Btw guys, just to clarify, I used this GPU because it’s what I had in stock and I got a great deal on it. I’d recommend going for a slightly better GPU if possible!
For someone on a tight budget, swapping one of these Dell systems that doesn't require a bunch of weird connectors from the PSU to a new case is smart. Not only can you use a full sized GPU, but you can also drop in an ATX PSU to power it, giving you the option to use 8-pin power connectors. Then you just have to watch the used marketplaces for a sweet GPU and you're set. Plus, it looks a lot better than the Dell case.
I love building the SwaptiPlex (Optiplex in a modern case). For those hunting, you can also use an old Dell XPS which comes with a more standard board and the power supply is usually 450-550W with PCIe so you don't even have to buy a new power supply.
Ive just made a cheap gaming machine out of a Dell 3050 SFF. These have a M.2 Nvme slot. So fitted a nvme drive, and also a Sata 1TB SSD. 16GB RAM, i7 6700, and a GTX 750 Ti 4GB. And its doing a superb job. Assetto Corsa 110fps.
Hey good job here for the case swap. That being said, with the extra space you got now, you can easily be creative and find a cheap but cool funko pop figure at your closest dollar store and put it on top of the PSU! :)
How did you get it to work? I did exactly what you did, but I got a different case, and the front panel cables wouldn't connect to my motherboard. Do you know what the problem is.
Hi, If you look at this diagram, you'll see that the front panel pinout for the Dell Optiplex SFF is different from the standard. You'll still be able to use the new case's connectors with the Optiplex motherboard, but they need to be connected differently than usual, which is why it’s not working. www.dell.com/community/en/conversations/optiplex-desktops/9020-usff-and-sff-external-power-button/6664ced29d31ec38a7cddd45?commentId=6664e7ff933a6c1435963f18
@ZombieDontMiss sorry I didn't understand. so what do I do to fix it ? It's the same one as your Dell optiplex. What did you do?. I also just used the psu that came with the dell optiplex 7010. I wanna get the msi mid tower case
I have an optiplex 9020, but they told me that I have to buy an adapter for the power supply to be able to change it to another case, the problem I have apparently is that I will not have the front panel or power button because it is not compatible
Actually it is capable of streaming, but for that, you’ll have to lower the game settings and the stream settings in obs studio or whatever platform you’ll use to stream to Twitch/TH-cam/etc. I’ve tried it before. Also it’s ddr3 ram for this build. I also have some other budget build videos a little higher end if you wanna check them out.
Great video! I'm planning on doing a build like this. Currently, I'm planning to get: OptiPlex, CPU cooler, GPU, HDD, NVME SSD, 16 GB ram, and case. do I need any adapters or other parts?
You'll need a CPU cooler adapter, and if your GPU needs external power, it's best to get a new power supply. Also, most cheaper Optiplex models don't support NVMe SSDs, so you'll need a SATA SSD instead of an HDD. But if you want to play it safe, you could just buy a cheaper prebuilt from Amazon, like the ones I’ve shown in some of my other videos.
1:00 that's not anything about the hard drive or lack thereof; PXE means Preboot Execution Environment, meaning network boot. It's failing that because you don't have it connected with Ethernet to a server from which to load the operating system. Literally no one does unless they go out of their way to do it, I've never tried to set this up so I don't know what's involved. Booting over the network would be slow, anyway, even with a 1Gbps link. It might be about the same speed as an HDD, but slow compared to an SSD.
This is such a random type of video but I love it. I actually just bought this PC the other day for 39 USD, and I might swap the case :) would you recommend a 1050Ti?
I actually bought a pc like this cause it was a budget pc and cheap I bought it today and I’ve been wanting a gaming pc but this is a start i am waiting on it still this video will teach me something i pretty sure thanks man.
In the past I've bought magnetic dust filters on Amazon and used for making i/o shields. Definitely better than nothing just hand cut all the ports. I've done a few times and they turned out good. Never had a complaint from customers. 👍
Oh, it didn’t say that for me! Is there any way you could get a better GPU, or is this your only option? I’d only recommend it if it’s your last resort. Honestly, I only got mine because it was part of a super cheap deal I found. What’s your budget?
In my country it is possible to build a mid range gaming PC with 150 dollars 100$ for secondhand pc with ryzen 3-5 50$ for gpu rx 570 or rx 580 (trusted brands)
Yeah sure! I can try BR next time, it was an i5 4th gen if I’m not mistaken. Already sold it for $300. Reason I’m so comfortable selling it for that price is because so many companies sell worse around this price on Amazon, eBay, etc. Case alone is $100
