So, according to Matt's logic, since I was a believer and eventually grew out of my faith, I would get to go to heaven. Because once you have eternal life, you have it eternally.
But I don't want to be in the same heaven as Matt and the god he believes in, that sounds like hell to me! 😜
Apparently free will and eternal life can be assigned or revoked on a whim.
Once you have eternal life, you can't lose it, or it was never eternal. But it's not a free pass to sin, because _reasons._
It's difficult for me, because I don't want to suggest Matt's lying ass should get a pass, because he's too stupid to understand when he's contradicting himself, but he _is_ dumber than a stump, and I can't in good conscience deny it.

If it's the deity you worship, yes. Absolutely. You can twist and bend all you like, but any entity who does not permit people release, but actively creates a torture chamber where it can inflict maximal pain on them at all times, wants to send people to Hell. I suppose you could argue that said entity doesn't WANT to torture people, but is compelled in some way, but does the Bible say that? If you were somehow forced to brutally beat someone with a pipe for hours, and you felt anything about yourself but disgust and self loathing, what would that say about you? Instead of playing word games, isn't it easier to just say the character worshipped by fundamentalists just likes to torture people?

Assuming Jesus was real and the Bible is an accurate account of his life (and that second part is a big "if"), Jesus committed blasphemy against the Jewish religion by claiming to be their god. Perhaps he and his father had a bit of an awkward talk afterwards, since the Pharisees were simply doing what they had been told to do by their deity. I love how Matt tries to subtley compare that to people reporting him to social media sites for advocating murder.

But you don't actually believe that, now do you Matt? If someone claims to believe, or even genuinely considers themselves a believer, but they don't vote the way you think they should, would you hesitate to say that they aren't "truly saved"? We both know you wouldn't.

Not terribly relevant, but.... source? The best I could find is when a witch summoned the ghost of Samuel to say that tomorrow Saul would be with him. I bring this up because Jews, and the pre Jewish writers of that particularly text, don't have strong beliefs about the afterlife, and the writers at the time would have believed in a place called Sheol. Furthermore, most Christians today believe that that wasn't Samuel, but a demon pretending to be him (if you read the text the way fundies want you to read Genesis, it was Samuel, but that would contradict Christian beliefs on souls and the afterlife, so, uh.... you're misinterpreting?)

Just to add a bit of into to what you said Jared, the reason why the Roman’s were fine with crucifying him was cause they had just put down a Jewish rebellion a decade or two prior and that rebellion was led by a Jew claiming to be the messiah. The city I was born in has one simple claim to fame. Back in 754 AD the good people here were so fed up with a preacher, saint Boniface, who was notorious in his refusal to respect local customs, that they dragged him outside the city and brutally murdered him. To this day there's a statue commemorating that glorious event. It depicts Boniface trying to shield himself with a bible. It warms my heart to know just how much good that act of faith did him.
I hereby extend a warm welcome to Matt Powell to visit our lovely little city, that we may perform some historical reenactment.

I think this might literally be the worst message Matt has ever delivered. He is telling Christians that they can be the worst person in the world and they are still saved, that being a good person or doing good things doesn’t matter in the slightest. I think everyone needs to save this video anytime Matt ever wants to say atheists have no moral grounding and can do whatever they want, anytime he uses the argument, “well if I were an atheist I would just be raping, and pillaging, and robbing anyone I wanted,” he hast to be challenged on this message because he is saying he can do that as a Christian Right now. He doesn’t even have to be an atheist.

A little nitpick if I may. The book from Harry Potter that wants to eat you is the Monster Book of Monsters. Care of Magical Creatures is the name of the class the book is used in. I guess it can be argued to be sort of correct to call it "the Care of Magical Creatures book" as in the book that's used in Care of Magical Creatures, but it's not the name of the book.

