You ever get any creaking sound from them. I got them on my 2004 4runner and they sound like an old box matters. I looked into it and I think my top hat is rubbing on the coil but overall I don't know what actually makes the noise. Other than that they are fine. I have only had them on for a little less than a year now
I've been actively looking for a 4th gen V8 limited for weeks now. I found your TH-cam channel a couple weeks ago to check common problems with buying a used runner and later realized we live in the same city! lol I swore I even seen you driving in town as well Happy to say I found a stock silver one with a clean frame for it's age! Can't wait to lift it a bit and throw on some new wheels Keep up the great content coming!
All those Canadian taxes and still have to drive on shit roads. I get that the weather is extreme but holy shit. It’s like, Would you kindly fix the road I was already taxed to fix, so l'm not causing damage to the car I am taxed anually to drive, which I purchased with the income you already taxed, which sits in the driveway of my home that is highly taxed. Sorry for my rant. Good video bud.
Eh? I live in Alberta and the roads here are fine. I moved here from Kansas/Missouri and some of the roads there were so neglected, I find the unpaved forest roads here much smoother. I can't say I've driven much in Ontario except for a two week stretch in December 2021 and I thought the roads were fine. Granted, I was driving a rental and didn't really care much, but the potholes weren't really exceptional. Which part of the country do you live in?
I made the mistake of not waxing the body, rusted bad after one winter. One of the preload nuts I was only able to back off enough to get the spring off before it jammed itself up on the threads. You definitely need to have active rust protection on these. I would rather have the aluminum body over the steel.
If anyone wants to know I’m running the same size wheel and tire set up as him but I decided to do Old Man Emu front and rear and with there medium stiff front and rear I got the same results. However now I’ve added a big steel front bumper and a tire carrier and it handles the weight and still has some rake, but I do wish I got the heavy stiffness front and rear Old Man Emu instead of the medium stiffness ones. I believe the ones I’m using are called “nitro charger” but basically they have light, medium, and heavy.
I’m running OME aswell with hybrid front bumper with winch and 33’s it’s not bad definitely worth the price for beginner budget. I have front rake too but it gets completely level once I load up my rear end with the fridge and camp stuff.
I don’t care about changing my ride height. It gave me like 1-2 inches which leveled out my truck. Which it’s only an f150 so I don’t put over 1000 pounds in the back for tow over 5k so I’m happy with the shocks. Yes the shocks are very stiff but they are stiff in a good way. Feels like a new truck until you hit a big as bump or get air
Hey Gearhead, as a fellow southern Ontarian, I'm curious to know where that hill you were climbing at 2:19 is? I struggle to find any (mountains) around my area,
about that rebuilding. any idea who does that, and at what cost? i hear that they are, but i've never heard of anyone, ever having their shocks rebuilt. mtb yes, dirt bike, yes. trucks, no.
I just scored a TRD Bilstein set off a TX Baja Tacoma for $40. I know it’s not valved for a 4Runner, but I’m willing to send it anyways. Gonna put it on my 05 Limited after some new bushings and see what happens.
I have these in my Ranger but I have them with a lifting kit, I guess I can remove the kit and adjust the height, right? I mean i want the height like with the lift kit
Would stock Tacoma suspension be a reasonable upgrade for a 4th Gen 4Runner if they can't afford a Fox 2.0 setup yet? Also, would stock Tacoma suspesion level out a 4th Gen 4Runner?
I think it might depend on the model of Tacoma but it might lift the front a little (maybe not enough to level). I'm not sure if it would be worth it to take everything apart just for that, I'd probably either leave it while I save up or put a spacer on the OEM setup while I wait
3rd gen trd Tacoma bilsteins are a common “cheaper” upgrade for the 4runner. Gives you 1.75-2.25” of lift in the front. The rear shocks need 3/4 hourglass bushings to work on the 4runner and aren’t as thick as the 4runner version of the bilsteins but no one has complained of issues
@@joshuastowe4618I ran the 3rd gen TRD off-road setup on my 4th gen. The fronts rode almost like bilstein 5100s. But, the rear shocks are valves way differently and it was very floaty and boatlike. I wouldn’t recommend doing the rears. Just get some 5100s instead
I have the new snap ring version. As long as your factory springs are in good condition, I’d go that route have loved mine. Since the shock roughly the same, and you can choose 0, 1, or 2 inch. Also less than half the price, could pair them with dobinsons springs and you’re good to go and would be cheaper.
I installed these on my 03 4Runner after I saw your setup. They have worked really well. I made the mistake of using FJ springs in the rear (I had them) and it sags a bit back there and the towing is embarassing. I'll add these OMEs and it should be good. I am curious about 285s (still running stock tire size currently). Do you get rubbing at all?
I bought the fox 2.0 for my new tacoma, but the vendor failed to mention that they couldn't be adjusted on the truck. Left a bad opinion of the fox brand. It's been 2 years, and I am now looking for new coilovers and avoiding fox.
I bought them on sale and they weren’t even worth the price. And they shipped mine way over 2inches i had to take them off adjust them down about half a inch and put them back on. Theyre good but not at that price point Either get 5100s or pay the much higher price point for the 2.5s
@@taytumkrisartistry7141 think i just did half inch. This was 6yrs ago i dont remember totally. All i know they werent impressive and i bitched having to take them off to adjust them when it was advertised as a 2inch level not 2.5inches

Wow, nice thorough review man. I'll definitely get these after my Bilstein 5100's wear out. Canada looks stunning too!
Thanks for watching! I wish it was as nice where I live but those shots were in BC (the other side of the country lol)
The "spray and pray" treatment. We did that on the prehistoric telecom equipment.
I was just looking at grabbing these for my access cab Tacoma. I feel that this review confirms my decision
I put a link in the pinned comment for anyone that wants to check em out!

I just installed dobinsons earlier this year did 3in in the front and 2 in the back to level it off ride is great so far
I might try a Dobinsons setup on the Tacoma if I decide to lift it
I deleted my 4th gen runners x-reas suspension last week- I must say it’s a must and awesome upgrade.

Quick question. Did you have to to the body Mount chop with the old man emu?
Note these are serviceable if you send back to fox. Very affordable is what I was told to have em rebuilt.
highly recommend jba upper control arms if you wanna keep a ball joint but if you wanna upgrade to a 1” uniball there’s plenty of options out there.
Yeah if I upgrade, the JBA is at the top of my list
