  • Matt Powell constantly misrepresents atheists. And this is no exception... He claims atheists think they are descended from rocks. He even thinks chimpanzees don't have beards (well, they kinda do).
    I'm also probably wrong about the rock thing, but I gotta stick up for my peeps, yo!
    I point out some of the silly things he says, with even more silliness... because I need to, in the words of Matt "dr peel" Powell... "Grow up".

The difference was that we moved to savannah and became better suited for that environment, while chimps ancestors were in the forests and became beter suited for them. The original article was slightly more neaunced than that, they basically pointed out that our early ancestors had thick wirey beards which served 3 purposes.
      1. Attracting a mate since it was proof you were a virile male
      2. Keeping the face warm as we changed climates
      3. Offering some minimal protection to the face/neck against both blunt forces and claws meaning we were less likely to suffer injuries from predators/similar in a fairly vital to survival part of the body.
      Of course creationists assume that somehow the third is the most important because it's what they were looking at when they concluded that yes a thick beard of coarse hair likely did offer some slight protection and thus may have contributed to some aspects.
      It's ridiculous though because the study was basically "we think this may have been a slight factor because it sounds useful" and somehow creations hear "we are dumb and think this factor we repeatedly refer to as a contributor must be the sole cause".

    Nothing funnier than a guy who says he believes the entire Universe was created in 6 days, that the first human was made from clay and breathed into life like a golem, and the first woman was made from the golem's rib, calling the entirety of scientific investigations and findings about biological evolution a fairy tale.
    If Matt, or any other person, tried to talk to me on the street and tell me what "they" say, my first response would be: citation, please? Let's face it. People can say anything. I could not care less about what some anonymous someone claims. Where's the data? Not to mention my superskepticism about anything Matt says. His credibility level is at rock bottom with me.

    • @kellydalstok8900
      @kellydalstok8900 ปีที่แล้ว

      The rib story is very likely derived from a “Just So” story that explains why human males don’t have a baculum (penis bone) while most mammals do.

    • @Kevin_Williamson
      @Kevin_Williamson ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kellydalstok8900 Yes. That is one translation. I saw that Ziony Zevit believes that. Very Freudian. But that doesn't make it necessarily "very likely". The word in question (צלע; tsela) can also be translated as "side" and fits well with other verses using the same term. In other words, Eve was made from Adam's side. Not literally. It's symbolic to describe humanity since Adam and Eve are representative of it. In this view, humans complement one another. Men and women work best at each other's side. It means the human race is formed in two parts, and both are necessary for the fullness of life, not just for reproduction.
      These stories were originally written as symbolic, with deeper meanings beyond the superficial. Just as some people want to say the serpent in the Garden of Eden is some sort of phallic symbol (what is it with penises?). Which adds little to the story. But put it in the context of Near Eastern myths and we have the serpent representing both chaos and surrounding religions to the ancient Israelites. Thus we have the battle between God (order) and chaos. With God prevailing over chaos. And the Israelite God being stronger than the surrounding faiths, with the implicit warning of consequences for following them.
      Not saying that is THE answer, or more or less likely. Just another view.

    I love how he Is constantly repeating "2 millions years of raining" like if IT has anything to do with abiogenesis. That phrase refer to Carnial Pluvial Episode. It was time where worldwide rainfall was absurdly high. It happened 234 to 232 millions years ago, in mid triassic. Early (technicly not let) mammals were around.

      If he lived in the UK 2 million years of rain wouldn't sound strange.

    Human males probably retained facial hair as an indicator of their gender and sexual maturity as the hair grows in response to a hormone derived from testosterone. Women have hair follicles on their faces but these are not receptive to that hormone.

    Being a "Rock Loving" atheist of sorts, I had my heart surgically replaced with a block of granite, just because it was the rockin' thing to do and granite doesn't break as easily as hearts do. 🤣🤣😂😂

    Well, at the most fundamental level, we do come from rocks.

    Can you imagine if Matty found out we have minerals in our current composition?
    Dude, we are apes and we do contain minerals.

    We should apply the same standard Matt applies to himself: I can't take him seriously because he believes the Flintstones literally happened. Everything in the Flintstones, including the alien, literally happened. And of course he will deny this because he doesn't understand that this is his belief.

    You might also say that we descend from the sun, since we couldn't exist without the heavier materials produced by fusion in stellar cores. But that kind of makes us sound like badass demigods, and any species with Matt Powell as a member is the farthest thing from. He probably thinks beards come from face-punching because he himself has been punched in the face so many times.
