Do you know of any animal chiropractors in the Vancouver area, and if not is that something you'd be willing to do, or have done. I think my kitty is in need of an alignment and she isn't letting me try.
@@FablestoneSeries Chiropractors are not permitted to work on animals in BC. There may be some exceptions for horse work under veterinary supervision but that is not my area. In general though, chiropractic treatments are not a useful in my pinion. Chiropractic treatments are not based on science and studies done on chiropractic interventions show they either do harm to the patient or at best cause no improvement. PS - NEVER try a chiropractic “adjustment” on a cat!
Both of my cats gives me back massage every night before we go to sleep. They also gives me belly and leg massage when I have cramps. They are the best!!!
I also don't have a cat, but have friends who have cats so shared with them. I'm terribly allergic to cats or I would have at least 2, along with my little 7 year old adopted dog - would be a perfect family.
I owned dogs all of my adult life and after suddenly losing my 13 yr old retired girl greyhound about 5 months ago, I was missing a furry friend so I decided to adopt a 4 month old kitten thinking it would be easier than a puppy, so far it is we haven't had no toilet accidents, a kitten needs lots of play but no walks needed. I have noticed the top back leg muscles hardly exist on cats, my kitten reminds me of a little fox and my greyhound reminded me of a pony. My kitten carrying a little ball in her mouth while jumping on the lounge is the most cutest thing ever, she also sucks her paw, purrs and kneads while trying to going to sleep, soo cute.
I wish my elder cat Pumpkin,would accept this ...though,w her mild arthritis it simply irks her she darts away.... Though,interestingly we do meditative therapy" let me explain. Pumpkin comes close,she's small for her age even close to the time I take my meds ( bipolar) my cat is so on" time schedule" She puts her ears up even if asleep' Anyway meditation involves cat putting her head in my The palm of my hand sighing ever so quietly Y whereas before every little noise would freak her out! My senior cat, Nibbler (18 yrs old), has terminal cancer. I am so grateful to you and Mr Pirate for teaching me how to do something to make his remaining time much more comfortable. ❤
Don't give up on him, you can save him! I had the vet tell me my senior cat was dying and needed to most likely be put down eventually, however, she beat the cancer with supplements and medicine from the vet and ended up living another few years. Even the vet was surprised. Shop around and research some good supplements for cancer and his symptoms.
@@13lood13ath unfortunately this experience isn't universal. Sometimes all someone can do is make the rest of their pets life as enjoyable as possible. Don't say they can save their cat when you don't know anything about their situation. Express sympathy and empathy, don't make it about your experience. Okay after trying massaging the cat that I live with who is a house panther, he has played more today,taking better naps today, and for the first time in about a month is laying next to me on the couch purring loudly. Because I am massaging him again. It seems to not only be good for their health physically but also emotionally. Thank you again from a cat and his human in Alaska
This is incredibly important, not just for the benefit of relaxing the cat, but you can also save their lives. My husband was massaging our cat and found lumps on her left back flank. We took her to the vet immediately the following day and scheduled to have the tumors excised and tested and they were found to be cancerous. so the cat massage saved our cats life as we were able to get the tumors removed within days of finding them and radiation treatment done within a month and she’s now cancer free.
In the last few years of her life, my precious kitty developed arthritis and loved for me to massage her neck, shoulders, and back. She died at the end of February and would've been 18 tomorrow. 😪 She was such a delightful companion. I miss her terribly.
I started massaging cats when I was still a kid because it seemed like the natural thing to do. I guess it's not surprising that I've been a massage therapist since 2012 :3
My 1 year old boy didn't want to sit for the massage for more than 5 minutes, because he had very important playtime to get to, but he appreciated it. He was stretched out and purring.
My 20 y/o cat really appreciated this :D She has some troubles with walking sometimes especially if it's this hot outside, and I felt like she definitely walked better amd more comfy afterwards. :>

I tried this with my cat last night, and she was absolutely delighted. She turned into a purring little blob and compulsively nuzzled me a lot when she felt the most comfortable. Thank you for this. My cat and I were both very pleased.
Just followed this whole thing through with my deaf cat. She was purring like a maniac, and as soon as it finished she got up and walked off to her favplace in the window and did some energized licking 😅 I can still hear her purring.
Should do a neck/jaw massage video next. That's the one my cat loves. Years ago I bought a massage wand and jokingly showed her it. She likes it. Now I can't use the thing myself without her over, hopping up and taking it over demanding it on her neck area most of all.

