Check for trouble codes:
The HVAC control unit has a self-diagnostic function for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system. To run the self-diagnostic function, do the following:
1. Turn the ignittion switch OFF.
2. Press and hold the recirculation control and rear window defogger buttons, and turn the ignition switch ON (II).
3. Recirculation indicator turns on for 2 seconds, then self-diagnostic function begins.
NOTE:
•The blower motor will run at any speed during the self-test regardless of the dial positioning.
•In the case of multiple problems, the recirculation indicator will blink the lowest number DTC only.
•If no DTCs are found, the indicator will not blink.
DTC (Recirculation Indicator Blinks) Detection Item
1 An open in the air mix control motor circuit
2 A short in the air mix control motor circuit
3 A problem in the air mix control linkage, door, or motor
4 An open or short in the mode control motor circuit
5 A problem in the mode control linkage, doors, or motor
6 A problem in the blower motor circuit (New Blower Motor amzn.to/3Liuxq3)
7 HVAC control unit internal error
8 An open in the evaporator temperature sensor circuit
9 A short in the evaporator temperature sensor circuit
Beyond this you need to hang the AC gauges and thermometers on the system and do more checks. A/C Gauges to check your amount of freon amzn.to/3zEGGmq

4 blinks mean that your ac compressor relay has faulted out. All you need is a NEW relay to replace the old one located in the fuse box. Easy fix. If your AC just stopped randomly working one day it's most likely that.

Spent $1100 on a new compressor and condenser that did not solve my issue. Civic was still blowing warm air. I found this video, ran the diagnostic test, with no error codes but it now blows ice cold. Wish I found this video first. The climate control center perhaps just needed a reset! I also did the compressor, condenser and expansion valve. It was blowing cool not cold. I turned to max heat ac off. Then turned ac back to max it started blowing cold. I'll do this test next.

Hi guys. I need help here. My civic AC is just blowing warm air. I just recently changed my AC Compressor on my 08 Civic and mechanic told after installing it that my HVac Control is faulty and working intermittently and needs to be replaced also. The next day, the new compressor and fans are completely not working anymore. I know this is a self diagnosis test you have in the video and I don't get any blinks at all for any codes which means nothing is wrong with it right. Do you also mean this as a reset for the hvac control or is there another way to do it? Perhaps maybe this could be just a loose connection? I would really appreciate your help as I've already spent a lot on this AC repair. Thanks in advance.

Hey friend, I have a 2006 civic dx that came from the dealer with no a/c I'm getting 8 flashes in self diagnostic mode. The air is ice cold regardless of what I try. I can't even find an exploded view to identify which flap directs the airflow away from the heater core. I'm really beginning to lose it!

Your list only went to 7 before disappearing off the screen. Now my question has changed as I've found it elsewhere. I'm getting a 8 flashes on a 2006 civic dx with no a/c and 8 flashes means condenser sensor error. It's not likely that I have this on my car. I have water pressure and almost equal head in my core lines, though I might have cavitation from my pump even though it doesnt overheat at all. The pump removal concerns me as I have heard horror stories about the 8mm allen bit on the belt adjuster which needs to be removed to get to the pump. Have you had any success in this area or am I barking up the wrong tree? Any referrals would be appreciated.

I think he’s talking about the lights in the air position buttons on the panel. You know, the buttons that you push to change where the air blows (your face, your feet, etc.)

@@tocsalot1 if ac clutch not engaging first check the fuse should be a 7.5amp then check compresor relay. If everything looks good then you have to try to put freon because clutch does not engage with out freon. And if you have freon and your gauages stay at 100psi on both sides then you need a new compressor hope it helps mine had four blinks i replaced the vent motor and then tried to put freon clutch was not engaging still so i replaced the compresor and worked.

Didn't flash codes, a/c clutch not picking up. Relay, cabin fuses and hood fuses for a/c all ok. 2009 civic what else would hold the clutch from engagement?
I just replaced my blower motor because I thought that was the problem now I did this test and blink six times which is a problem in the blower motor circuit. So what do I do next if I just replace the blower motor??
When you say "the light will blink" in reference to the code number,which light do you mean?...The only light that blinks for me is the check engine light...then turns off.

my ac was marginally cooling but blowing somewhat cold air, i tried this it gave a #3 code but now it is blowing consistantly hot, hot air does this reset the system or overrides the system in some way

I just found out. 4 blinks is control motor. aka blend door actuator. Located behind glove box green connector. 2010 civic. Controls where air flow goes to front/feet/or defrost. Banged on mine,started working. Would need another one.as will fail again.

Dumb question but are the vents suppose to be on all the time? Even when the air is off? Or can I completely close them off??
You need to turn on the recirculation button If you don't use it, the car will use the air from the outside that is a lot warmer, and your A/C will work harder and continuously to cool the hot air from the outside. Even if the ac is completely off and the button is off air will continue to come in from the outside. So you need to have it on so no air comes in at all with the ac being off.
I've replaced blower motor resistor rely ac relay still nothing. No fuses are blown. I recently put aftermarket head unit new speakers all way around and added 2 after market amps. Did away with factory amp. I'm thinking something has happened that I wasn't informed of because I had " FRIEND " help. He has now informed me the remote wire from amps got hot and almost melted. GREAT so now it's going to be running down a wiring harness issue. If anyone has those friends and has had it happen I'd greatly appreciate any ideas you may have. Oh stereo and amps work fine

I did the test and i blinked 4 times meaning I got code 4. I did the test again and did not blink any more. Is it fixed or should I procceed to fix the issue code 4 is telling me what to do.

