    Thank you so much for sharing your experience. It has been a while since I have been considering to leave my high paid 9-5 job (many people would love to have)...exhausted, surviving from weekend to weekend, not having time for myself, postponing my private life becouse my job takes everything...I know I am the only person who can end up this slavery, but there are lots of fears...Videos like this one definitely help. Thanks and blessings!

      It takes a lot of courage to take of the "golden handcuffs".
      Ideally you have a side project, which is generating a bit of income before you take the jump!
      Best of luck on your journey 😁

    Hey, thank you so much for sharing your story! I always wondered why I always felt so stuck and dissatisfied about living from weekend to weekend while others seemed to enjoy this lifestyle. Stories like yours are much needed and these help people like me to not feel alone. This video hopefully will propel me in the near future to take the leap just as you did!!
    Thanks a ton once again, you are indeed very brave and very inspiring.

      I'm really glad to hear that my story resonated with you! It's not uncommon to feel trapped in a cycle of living for the weekends, especially in a society that often prioritizes work over personal fulfillment.
      Thank you for your kind words, and I wish you all the best on your journey to find what brings you joy.

    Have a great journey in your new life and for all others watching this video please remember that every individual's life is different and their limits and enjoyments are also different. But always remember one thing if you love and enjoy what you do you will not exhaust. That may be a job or business. But consider your limits and set yourself a life you love. Thats what I am trying to do with my life too

    Wow, thanks for sharing! ❤
    I’m at a crossroad now, as an unemployed senior product designer (and former front end developer). Last year I went from being laid off to a startup going bankrupt. Highs and lows like crazy. Now I feel I question my whole identity and what to do. I love creating and have jumped back into React (from stopping 2018). I’m trying to find my bearings and get “back into the job market” but it’s so tough, even as a senior.
    Now I’m thinking of picking up 1-2 of all the ideas I have and simply try go for it! Why keep telling myself I have to play it like “they” force us to?

      It sounds like you’ve been through a lot!
      Heard a lot of designers struggle at the moment to land a new job.
      Turning your ideas into projects could really reignite your passion and showcase your talents.
      Keep believing in yourself and go for it!
      PS: I thought about creating a course for designers to learn to code. But will probably take a while before I drop it, unless I get a small group of dedicated people :D

      @@gobienan Thanks, I will! I know many people struggle these days and it’s hard to see where everything is going. I guess if we keep at it and create “stuff” we’ll at least learn from our creations, checking boxes and feel we’re accomplishing things.

    I didn't listen to myself many years ago when I was thinking the same way. I stayed in my professional career and now at around 28 years. I truly regret all the time I lost and I felt the same way that I never had energy for my private life. I think everybody has to take a good account of their own needs to determine if they really want to commit themselves to a career

    Thanks for the awesome video Gobie! When you quit your job, can I know how long was your runway? How many months could your savings last you before you went broke and had to find some sort of job to pay off your monthly expenses?
    Am thinking of quitting my healthcare job to build SaaS / mobile apps. Have a fair bit of money saved up, and my savings could easily last me at least 2 years (I'm not married, no kids and no mortgage to pay). Have been learning programming on the side for about 8 months now, 2-3 hours every night after work and 5-6 hours on weekends.
    But still unsure if I should take the plunge because I kept thinking of the opportunity cost - if I quit, i will be losing X amount of money which I could have earned had I not quit. How did you get over this feeling?

    • @gobienan
      @gobienan  16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hey there! Thanks for your kind words and for sharing your thoughts. Deciding to leave a steady job is indeed a big step, and it's normal to feel apprehensive about the opportunity costs involved. Before I left my job, I ensured that my savings could cover at least 80% of my monthly expenses for a considerable period. This gave me some peace of mind to focus on what I really wanted to pursue.
      Currently, I might be earning less than I did before, but the satisfaction and freedom I gain from doing what I love outweigh the financial difference. It's truly liberating to follow your passion, especially when you can align it with your personal and financial boundaries.
      If you have a solid financial buffer and a clear plan, taking the plunge could be worth the trade-offs. Keep honing your programming skills and perhaps start with small projects to test the waters before fully committing. And most importantly, do what feels right for you!
      Good luck!

    Hey brother. I hope you're doing well today. Do you think its worth it to get a CS degree in this modern era anymore? Im turning 17 very soon and still in HS so I still got some time before potentially going to College. I wanna become an entrepreneur, obviously it'll take some real dedication and it might take 5 years before I see some real progress but nonetheless, It's still better than being stuck in the Rat Race. Do you think it's a good idea to get some internships in college and then a degree, and then go work at a company (if I can even get hired because the job market is absolute horrendous right now) to gain some work experience and some money to upscale my business if I already have one by that point or I'm looking to start one by then?

    • @gobienan
      @gobienan  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey! It's awesome to hear you're thinking ahead about your future, especially with an entrepreneurial spirit in mind.
      In short, a CS degree can be valuable, but it's not the only path to success, especially in the tech and startup worlds. It's more about what you can do and show for yourself. If you're aiming for research or highly technical roles, a degree is pretty crucial. It gives you a solid foundation and understanding of the field.
      Internships and work experience are golden, no doubt. They not only give you real-world skills but also help you build a network and understand the business side of tech. This can be super valuable when you're ready to start your own thing. Plus, you'll get a taste of what it's like out there, outside of textbooks and lectures.
      The job market can be tough, but having a mix of a strong portfolio, internships, and the right attitude often speaks louder than just a degree. And yeah, starting at a company can definitely give you the funds and experience to fuel your entrepreneurial journey later on.
      So, dive into projects, grab internships, and soak up as much learning and experience as you can. Whether or not you decide on a degree, these steps will definitely push you forward.
      Good luck!

      I feel you. It can be challenging to put everything together.
      What really helped me to get started is...well, to just start. With something. Start with a pain point or an interesting problem you face. And try to create a solution for it. What you will encounter is that the first version will look like **** 🙈And you have to iterate over and over. Invest time and effort, to get something great. Quitting will come often to your mind, but that pushing through makes the difference.
      I wanted to create a video on that topic as well, since this channel to help people get into tech, and motivate people to get started 😁
