  • I bought this in November 2008 and personally restored it completly to original. All pieces besides the sheet metal were sandblasted, primed, and painted with a Binks Model 7, Devilbiss JGA suction gun, and a Devilbiss PLUS gravity gun. NO SPRAY CANS! The restoration was finished the morning of August 13, 2009 just in time for the LaGrange County Steam and Gas show which started on August 13, 2009. Parts replaced during restoration were radiator hoses, hydrolic lines, decals, paint, all new tires, lights, spark plugs and wires, distributer cap, steering wheel and center cap, rearend seals/ gaskets, all belts, oil pan gasket, throttle cable, muffler, lug nuts/bolts, all filters, fiberglass frontend rebuilt(bottom was busted out and missing) 3-point bushings, steering gear rebuilt, clutch disk, pressure plate, and hub, clutch brake buttons, battery cables, radiator cap, all fluids, seat, carburator rebuilt, air intake hose, fuel sediment bowl, coil, some wiring, random bolts/nuts, light switch, and many more that i can't even remember. The restoration was personally done while I was 13 and 14 years old.

    Great Video ! If I was there at that show looking at your Cub I'd be green with envy like Eleverna Bradshaw looking at Granny and Elly May's new mink coats . Beautiful restoration and a great choice in music .

      Ive got a 154 as well. It's tore all apart though. It was a resto project that got put on hold several years ago now 😞 I did that 185 back in like 2008 I think.

    No most of them were factory without them, but the hydrolic line are plummed in so all you have to do is put a diverter valve on it and hook up the line. i have a lo-boy 154 with no three point

  • @gibsonman5

    nice tractor. im working on a IH cub cadet 147, its a 1971. my other tractor is a 1971 john deere 112.i cant justify having a tractor as large as a cub loboy for my 2 acre lawn but the same generation cub cadets are cool too. i already rebuilt the engine now i have a qa42 blower mounted on it and a NOS 48" deck pan on the way

  • @gibsonman5
    @gibsonman5  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @TheSaturnV Thank You. Yes I was only 14 when I restored this tractor. I am now 15 years old. during june and july i restored a 1939 allis chalmers b from top to bottom in only 5 weeks.

    i recently bought a standard farmall cub, while i like the lo-boy i like even more feeling like im running a farm tractor; which is what the older cubs are small farm tractors. i have a danco C3 60" belly mower, a 54 blade, and a sickle bar. also included weights for front and back and tire chains. tractor has TC hydraulics as well. runs great but doesnt like to start in colder weather. im going to try switching her over to 10W30 instead of the SAE 30. otherwise she's a great little tractor

  • @gibsonman5
    @gibsonman5  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    Its single stage acrylic enamel(mae). but im getting ready to a farmall super c i bought a few months ago and im going to use either urethane(mtk) or base/clear(mbc) i think. probably urethane.

    Great Job! I have a Loboy 154 i want to restore, where did you get the paint from? I cant seem to find cub cadet paint, or did you have it mixed for you?

  • @gibsonman5
    @gibsonman5  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've never put any atachment on it but i think that full size attachment will work on them yes. If you would like i could measure the distance between the two arms.

  • @gibsonman5
    @gibsonman5  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    @andrew donohue yeah, i run 10w-30 in some of mine but we got a bulk tank of 15w-40 for diesels and i run that in some of the old tractors that i use like my M and super C

  • @gibsonman5
    @gibsonman5  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    @bulldogmack407Sales thank ya sir, you can get the paint at any case dealer. its Federal Yellow and Power White. or you can go to a PPG paint shop and they can mix it for you, its called cub cadet yellow and cub cadet white if you go that route

    Great job it makes me jeakous becuase Have projects in mind I want to do because i don't have the money to buy or restore anything, also what did you do with the blade did you keep it and repaint it or what.

  • @gibsonman5
    @gibsonman5  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm well aware of this. But thanks anyways. you can use the fine for things like blades, scoops, ect.