If your AC compressor never stop spinning and blows cold at first and slowly goes down in temperature and air flow, it means you need another control head as the evaporator is freezing up to a block of ice. Junk yard time to get a used control head.
My AC compressor stays on continuously when I have my AC running, should it cycle in and off? What would cause it to stay always on when AC is turned on?
What's a control head? Do you mean this AC controller we are testing in the video? My compressor won't turn off. Every relay and fuse is fine. I ran this test and got no error code.

Yes the part inside the car with the knobs and buttons,
I unplugged my climate controler, and the AC did indeed finally turn off. Phew! The cooling fans also didn't turn on like before when I turned the key to on while cold. I also had a bad fan control relay U8 that made only the radiator fan come on at high (both fans should only turn on together). So I had at least 2 problems at the same time. This was throwing me off. Also, my controller didn't show any errors when I ran the diagnostic, nevertheless it was bad.

I got no blink but my ac is trash. What does that mean. It is Luke warm in the winter. And smells like old candle wax.
I did This and the fan went on high and went back to low. I have no blinking lights but my AC only stays cool for about the 1st mile I drive and then it stops blowing cool. The When I put the gauge on to check pressure, it pegs the Gage

I’ve had that problem too. The system is full of refrigerant, but if the car is idling, the air is blows begins to warm up until it’s not blowing cold anymore. Of course, this happens in summer and I live in south Texas where summer temps are often in the 90’s or low 100’s F.
I had the same problem, I ended up changing the ac compressor and now is working fine

Can anyone help? My ac was working fine and as time went in it went from only working while I was driving to not blowing cold at all and just blowing outdoor temperature. Went to recharge the ac and it’s full. No leaks that iv seen with the leak detection and uv light. It does blow air and the clutch does spin when as is turned on. I’m not sure what the problem is.

I understood all of the problems that you described at the start of the video but the ones written next to the numbers are a little vague to an amateur like me.
@@diegudr Like an OBD code, it will point you in the right direction but not necessarily give you the exact component needing replaced. Still a good test to narrow it down.

Im also getting 4 blinks but ac clutch does ingage .. the only thing that does not work is that the air blend does not work can that be a cause to blow hot air ?
@@Purocorridospesados I found out that 4 blinks means the actuator that is behind the glovebox isn't working. That's the one that moves the parts that determine if the air comes from the front, bottom, or windshield. That part can be replaced relatively easily.
@@sirewan do you know if that can cause the air to blow warm because i replaced everything on the car compresor clutch and the expansion valve and seem like the car does not want to take the freon doesnt want to recirculate but clutch does ingage from the compresor any thoughts ?
I did the test but no lights blinked. The system itself made a low dull sound before the air system went upto full and back down again. Any ideas what it could be?

@@gopalsingh-ri6lz I am not that techie but what I did was I open the panel where you have the blower fan and there was a white circular thing that moves when you change the setting on climate control (face, legs...) I tapped the circular disk couple of times and after it started working for me and it's been a year I didn't face any problem.

@Florencio Garcia I found out that it wasn't my compressor relay fuse.
I had a hole in my condenser from a rock hitting it while driving.
I replaced the condenser, high and low schrader valve and replaced freon pressure switch then bought a vacuum pump to vacuum out the system before refilling with freon.
Back to your question. Did you already rule out any failed or failing parts like the condenser, compresor , freon pressure sensor etc with the dye test? Have you ever refill your freon by yourself? This also could be a symptom of over filling your system with freon.

The system works and cools down, it's just that it stops and restarts working randomly. I did try refilling with freon but that didn't help much. I read that Hondas can be finicky with getting the exact freon pressure and thought perhaps that was the problem, but then I saw the code 4 I thought maybe the relay was causing this problem; apparently that's not the problem either...

I believe that I hace an outside air flap thats not closing and it doesn't come equiped with ac. The other ducts have plenty of heat and ive changed and bled the coolant many times and I seriously doubt that it's a core issue. Please help me out as this could wind up costing me big time!
By the way, it the passenger side that's effected. No hot air in any on that side.
Nobody is making detailed video's other than blocked heater core and my lines are clearly hot and cold

The 2012 Civic period was a huge mistake for Honda. It has a lot of problems and that's why it was a 1 year-only body style. Honda knew they had to stop production and make a new body style for 2013
Yes it will I just did it in my 13 si you hold set everything to what was said in video then hold the front defrost and the recirculating button at the same time then turn key to position #2 the front defrost button light should blink your code

Delete this and redo it! Audio is out of sync, Head stays in the way of seeing anything. No explanation of WHAT will be blinking. Overall a 1 out of 10 for helpfulness
