but still VERY relevant to what I am dealing with right now. I am just now going through the first least invasive step of wetting the paper towel with windex and letting it sit. Crossing my fingers this works! I am SO bummed that my black ink has virtually stopped working, pretty much a light grey at this point. It is a new printer I bought a few months ago too! I was using daily until this pandemic struck our planet and I all but stopped using my printer for a whole week and now it's apparently clogged! So irritating, but I am grateful for your video and hopefully I will be back in business soon!! Hope you are doing well and anyone reading this during this pandemic is healthy and safe.
*** I will report back how this works so that other's know who are dealing with a similar issue as me.

I'm down to two segments left. Rather than using a lot of cleaner and ink, could I add some Piezo Flush to the cyan cart along with the ink and proceed with printing normally(don't care about print quality) to hopefully clear the last two segments? I've already gone through the procedures you describe. Thanks

Thanks Jose! What about Brother printers? The best printers I've ever had were Brothers. Did a contract job for a company a while back and needed my own printer so I could use my own laptop without having to sync up to their network. (They were very concerned about security and I was only going to be there for a few months.) Bought a little $89.00 brother. It copied, printed and scanned better than their fancy $20-30,000 machine. Mine was slower of course. The only thing I ever used theirs for was printing on 11x17. I haven't used it in several years, but may try it out using Jose's tricks.

Again my printer clogged and I tried to fix it. Everything got "worse" the more I tried. :-(
I tried this procedure and attempted to clear the clog I was getting on the cyan only to make things worse. Nothing was improving after several attempts with reapplying the cleaning fluid. Still nothing improved but only got worse. I tried the paper towel soaked with windex and pushed the print-head over it several times, leaving it sit for several hours and overnight. Nothing improved. I remember you said to use “new” ink cartridges at the end of your video. Print test failed and I didn’t see “any” lines. I listened to what you said in the video again and again; this time I heard you say “continue doing this and to be patient, it will clear”. Another day pasted and I cleaned the heads “again” with the solution several times. Finally the cyan printed but no others. I did the printer’s {print head cleaning} opt again and again, then ran a {nozzle check} and this time the back and all the colors printed. Thank you again for the video & “YES” be patient, it WORKS. ----->>> BE PATIENT

Should I try the Windex cleaning again at this point? Thanks!

Hello- thanks for your excellent videos and channel. I have a Pixma Pro-10, which I made the mistake of not using much during the peak of the pandemic due to work commitments- I live also in Utah and the printer is located in a room that is unheated and quite dry (low temp in winter gets to about 50F in that room sometimes), which I’m sure made things worse. I cannot afford to buy a new printhead as they are now several hundred dollars, and cannot justify a new printer. I have therefore been doing the deep cleaning with windex plus alcohol and water DIY solution for several days now (with breaks). However the little oval (sponge?) absorbent piece that is part of the print head for the PBK and GY heads stills seems to leach out ink after several washes; the others are mostly done and occasionally the cyan will show some blue ink tinges. Any advice as to how long I should keep doing this? Do I need to wait until all the heads appear white/ unstained with ink? Or is the head beyond salvage? Thanks?

Thanks for your video from some years ago. I have a problem with a recently purchased Epson R280 for which your help would be greatly appreciated. I purchased a new R280 recently through an EBAY vendor. I have two other R280s that I've been using over the years; therefore, I'm familiar with nozzle checks and head cleaning. Please forgive me if the questions I'm asking have been addressed by you in this video, or one of your other videos. It's hard to search the comments for keywords/phrases.
The problem I'm having with this one is printing the wrong colors. Nozzle checks show full lines but with the wrong colors in some sections. The yellow section has some black lines and light cyan lines. The black section has some black lines at the top, but light cyan toward the bottom lines. The light magenta is mostly light cyan lines. When I do a head cleaning I temporarily get more correct colors in the correct sections, but with time the sections become corrupted with the wrong color.
My belief is that the print head is bad, and some internet research shows that these print heads are prone to printhead "delamination", which lets the colors mixed in the printhead. My theory is that when I do a head cleaning it pulls lots of the mixed (corrupted) colors out of the printhead, allowing for the correct colors into the printhead, and a timely nozzle check will show mostly the correct colors with no missing lines. (temporarily)
I am using reusable cartridges, which I have also been successfully using for some years on two other Epson R280s.
Does my theory sound reasonable? Is there something I can try to correct this? If I'm on the right track, would you happen to have a link to where I can get a printhead for a reasonable price? I talked to Epson and they considered it an equipment failure, but since I purchased through a 3rd party (EBAY), they can't provide a direct warranty.

I can get the colors to come back with this technique and doing cleaning cycles and eventually the black but then the next day it's back to not printing. I use this printer often so I don't understand why I'm getting clogs.

Jose, Love your detailed discussion. I have a question on an R1900. I admit it set for almost a year and it had some clogs but they cleared after several cleaning sessions. The test print from cleaning shows no gaps and the black and white image is black and white. But, here is my issue any print B/W or color prints with a cyan cast. I have photoshop elements set to manage colors and the R1900 ICM set to off so the printer doesn't manage colors. No matter what setting I use it always prints a cyan color cast. The test page showed the cyan printing normal.
If you print a B/W image shouldn't the color cartridges be turned off and only the PK and MK cartridges active? If so why is the printed image full of cyan. The Cyan Cartridge in the printer is an LD branded cart. I have ordered a new one from another company to see if it is the cartridge. I have also printed the same B/W image from other apps. These prints show varying degrees of cyan tint but always a cyan tint.
I appreciate any advice on this?

