To Anna’s and Joy’s point about the Queen’s support for the end of Apartheid in South Africa, Nelson Mandela referred to her as ‘my friend Elizabeth’. He didn’t feel hateful towards her at all.

Mandela didn't feel hateful towards anyone, even his jailers. Just because he calls you his friend doesn't automatically mean you were nice. Mandela would probably have forgiven Hitler lol.

@@catherineomondi7850 No. They were actually friends. In fact she trapped Margaret Thatcher into expelling South Africa from the Commonwealth after she refused to impose sanctions. What the Queen did is that during the Commonwealth summit she organised a meeting to talk about South Africa and deliberately omitted to let Thatcher know, then she invited only the countries that were hostile to Apartheid South Africa like Zambia, Sri Lanka, Canada, Newzealand, Nigeria,Ghana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Jamaica and Barbados. When Thatcher arrived she was out numbered and out voted and so had no other thing than to accept to expel SA from CW. Thatcher was upset with the Queen but the Queen said nothing she just hosted the meeting and let the members speak , remember the Queen is above politics this didn't mean she couldn't influence. Mandela heard about it and it brought hope to him and others that the long walk to freedom was about to end and indeed it did because after this, countries all over the world were campaigning in full gear for the end of this genocide. It even caused the US to impose sanctions and that was finally the stroke that broke the camel's back. Her contribution to the end of Apartheid in South Africa can never and will never be forgotten. Rest in Peace Ma'am. God Save the King 🙏🇬🇧👑

Joy. To your answer Queen Elizabeth I and Victoria ascended the throne because there were literally no male heirs. They were Queens by default infarct it made Elizabeth I so insecure she chose not to marry so she maintains her power, for had she married at that time you never know if the prince wouldn't have tried to usurp her power.
What Elizabeth II did in 2014 meant that the eldest child is the automatic next in line. In fact this is going to only happen when William ascends because even now Princess Anne comes after Andrew and Edward who are younger brothers.

At CHOGM on 28 October 2011, the prime ministers of the other Commonwealth realms agreed to support the proposed changes. This is known as the Perth Agreement. The proposed changes were to replace male preference primogeniture with absolute primogeniture for all persons in the line of succession born after 28 October 2011, end the disqualification of those who married Catholics, and limit the requirement for those in line to the throne to acquire permission of the sovereign to marry. The prohibition on Roman Catholics becoming monarch would remain. The bill put before the Parliament of the United Kingdom would act as a model for the legislation required to be passed in at least some of the other realms. Like many English people, I'd prefer not to have a royal family, but I'm sad for the reason Lu gives. And unlike her husband, who seemed to go out of his way to be unpleasant to the hoi polloi, the Queen treated everyone she met, as far as I could see, with equal dignity, politeness and grace. Though I don't particularly dislike Prince Charles - who comes from a more common mould of an English monarch, viz. an adulterer with a sense of self-importance and the brain of a tadpole - he will have to work hard to deserve the words in the National Anthem that even an anti-monarchist would admit admirably described his mother: gracious and noble.

    With the upmost respect...
The demise of our beloved Queen Elizabeth II has nothing to do with "pomp, glam & pageantry" or "popularity & drama", it's not about the British Empire nor race. This moment is about recognizing an incredible woman who dedicated her life to better the lives of others. She served us for 70years. During her reign she stood for equality and dignity. She committed her life to serve the UK and the Commonwealth in the best way she could. She moved with the times and was the longest reigning Monarch in British history. She wasn't just the Queen, she was the Matriarch of a family. Her life was driven by faith and dedicated to service. She served our country in war and was a beloved Patrion of the Girlguiding community, among many other progressing movements. She was the continuity that remained during the best and worst of times. This moment is about respect, appreciation, acknowledgement, grief, reflection, dignity and community spirit.

All well for Sunny Hostin to say she lived in London but as an American who has lived here for 40 years her attitude shocks me and speaks to how little she learned. The title of Queen Consort was
the wish of the late Queen not to reward adultery as Hostin suggests, but to reward faithful service to the Crown and make reparations towards a thwarted, delayed yet inevitable marriage. Secondly it amuses me that Ana Navarro, who I would cross an ocean of time to have a drink with, thinks The King speaks to only his own plants..he's trying to save the planet! C'mon Ladies. They need to put a gag over Sunny whenever she tries to talk about British history. The British monarchy was not *built* off the backs of black and brown people, she's confusing that with the US' history...
This monarchy goes back to 1066. There have been hiccups along the way, and no country has a squeaky clean history, but the Royal institution in Britain did not originate through slavery. In fact William The Conqueror, who was Norman, *put an end to the slavery of Anglo Saxons who were being sold off to Ireland* !
Sunny keeps peddling innacuracies. Oh, and I *am* a British 'brown' person.