What a great video! I tried it on 7 year old Pewter. First she fell over, then squished into a semi-loaf position so I continued. Then she closed her eyes, purred loudly, stretched and made biscuits. I think it's safe to say she loved it!
Right as I started playing this, one of my cats who likes rubs came over and sat on the desk in front of me to volunteer to help me follow along with the video.

I recently adopted an older cat, and this morning I gave her an impromptu back massage on a whim (carefully! I've taken classes on massage before and I know how easy it is to hurt a human around the spine so I was extra careful with a cat whose anatomy I don't know). And afterwards was the most relaxed I've ever seen her! She usually almost always sits with her back half upright and her rear legs in a crouch, but after the massage she flopped all the way on her side! I'd attributed her posture to how she's generally very skittish and afraid (she's had a rough life), but maybe back pain is a big part of it. So I immediately went looking for a video on the topic, for how to do this safely and well, and your video was very helpful, thank you!
What good timing. We just got a diagnosis that my cat has bone degeneration in her last few vertebrae. I’ve been looking for resources to help exercise the other areas of her back

Great info, but I can't do that for Brat. She had surgery to remove hemangiosarcoma about five years ago, and her vet removed the tumor and muscles. She has only skin over the bones where the incision was - but she is ALIVE and going on 18 years old!

I have a friend who absolutely adores having his tummy rubbed. He rolls on his back, puts a back leg up, and kneads the air with his front paws! Total bliss!
I love seeing Mr. Pirate living his best life, having a real vet for a masseur ❤️ I massage my cat almost every day too. She’s not a senior quite yet, but she still appreciates a nice massage in the evening. I also go down her legs and rub at the tendons attaching the muscle to the bone, especially around my girl’s hips, and this seems to be her favourite part of the massage. While doing so I also like to gently stretch her legs out and squeeze/extend her paws. She loves it and it’s a good way to keep an eye on her mobility so I’ll catch any changes quickly. It’s a little silly, but when I massage her front legs, she always tries to bake biscuits on my face. Not the most comfy thing in the world, even though her claws are short 😂
I just tried this on my crotchety 15yo cat and she loved it! Thank you to both of you from both of us. This is going to be part of our routine from now on!

you could just tell that he was loving every second of that. I have an 11-year-old cat, she has been with me since I was 6. I'm currently trying to do everything I can to increase her lifespan and ensure her senior years are just as good as when she was 2. Which is starting to include back massages. Haven't tried it yet but I'm just about to, hope she enjoys it as she loves attention and getting pet and brushed and stuff

All my Fur Babies have received massages fr me. I could tell my current set of Senior cats never received a massage until I adopted them (last Spring). They instantly melt when I begin a massage. 🙂 I did learn to lighten my touch from what I used use on my beloved canine fur babies. Cats are more sensitive. I’m going to watch your video to learn good techniques I may not be practicing.
The thing I love about these videos is that he not only tells us how to give different types of cats massages, he also explains the animal’s behavior, and backs it up with sciences. So fascinating!!
My cat has urinary system issues and i was able to notice the problem within a day. If I had been using an automatic litter box, I might not have noticed it so quickly. Their health issues are difficult to spot as cats tend to hide their pain. I think cleaning the litter box is a good way to check on them.

