I do like the 2 person explanations. Sometimes whenever one person is explaining something, they overlook things they consider common knowledge. In this case, one guy was acting as though he didn't know anything about the shocks, and asking questions as though as though he was a customer. I dig it.
Really? I get the impression he doesn’t really know what he’s talking about. He obviously knows the difference between the shock quality, and the nuance of preload, and damping, and how that effects ride performance. But an expert? I’m not buying it
Guessing I'm thanking Junior, for not making the background music any louder than it was (good level) It was there, subtle, served its purpose, and not over powering the commentary
Bilstein All life..cheap and durable, only bilstein with 2.8" heights and 35" tires i went off roading in snow running in the mountains at 60km/hr in rough trail... IN A BLINK OF AN EYE 👍💪
The shock shaft in the Bilstein 5100 is actually bigger than the other 3 it was compared to. The outside body is smaller both the shaft thicker and different valve.
Kings all the way baby, for my '16 Silverado I run King 3.0x16 triple bypass in the rear and 2.5 Coilovers w/ 3.0 triple bypass upfront. Beastly offroad :)
I should only get king if I’m going off roading. If I want a Cadillac plush city cloud feel. I’m thinking the vertex adjustable should be perfect and plush right ? I’m thinking king might be to stiff bc I can take those off-road and hit jumps and stuff right ?

It’s cool seeing guys like this who knows there stuff inside and out. They understand how the part works and made. Pretty cool seeing ppl like this talk about cars or trucks.
Adjustable valving is great. Both my vehicles have it, and I have no regrets in the suspensions I put in. It sucks to think that you could potentially spend big money on a great system, only to have it set not exactly how you'd like it.
😅 if people complain about you making a video while having a mint....okay, make the next one while eating _an apple._ see how they like _that_ 😋 or maybe even doritos....
I saw one of a Jewish guy eating Ga felta fish and was astounded I commented you did what to that fish you are eating ? The things people do in the name of religions !
The key to coilovers are not like those. It is the dual spring coilovers with different coil springs one softer than the other. The soft spring for small bumps and graduation to the stiffer spring for larger ones. The ability to set the valves on bypass reservoirs and coil overs like Kings for the weight of your vehicle and the position sensitive valving and rebound (speed of return) is f ing amazing with speed over rough terrain not spilling your drink in control vs crashing, rolling and getting stuck. Thanks again Bret for my Bronco shock work. After thanking you at the Mint 400 I saw close pics of BJ and said nice pic when did you take this ? She mentioned the kids with him and said I was on a mission to the King trailer. I said do you know who this is ? No she said I said BJ Baldwin and he may have come with or sent a message he runs them too LOL Bret smiled with thanks and introduced me to The King of Kings.
Teraflex Falcons.....?🙋🏼♂️ have them and absolutely love off road / on road performance. Night and day difference from cheap aftermarket shocks I had before. Also beefier.
Ok I want a re-do! Can you go back to the drawing board and be specific on which shock is used best for what application and also explain what shock you recommend for different figments and not to mention pricing!? That’s all
Stiffer doesn't mean better. Unless you're jumping it like the Dukes of Hazzard. You're really the only thing your shocks need to do is keep your tires in contact with the road and absorb impacts to protect the suspension and body. Bilstein come standard on the Mercedes Porsche. I put the Bilstien 4600"s on a Ford F-150 SuperCrew and it rides better then day one coming out to the showroom floor. And more importantly on the highway effortless it just stays where it belongs and rolls right on down the road it's a lot easier to drive that's comfortable too
You ever met someone that has so much knowledge, then you ask them how they did something and they have zero clue how to explain it they’re just gifted. That’s this guy he knows what he wants to say but he just doesn’t know how to say it all. Do a barbershop style Q&A with this guy he’s going to drop a ton of jewels and I want to hear them all.
I was hoping more for a video that explains what each shock does as far as if I am have a Baja truck, “this shock” would be good because it can keep the dampening consistent on a run, or if I was a rock crawler, “this type of shock” would be good because.... or if I was a daily driver and a weekend light off roader, “ this type of shock would be good because”.... this video seemed more of a technical explanation which was a little beyond me which is not a hard core off roader so I still don’t know which shock to get for my type of off roading as far as mono tube, coil over, bypass, remote coil over etc.....
This review lacks information. Can you give information vs probly, maybe, I guess explanations. What are the temperature differences between shocks. Temp reduces dampening effectiveness in shocks. That’s the reason to upgrade your shocks. I would have to say your tire reviews have more meat. I have watched tons of TH-cam videos on truck accessories and this was kinda of weak. You guys give great information but just left me wondering why I watched this.
6:05 info about emulsion shocks is incorrect. An emulsion shock has the fluid and the gas in the same cavity i.e. thats the emulsion. in IFP shocks the floating piston separates the two. IFP prevents aeration of the fluid and improves damping/ reduces shock fade.
I love this channel, and what you guys have done for the whole trucking community, but, sorry to say, this guy did not seem like any kind of authority on shocks. I would not make any buying decision based on his info. However, I do have an idea... since you guys sell several brands, have their reps come out to explain why theirs is better, and pin them up against each other!
Saw a big Custom Offsets sticker on the back of a giant, lifted, rubberband tire truck at Camp Ripley this past weekend. The epitome of masculinity compensation.
What’s missing in these reviews is the impact to your vehicle towing capacity. Especially if you go with a coil over vs a standard shock replacement. As well if your vehicle is a truck with airbags, or spring options. I get it jeeps, light trucks vs HD truck applications.
The adjustment knob shown, is that for compression or or rebound damping? Can I get both? Preload, yes it will make the shock stiffer but also sets suspension sag. Sag is needed for negative travel (ie; pot holes) where the tire drops down. Valving has everything to do with the ride. How quickly the oil move through the holes determines how quickly the shock compresses and/or rebounds (Based on adjustments and preset valves).
Have to say I put on a Bilstein B8 5160 reservoir shock and after about a year or two looked like hell. It got heavy surface rust on the cylinder housing almost over night but my fox shocks going on 3 years look like new
aluminum is lighter and better at dissipating heat usually breaks when impacted...steel has a tendency to bend or dent depending on its hardening(&$).ride quality is in valving and can be augmented usually when ordered or by user so in the bush, on the rocks or in the mud, if something jams or contacts your shocks it could make the difference of limping out with a sag and still providing dampening , while carrying extra weight or shedding that extra weight and risking possibly just hammering the absolute hell out of one corner of your vehicle
All I am going to say is watching this was extremely painful on your behalf. 😕 Just play to your strengths, witch are truck trends👍 You do great with that stuff.