Perhaps not. This traditional translation follows the KJV, which used the plural in a singular form (standard since 1395, now archaic). According to a PhD linguistics friend, since then it's been SO well known that it's become an established church formula. While "wages...is" still preserves a level of Greek complexity, "the salary of sin is death" is a more accurate contemporary reading.
That is how every preacher, evangelist, minister, etc...I've ever heard had phrased it. Honestly, I've never even thought of it before. Now, it will bug me every time I hear it.

People write book in the hopes of getting other people to follow them. They write in their book that there is this amazing ever lasting afterlife. They then write the only way to get to that afterlife is to believe in their main character. They then write if you don't believe in their main character you get tortured for ever. Therefore the whole thing is definitely real. Sounds legit.
Imagine if back in the day, these Bible stories were just commonly understood to be fiction, entertainment like Marvel or Lord of the Rings - and nobody thought to actually point that out explicitly, because everybody just knew... Until people started taking them seriously.

Powell isn't making a similar video for atheists because an atheist would tear apart his meagre arguments to shreds, ignoring Powell's script entirely. The script worked on his poor victim because the victim's church already installed the buttons. Even then, I'd be surprised if the Pentecostal ever showed up again at Powell's church, and not surprised if this turns out when the Pentecostal turned atheist.

Matt Powell seems to be able to justify his hate-filled words and behavior because he has recited a "creed" or something, and that no matter how horrible a person he is, his recitation of those words will absolve him of all the bad deeds he's done in his life.
That gives him license to lie, deceive, and mislead, at least by his own words in this video.
His reinterpretation of the Jewish scriptures to all be about Jesus is insulting and disingenuous (I'm Jewish). His treating a Pentecostal Christian as not a true Christian is insulting to all other Christians. Matt Powell, and those who behave like him, are an insult to humanity in general.

So, the dude said he was a member of another church. Pentecostal are Christian and accept Jesus. Their requirements for salvation aren't really much different than Baptist. Yet Powell still makes the guy out to be in the wrong denomination in the start of the video. But, what can you expect from him? If you don't believe exactly as he does, then you are wrong and you are going to Hell.

I've known for some time that Matt has never had a real conversation with an atheist, but now I know he's never had one with a pentecostal, either. Other flavors of christianity will accuse pentecostals of not being protestant and being "saved by works," and maybe by the twisted rules of their game they have a point, but no pentecostal would ever describe themselves that way. They don't consider their "holiness standards" to be works, but rather a code of conduct and presentation.
Oh, and the bible certainly doesn't say that either Saul or Samson are in heaven. Mostly because there was no concept of heaven in their day, but it doesn't say they went to Sheol, either. The Hebrews 11:32 they quickly flashed a reference to on the screen (which they didn't dare actually quote) says in the next verse that Samson, among others, "gained what was promised." It doesn't say what they were promised, and the chapter doesn't mention anyone going to heaven. Other reasons people give for Samson going to heaven is by a prayer HE gives in Judges 16:28 asking god to restore his strength: no request to go to heaven or Sheol, and no response other than his ability to take down the two pillars, and all in a completely legendary story that no one could possibly have known about this prayer even if the general story was true.
As for Saul... Saul consulted a medium to contact Samuel's spirit, something that CHRISTIANS WOULD NEVER ACCEPT AS POSSIBLE, and this "Samuel" told Saul that Saul and his sons would "be with him" the next day, in Judges 16. Which at face value just means that "Samuel" predicted Saul's death, and perhaps pushed him into doing it. At most, he would have gone to Sheol, not heaven. But it's wishful thinking and anachronistic christian ret-con to assume that either one went to any specific place when they died. That's par for the course, as christians have been twisting the living shit out of Jewish writings ever since there were christians, but it's still annoying to watch.

What would you do if one day a mister X contacted you (you being a law-abiding citizen, with decent grades at school, no history of drug abuse, living in a normally safe neighborhood with a normal safe decent income job) and told you that a mafia boss is going after you because you once humiliated him and was rude to him in an online game? So far Mr. X was able to divert all the attempts of the mafia to locate you, but he will tell you that he will continue to do so, only if you'll take him to dinner every Friday.