My cat loves back massages. His favorite person is my husband. When he gets home, my cat goes to him and wont leave him alone until he gets his back rub. He then goes into kitty heaven while he gets his massage.
Thank you! My 17 year old (who to be fair is always more energetic than her peers) really enjoyed this. I did each step as you showed in the video, then she casually walked off just as the video ended. I'm hoping her muscles feel warmed up since she chilled and sat on my lap quite awhile.
I've been training my middle aged cat to enjoy this type of touch - she loves being pet all around her face and chin, behind the ears, but often freaks about paws and her back. I've been gently moving towards those areas once she's in that very calm and relaxed state which seems to have helped her understand that it's not dangerous. Sometimes she will even let me touch her belly which I know is such a great honour. It's reassuring for me to be able to check her for lumps and bumps, and to know that when she gets a bit less spry she'll hopefully be able to enjoy this type of massage in her older years. She loves being outdoors so it's good to be able to check her paws too. I'm glad we're in the UK with a safe back garden so she can express her inner huntress without the risk of coyotes, snakes etc. She loves to sit in the sunniest high spots, queen of her domain (until it's dinner time of course). 😂
I’m writing this in tears tonight Mr. Helpful. Somehow, after we watched this video yesterday, my dearest mamacat, my CHILD, my 16 pound, hunger-averse, periodontal moneypit, left me. Her note scratched into the upholstery only said “MAshAgeS”, and she left her overturned cat box on the bed again . I hope you’re happy. For one thing she sucks at directions, always has. She’s probably in TJ as we speak, friggin awful co-pilot.
Ah yes, the butt in the air response! Our senior cat has always had that response to petting and we still laugh at him 13 years later. We call it the butt elevator. He seems to love a little light spanking too when he does that, he's so funny. Our much younger cat doesn't really do that specific move much.
I once went on a holiday and the pet-sitter called me because she couldn’t understand one of the written instructions. I was in a crowded cafe and had people listen to me telling someone on the other side of the line “yes, he likes to be spanked, and don’t be too gentle, he likes it rough. If he jumps up the bed and stares at you, he wants to be spanked!” 😬
We trained our little kitten to be comfortable with this kind of touch when we was young. A very hyper and springy little cat, but she really enjoys massages when it's chill and cuddle time.

I have done this for my 10 year old fur-baby since he was a kitten. I did it instinctively. I watched your video to see if I had been doing it correctly. I do it the same way you demonstrated, I also gently slide my fingers all over his face, around the base of his ears, his jaw, like a gum massage from the outside. His chest, shoulders, belly and legs. My cat is a jumper so he has powerful legs with lots of muscle tone. He drifts off to sleep when I finish.

My dad is a cat masseur . All cats love him more although he never feeds the cats because he's good in massaging the cats.

For me I feel maybe it has something to do with cats considering us their mommy? Mommy cats would lick kitten butts since they couldn't lick themselves yet. I'm not saying any one should get in there though... defintely not the nicest part of a cat

my cat has always been super peculiar when it comes to what type of touch he will allow, for example he likes pats around the side of his hip/top of his legs lol
he also really loves being _picked up_ BUT _doesnt_ really like being _carried_ - so he'll meow to pick him um, jump down, have me pick him um again, down again, up again and again and again

I recently adopted an older cat, and this morning I gave her an impromptu back massage on a whim (carefully! I've taken classes on massage before and I know how easy it is to hurt a human around the spine so I was extra careful with a cat whose anatomy I don't know). And afterwards was the most relaxed I've ever seen her! She usually almost always sits with her back half upright and her rear legs in a crouch, but after the massage she flopped all the way on her side!
I'd attributed her posture to how she's generally very skittish and afraid (she's had a rough life), but maybe back pain is a big part of it. So I immediately went looking for a video on the topic, for how to do this safely and well, and your video was very helpful, thank you!
What good timing. We just got a diagnosis that my cat has bone degeneration in her last few vertebrae. I’ve been looking for resources to help exercise the other areas of her back

Great info, but I can't do that for Brat. She had surgery to remove hemangiosarcoma about five years ago, and her vet removed the tumor and muscles. She has only skin over the bones where the incision was - but she is ALIVE and going on 18 years old!

