Diana was HARDLY an innocent waif. She knew exactly what she was getting into. And her affairs with a long list of inappropriate lovers were witnessed by many who were THERE at the time.
It makes my blood boil to see people saying cruel things about Camilla's looks, as if they think being hateful to her will somehow bring their "people's princess" (a term so patronizing that it makes me cringe) back to life. No, it won't.
People who have actually MET Camilla say she's a lovely person, with a warm, friendly smile and a great sense of humour. She's in her seventies now, and if Diana hadn't got herself killed, she'd be an old lady, too.

Personally I think out of respect for Diana’s legacy, Camilla should’ve just retained her title as Duchess of Cornwall. Sure, time has passed and people move on, etc. They’ve been married now for 17 years, and Diana’s children/grandchildren will always be first in line for the throne. However, their was a pretty muddy history there, and it just doesn’t seem right.

Nope. Princess Diana was a teenager, young, romantic and niaeve when Charles proposed to her. By the way, I do believe Charles loved her at one point. Proof? When Diana died, and Charles went with Diana's sisters to retrieve her body, he was the first one in to the hospital room in Paris to see her body. He broke down, weeping and said "somehow despite everything I always thought she would come back to me." I don't think he hated her. There was still part of him that loved Diana, knew she was a good mother, a kind and giving person. Diana did love Charles a lot until he mistreated her and cheated with Camilla. I hate Camilla because she never intended to give Charles up, and loved being a royal mistress, as her own Great Grandma had been to Charles' great great Grandfather Edward the Seventh. U think Camilla actually loved her own husband Andrew Parker-Bowles more than she loved Charles, which is why she married him when Charles was in the navy. But APB cheated on Camilla a lot, and then she wanted Charles back. She's a homewrecker, who hurt a vulnerable young lady who gave up a normal life to marry the heir and have his children. Diana was such a compassionate person, especially toward people with AIDS, the homeless and those hurt by landmines. She was a genius of empathy. Long may we remember her, Queen of our 💕

I think, Charles and Diana would have been a good pair. If they would have had a good marriage mentor! A divorce is NEVER good for children and who knows, who wanted Camilla to be with Charles. Charles went to retrieve Diana as a “media ploy” to look good, over here in UK the royal family were getting a major bashing for how they were acting during death of our loved Diana. He also acted “lovingly” for his sons. He’s close to Diana’s sisters anyway, he went out with the 1 before he moved onto Diana.

She got divorced in 1995. This is Camilla's fault in my opinion. People like to forget that she actually loved Andrew Parker Bowles. She chose to marry him long before Diana was even in the picture. She only toyed with Charles because Andrew was a serial philanderer. Charles was the man she chose to comfort herself with while her husband bedded half the town. If that marriage hadn't gone sour, she would probably still be with him to this day. I honestly don't think she ever loved Charles as much as Charles loves her. Diana loved Charles, Charles loved Camilla, Camilla loved Andrew, and Andrew loved himself.
I think you mean, if he had been allowed to marry her before her first marriage to Tom Parker Bowles, all the heartache with Diana could have been spared.

At that time she was acting as a grandmother not as Queen, more concerned with her grandsons' grief than her own public persona, because the boys were staying with her when Diana's accident happened. The whole family needed time to digest what had happened, just as any other family, before facing the public.
It was also pedigree and her looks. Diana’s family, the Spencer’s have Earls and nobility going back to forever. And of course she was a beautiful virgin. Camilla didn’t have any of those things.

The Show "Loose Women" did a poll 5 years ago which saw 86% of people saying no for Camilla to be queen. Now 61% of people are saying yes for Camilla to be recognized as queen. She maybe has changed attitudes with the British public. But also have to say that it takes two people, so as much blame Camilla is getting, so should Charles.
Edit: I am 100% Princess Diana but I do feel bad for Camilla and Charles based on the circumstances of why they couldn't marry. Maybe they can at least recognize Diana when Charles becomes King or do something like that.