    *VERY* nice resto. I am doing the same model tractor myself, right now. Trying *desperately* to find a planet gear carrier for mine. Nowhere to be found. The creeper gear unit is hard to come by. BTW... A reverser is available (used) that will reverse the PTO drive and pair it up to 540 applications. Be aware that it remains 18HP rated. You can use regular 3pt attachments but have to go slow. Recommend no larger than 48" gannon, etc. Any parts available???

  • @johnsont963
    @johnsont963 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    is that tractor painted with a single stage or a two stage paint? All our jd's were painted with enamel.

  • @gibsonman5
    @gibsonman5  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes these do take normal size implements.

  • @BeboAltizer
    @BeboAltizer 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    please do, i am thinking of getting my old man one of these, but i dont want his implements to not fit. thanks.

  • @gibsonman5
    @gibsonman5  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @redgreen1990
    I still have the front blade for it and i will probably sand blast it and paint it like i did the rest of the tractor, but this is a show tractor so i may just use the blade on my lo-boy 154. i have two of them. 154 and 185

  • @BeboAltizer
    @BeboAltizer 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    will those take full size 3 point attachments?

  • @stubbytractor2405
    @stubbytractor2405 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do I have to pull the rear or motor to get the shaft out. The only thing it is is its missing a pin on the rear of the clutch. I'll still have to put a new clutch and shaft in it though

    • @gibsonman5
      @gibsonman5  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, you do not have to pull either. if I remember correctly, there is a bolt in the front of the shaft you take out and then it slides forward and the clutch comes out. however, it's been since 2008 that I worked on this tractor so it could be slightly different than that.

    • @stubbytractor2405
      @stubbytractor2405 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +gibsonman5 I'll see if I can slide the coupler back more. I only need about 1/8 of an inch

  • @gibsonman5
    @gibsonman5  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @cw2gtc thank you. if you go to your local IH dealer most of the parts are still available. but i will warn you, you're going to pay out the ass for them. i had a couple several hundred dollar trips to international for parts. but they are genuine.

  • @westtexasdave2140
    @westtexasdave2140 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    How much would it cost to have that done?

  • @gibsonman5
    @gibsonman5  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @3303073522 no sir, it only had around 2500 hours on it when i got it, only has a few more hours then that on it now though, and it ran perfect so all i did to the engine was replace some gaskets, give it a tune up, rebuild the carb on it, and service it of course. the 185 had 18 horse and the 154 were 15. actually the 185 would do pretty good and run some implements pretty decent but you gotta remember the pto's on them spin backwards

  • @stubbytractor2405
    @stubbytractor2405 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Quick question I can't get my 185 to move. Do you have any idea why? I need a new pilot bearing and throw out bearing for sure but I have no idea what's the problem. I'd also like to find a 3 point and blade

    • @gibsonman5
      @gibsonman5  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      could be a few things. first it could be that the clutch disc itself is worn out so much that it's not engaging. or it could be that the release bearing or pressure plate are bound or froze up so it isn't engaging. now the next and most expensive is that the clutch hub it's self is broken. very common and the biggest draw back to these tractors. it is a cast hub with a pinch bolt to hold it on to the input shaft. cast is brittle and should not be pinch or it will break. terrible design flaw. you can either buy a new hub from IH for around $650 and still have the same problem and probably break the new one as well. what I do and recommend is taking the hub to a machine shop and having a mild steel center made and pressed and braised into the original cast hub. then you have the required cast for the friction material to press against with the flexibility of the mild steel to tighten it to the input shaft without breaking the ears off.

    • @gibsonman5
      @gibsonman5  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      as for a 3 point, I've seen them on ebay before for around 600 bucks I believe. or you could build your own.

    • @stubbytractor2405
      @stubbytractor2405 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +gibsonman5 thanks! I'll still have to take it apart. It isn't terrible for $100.

    • @gibsonman5
      @gibsonman5  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +STUBBY TRACTOR you only paid $100 for the tractor? lol

    • @stubbytractor2405
      @stubbytractor2405 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +gibsonman5 yep. Golf coarse was gonna scrap it lol. I had to take a golf cart too lol

  • @gibsonman5
    @gibsonman5  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    Alright. Not all of them have three-points on them, but if you do get one go with the 185 the 154 dosen't hardly have enough power for like a bush hog or something.
