This guy is funny 😄 And if I may brag? I attract every cat. Only with my eyes and voice. I don’t reach out with my hands. I blink and talk to them with love. ❤️
Never met a cat that didn't like me. Strays will come up to me. Had this orange poofball stray cat come up for pets the other day. No food nothing just comes right up.
@@Serom_974 sure but the point is there's meant to be a bond that forms. My dogs would NEVER do anything to me, and i've never needed to beat that into them.
How to tame one of my cats: bring snacks, be prepared for her to shove her nose into your mouth for a smell inspection - do not be afraid or pull away, an inspection is mandatory.
A small toy like a stuffed mouse works just as well and doesn't fill your cat up with empty calories. Not that treats can't be a normal part of a daily routine.

So you're telling me that in order to impress a cat, I need to: 1. Spray on perfume 2. Play hard to get 3. Hold out my hand strategically 4. Demonstrate physical intimacy 5. But also respect their physical boundaries 6. Seduce them with my eyes 7. Be fun and playful 8. Pay for their dinner Why do these sound so familiar?
I have had four that have been great with this, but one of my little men doesn’t respond to the slow blink either. I keep trying, but nope, absolutely nothin’. There are plenty of other methods to try. A warm comfy bed and lots of rubs/scratches never go astray. Most importantly, keep some yummy treats handy. 🐟🍽🙏🏼🤪🤣 Good luck and enjoy your baby! ♥️
Tip: Most of this doesn't matter when the cat loves you. Blocking the exit has become a game between me and my cat, he loves it. If he gets past, he comes back and tries again, every time.
I heard blinking your eyes slowly is a sign of love. I tried that on a bunch of unsocialized cats at a nearby shelter. It work for every cat. Also, it depends on the cats personality and what they have been through.
Actually, blinking for cats is telling them I am not hunting you and a friend. This is a trait from their wild cousin, lions. It does the same, because they stare at you as possible prey.
@@kito1san closing your eyes is a sign of calmness and vulnerability to a cat since they stare at their food and blink slowly when there's no danger, since they don't have to see if there's no danger.
It's not so much a sign of love, love is a human concept, from the cat perspective it's about showing you aren't a threat because in cat language and dog language an unblinking stare means you're challenging them.
My mom has many cats and here is what I have learned 1. You can’t charm a cat 2. The cat will choose you as their Hooman 3. If a cat denies you........give up
Was feeding some street kittens who were scared of me. Did it pretty regularly, sort of. One day I came and this time they were literally starving (fewer people are feeding street cats during Covid). Funny thing is, now I'm treated as a safe human. They don't bother keeping their distance at all. So, I guess they can change their mind, too ❤ But I agree with not forcing them to like you. I was just giving them some grub.
@@hakunamatata1352 same thing here but with feral adults in the street. I just feed them and never expecting them to approach me and ever let me touch them, but after a month or two they knew I'm the food guy. They wait for me and yell when they see me (hopefully they are not insulting me for being late sometimes lol). At first they looked very suspicious of me, even hiss at me, but now they are relaxed about me being around them, a couple of them even let me pet them. If you can win the trust of a feral cat I think nothing is impossible for you in this life. Winning the trust of a non-feral is a million times easier. I wouldn't say if a cat denies you you should give up, I think every cat has its key, sometimes it might be a hard key to obtain but never impossible.
Lol. True to an extent but my favorite cat memory was when I noticed an abandoned kitten around my house that hissed and ran from me no matter how carefully I wooed him with food and treats. I kept my eye out for him and he finally got so weak I was able to scoop him up because he could no longer run away. I nursed him back to health. He kept snarling and hissing at me during that time even though he let me feed, pet and wash him up. It took a long time for him to learn to purr. He would eventually go through a phase where he hissed at me while cuddling me before he finally.learned to actually purr. 😂 We became mama and child kitty. He slept with me and stayed glued to me for years. His name was Timothy. So you CAN get a kitty to come around with patience and love. Worth it. 😻🥰
Someone wrote about old ladies and cats. Probably because we wlk slower. we don't make alot of noise, rush around the house and sit around alot. This gives them security. I can sit on my couch and in a matter of 5 mins, I have 4 cats lying near me. One just lies down and touches me with his paw. I LOVE it.
@@sarahs5340 oh yea that's why everyone knows the favorite human for cats is old women but for dogs its typically anyone who will walk it but cats love the slower paced lifestyle of old women