Haha ok Brad I have a question. If I’m doing a 3” level up front and a 2” in the rear on a 2018 Chevy Silverado putting 33 “ tires on. What shocks should I upgrade to in the moderate price range if I want a less choppy ride? Keep it simple don’t over think it! Lol
PLEASE I NEED HELP. I GOT A 2000 SILVERADO SHORT BED. AND SINCE I PUT 20IN WHEELS I CAN FELL EVERY BUMP. WHAT SHOCKS DO YOU RECOMEND TO RIDE LIKE A CADILLAC WITH 2O'S

Just a question. I have a leveling kit on my truck, but want to upgrade the shocks. But I also want to retain the body roll and soft feeling like it was stock ('96 F150). What should I look for to have that? I am totally new to shocks, so I apologize for my lack of knowledge
Ram O we just didn’t have any laying around! We did install some on a 15 GMC if your interested in that video, we covered upgrading your already lifted truck!
Custom Offsets I remember it. Those were coilovers. I haven’t seen anything about their shocks though. I purchased the 2.25 ss n/r but I’ve yet to see a review on them.
I have a 2011 Silverado z71 crew cab that i recently installed the bilstein 5100 leveling shocks on. Put the snap spring on the highest setting. The truck looks great....but i can't stand the ride it's so stiff every bump is jarring. Can you you tell me which shock i should go with to get a smooth ride and keep the same look. I don't do much offroading more of a daily live on dirt roads that's abou it. I replaced upper and lower ball joints tie rod ends and sway bar links. So all i could think it would be is the shocks. Never remember it riding that rough. Should i put pucks on and some different shocks or go with a rancho quik lift or rc leveling shocks?
Typically most people will not run it on the highest setting, mid range is the average. But shoot our suspension team an email and they can get you pricing and info on shock setups to get your truck riding better! info@customoffsets.com
What would you say is the best 6-7” lift kit for the 2020 tundra? Ride quality wise. Besides BDS, is there anything close to that that’s not as expensive?
haha the famous mint haha i like brad he just talks really quiet most of the time in the beginning of this video he talks nice and loud and clear and then gets quiet again haha
So quick question, what would y'all recommend. I'm looking for a set of front shocks and I do some off-roading but mostly pavement driving. What's good out there and a smooth ride? Also have a 3 inch lift...suggestions?
I have a taco 19 and it rides like shit , set up is 5100 front an back ome 885 coilovers and a 1 inch block in the rear. To daily drive this setup is harsh. I trail the truck maybe 3-5 times a year? What a softer struts an shock to get a softer ride. It’s way to stiff an firm
☝️🧐 I recomend 1. putting coil-overs over the coils, 2. then pre-load to a height that's positive, 3. then add another coil, 4. Boost your shock gas with helium and oxygen at 47 psi. 5. After you experience the marvelous difference,,,come back and thank me later.😎
Personally I wouldn't buy a shock from a lift co branded shock....they make them as cheap as possible for profit....I would purchase shocks from a shock company.....I had fabtech shocks and they were total junk....buy a bilstein or eibach for lower end and fox, king, etc for higher end It just makes sense.... If I am spending $1000 for set of coilovers I will pick KING setup over RC vertex every day of the week...
Hi, I chose a 2.0 coilover with an external adjustable reservoir from Profender on my SIERRA 2015 6.2L engine. Also upgraded upper arm, added rear upgraded solistic shuckles BUT kept OEM springs. Shocks gas is at 150psi since am using for daily use and sand offroading. Car on humps or dampening either feels to stiff when or just bangs when i reduce or increase the "clicker" of the reservoir i cant get the right feel of rebound and of higher speed on sand i feel am loosing control and body roll...do u suggest i check the gas level or springs?
King is known to have better ride quality and damping but they are also more prone to leaking and are generally higher maintenance. Fox is a better all around shock if you are installing on your daily because they give you good performance and last longer. It really depends on your needs because they are both excellent brands. You can’t go wrong with either. If you want the best of both with reliability and performance, Icon is another good brand to check out too. If cost is your #1 factor then go Fox.
Ya the difference is just price for the cool look. LMAO Not when I put them on my long travel Bronco. OMG was I amazed at what it does ! Passing Jeeple traffic spotting each other off curb size bumps with a big grin toasting a hello not spilling my drink at 60+ mph over three foot whoops playing this loud with permagrin...th-cam.com/video/D4lSk48-_0o/w-d-xo.html