I massage my cat almost every day too. She’s not a senior quite yet, but she still appreciates a nice massage in the evening. I also go down her legs and rub at the tendons attaching the muscle to the bone, especially around my girl’s hips, and this seems to be her favourite part of the massage. While doing so I also like to gently stretch her legs out and squeeze/extend her paws. She loves it and it’s a good way to keep an eye on her mobility so I’ll catch any changes quickly. It’s a little silly, but when I massage her front legs, she always tries to bake biscuits on my face. Not the most comfy thing in the world, even though her claws are short 😂

you could just tell that he was loving every second of that. I have an 11-year-old cat, she has been with me since I was 6. I'm currently trying to do everything I can to increase her lifespan and ensure her senior years are just as good as when she was 2. Which is starting to include back massages. Haven't tried it yet but I'm just about to, hope she enjoys it as she loves attention and getting pet and brushed and stuff

I could tell my current set of Senior cats never received a massage until I adopted them (last Spring). They instantly melt when I begin a massage. 🙂
I did learn to lighten my touch from what I used use on my beloved canine fur babies. Cats are more sensitive. I’m going to watch your video to learn good techniques I may not be practicing.
My cat likes a full-on shiatsu thumping but if I try do that with my dog, he looks at me like I'm a terrible person 😂

My cat has urinary system issues and i was able to notice the problem within a day. If I had been using an automatic litter box, I might not have noticed it so quickly. Their health issues are difficult to spot as cats tend to hide their pain. I think cleaning the litter box is a good way to check on them.
Agreed. Self cleaning litter boxes have their good points & bad points...not everybody will want to use them.

My cat loves back massages. His favorite person is my husband. When he gets home, my cat goes to him and wont leave him alone until he gets his back rub. He then goes into kitty heaven while he gets his massage.

I've been training my middle aged cat to enjoy this type of touch - she loves being pet all around her face and chin, behind the ears, but often freaks about paws and her back. I've been gently moving towards those areas once she's in that very calm and relaxed state which seems to have helped her understand that it's not dangerous. Sometimes she will even let me touch her belly which I know is such a great honour. It's reassuring for me to be able to check her for lumps and bumps, and to know that when she gets a bit less spry she'll hopefully be able to enjoy this type of massage in her older years. She loves being outdoors so it's good to be able to check her paws too. I'm glad we're in the UK with a safe back garden so she can express her inner huntress without the risk of coyotes, snakes etc. She loves to sit in the sunniest high spots, queen of her domain (until it's dinner time of course). 😂

I’m writing this in tears tonight Mr. Helpful. Somehow, after we watched this video yesterday, my dearest mamacat, my CHILD, my 16 pound, hunger-averse, periodontal moneypit, left me. Her note scratched into the upholstery only said “MAshAgeS”, and she left her overturned cat box on the bed again . I hope you’re happy. For one thing she sucks at directions, always has. She’s probably in TJ as we speak, friggin awful co-pilot.
Ah yes, the butt in the air response! Our senior cat has always had that response to petting and we still laugh at him 13 years later. We call it the butt elevator. He seems to love a little light spanking too when he does that, he's so funny. Our much younger cat doesn't really do that specific move much.
I once went on a holiday and the pet-sitter called me because she couldn’t understand one of the written instructions. I was in a crowded cafe and had people listen to me telling someone on the other side of the line “yes, he likes to be spanked, and don’t be too gentle, he likes it rough. If he jumps up the bed and stares at you, he wants to be spanked!”

We trained our little kitten to be comfortable with this kind of touch when we was young. A very hyper and springy little cat, but she really enjoys massages when it's chill and cuddle time.
I got the best take away: I know my two cats really well and now I know they're as happy as I hoped. 🥰

I have done this for my 10 year old fur-baby since he was a kitten. I did it instinctively. I watched your video to see if I had been doing it correctly. I do it the same way you demonstrated, I also gently slide my fingers all over his face, around the base of his ears, his jaw, like a gum massage from the outside. His chest, shoulders, belly and legs. My cat is a jumper so he has powerful legs with lots of muscle tone. He drifts off to sleep when I finish.
My cat loved it! However he is 8 months old so the massage lasted about 20 seconds before he got too excited and decided that it's playtime