They chose us that must be why we dont have any issues that are needed for these tips . As I write this one is litteraly laying on me on his back with his head on my son lol
This has truth. I rescued 2. Momma and a baby. Both female. The baby picked me right away with her actions. The momma went along for the ride but after 4 years... what a mush. I get purring in stereo. One one the left, one on the right, both getting pets.
@Cameron Doerksen even at 7 weeks? They are about 8 months now. So since they were so little when we got them they don't remember being in that other place before with their mom? Were they too little to understand what was going on? I don't mean this sarcastically or in a shit talking way I am seriously really curious.
@Cameron Doerksen that's a good point . I am 35 and can't remember anything from being 7 weeks old lol, but when you r 8 months can you remember from 7 weeks? it is only about 6 month difference so I thought maybe they might .
But not *too* gentle pets, that tickles. Usually it helps to pay attention to the tail, it moves differently depending on if a cat likes the way you pet it, or is merely choosing to not bite you. XD
Emil Hallgren I mean like, don’t aggressively approach or grab them. One thing I like to do is hold my hand out in front of my cat so she knows I’m coming, and she usually likes to jump up into my hand.
@@HanaNoMachi Which is exactly what cats do to show they want to be petted. I didn't mean to imply you didn't know how to pet your cat, I just added my post to let other people know that while gentle pets are loved by cats, if you pet them too gently they will generally think it tickles, and might attack your hand. The tail is a good indicator of that.
#4 doesn’t seem to helpful for me. After he gets a good hour nap on the bed he will the continue to scratch the carpet and run around my room and meowing as if he’s demanding me to open the door to let him out just to let him back in
I grew up with a big, affectionate dog and thought that I only loved dogs. (He has since past away back in 2016. He was 13 yrs old) But recently my family decided to get a kitten. And she is so beautiful. I understand they're different from dogs in the way you approach them. Cats are extremely affectionate witg people they trust. The purring is so beautiful.
“Owners of dogs will have noticed that, if you provide them with food and water and shelter and affection, they will think you are god. Whereas owners of cats are compelled to realize that, if you provide them with food and water and shelter and affection, they draw the conclusion that they are gods.” Christopher Hitchens
I think its because cats are more self sufficient than dogs. I'm not proud of this but I had a cat from when I was about 10 to 20 years old. I left to the army and my mom took the cat which passed away around 13 years old. ok so when I was young I forgot to feed my kitten for half a day. about 3 months old. she killed a bird and ate it, pretty much saying that she don't need my petty hand outs. and over the years I will admit we would forget to feed her sometimes and yeah she would kill a bird and not miss a meal