The fact that Diana confronted Camilla at a party and basically said, “I want my husband,” will always stick with me. Camilla couldn’t understand why Diana could want Charles when she had everything else- good looks, money, the public’s affection. But secretly Diana was miserable because of their affair.
Camilla isn’t a saint, she knew exactly was she was doing, had no qualms about being someone’s mistress while they were both married, and apparently played a part in choosing Diana to be Charles’ wife. However, it was CHARLES who decided to marry someone he knew he didn’t love and had no intention of loving or being faithful to. He’s the “villain” here (or the coward, which would be closer to what he appeared to be). He wanted to have his cake and eat it and, in the end, he got it all. He’s awful. He didn’t have the balls to stand up for what he really wanted back in the day and chose instead to make another person so desperately unhappy. He acted like a spoiled man-child.
That choice you speak of didn’t happen in a vacuum. The reality of the situation is that we’re all influenced by societal, cultural, historical, and familial factors. The royals, especially those in the line of succession, particularly the heir apparent, are not “free to choose.” There are pressures on them from an institution that dates back millennia, and which has not and will not change over night. He was also a young man when this happened. It was an arranged marriage which had devastating consequences on them both. The fault lies with the Firm and the Queen, but they too are servants of convention and tradition that far predates them. They’re changing things because they know the monarchy cannot survive if it continues to be so strict and stern. It’s a simple matter of adjusting to the times. Enough time passed where Camilla became more ubiquitous and popular than the memory of Princess Diana. They should’ve never been married. It ended up costing her her life.

He’d had numerous affairs before, he’d partied (wasn’t he known as the “party prince” back in his day?), he’d worked in the navy, he’d lived out in the world. He was a grown, experienced man, who also had the example of his great uncle who abdicated in order to marry the woman he loved. He wouldn’t have been asked to discover the cure for cancer. He could have acted differently had he been willing to lose the comfort and privileges of being crown prince by standing up to his family and their ridiculous standards for a royal bride. But you are right, he and Diana should never have married. Stringing someone along only to save your own butt while never having the intention of returning their feelings or being honest with them from the beginning is the biggest issue in my eyes. He sold her a fairytale, she was young and naive enough to buy it and we all know the ending.

@@rod1320 I think Charles has become a catalyst for change in the RF, modernising the monarchy and ensuring his sons were not bound by the conventions he was bound to as the heir to the Queen. Both boys were allowed to marry the women they chose, not forced into arranged marriages to fit in with archaic traditions. Both Charles and Diana, in different ways, were responsible for changing the monarchy to fit with modern times, therefore people should not underestimate the importance of their union.

In that sense, I suppose you’re right, their union did contribute to the modernisation of the monarchy in some way. Growing up as they did and witnessing the public debacle, it’s unlikely the princes could have been made to marry someone of the Crown’s choosing rather than their own. It only took using and attempting to destroy someone to get there. To this day, Charles’ camp engages in character assassination, depicting Diana as mentally unstable and just as -if not more- responsible for the marriage not being successful. It has become more pronounced in recent years, with Charles and Camilla being presented as star crossed lovers who couldn’t be together because of bad timing and then Camilla being viewed as a wench by the public because of Diana, ergo Camilla is the innocent victim in this. They’ve been twisting the narrative since Diana died. He was not merely a victim of circumstance. Whichever positive contribution he has made does not erase the harm he caused.

That is not true. By letters patent 1915- the great grandchildren of the monarch are not entitled to be Princes or Princesses - only the heir in the direct line (William's children). Harry's children could have had titles at birth but he and Megan DECLINED. They were offered titles through the Dumbarton earldom (which is Harry's and was his BEFORE he ever got together with Megan - and no it is not pronounced "Dumb" barton...) Harry and Megan declined those titles and then went on Oprah where they proceeded to say that it was due to racism that their son wasn't made a Prince or didn't have a title. This is a LIE. Their son would have become a prince automatically when Charles ascended the throne to become King. They also claimed that Charles only wanted to change the rule for Harry's children--which is not true. Charles has been talking about reducing the number of Princes and Princesses since the EIGHTIES. This idea has been popular with the British public - instead this was presented as singling them out.

Charles wanted to have an affair and/or date with Camilla before he ever met Diana. It was just that Camilla probably put him in the friend zone, until she saw Charles showing interest in Diana. But what I do feel is that even as naive as Diana was, that class of person in the UK knew what it was like to be married in those circles.
