thank you, ....much like you I tried almost everything and nothing seem to work until I came across your video. The way I fixed it was not taking apart much other than lowering down glove box and gently touching mechanism while changing between the modes. I cleaned grease or whatever was there sightly yellow and slightly harden paste and applied fresh grease. All works now, thanks again!

I did exactly the same but I put back little grease to stay lubricated.

I think my 2010 crv has this issue. Great explanation of which part is where and which part affects the mode. I got the old one out and having one hell of a time getting the new one in. Limited space, limited vision and cable bundle in the way just make this a real fun job. I have replaced mode motors in a 98 Civic and that was easy compared to this. I am glad I spent the extra money for the honda part cause I dont wanna do this again.

this was the best vid I watched, I do need both parts the blend door for heat on the driver side and the mode door so it will switch out of defrost mode where it gets stuck. The passenger cool/heat works fine.

In 2009 CRV I had the same problem. After watching this video, I looked at the mode actuator and felt the green connector which was actually not fully in. I pulled it out and plugged it back in. That's all it took.

    1. Thank you posting your experience w the previously listed incorrect parts - this helped in narrowing down to the real issue (difficult to return parts if not needed).
    2. It really helps in showing how the actuator working at the end of the video so we know how it is supposed to be functioning, once installed correctly.
    3. For a temporary fix (like my case, no time to order parts and install before a trip in a hot week where I needed the AC to blow out of the upper vent), all I did was drop the glovebox, pressed down on the flat black plastic piece, that’s supposed to rotate, wiggle it a bit, and it started to rotate with the button and brought air to the correct vent. I intend to leave the AC on when shutting off the car, so the vent mode stays in the desired position, until permanent fix.

It wouldn't surprise me to have spent $300 on this. Thanks so much for helping me name the part and find it. This is the only video I've found for the CRV HVAC mode actuator. NOTE, I bought what Amazon called a "heater blend door actuator compatible with civic 2006-2011 Mode Motor Assembly" It was $33 and has the white piece that rotates to move the panel doors. I thought I'd try this rather than the one that looked the same and was only the black box for $72. Installed today and works as it should. Replace part # 604-879, also marked 79140SNAA01.

props man. I took my crv to a shop and they told me they can't get to the part under the driver seat. he tells me to take it to honda. I'm glad I didn't listen to him, he tells me it's the blend door. i take it home and started to google. came across your video. I see the part but decided not to deal with it at the moment. before I close everything back up I decided to wiggle the black piece a bit. holyshit my vents started to work again. I have a feeling the piece is starting to go bad so I'll keep an eye on it. thanks again!

If this particular thing stopped working sometimes but not on the other day and if you can pull it out of course, most of the time the problem is just from the motor inside. Spray the motor with generous amount of electronic contact cleaner and your problem solved.

Sadly, I ordered that same part number from rock auto. 1712483 it would not spin when I installed it… so I went back to the site and found out 1712483 is actually an actuator for an accord not a CR-V and they won’t refund it because it’s already installed. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Part 1712747 is the correct part for a CR-V. They look identical but I have not had success with the accord part. Just wanted to fwd that info.

    • @skellipants

I was feebly fumbling it into place to get the screws threaded and finally got all 3 partially threaded. I tried the mode buttons to see if it would work and something snapped into place. Works fine now. Maybe you have one of the two "panel door arms" slotted into the white plastic rotator piece in the wrong position?