I have the opposite problem. Cats love me too much, they actually manipulate me and thus I have adopted a lot of stray cats. I am their slave now. I work for feeding them. I think they will soon order for me one of those Amazon books on how to be a successful entrepreneur so i can get richer and treat them even better.
its so strange to me how people DONT know this stuff. i grew up with cats my whole life and its so obvious to me they like to keep things calm at all times. when people say they dont like cats bc cats dont like them they’re usually the ones who exhibit a lot of chaotic energy when interacting with all pets lol
most of it really comes down to reading body language and respecting it, yeah. Also those two petting zones are bullshit, what you instead want to go for is long strokes starting from the head, under the ears, over the whole body down to the tail and, here's the kicker, only do it that way around. ALWAYS stroke in fur direction, NEVER against it like you would a dog. Reason being, cats spend a lot of time getting their fur clean and nice like that so don't ruin it. You can tell he's an amateur by where the cat sat and how it still bit him at the end. I'd be sitting there cross legged to make the kind of confined space boxes naturally make, cats will jump in if they want affection and this goes on for multiple hours. Another thing I noticed is that cats want to hang out with you more if you come regularily but arent their owner. they know to use chances.
I grew up with dogs and cats. Both are equally lovely and affectionate, and every individual has their own personality and quirks just like humans. If you say you don’t like cats, you’ve probably never had one. 🐶🐱💕
i never had a dog well i did once when i was like 2 or something so i dont remember anything i kinda dont like dogs well i do like em but some dogs are just nasty
Man I remember my old cat named Lucy, she was more of a wild animal at first but she slowly just started to trust us cause her mother started hissing at her (obviously Lucy still wanted to keep close to her but it didn't work). We couldn't approach her within a meter or two, heck we couldn't even breathe in her way cause she'd ran away. But one day, a month or 2 after she started visiting us with her mother and a few weeks after her mother started to drift away from her... I came back home, I sat outside on the balcony, she jumped on the balcony and then she just curled up on my lap. I don't know why did she do that cause the previous day she was the same but I didn't think much of it, I was so damn excited. Ever since then she was really cuddly but only with us she didn't approach or accept anyone new, would take them a few visits to gain her trust. We always let her in the house at night cause the other cats would've attacked her and even due to my father not accepting that at first he eventually warmed up to her. Unfortunately she died very young, was a bit over 1 year old, I'll never forget her and how she accepted us. Sorry for the long ass comment just got reminded of her due to the topic.
@Nunya Business That is a great idea! @Private C I think you need to do it gradually and consistently. Like when you're about to go out the door, make eye contact and say "I'll be back". After a few seconds, come back. Repeat the process, gradually adding seconds, then minutes, and hours. And greet them when you enter, "I'm back". They'll learn that you're not abandoning them & you'll eventually come back, and they'll be the first to know when you're back (even if they just glance at you then proceed to ignoring you). I'm not sure if it will work though. I don't actually have a cat but if I do (or any other pet), I'll incorporate this into a routine 😊
Everything makes sense with cats once you realize that their brains are *biologically wired differently* from that of dogs. Dogs were descended from wolves which are pack hunters. Therefore, it is within their best interest to follow a pack leader (ie. you). Wolves are also at the top of the food chain within their ecosystem, so dogs are inherently less fearful of new faces. Dogs were also bred for thousands of years to be companions for humans. Most cats are descended from the African Wild Cat (some more recent breeds also have traces of Serval, Caracal or Asian Leopard Cat). All of these species are considered lesser cats. They are strict solitary hunters. Unlike the big cats, lesser cats are still small and vulnerable in comparison to other predators within their ecosystem, and therefore can also be prey. As such, any creature that is larger and foreign to them can be seen as a potential threat. Cats have lived alongside humans for thousands of years because it proved beneficial to have them around as rodent control, but humans have only _just_ recently started viewing cats as strict companion animals. It wasn't until the 1940's-1950's that it became commonplace to have indoor-only cats. Makes sense then why cats take longer to relinquish their trust toward new people in their lives than dogs do, but that's okay! It just makes it all the more rewarding once they finally do! Cats _are_ becoming more sociable to one another though, including feral cats! They're starting to form social circles with one another, known as clowders or colonies. They're not nearly as organized or ranked as dog packs are, but females will often look after another's kittens, and they stick together for security and companionship. Some cats even have best friends!
A dog thinks, "You love me donchya? Yeah, ya do, Yeah ya do!!! I love you, I love you, I love you!!!" A cat thinks, "You love me? We'll just see about that..., maybe I'll love you, maybe I won't, what have you got to offer...., hmm, that looks good, maybe I'll let you love me...sometime. Ohhhh, o o o Kaaaay! If you insist...! Yeah, you're ok. I guess I love you, a little bit..., ok, a lot. Okay, I love you! No, I really do!, get over yourself already, and move that crap off your lap so I can take a nap. Yeah...! Now THAT'S puurrrrfect. Yes I loooove YOU!" Just a LITTLE difference in the way they think. Hint; it's a lot like the difference in the way men and women think. You guess, which is the cat, and which is the dog. LOL! 😉
Dog affection is almost unconditional - sadly, even a mistreated dog won't withdraw its affection for its abusive owner. Cat love is highly conditional: they give us affection as a reward, and they withdraw it as punishment. They *train* us - there was a paper in "Current Biology" in 2009 about why cats make that "purr-cry" (like a purr with a miaow embedded in it): it's *specifically* manipulative. (The same's true for the 'trill' noise).