I went from Fox 2.0s to custom valved King 2.5s and it was a huge difference. It’s softer off road, and it kills off road now.
I was looking at the fox 2.0. I read that it has a 30k life span tho :( I don’t know if I want to rebuild my shocks every year

But at the same time the newer truck are getting to BEEFIER McPherson systems. So, i guess it’s a new truck vs old truck comparison
I heard it’s not recommended to run coil overs where it snows a lot and when it’s cold??
You can definitely run coilovers in winter/cold weather!
Why would you even put a RC coilover next to King Coilovers. No comparison. Kings all day everyday!!!
It hurt for them to play with the RC shocks and not even pick up the 5100 or fox
Because for probably 90% of people with their grocery getter lifted trucks the vertex is more then sufficient
@@cheeznhard 90% of people wasting money because unless your trying to jump the firebreaks or dunes or hit a broken road 35mph+ coil overs are wasted

I have the roughy country N3 the ride really rough and I can feel every crack on road. Did u have the same problem?
@@olivares32688 Yes it was the roughest ride ever in my truck.... night and day with the bilstein shocks
I need coil overs for the front of my 2012 ram 2500 with a 12.5 Inch lift

☝️🧐 I recomend
1. putting coil-overs over the coils, 2. then pre-load to a height that's positive,
3. then add another coil,
4. Boost your shock gas with helium and oxygen at 47 psi.
5. After you experience the marvelous difference,,,come back and thank me later.😎
Personally I wouldn't buy a shock from a lift co branded shock....they make them as cheap as possible for profit....I would purchase shocks from a shock company.....I had fabtech shocks and they were total junk....buy a bilstein or eibach for lower end and fox, king, etc for higher end
It just makes sense....
If I am spending $1000 for set of coilovers I will pick KING setup over RC vertex every day of the week...
Who would you recommend in the Houston area for a lift kit install
We'd recommend asking local truck/Facebook groups where they take their trucks!

I want coilover shocks I just never seem to find more info in how exactly to install them on my f450
Hi,
I chose a 2.0 coilover with an external adjustable reservoir from Profender on my SIERRA 2015 6.2L engine.
Fox or King?
King is known to have better ride quality and damping but they are also more prone to leaking and are generally higher maintenance. Fox is a better all around shock if you are installing on your daily because they give you good performance and last longer. It really depends on your needs because they are both excellent brands. You can’t go wrong with either. If you want the best of both with reliability and performance, Icon is another good brand to check out too. If cost is your #1 factor then go Fox.
Comparing king to rough country lolololololol
Ya the difference is just price for the cool look. LMAO Not when I put them on my long travel Bronco. OMG was I amazed at what it does ! Passing Jeeple traffic spotting each other off curb size bumps with a big grin toasting a hello not spilling my drink at 60+ mph over three foot whoops playing this loud with permagrin...th-cam.com/video/D4lSk48-_0o/w-d-xo.html
So brianbirc, does that mean you went with the rough country, or king coilovers??