Sunny was not at all saying that the origin of the British monarchy was fundamentally based on slavery and cheap labour.
She’s saying that it inevitably was and it caused great systematic damage to the nations it decided to rule over and exploit. The East India Company and British exploits in Africa alone made the crown immensely wealthy.
And I have no clue why you’re mentioning William the Conqueror when again she clearly was talking about the British Imperial age which would not start until the first Elizabethan Era. Where The rise of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade again made the British a lot more money and wealth in their Caribbean colonies and even when the British did abolish slavery they had zero issue in getting goods from the US south (even casually supporting them during the civil war), focused on compensating enslavers and not the enslaved and continually used brutal and barbaric tactics to keep order in their colonies.
I get you’re trying to score some points by calling Sunny stupid, but she is absolutely correct in saying that a LOT of British wealth comes from the torture and systematic abuse of black and brown people across the former empire. History can argue that until time ends.

Who does Sunny Hostin think she is? She has some nerve with the insinuations she made about the Crown Jewels and that the British Monarch is not modern. Such disrespect for both Queen Elizabeth II and King Charles III. Queen Elizabeth was loved and respected all over the world. For Sunny to show such disrespect to her immediately after her death, it makes me wonder why she is even allowed to be on The View spouting hatred. It wasn't just her words, it was her arrogant facial expressions that turned my stomach.
She somehow turns things that do not have anything to do with race, into a topic of racism and shows her hatred for the white race. She has no idea what she is even talking about when it comes to the Royal Crown or what power King Charles III has. The View needs to do something with Sunny Hostin's attitude before it loses viewers. She needs to keep her mouth shut about things she knows nothing about.

I really find the View the most uninteresting when they try to have a conversation about something they really, truly do not know and understand, like the institution of monarchy.
When it comes to the late Queen, she worked hard for 70 years to unite the former colonies and any other country that wanted to join, in a cooperative Commonwealth. She did not ever resist any nation leaving, she danced with African leaders at a time when the white world cringed at the intermixing of races, she never told anyone how to feel or think and she was never, ever the leader of the British Empire, which ended during her father reign and became just that voluntary Commonwealth of independent nations that it is today.
As a final bynote, just because Meghan Markle has said things in an interview, doesn't make it true. The Queen is not responsible for the feelings someone else might have, and she did more things, as did her son Charles, to welcome and include the Duchess when joining the family then most of us know, because it happens in private. Everyone should try not to take things as truths just from reading tabloids or hearing about peoples hurt feelings in interviews they might wish they didn't give in the way they did.
Everyone is entitled to have them and feel them, but feelings are not fact, and the ladies of the View should try to remember that when talking about these issues.

Sunny clearly does not know that the monarchy has no power anymore, literally no power. It is the parliament that rules Britain. It was during Queen Elizabeth's reign that the de-colonialization began to take place, and she never participated in colonializing anyone because that was not happening at her time.
As for reparations, please move on. I come from a place in the Balkans (Kosovo & Albania) which has been occupied and colonialized for centuries (before and after the Atlantic slave trade and all the colonialization done by the British), by Serbs, Bulgars, Romans, Byzantines, the Ottomans, and do you think I go around asking their descendants to apologize to me and give me my stuff back? There's nothing to give, they nor I lived under the events which these things happened, so there's no point in arguing and fighting about the past. The big issue we have in the Balkans is because we can't move on from the past, hence why we all hate each other and thanks to that nationalism and hate has grown tremendously. This 'vengeful' ideology has not worked and it will not work, it is time to end the cycle of violence.

    What another American thought.
From the day of her coronation 70 years ago-the first one ever televised-to this
very moment, as countries tributes are being posted online in her honor, Her
Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has captivated the world. Today. Michelle and I joln
so many others who are celebrating her life and mourning her passing.
Her majesty was just 25 years old when she took on the enormous task of
helming one of the world's great democracies. In the decades that followed. she
would go on to make the role of Queen her own-with a reign defined by grace,
elegance, and a tireless work ethic. Defying the odds and expectations placed on
    women of her generation.

During World War II. She became the first ever female royal to serve on active
military duty. And through periods of prosperity and stagnation-from the moon
landing, to the fall of the Berlin Wall, to the dawn of the digital age she served
as a beacon of hope and stability for people of the United Kingdom and the world.
Her majesty worked with 15 Prime Ministers and countless foreign heads of state.
She listened deeply, thought strategically.and was responsible for considerable
diplomatic achievements. And yet she wore her lofty titles with a light touch
as willing to act in a comical sketch for the London Olympics as she was to record
steadying messages for the people of the UK during the COVID-19 lockdowns.

Michelle and I were lucky enough to come to know Her Majesty. and she meant
a great deal to us. Back when we were just beginning to navigate life as
President and First Lady she welcomed us to the world stage with open arms
and extraordinary generosity. Time and again we were struck by her warmth.
the way she put people at ease. and how she brought her considerable humor
and charm to moments of great pomp and circumstance.

Like so many. Michelle and I are grateful to have witnessed Her Majesty's
dedicated leadership. and we are awed by her legacy of tireless dignified public
service. Our thoughts are with her family and the people ol the United Kingdom
    at this difficult time.