@@vspreels399 Cats are generally scared of loud noises and fast, big movements. If you walk quickly towards a cat while being loud and waving your arms around, the cat is gonna bolt. Wtf does that have to do with a baby? The video is "How to Get a Cat to Like You", so that's why I commented what I did. That is how you approach a cat you want to like you. You have to be low, at their level, slow, and quiet and they will generally be more receptive to you. They at least won't have a reason to run away.
Lioness006 i said that because what if a baby is making a lot of noise or running around? i've seen cats just claw the hell out of babies for being babies
@@vspreels399 Exactly. That's why you shouldn't make a lot of noise around a cat. If they don't run, they get defensive bc fight or flight. But the babies aren't trying to get a cat to like them, they're just being babies. This video is specifically for people who are trying to get a cat to like them. Like if their friend has a cat they're trying to be friends with or a boyfriend trying to get along with his girlfriend's cat. Or anyone trying to befriend a feral or abandoned cat. Babies don't have anything to do with anything in this video.
Lioness006 it's the point of... why have a cat if you have to change your whole life around to comfort it. With dogs they just go along with it, same thing with gerbils and other animals. I just don't see the point in buying a NOT FULLY DOMESTICATED animal at all.
Mia Smith trust me, it’s strange to hear but even stranger to believe. at least for me, mine would jump on top of the knob and then grip so that when they slid off, their body weight would turn the knob. as long as they slid off to the left, their weight would turn the knob and budge the door a bit so they can just walk in. if they fell off to the right the knob would turn but the door wouldnt open, and it’d just be a clumsy mess for anyone close enough to hear. handles would be much easier for them to turn, though.

@@bluediner967 I had to have her put down exactly 2 months ago. She got acutely ill and had to be put down. Or, it was rather acute because she finally showed symptoms of not being well. Turned out her bone marrow had completely shut down and stopped producing both white and red blood cells. She had also appearently developed an autoimmune disorder that attacked her remsining red blood cells. Her blood values were so bad that she had no immune system left, and her red blood cell count was so low that the vet said she'd be uncobcious if it had been acute (like a blood loss). There was nothing I could do to make her better, and because she was in so much discomfort and pain, I decided to let her go. So I sat with her and stroked her body as the vet gave her the final injection (after first administering her painkillers). Im still rewarded by her laying at the end of my bed at night. The only change I made was introducing a kitten aged 3 months old. Tilly was 8 months old at the time, they both love pouncing on each other & nose touching. Occasionally they sleep very close together. I can’t understand where it all went wrong! Don't stare, slow blink. - Let the cat come to you. Basically this is probably the most non threatening and friendly way to interact with a cat. It has usually worked for me.

Cats who hate new people yet fall asleep on my lap the first day I meet them... massive sense of accomplishment! Snake-charmer, eat your heart out. The slow-blink-and-look-at-something-else manoeuvre is cat-whispering gold. If you find them doing the same to you when you glance at them, congratulations: you have successfully exchanged pleasantries and attained the lofty status of "possibly tolerated". When the cat revolution comes, they might kill you last...
I'm much the same way. I'll capture and let a fly out rather than kill it. (Although I'd mostly just not care). If I meet a dog owner outside I usually present the dog with friendly smile and calm nod, I don't care who's walking them. I think animals can definitely somehow judge people fairly with few clues.

Indeed, it's less a chain of command with a superior and subordinate (as with dogs), more so a partnership; you need to give trust to earn it, and put yourself in their shoes. They're so much smaller, and can't communicate with words, which makes a person feel incredibly powerless; you may be able to relate if you've ever been bullied by someone larger, or been abroad to visit a place where you don't speak the native language.

The Slow Blink has gained me many, many new feline friends. That, and making an effort not to encroach upon a new-to-me cat's space. I let them come to me. My favorite was a Maine Coon hybrid I met one evening while delivering his humans their pizza dinner. Found one in my bed this morning... again😔 Heard her playing w/something at night but couldn't wake up completely to check on her, hoped she migh've been playing w/ sthg else😐Thanx Little Girl💗
Take it slowly. Be gentle. Speak softly. Make no sudden moves, and do nothing that's in any way threatening. If the cat wants attention, it will come to you.
Don't go in above him, that's seen as a threat. Get to his level & offer your hand under his face so he can sniff it. And play with him. My timid rescue cat suddenly came out of herself & her confidence soared when we had a daily 10min session with a feather & mouse on strings . Scratching gently under the chin & the base of their tail is sure fire ecstasy once they've gained their confidence back. Also, avoid their belly, they don't like that the way dogs do.
That's a tough nut to crack, and just for the record a cat doesn't have to be abused to be mistrustful. In fact not all cats dislike every new person they meet either. I know somebody with two cats and one of them mistrust every single person and animal she meets, even as a kitten newly brought home she hid under the bed for two days and it took weeks for the cat to trust her new owners. The other one was friendly and sweet right out of the gate and was to me when I met her as well. She even accepted my dog with nonchalance. Funny thing is those two cats are sisters that have had pretty much the same care love and attention ever since they came to their forever home at about 8 weeks of age.

