@@HelpfulVancouverVet That's wonderful, Mr. Pirate has a great caregiver. I've watched many of your videos and they've been very informative, thanks for taking the time to make them.
Confirmed, my 6-year old neutered tux looks enormous when he spreads out on my hard brick patio during lunch, but standing, he looks fine. He passes the doctor's tests OK. That's why I'm here. I just *had* to check.
TRUTH! My 6 yr old spayed black tabby, Lady Molly Hadfield-Renfield, Dutchess of Fuzzbutt, looks like a *MASSIVE* puddle of fur when she's sleeping soundly in full flat-cat mode. She is a bit overweight for the same reasons that Mr. Pirate is a bit of chub (but not a full Unit) - she's got IBS and is on prednisolone, and has put on some weight, as well as being a bit less active than she was in her kitteny days. But hell, I've been on prednisone for my asthma, and I remember the dreaded prednisone pounds, as well as how it just makes you want to sleep! She still passes the condition test at around a 7, and her tummy's nothing to worry about, so we're happy!
I'm not sure cats are really a liquid; they seem to more closely follow the ideal gas law: a gas will expand to completely fill its confines. Don't care how big the couch is, a cat will occupy the entire couch.
Pierre Deagostini But the ideal gas law dictates that it will fill its whole container through random motion. Cats are too dignified for that. They must be real gases then, not ideals!
Well, he did say that cats assume a liquid state _when compressed,_ and many gases assume liquid states when compressed as well, so in a way, you're both correct. Liquid when compressed, expands like a gas when released on the couch. 😂
Pirate does NOT look fat based on this video, perhaps clinically a bit as the vet indcates, but he seems nimble and flexible for his age. We have all seen fat cats, and this is not a fat cat.
I believe he was rescued by Dr. Uri as a kitten, and so he was bottle fed, stimulated, groomed and all things that come with unweaned kittens by him. That would certainly help with bonding and trust, which is what makes him so well behaved. I'm not sure which video mentions all of this though.
That was the best explanation about cat body fat I've encountered. The spine and rib tips are very practical checks that a cat owner can easily do. And thanks for explaining the flappy pouch under our kitties. :)
I could have said that better. Perhaps "Otherwise healthy dogs tolerate the absence of food for days with no negative health imapct" would have been better. Just wait till I do a video on dog obesity!
Jen F If your cat has been diagnosed with kidney failure, I recommend www.felinecrf.org My cat was stage 4 for 3 years.