Thank you Jose! this is very helpful. I have a question. I am letting the paper towel set under the print head , do i keep the inks in for this or take them out? also do we need to change the papertowel after an hour of setting if it is full of ink?
    thank you

    • @cheo1949
      @cheo1949  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

You keep everything in. Yes change the paper towel and run a cleaning cycle followed by a nozzle check. I you show an improvement from the last nozzle check but still not perfect repeat the paper towel application. LOTS of Patience is the key here. It might take days! Once you solve it the way to prevent it is to print at least two to three times a week. What the printer companies will NOT tell you is that inkjet printer need to be used, ideally almost daily! That is why they incorporate cleaning cycles in the design.

Tried it and it seems to have worked--left a lot of ink spots on my paper towels, including the magenta which is the one not printing. Unfortunately, when I went to test the printer and closed it up, I found that the print head was no longer sliding smoothly along its rails/tracks. I can hear it bumping along until it stops. This causes an ERROR message about a paper jam--which does not exist--and I can't use the printer. Did I do something to affect the print head's movement? Did the paper towel do something? Can I fix it?

Mr. Rodriguez- I have a Canon TS9521c printer. It has started to make horizontal lines on my pictures. I have done nozzle checks, deep cleaning, test pages, head alignment, and the lines are still showing up in my prints. What can I do. Also, the prints are looking faded. No vibrant colors. The cartridges are full. So, I guess it's two issues- the horizontal lines and faded pictures. Should I buy the Piezo Flush? I am at a loss. I bought it in 2019. Thank you.

I’ll try your method. I’m about to give up with my Epson 3640… I bought it from someone else and the print quality is horrendous. The only thing I knew about was the nozzle cleaning system (which never fixed the problem) and my ink was gone very quickly. Fingers crossed, I’ll try it. How many times do I do the Windex soaked paper?

My nozzle checks are perfect after cleaning, However, when I go to print out a document it prints perfect for the first half page, then begins to fade gradually until, at the end of the page, nothing is printed (Black Cart only). Dozens of cleanings, some deep, same results. STRANGE! Any suggestions

Since the time I have it I had intermittent problem with magenta. It prints 30% less magenta on every image. However, the head is clean. Nozzle check fids nothing all boxes are printed. The Magenta is genuine from Epson. I used different gammas and saturation, results are the same

Hello sir Jose, I have an Epson L6190, its acting weird, there are times it will print the document with text or image in it, and after a few minutes it wont print the same document, it seems it just feeding the paper and doesnt print, i notice the head is not moving, the paper just go out. I tried updating the firmware of the printer, updated also to the latest Epson L6190, tried in a fresh install of windows 10. Its annoying for me Im trying to figure out for a week now. When I print a nozzle check, all nozzles are fine, but when you print its blank, when you print again 3 or more times, it will then print, then after the next print its blank again. I already performed power flush just to test if the head is clogged but the same problem happened. I am thinking of using other Epson driver which may do the trick im going to test it out. Maybe you can give me some tips or advice sir, please? Thank you for your great help and more power to your channel.

Could you help me? It said my magenta print head was clogged and needed to be changed so I purchased a remanufactured one and installed it. Once I did that it said the remaining three needed to be changed so I went and purchased a full kit. Now it is saying only 1 the Cyan needs to be changed. Before I buy an expensive Cyan alone (because I know they are a lot by themselves) could it be saying its a faulty print head because I haven't actually put the ink in I bought? This machine had been sitting for like 3 years and no one used it so I don't even think there is ink in there or if it is its probably bad. I did buy ink. So could the problem be I need to install the ink first? Thank you in advance!

Best advice is send your photos out for printing and be free of the trauma and expense.
This is by far the best thing to do.
2nd best advice is to use a commercial cleaning agent for printheads.. Windex is dirty ! Paper Towels have way too much paper particles contamination.
You can also use warm DI water or air with your cleaning hypodermic.
You can ruin your print head .. be careful.

Jose, I took the heads out of a HP C6180 printers and cleaned the heads with water only. Now the colors print great but the black is not printing at all. I tried to clean the heads on another another C6180 and got the exact same results. I've tried the onboard head cleaning and can't get any black at all. Do you have any ideas what could be going on here? I've actually emptied a new black cartridge with the head cleaning option in software so the black ink is going somewhere. Just not on my priner paper. BTW I cleaned the pump out and all the tubing and there are no clogs up to the printer head.

I hope this isn't a stupid question, but can I remove the ink cartridges when I'm not printing for weeks or months at a time? I print frequently during the school year, but hardly at all during summer break. Is it possible to remove and store the cartridges in plastic bags for a few months, and just shut the printer off until I'm ready to use it regularly again?

Hi Jose! I have just come across your fantastically informative videos - unfortunately because my R3000 has just stopped printing black completely out of nowhere! I print in waves really - depending on how much demand I have. I know I should be printing more regularly. Have had my R3000 7 years, it has always worked flawlessly and is in perfect condition. The other day I replaced my photo black as normal and now my printer won’t print in black at all. Test prints all fine. No gaps, just no black. I thought it was the cartridge so switched to matte black - still absolutely nothing - proving it isn’t the new cartridge. It prints in colour however - so I know through experience it acknowledges the black cartridges are in place otherwise it wouldn’t print at all (you obviously have to have all cartridges in place for it to print) I’m wondering would your technique of using windex work, as my problem isn’t gaps it’s actually no black at all. Or would this be a mechanical fault and I need to buy a new printer? Sorry for the long winded question! And thank you for the videos! Matt

I use a shorter strip of paper, tape it down so it can't curl or move then wet it, and if your printer has a spigot the cartridge plugs onto, you can plug a plastic pipe onto that and flush it with a syringe.