We became mama and child kitty. He slept with me and stayed glued to me for years. His name was Timothy. So you CAN get a kitty to come around with patience and love.

@Cameron Doerksen I got them when they were 7 weeks not from hirth
@Cameron Doerksen even at 7 weeks? They are about 8 months now. So since they were so little when we got them they don't remember being in that other place before with their mom? @Cameron Doerksen that's a good point . I am 35 and can't remember anything from being 7 weeks old lol, but when you r 8 months can you remember from 7 weeks? it is only about 6 month difference so I thought maybe they might .

But not *too* gentle pets, that tickles. Usually it helps to pay attention to the tail, it moves differently depending on if a cat likes the way you pet it, or is merely choosing to not bite you. XD

But recently my family decided to get a kitten. And she is so beautiful. I understand they're different from dogs in the way you approach them. Cats are extremely affectionate witg people they trust. The purring is so beautiful.
“Owners of dogs will have noticed that, if you provide them with food and water and shelter and affection, they will think you are god. Whereas owners of cats are compelled to realize that, if you provide them with food and water and shelter and affection, they draw the conclusion that they are gods.”
Christopher Hitchens
I think its because cats are more self sufficient than dogs. I'm not proud of this but I had a cat from when I was about 10 to 20 years old. I left to the army and my mom took the cat which passed away around 13 years old. ok so when I was young I forgot to feed my kitten for half a day. about 3 months old. she killed a bird and ate it, pretty much saying that she don't need my petty hand outs. and over the years I will admit we would forget to feed her sometimes and yeah she would kill a bird and not miss a meal

Well i didnt grow up with cats so yea
Cats just spook very easily and people who talk too loudly or too energetic will often scare the cat.
most of it really comes down to reading body language and respecting it, yeah.

Totally legit thing to do, do it also and it also works.
I adore everything about cats. I love how they manage to look so dorky and serious at the same time.
They're like small soft and adorable demons, I especially like that
Everything makes sense with cats once you realize that their brains are *biologically wired differently* from that of dogs.

It is so rewarding to win over a reluctant cat something about cat love, I love dogs too but dog love is different not better or worse just different.
A dog thinks, "You love me donchya? Yeah, ya do, Yeah ya do!!! I love you, I love you, I love you!!!"
A cat thinks, "You love me? We'll just see about that..., maybe I'll love you, maybe I won't, what have you got to offer...., hmm, that looks good, maybe I'll let you love me...sometime. Ohhhh, o o o Kaaaay! If you insist...! Yeah, you're ok. I guess I love you, a little bit..., ok, a lot. Okay, I love you! No, I really do!, get over yourself already, and move that crap off your lap so I can take a nap. Yeah...! Now THAT'S puurrrrfect. Yes I loooove YOU!"

Dog affection is almost unconditional - sadly, even a mistreated dog won't withdraw its affection for its abusive owner.
Cat love is highly conditional: they give us affection as a reward, and they withdraw it as punishment.

Also helps to just be quiet. Way too many people shout and move too fast. Cats like peace.

Ragnhild MD aw what happened
Cats smile with their eyes. Slow blinks are part of smiling.
Sometimes it helps to very obviously close your eyes or look away while holding your hand out as far as possible. It gives the animal a chance to sniff you without having to worry that you might pounce on them.

I find a lot with Online Streamers that have Cats, the Cat tends to often jumpup into their owners lap or in their presence during a Stream, wanting attention. buzz magister oh ok
Take it slowly. Be gentle. Speak softly. Make no sudden moves, and do nothing that's in any way threatening. If the cat wants attention, it will come to you.
Wizard Suth thank you :)
